The highly anticipated Shadow Warrior 3 from developer Flying Hog Studios and publisher Devolver Digital is set to come out sometime this year, and we've gotten to see just a tiny bit more of the game with the latest gameplay trailer.

The trailer reveals a new level from Shadow Warrior 3 called Motoko's Thunderdome and unveils a new grenade launcher weapon and Motoko's Thunder ability. You can watch the trailer here:

The grenade launcher is a new addition to the wide arsenal available in Shadow Warrior 3. The trailer also shows that you won't be fighting alone in this particular mission: Motoko will be assisting you by shocking your enemies with deadly lightning bolts.

This sneak peek is the third one we've gotten since the beginning of the month, with the previously revealed That Damn Dam mission and the Doomsday Device mission. There's still no word on an official release date, though that announcement could potentially be right around the corner with E3 2021 and the Summer Game Fest coming up.

Shadow Warrior 2 released five years ago for PC and in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It currently holds a "Very Positive" rating on Steam with more than 14,000 reviews.

Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog released a new Shadow Warrior 3 trailer highlighting the "That Damn Dam" mission and, of course, plenty of Shadow Warrior 3's trademark gory action.

It's hard to tell what's actually going on in the mission. There's a dam, presumably, and probably some damns here and there as well — although the biggest "damn" might be the one coming from you during the mission.

Shadow Warrior 3 climbs to the top of the action ladder, then with a violent shove, climbs even higher. Enemies abound and keep on coming, even with gaping holes in their chests, no legs, and plenty of other injuries that should put them out of action.

Part of that damage is thanks to the Seeking Eye gore weapon, a ranged weapon that punctures foes and rips them apart, including the new foe new foe Seeking Shokera. Then there's the Arena Kill system, where you take out as many foes as possible in a small, enclosed arena.

The only thing that could make the new Shadow Warrior 3 trailer better? A giant gas monster.

We knew Shadow Warrior 3 was coming to PC in 2021, but now Devolver Digital has announced Shadow Warrior 3 on PS4 and Xbox One, also set for release later in 2021. The news came alongside an IGN exclusive showing off the shooter in action.

In addition to highlighting the game's lovely environments, which you can use against your foes in characteristically deadly ways, the video shows off a few weapons and noteworthy enemies. One of the weapons is the "Double Trouble," but our favorite reveal has to be the fatal boss Gassy Obaryion.

There's still no firm Shadow Warrior 3 release date. We'll be dual-wielding and avoiding massive gas-filled monsters sometime later this year, though, with more information promised throughout May. Stay tuned.

Gears of War 4 (PC and Xbox One)
\n

The release of Gears of War 4 makes it feel like the series never left. After a few years of relative silence following the mixed public reaction to Gears of War: Judgement, Gears of War 4 brings back a few key members of the original cast to continue with the original story, all gussied up for the jump to a new console generation. This time hopefully with a bit of added drama, Marcus Fenix will return with his own son on the battlefield to combat the resurfaced locust threat.

The highly-anticipated sequel to the surprise hit remake of Shadow Warrior is finally here, and it promises to be even more crammed with gore, weapons, and double entendre than the first game. The game, in addition, adds a more-openly designed world filled with new locations and characters. With newly added attacks and movement skills for combat diversity and mobility, Shadow Warrior 2 looks like it'll be quite the wild ride.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse Physical Release (3DS, October 18)

The excellent Shantae and the Pirate's Curse has been out on multiple platforms for quite a while, but it will finally be receiving a physical release for 3DS this October. A new mode will also be added on in the form of the arcade-style "Super Shantae Nab!!". If you haven't at least checked out Pirate's Curse by this point, this physical release would be a good jumping off point.

Titanfall 2 (PlayStation 4/ Windows PC/ Xbox One, October 28)
\n

Titanfall 2 is the sequel to the burst of innovation that was the short-lived giant mech/ground combat multiplayer FPS Titanfall. Based on what we've seen so far, Titanfall 2 looks like it seeks to do nothing but build on the foundation laid by the original. Changes include six new playable titans, loads of new weapons, and an actual single-player campaign with a more coherent plot than the first game. If luck is on its side, and Respawn Entertainment has worked hard enough, Titanfall 2 may be the game-changing experience that its predecessor promised to be.

