Xbox Game Pass is consistently one of the best deals in gaming, and one that seems only to get better as time marches on. Now that we're almost halfway through October, Microsoft has shared all of the games coming to and leaving the service this month.

Some games will be coming to both console and PC, while others will only release on one or the other. One will be coming to Android.

Games Coming to Game Pass in October

Five games will release on October 15, one on October 21, and two on October 22. Per the Xbox Wire, here's what you can expect.

October 15
  • Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition (PC)
  • Heave Ho (PC) ID@Xbox
  • Katana Zero (Android, Console & PC) ID@Xbox
  • Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition (Console & PC)
  • The Swords of Ditto: Mormo’s Curse (PC)
October 21
  • ScourgeBringer (Console) ID@Xbox
October 22
  • Cricket 19 (Console)
  • Supraland (Console) ID@Xbox

Games Leaving Game Pass in October

Five games will leave the subscription service on October 15. Six games will leave on October 30. Here's what's leaving.

October 15
  • Felix the Reaper (Console & PC)
  • Metro 2033 Redux (Console & PC)
  • Minit (Console & PC)
  • Saints Row IV Re-Elected (PC)
  • State of Mind (PC)
October 30
  • After Party (Console)
  • LEGO Star Wars III (Console)
  • Rise & Shine (Console)
  • Tacoma (Console & PC)
  • The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game (Console & PC)
  • The Red Strings Club (PC)

On top of the additions above, Bethesda and id Software's Doom Eternal released for the console version of Game Pass on October 1. It will be coming to PC sometime later, though neither Microsoft nor Bethesda have said when as of this writing.

With Age of Empires 3 invading the service, the entire remastered Age of Empires franchise is now on Game Pass (can we expect Age of Mythology any time soon?). Tales of Vesperia DE joins Dragon Quest XI S, Disgaea 4 Complete+, and Final Fantasy IX, among others, to round out a growing catalog of JRPG selections. And Katana Zero and Scourebringer add to a hefty collection of indies on the service.

Game Pass is available in several packages. The console version of Game Pass costs $9.99 a month, while the PC version costs $4.99 a month. Game Pass Ultimate, which bundles the console version of the service with the PC version, as well as xCloud, costs a measly $14.99.

Battling With A Demonic Figure – Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell
    \n
  2. \n
\n

The main character has been kidnapped by a demonic figure, and Gat and Kinzie have to save him or her -- only to find out that the demonic figure is... Satan himself?!

\n

Well, the game is called Gat Out of Hell, so what did you expect? In this game, you must complete challenges and missions in a hellish version of Steelport to meet Satan.

\n

Also, you need to save your boss from marrying Satan's daughter. As always, Saints Row brings humor and chaos to open world gaming.

Prof. Genki Murder Time Fun Time – Saints Row Series
    \n
  2. \n
\n

Japanese game shows sure are something else, aren't they? However, there's something about that craziness that makes them so much fun to watch.

\n

Saints Row thought they could do something like that with the last two games by having the main character participate in Professor Genki's Murder Time Fun Time show.

\n

The main character grabs a gun and annihilates Professor Genki mascots, earning cash as they go along. This game show's concept is simple, crazy, and fun to watch.

\n

If only they didn't include fire, electricified wires, and murderous mascots -- otherwise I'd sign up for the show in a heartbeat!

You have been beamed up by aliens to their spaceship, and you awaken to find yourself in an alternate universe where Zin has total control to change and manipulate things as he sees fit.

\n

The main characters are now in a world where people are now glitchy, there are hotspots and towers everywhere, demonic and electronic monsters, and a whole lot of other sorts of craziness.

\n

Not to worry, though, as the main character's super smart friend, Kinzie, is there to help. After they find a door that will lead the main character into the real world, he wakes up from a pod and escape while in the nude.

\n

Now, why does that look familiar? Oh yeah, its the same thing that happened in The Matrix.

\n

You might be wondering, "What ever happened to taking a red or blue pill?" Well, that happens right after the main character saves Matt.

A toxic gas has been released, causing people to turn into zombies, and you've been called upon by the mayor to solve the problem.

\n

The main character is pretty reluctant at first, but who could've guessed that the mayor of Steelport is none other than Burt Reynolds?!