Battlefield 1 (PlayStation 4/ Windows PC/ Xbox One, October 21)

Battlefield 1 attempts to liven up the series' typical modern military setting by throwing the conflict back in time to the middle of World War I. Shadow Warrior 2's design choices may not appeal to all fans https://www.gameskinny.com/cl7mx/shadow-warrior-2s-design-choices-may-not-appeal-to-all-fans https://www.gameskinny.com/cl7mx/shadow-warrior-2s-design-choices-may-not-appeal-to-all-fans Wed, 28 Sep 2016 16:14:12 -0400 Damien Smith

Flying Wild Hog are taking Shadow Warrior 2 in a new direction that differs quite a bit from past titles. As opposed to the linear level design of the previous titles, Shadow Warrior 2 is taking a more open approach to its levels. That, along with the new features and mechanics, may not appeal to long-time fans of the series.

Bringing Borderlands to Japan

Some of the new gameplay mechanics are similar to that of Borderlands. While the previous title was a linear level-by-level game, Shadow Warrior 2 operates from a hub. While at the hub, players will be able to accept quests and upgrade abilities.

All the missions except for story-specific events will take place in procedurally generated levels. The generation includes randomized enemy positions, terrain, buildings and weather conditions. This new feature plays into the story that revolves around different dimensions.

Enemies also have health bars, damage points are shown and there are different variations of enemies, including Supreme enemies. Supreme enemies are much bigger, tougher and deal more damage than their normal counterparts. Both the scaling enemies and hubs are features reminiscent of Gearbox Software's Borderlands franchise.

There will be over 70 weapons to get your hands on. All weapons can be leveled up and tuned. You will be able to level up weapons by killing enemies who will drop gems to add elemental properties to your gear.

Why would it not appeal to everyone?

Shadow Warrior 2 is leaving behind the level design it is known for. As far back as 1997, the entire series has always been linear. This choice of design has its merits. Let's be honest, we all like to play a simple and straightforward game from time to time.

Open levels or open worlds can be awesome, but with so many games now adopting this, it is nothing new. Linear games are often more rare nowadays than the open-world variety. Not to mention linear gameplay is what is expected of the series.

The lack of this expected familiarity alone may be off-putting to some fans. That is not including those who do not like procedurally generated levels.

I feel the linear design is what a lot of fans of the 2013 reboot loved. It was a first person shooter that wasn't trying to be modern or fancy. It has some modern mechanics but the game is still very 90's at its heart. Modernizing the sequel too much runs the risk of losing that nostalgic spirit and simplicity.

As for the new features and mechanics, they could also make things too complicated. Like the level design, the name Shadow Warrior brings a sense of simplicity to it. Perhaps this simple nature also fuels the series' nostalgic joy.

What are my thoughts on the game?

Personally, I am excited, but anxious. I generally enjoy games with procedurally generated levels. I do wonder if it the right choice for a series like Shadow Warrior. Flying Wild Hog's games have always been about bringing the 90's back to the FPS genre.

We first saw this from their first title, the old-school FPS Hard Reset and its expansion. This later continued with the reboot to Shadow Warrior. I can't help but feel that Shadow Warrior 2 may be leaving behind what makes the studio unique.

Between the new features, mechanics, procedurally generated levels, and the four player co-op, Shadow Warrior 2 sounds like it is jumping on the modern FPS bandwagon. We already have plenty of games with such features, without this doing the same. I can only hope that the game does enough to separate itself from others while also keeping the nostalgia of the first.

Flying Wild Hog's latest title Shadow Warrior 2 is less than a month away from release. One of the games main features is its weapons. In total, the game is to have over 70 weapons, including blades and explosive firearms.

There is yet to be an official list of the weapons released meaning we only have trailers and gameplay videos to work with. Let's take a look at what is on offer, shall we?

There are three worlds, each with its own design of weapon

Judging from videos and screenshots we can establish that the player will be interacting with three different worlds. The real world, Zilla's cyber world, and the demonic world. Each of the worlds will have their own weapons available to the player.

In Devolver Digital's Cyberwang video for example, we see two different forms of Uzi. While in the real world, we see Lo Wang using dual Uzi. Later in the video, he enters Zilla's cyber world and finds a cyber Uzi. In the picture above, we can see Wang wielding a demonic weapon that is created both out of metal and an organism.

This idea alone is awesome, as it gives a nice variety of weapons from three different worlds. Judging from what can be seen in the videos and screenshots, each world's weapons are very different in design from the others.

What weapons are up for grabs?

As to what weapons are definitely available in the game, depends on where you look. Different videos and screenshots, show off varying weapons. The steam store page trailers and screenshots show the following weapons:

  • Dual Uzi
  • Katana
  • Minigun
  • Bow
  • Chainsaw
  • Sawn-off Shotgun
  • Pump action Shotgun
  • Ninja Claws
  • Laser Rifle
  • Multi-bladed knife
  • Demonic grenade launcher
  • Razorback Katana (Pre-order Bonus)
  • Assault Rifle
  • Dual Blades
  • Revolver

Those are just the weapons you can see from the store page. Devolver Digital's Cyberwang video and another official video show even further weapons. The two video contain the following weapons not listed above:

  • Dual Revolvers
  • Cyber Sword
  • Cyber Blades
  • Cyber Heavy Machine Gun
  • Cyber Uzi
  • Demonic Heavy Machine Gun

Between the screenshots and videos, we are getting a look at a good chunk of the weapons that will be available in the game. That, however, is but 21 out of over 70 weapons that the game will contain. It is going to be interesting to see what other weapons Flying Wild Hog have in store for us.

An arsenal of awesome weapons

The weapons shown so far are all nicely designed. They look visually awesome, but also more importantly, they are all extremely lethal and loud. Some of the designs are quite ludicrous but that is all part of the fun. The over the top nature of the weapons come hand in hand with the equally ridiculous nature of the gameplay.

What we actually have is a large, varied and creative arsenal of weapons for nothing but utter carnage. They are created for nothing more than having good old fashioned FPS fun. Judging from the screenshots and videos, they are going to do exactly as intended.

Shadow Warrior 2 PC system requirements https://www.gameskinny.com/0styu/shadow-warrior-2-pc-system-requirements https://www.gameskinny.com/0styu/shadow-warrior-2-pc-system-requirements Mon, 26 Sep 2016 07:58:06 -0400 Damien Smith

The system requirements are out and are looking quite heavy. They are some of the highest requirements since the release of the DOOM reboot earlier this year.

What are the system requirements?

According to the Shadow Warrior 2's Steam store page the minimum requirements are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10 x64

  • Graphics: Geforce GT 560Ti (1024MB) or Radeon HD 6850 (1024MB) or better
  • Network: Broadband internet connection
  • Storage: 14GB available space

These are the bare minimum that Flying Wild Hog system requirements that Flying Wild Hog believe the game will run on. As for the recommended system requirements, they are double the minimum in most areas. The recommended requirements are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 7/8/8.1/10 x64
  • Processor: Intel core i5-5675C (4 * 3100) or AMD A10-7850k APU (4 * 3700) or equivalent.

Get some Wang

If your PC has the minimum requirements for the game it is advised to lower the graphical settings to either low or medium for the best possible experience. If your system fits the recommended requirements the game should run on high settings without problems.

Lo Wang makes a return with Shadow Warrior 2 scheduled for release October 23.

All in all, there were some great demos at PAX. And this year, it seems like non-AAA devs are coming out on top. While there were certainly some big-name demos that lived up to our expectations, a lot of them were underwhelming (I'm looking at you, Final Fantasy XV).

\n

From South Park's gutter humor to Torment's impeccable world-building, I'm stoked to see these 5 games drop throughout Q4 of this year and Q1 of 2017.

Torment: Tides of Numenera

\n
inXile
\n

This upcoming isometric RPG is the thematic successor to the 1999 title Planescape: Torment. Boasting veteran talent like Creative Lead Colin McComb (Planescape: Torment, Fallout 2, Wasteland 2) and Lead Area Designer George Ziets (Neverwinter Nights 2, Dungeon Siege 3, Fallout New Vegas), Torment: Tides of Numenera hooked me instantly.