\n

Paul Crewe -- er, Burt Reynolds --needs the main character to take down the zombies and, being a huge Burt Reynolds fan, the main character is more than happy to oblige.

\n

What's makes it even better is that Reynolds is dressed like his character, Dilbert L. Dilbeck, from Striptease.

\n

Okay, for those of you who thought that this was the ultimate surprise in the game, please raise your hands.

\n

Yeah, same here.

\n

After Keith David (yes -- the actor himself) aligns himself with Zin and the rest of the aliens in Saints Row IV, the main character is out for revenge.

\n

However, once the main character manages to convince Keith of the error of his ways, causing him to turn his back on the aliens, Zin uses his powers to sends both of them to parts unknown.

\n

When the main character finally meets up with Keith, he is found fighting with... "Rowdy" Roddy Piper?! Yeah, weird right? An actual re-enactment of the fighting scene from the film, They LiveThey even destroy a satellite dish like at the end of the movie.

\n

I don't know how Piper got a role in this, but this was awesome.

Destiny: Sparrow Racing
\n

Alright so I'm cheating a little here since this is more of a community-driven event than something that Bungie had officially implemented in the game.

\n

I mean really, who hasn't thought about Star Wars pod racing when riding these things?

\n

The foundation is all there. The sparrows have varying models, some with their own unique features. For example, the XV0 Timebreaker's able to perform quick, lateral movements along with the possibility of achieving greater than normal speeds at a risk of blowing up.

\n

Right now all we can do is zoom around a planet from a starting point to an end that we set for ourselves. If you haven't gotten a bunch of your mates together and done this yet, you're missing out on something that's a lot of fun in this game. Plus its a break from the constant grinding and shooting.

\n

I really do feel Bungie may have had ideas for implementing sparrow racing in one way or the other. Think about it - there is next to no point in giving attributes to the sparrows if not. Heck, Xur even carries items that you can buy to upgrade the speed on your sparrow!

\n

Out of everything on this list, this may be something that could come true in a very near future.

Assassin's Creed IV: Naval Battles
\n
Hands down one of the best parts, if not the best part, of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag were the naval battles.
\n

Again, this is an area where there is a lot of depth you wouldn't expect from something that isn't what Assassin's Creed had ever been about. I mean really, ask anyone what a game from that franchise is about and they'll all answer: "killing people".

\n

The ships move like you'd imagine a ship would, and the amount of detail put into them is just beautiful. You could fit it with different types of weapons, take on legendary ships in massive battles, I could go on and on.

\n

This I feel, is a gem in hiding. We've never had a proper game that simulates naval battle this well before, and it took the developers of Assassin's Creed of all things to give us a taste of it.

\n

C'mon Ubisoft, you've got something great here. Just do a little bit of work on ironing out the weak areas (for example, it's a bit too easy) and we've got something amazing.

Saints Row IV: 2D Side Scroller!
\n

This is yet another sequence, but a great one at that!

\n

After the protagonist of the game learns that his best friend may still be alive, you are thrown into a 2D side-scroller where you help your friend save his former lover by defeating hordes of enemies.

\n

That is the most basic explanation to give for this, but there really is nothing else to it. It functions exactly like a 2D side scroller beat-em-up, so there should be no question whether it's fun or not! One of the best parts of this is that your character (the protagonist) carries all the little bits of customization you've done in the main game into the mini-game!

\n

Please make this an arcade game!

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake's Nightmare
\n

This one may not be quite as well-known now, since the game in question was released so long ago.

\n

After a certain point in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Snake (presently Big Boss) gets captured by the enemy and subjected to a rather graphic torture sequence before being thrown into a holding cell.

\n

Players who chose that point to save the game and end their session for the day (or night) had a surprise waiting for them the next time they reloaded it. I remember my experience vividly. I actually got rather spooked by this (I was a kid back then). I booted up my save and suddenly, I'm not playing Metal Gear Solid anymore.

\n

Instead I'm playing a hack n' slash flick where I was massacring a bunch of hideous-looking monsters using two swords.

\n

It was all dark and grimy, and pretty bloody as well. I could execute a few combos and an AOE spin. I was confined to the place I was in with a seemingly endless horde of enemies pouring in. Oh, and after a certain point I could enter a 'beserk mode'.