\n

Set nearly a billion years in the future, Torment meshes rich fantasy with cyberpunk, sci-fi, and visceral Lovecraftian horror elements. The writing and general aesthetic brought to mind one of my favorite authors, William Gibson (Neuromancer, Mona Lisa Overdrive). The world you play in spans several galaxies, and ventures into the labyrinth of your own broken psyche. The story will take you many places -- from the mind if a dying artificial intelligence into the depths of a colossal organic being, where you venture around inside its veins.

\n

While everyone else is getting hype for Divinity: Original Sin II, I'll be counting down the days until Torment: Tides of Numenera releases on PC and consoles early next year. Another Planescape game has been many years in the making, and from what I've seen of this successor, it was definitely worth the wait.

Death Squared

\n
SMG Studio
\n

You might be doing a double-take and wondering why the heck an indie puzzler game is on this list. But Death Squared is by far some of the most fun I had playing a demo at PAX this year.

\n

This co-op puzzler, which is vaguely reminiscent of Portal, is designed for a seemingly lost aspect of gaming -- LAN or couch co-op. Death Squared is a multiplayer game with no online multiplayer involved, which sounds like a bad idea. Until you actually play it. The game is designed to get people talking, as conversation is key to successfully completing the puzzles.

\n

During the PAX demo, I grabbed a few random passers-by to hop into a 4-person game with me. And after the initial awkwardness of playing with total strangers passed, we were having a blast. A few puzzles in, we were laughing together, cracking jokes, and chatting about strategies like any couch-sitting friends would. And that's pretty freakin' cool.

\n

Death Squared looks to be a great game for friends, families, couples, or anyone who likes a good challenge and pure fun. Of all the games I played at PAX, this is the one I came back to more than once.

Paladins

\n
Hi-Rez Studios
\n

From the studio that brought us SMITE comes this objective-based fantasy FPS. Paladins has been in closed beta for a while, and will soon open its arena to the public for lots of run-and-gun fun.

\n

With the same sense of humor that makes SMITE such a blast to play, Paladins totally hooked me on its demo. What separates it from games like Overwatch or other squad-based shooters is its card-based character loadouts. Players build decks to customize their characters however they want -- whether that means focusing on cooldown reduction, buffing certain abilities, or general power-ups for that character.

\n

Between each round of the match, players can further customize their characters with burn cards that offer further buffs and perks for that round. These burn cards reset after each round, so you have even more options for adapting to the enemy team's playstyle.

\n

It's a dynamic mechanic that adds more customization than is standard for shooters of this type. And loads of fun to boot. Even though I hardly ever play FPS games, I see myself sinking a lot of time into Paladins during the open beta.

Shadow Warrior 2

\n
Flying Wild Hog
\n

This demo had chainsaw swords, magical spikes, and a giant wang. What more could you ask for?

\n

Although I never played the original 1997 Shadow Warrior or the 2013 reboot of the same name, Shadow Warrior 2 looks like tons of fun. The demo, which was showcasing some late-game content and a new zone, was not just nice to look at, but hella fun to play.

\n

Even though I'm not a dedicated (or even very good) FPS player, I had a blast with Shadow Warrior 2. With a wide variety of weapons -- from katanas to cyber-shotguns -- and a world that meshes fantasy and cyberpunk environments, there was lots to love here.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

\n
Ubisoft
\n

Okay, okay. Some AAA demos were pretty awesome. (They couldn't all be bad, could they?) And the Fractured But Whole demo was a hilarious preview of the upcoming sequel to Stick of Truth.

\n

Picking up 4 days after the end of the previous game, Fractured But Whole seems to have all the raunchy South Park humor you know and love in full force. But there are some added little features to take the game's absurdity to the next level -- like analog pooping. You can use both sticks and your triggers to bring a whole new meaning to the term "toilet humor".

\n

It's all the vulgar fun you could hope for from a South Park sequel game, and I can't wait to see the finished product when Fractured But Whole drops on December 16th of this year.

Like any good gaming convention, PAX West was packed with awesome demos. From AAA to indies, developers were bringing their best to the show floor over the course of the weekend.

\n

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard had a massive walkthrough installment with a line that never fell below full capacity. ARK: Survival Evolved came with giant climbable dinosaurs, while Rock Band Rivals had a full stage with fans playing their favorite songs from the upcoming tracks. But a great gimmick does not necessarily a great demo make. And the demos that stood out the most are not the ones you might expect.

\n

Here are the 5 game previews that I just couldn't get out of my head, even after leaving the show floor.

Homefront: The Revolution

\n

Release Date: Q1/Q2 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox One

\n

Homefront: The Revolution is the sequel to FPS Homefront, released in 2012. The game will take place two years after the events of Homefront, and set in Philidelphia. Players will take on the role of Ethan "Birdy" Brady, as he stages a resistance movement against the army of a Korean invasion.

\n

The game will be open world, allowing players to explore Philidelphia where they can wage guerrilla warfare to ambush, infiltrate and use hit and run tactics against their foe. Players will be able to build a resistance group by recruiting revolutionaries, making bases and safehouses, capturing and customising improvised weapons.

\n

Despite the very much unstable development of the game and changing hands, it seems to now be well on its way to becoming a promising title. If the developers deliver on everything promised with this title, it could be something special. If you are looking for an FPS with bold and ambitious ideas and with a bit of difference, Homefront: The Revolution may be worth trying out in early 2016.

Gears of War 4

\n

Release Date: Q4 2016

\n

Platforms: Xbox One

\n

The fourth installment into the Gears of War series. Information is currently scarce on the title with the gameplay trailer not giving much into the game. In an interview with IGN in August, Rod Fergusson from The Coalition stated that he wants the game to invoke something a bit darker, more intriguing and a bit scary.

\n

The story will feature younger, less battle-hardened protagonists JD and Kait. The game appears to be aiming for a more co-operative experience, where Fergusson says, "“Rather than follow those games (Gears 1-3), I’d rather lead by being true to what makes Gears, Gears. That’s why we’re going back to co-op, the two of you sharing that experience".

\n

This new direction of the Gears of War series is certainly interesting and exciting. It is bringing something new and slightly different to what I felt was becoming rather stale. It's certainly a title to keep a very close eye on up to its release at the end of 2016.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

\n

Release Date: December 2016

\n

Platforms: PC

\n

The sequel to the 2014 RPG title Divinity: Original Sin, winner of over 150 Game of the Year awards and nominations. The game will take place generations are the events of the original, where a Bishop Alexander the Innocent has declared all sourcerers to be criminals. The player takes on the role of one such sourcerer and must travel the lands in search of a way to defeat Alexander while avoiding those hunting them for the bounty on their head.

\n

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking to improve on everything from that of the original. Improvements include new types of elemental interactions, new dialog system, new crafting system, skill crafting, new tactical opportunities and challenges, more skill schools, talents, abilities, spells, the list just goes on.

\n

This title is looking to be a pure example of the meaning of what making a sequel truly is and has the potential to being 2016 RPG of the year, only rivaled by Tides of Numenera so far. Larian Studios are certainly ambitious with this title, perhaps more so than any other. Expectations are high, but they always have been with Larian, and every time they have delivered and I reckon they can once again.

Routine

\n

Release Date: 2016

\n

Platforms: PC

\n

Routine is a survival horror game played in first person perspective. The game takes place on an abandoned moon base in an 80s vision future called the Lunar Research Station. The entire crew has gone missing, and the player's objective is to find information on what happened to them.

\n

Just because the station crew is missing, however, does not mean that the player is alone. There are dangers in the base which the player must avoid to the best of their capabilities. The environments procedurally generate each time you play the game, and it contains a roguelike permadeath feature where if the player dies they have to start over.

\n

The developers have certainly focused on the horror elements of the game making the UI and equipment elements to a minimum. The player has a CAT - Cosmonaut Assistant Tool at their disposal, a repair device. The CAT can be upgraded using floppy disks found around the base and has the potential to be a weapon in certain cases.

\n

Routine is looking to be an impressive title with spectacular looking graphics and environments. There is little further information about the game at present, but it is going to be interesting to see what the game is going to offer upon release. It is certainly one to keep an eye on for updates throughout the year.

There will be more abilities and an enhanced upgrade system in the sequel compared to that of the original such as Shadow Walk and Far Reach. Mass Effect Andromeda

\n

Release Date: Q4 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Xbox One and PS4

\n

Currently little is known about Mass Effect Andromeda. At present all that is known is that is takes place many years after Mass Effect 3 and is set in the Andromeda galaxy. It will see the return of the six-wheeler vehicle, Mako and that there will also be a multiplayer component.