\n

I feel like this game showed Hideo Kojima had a certain flair about him for games of this genre. Who knows, perhaps this is where we saw the birth of the idea behind Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

\n

I guess that makes this sequence of sorts an odd addition to this list. But hey, I won't complain at all if we get a hack 'n slash horror game from Kojima.

Gwent
\n

You probably were expecting this to be on the list if you'd played Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by now. (If you haven't yet, what's wrong with you?)

\n

Gwent is the the Witcher's own card game. Completely optional of course, but why anyone would avoid doing this fun little side activity to take a break from killing stuff is beyond me. Well...actually I'd understand, the main game's that good.

\n

I won't be going into too much detail about the rules, since it's got a surprising amount of depth for being a minigame. I'd even venture that this particular virtual card game is harder to pick up and play than Hearthstone

\n

Don't let that turn you off, though. Get past learning the rules and play around with this game for a bit and you'll see just how fun it can be. It requires patience, a good amount of deck building and doing a bit of research into tactics as well but...which card game doesn't?

\n

I'm even on the verge of starting a second play through of Witcher 3 and devote it to making Geralt the Gwent master of the known kingdoms. (It's actually got it's own quest line and rewards for playing through it.)

\n

Here's hoping the folks at CD Projekt RED decide to bring Gwent into the spotlight sometime in the future. I can picture it now. Witcher 4: Grand Gwent Tournament. Pretty sure the developers will come up with a much better name, though.

There's a joke along the lines of Inception on the title that I just don't want to mention.

\n

Yeah. That one.

\n

But anyways, from time to time we find games that are developed by people who love games so much that they put games within your game so you can game while you game.

\n

Devs probably don't think so much of them - they're just giving us a lot more stuff to do in-game and changing the pace up a little bit to keep us from getting bored slaying monsters or sneaking around a huge mountain base.

\n

But sometimes, I just wish I could have that game within the game (alright, this is the last time I use the line) as a game of its own! So, here is my list of minigames that had me wishing they were so much more.

\n

There will be some spoilers if you've never played any of these games before, since some activities tie into the story. So...you have been warned!

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

\n

Gat Out of Hell is a standalone spin-off to Saints Row IV. Similar to inFamous: Festival of Blood, it works both as a singular game and as a DLC expansion. While many gamers played Saints Row IV, not many have tried Gat Out of Hell. So let's fix that. It has two player co-op, so we once again get to highlight online capability, on top of a sizable open world. There's also a musical number like out of Disney, sung by the devil. I don't know what else needs saying after that.

\n

Well, that's my list, but are there any games you'd like to see with Games with Gold? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Shadow Warrior

\n

Shadow Warrior took everyone by surprise. It was a really fun, smart first-person shooter full of "wang" jokes, yet also telling a compelling story. It also features one of the most detailed gore systems to date. Yet hardly anyone's bought it on consoles, and it's sitting usually around fifteen to twenty dollars. So, let's give shooter fans something to do with their fancy new consoles.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

\n

Remember how Badland was a great game that would utilize multiplayer? Well, so would Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The four player co-op shooter/puzzler/platformer hybrid is a perfect way to get players playing with friends, using their local controllers for something other than paper weights, and actually playing online. It also released only a few months ago, so it'd be a relatively new title they could put on offer.

Lords of the Fallen

\n

With the Xbox One lacking Bloodborne, the closest competition, short of Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, is Lords of the Fallen, which Microsoft should totally bank on. Offering a hardcore third-person action-RPG could bring in the crowd normally more interested in Sony platforms. It also would generate a lot of interest for the upcoming sequel, and make gamers feel a bit more inclined to get it on Xbox One.

Badland

\n

What? Why is there a mobile port here? Because Badland is arguably one of the best games to come out on mobile in recent memory, and really should be on Games with Gold. It has local and online multiplayer. It has a simple yet deep and addictive style of gameplay. It is one of the most beautiful games in recent memory. I struggle to think of any reason not to offer it. Once again, a much better hold-over option than Pool Nation.