\n

Judging from the trailer, it would seem that players will have jet packs available to them in this installment of the game. Bioware says that the game will contain "exciting new worlds to discover, great characters, and intense action."

\n

Despite players beliefs on how the trilogy ended the Mass Effect series were never the less fantastic and notable titles in the last generation. Even with Bioware keeping everything quiet about Mass Effect Andromeda, I am confident that they will deliver as they have with so many other titles. It is easily one of the most anticipated titles coming next year alongside Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Release Date: Q1/Q2 2016

\n

Platforms: PS4

\n

Ratchet & Clank is a reimagining of the 2002 PS2 title of the same name. It's based on the upcoming film by Rainmaker Entertainment and Blockade Entertainment. Along with some other titles on this list, it was originally scheduled for release this year but has since been delayed until spring 2016 along with the film.

\n

Despite it being a reimagining of the first game, it will contain features from other entries in the series, such as strafing and the inclusion of weapons from after the first game. There will also be new weapons introduced into the game such as the Pixelizer, which turns enemies into 8-bit pixels.

\n

It is looking to be a promising game with absolutely beautiful graphics, containing a large variety of weapons and gadgets and it is sure to host a collection of colourful and entertaining characters. Insomniac Games are renown for making fun 3D platforming games, and this reimagining of Racket & Clank is bound to be no different.

Dark Souls 3

\n

Release Date: April 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Xbox One and PS4

\n

Souls fans are in for another treat in 2016 following the release of Bloodborne this year. The fourth installment in the Souls series, Dark Souls 3, is scheduled for released in April 2016. Just like the previous installments, Dark Souls 3 is going to be an action RPG played in a third person perspective.

\n

According to the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the gameplay design is going to follow closely to that of Dark Souls 2. New combat features for Dark Souls 3 includes "Ready Stance" that are special abilities that allow the player to deal much more damage to enemies than normal attacks.

\n

Small gravestones will light up when interacted with, serving as torches but also will provide additional lore to the game. Combat is being made faster and more fluid than in Dark Souls 2. Several player movements such as backstepping and swinging heavy weapons are more rapid.

\n

The game will feature fewer maps than that of the previous game, but they will be interconnected and larger to encourage exploration. Dark Souls 3 is looking to be another great Souls game with improved gameplay; character developed, additional features and it looks just gorgeous.

We Happy Few

\n

Release Date: June 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox One

\n

A blend of inspiration from the Bioshock series and 1960's England, We Happy Few is a procedurally generated first-person survival game set in a dystopian 1960s alternate England, in the fictional town of Wellington Wells.

\n

The face-painted citizens of Wellington Wells are kept under control using a drug called Joy. The player takes the role of a "Downer", a person who refrains from taking Joy. The Downers are an underground resistance movement that are attempting to escape from Wellington Wells.

\n

The town's citizens do not take kindly to "Downers" and players will have to act like they are high on Joy to blend in. They will have to scavenge for food and supplies as they try to survive and ultimately escape Wellington Wells.

\n

We Happy Few is looking to be an exciting and promising title. With an intriguing and colourful setting, crazy characters and beautiful graphics powered by the Unreal 4 engine there is not much to dislike. Without a doubt, it is one of the more unusual and unique titles so far scheduled for release in 2016.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

\n

Release Date: August 23rd, 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One

\n

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is easily one of the most anticipated games scheduled for release in 2016. Originally scheduled for release in February 2016 but as of November 18th has been delayed until August 23rd, 2016.

\n

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will see the return of Adam Jenson, a mechanically augmented agent working for an international coalition against terrorist attacks, in 2029, Prague, two years after the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. After the Panchaea incident of Human Revolution, millions of augmented people mindlessly attacked so-called "naturals".

\n

Since, augmented people are being prosecuted globally. Jenson will have to deal with terrorist groups looking for augmented individuals to be treated equally along with shadowy interests behind the events of the past two years and who controls his organisation.

\n

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is looking to be a most promising addition to the Deus Ex series. The graphics look spectacular, the augmentations awesome and the storyline most interesting. Despite having to wait a further six months for its release, I see nothing but good come from it. If you haven't played Human Revolution, there is no better time to do so, in preparation for the release of Mankind Divided.

XCOM 2

\n

Release Date: February 5th, 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux

\n

After the tremendous success of the XCOM reboot in 2012 it was no surprise to hear a sequel was in development. Firaxis Games took XCOM and modernised it while keeping the essence of what it was to be an XCOM game. XCOM 2 is taking that and bringing the series into a new and interesting direction.

\n

XCOM 2 takes place twenty years after the events of the first game following the continuity of XCOM losing the war against the aliens. Players will once again take on the role of the commander in a new XCOM mobile base, the Avenger. The new base will be a UFO supply barge that's modified to XCOM base specification to fight against the aliens.

\n

Never before has an XCOM game taken this form of direction in its plot. It is going to be interesting to see how it plays out both in story and gameplay. Just like in the previous game, you will have to command squads on missions, research new technology and engineer new equipment and gadgets. Customization of your soldiers is also going to be possible with further customization from that of the original such as genders, nationalities and weapons.

Fast paced action, violence, massive demons, big guns and plenty of gore. If that sounds appealing to you, then Doom may be what you are looking for in 2016. The reboot of the classic and iconic video game from 1993 is looking to be going back to the roots judging by the gameplay videos shown so far.

\n

Using the ID Tech 6 Engine, the graphics for Doom are looking extremely impressive, and the monster designs look fantastic. If you have a craving for an old-school style first person shooter, Doom is going to be a cure.

Darkest Dungeon

\n

Release Date: January 19th, 2016

\n

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux

\n

Darkest Dungeon has been one of the most promising and talked about video games to be part of the Steam Early Access Program. It is a dungeon crawler roguelike where the player inherits an old gothic mansion. The dungeons below have become infested with monsters and evil coming from within portals there. The player must close the portals and cleanse the dungeons of monsters before they take control of the mansion.

\n

To do this, the player must roster adventurers and heroes. On their adventures into the depths of these dungeons, the monsters, traps and horrors within begin to affect their minds. It affects the party members having psychological afflictions such as paranoia, fear or abusive behavior. Such afflictions each lead to various problems making it harder to survive.

\n

It is an interesting twist on the standard dungeon crawler roguelike style. It has a beautiful art style, disturbing enemies, great ideas and has showed promise throughout its entire time in Early Access. If you like hardcore RPGs or looking for a dungeon crawler with a difference, Darkest Dungeon might just be for you.

Of course more shooters will likely land next year (and some of these may get pushed back), with Titanfall 2 possibly the biggest question mark. While news is supposed to land early next year about the title, it seems likely 2017 is a better bet for the actual release date on that franchise.

If you're also wondering just where Deus Ex: Human Revolution was, it's sitting solidly over on our list of most anticipated RPGs for next year instead.

What did you think of our upcoming shooter picks, and what FPS game are you ready for in 2016?

Lawbreakers

\n

Another team-based arena shooter, this PC-only title is set to drop sometime in 2016 and is notable for being free to play. 5 vs 5 combat is the name of the game here, with each type of character changing up the play style from melee to advanced maneuverability to slow moving tank, and from the trailer it looks like some extra elements will get thrown into the mix.

\n

We've been burned by promises of interesting skills in FPS skirmish matches before (remember the ill-fated Shadowrun shooter for the Xbox 360?) but hopefully Lawbreakers manages to keep up with the bigger names found earlier on this list.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3

\n

Moving to an open world model, this title in the Ghost Warrior series puts you in the role of a special forces operative behind enemy lines where he shouldn't be.

\n

The environment looks like it will play a huge role in this game, as you have to deal with adverse weather affecting your equipment, use ropes to scale up and down cliff faces, and activate drones to survey the area before heading out and getting killed by hidden obstacles.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam

\n

Since there's no Arma title confirmed for 2016, Rising Storm 2 is the one to look out for if you prefer a more challenging, realistic shooter environment. Far Cry Primal

\n

The Far Cry series has gone all over the map in terms of story and locations, from the island theme of the original title that bizarrely went sci-fi halfway through to the groundbreaking third entry that introduced the stronghold assault elements and serious interactivity with local wildlife.