Let's face it, this gag has run its course, and it's time to be taken out to pasture. Anyone who was going to buy it already has, so instead let's make it a novelty game for Games with Gold on both Xbox One and Xbox 360. The Evil Within

\n

The Evil Within was not the record-breaking, utterly mind-blowing hit that everyone expected. It was, however, a decently received third-person survival stealth/shooter hybrid. So, rather than just let it languish, now that all its downloadable content is released, Microsoft could re-release it as a Games with Gold game. They could even put the Season Pass and individual DLC episodes on sale, for those who find the game to their liking.

Borderlands

\n

Another game that feels like a no-brainer for the Xbox 360 is Borderlands. GameSpy may be dead and gone to skag heaven, but that doesn't mean it isn't one of the best local-co-op games on the Xbox 360. Re-releasing it as a Games with Gold title could also hook players in so that they try the Handsome Collection when they upgrade to Xbox One.

Contrast

Contrast is a rare game that could be offered for either 360 or Xbox One. Either way, the stunningly beautiful puzzle platformer deserves to be played by more gamers, and it's not like it is selling like hot cakes. It could also be released for both, if Microsoft wanted to emulate Sony's recent cross-buy focus with PlayStation Plus.

Splinter Cell: Conviction

\n

I've already spoken at length about why Splinter Cell: Conviction is one of the best Xbox 360 exclusives. It's got a snappy, rock solid stealth-action vibe that rewards swift, decisive action, and manipulating your enemies. The portable EMP gadget is a neat little wrinkle, as is the Mark & Execute system that lets you take down multiple foes quickly. If Microsoft actually released it for free with Gold, you could even play the multiplayer again.

Sony's PlayStation Plus put Xbox Live Gold on the ropes a couple years back, but Microsoft's response with Games with Gold was a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, almost all of the decent games in the program have been on Xbox 360, and even then that's been stretched to the limit some months. So here's ten games that Microsoft should offer, both on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is a Homage to Gaming and Sci-Fi https://www.gameskinny.com/rk0mm/saints-row-iv-re-elected-is-a-homage-to-gaming-and-sci-fi https://www.gameskinny.com/rk0mm/saints-row-iv-re-elected-is-a-homage-to-gaming-and-sci-fi Thu, 22 Jan 2015 17:17:10 -0500 Stan Rezaee

Sometime between the release of Saints Row II and before Saints Row: The Third was suggested, the team at Volition Inc. decided to stop taking the franchise seriously. It was a decision that has truly paid off beyond expectations.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is the result of a game made by a development team that said F-it, then brough their masterpiece to the Next-Gen consoles.

With so many games that take themselves too seriously or have forgotten what it means to have some fun, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected brings one of the best games of 2013 to the Next-Gen consoles along with some extra laughs.

Try to follow the plot with a straight face, The Boss has been elected President of the United States following the events of the "Save Shaundi" ending in Saints Row: The Third. However his/her leadership is put to the test when the Zin Empire invades earth and imprisons The Saints in a virtual recreation of Steelport City.

Its up to the player to reunite with the other Saints to liberate the world. Also the story is narrated by Jane Austin while Johnny Gat returns to cause more havoc.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is not just an open world adventure that avoided being a Grand Theft Auto-knockoff but grew to become a homage to gaming culture. Within the context of the game, the development team have paid their respects to iconic titles like Metal Gear Solid, Call of Duty and Devil May Cry.

At the same time it also pays its respects to many great works of science fiction from the 80's to the early 2000's. Trekkies and Browncoats will be quick to get the many references but one should not over look the tributes to classics like They Live.

Old school players will feel comfortable with the familiar gameplay of an RPG set in an open-world environment. The focus now is less about building a criminal empire but more on character development as the player learns to bend the rules of the simulation while acquiring the needed superpowers.

Despite being a radical transformation than its predecessor, this is still the same Steelport City from the last game with little changes. At the same time it feels like most of the mini-games that were brought over from the last game have been dumb-down just to appeal to those who don't like challenges.

While it fails at being a "new game," it strength comes from the dumb fun players will have along with the jabs it makes at itself and other games. Most of the humor will always be a mix of dirty but clever, pushing into being juvenile.

Gamers who missed out on the original back in 2013 should consider going to Steelport City on the next-gen consoles. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is truly a love song to both video game and the science fiction genre.