\n

Far Cry: Primal is going way, way back in time to a prehistoric era where you can chase down mammoths and rival tribesmen with a spear. If you've ever wanted to play an FPS in 10,000 B.C. then this will be the game for you in 2016.

Battleborn

\n

The first game on this list to actually have a confirmed release date, Battleborn is due to drop on May 3rd, 2016. This Gearbox-developed title has some very clear similarities to Blizzard's Overwatch both in terms of style, gameplay and the huge number of characters available. It remains to be seen which will come out on top, but Gearbox may have a leg up here if the dark humor and outrageous characters of the Borderlands series manage to shine through.

Overwatch

\n

After moving in on the MOBA craze and dominating with Heroes Of The Storm, Blizzard is also jumping on the teamed-based, arena shooter train with Overwatch. Homefront: The Revolution

\n

The original Homefront put a spin on the shooter franchise, keeping all the basic elements there, but putting us just slightly into an alternate future where America is occupied by a more technologically advanced unified Korea. Engaging in Guerrilla warfare to take back the homeland led to some interesting story elements and gameplay.

\n

For the sequel we're headed to Philadelphia, a place that has a whole lot of history when it comes to America and rebellion. Some definite stylistic changes are in place, and it should be a load of fun to drive dirt bikes across a blasted cityscape while strapping explosives to drones and remote controlled cars to cause all sorts of mayhem.

Infinity Ward's Call Of Duty 2016 Title

\n

Debate is fierce as to just what this game will actually be – in fact we've got a whole article dedicated to laying out the arguments for each option! While it seems most likely we'll be getting a sequel to Call Of Duty: Ghosts, it's always possible there's more Modern Warfare action in store, or even something entirely different in a new series kick off.

\n

Either way, the end result is likely to be high quality, as before all the jet-pack mayhem of Advanced Warfare and many other shooters thinking in multiple dimensions, Infinity Ward was always at the top of the pack producing the best Call Of Duty material.

The Modern Warfare series is responsible for bringing up a whole generation of shooter enthusiasts, and no matter which direction Infinity Ward goes, this one is likely to make a big splash when it's finally confirmed.

Doom

\n

Franchise reboot? Check. Long-awaited sequel? Check. Contender for goriest shooter of all time? That's a major check right there. The single player elements will satisfy those who want to chainsaw apart demons rampaging through futuristic Martian structures, while the alpha footage revealed so far on the multiplayer front makes it look like a serious attempt is being made to overtake the frantic fun of the classic Unreal Tournament shoot outs.

\n

It remains to be seen whether the changes in the formula will be heralded as much-needed or maligned by a rabid fan base ready to tear this apart if it doesn't deliver, but either way it's a good bet there will be a strong reaction one way or another when Doom drops in 2016.

If one thing is certain in the gaming industry, it's that there will be a slew of first person shooters available year after year. A staple of gaming that props up several major publishers and developers, the FPS genre is frequently criticized for releasing an endless stream of titles with little innovation.

While the core mechanics may remain the same, 2016 will see its share of interesting and unique titles in the FPS genre that offer up something different. Of course, the flagship titles will be there as well if you prefer something more tried and true. From smaller free-to-play titles to the biggest AAA blockbuster, these are the 11 first person shooters we're most looking forward to next year.

Devolver Digital has just released the début trailer for Flying Wild Hog's Shadow Warrior 2, coming to PC, Xbox One, and PS4 sometime in 2016.

The trailer sadly features no gameplay footage, but does show that there will be four player co-op, new guns, procedurally generated landscapes, and new blades. There also will be a gameplay reveal on Twitch come June 15th at 12:00PM PST / 3 PM EST.

Shadow Warrior 2 will further follow the misadventures of former corporate Shogun, Lo Wang. Now surviving as a reclusive mercenary on the edge of a corrupted world.

My take

I guess I have a soft spot for old school FPS games, and the Shadow Warrior franchise is no exception. I really enjoyed the reboot of Shadow Warrior and can't wait to get my hands on the sequel. I loved the quirky one-liners that Lo Wang spouts during combat and the constant references to old movies and comedians was a cherry on top.
