It's not long now until TJ&E make their big return for the first time in over 15 years. ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is mere days away, whether you're ready for it or not.

I've been waiting a really long time for a new ToeJam & Earl game in the same vein as the 1991 original. Maybe longer than I'd like to admit, about two-thirds of my life. I'm 32, you do the math.

TJ and Big E will be making their way to home consoles for the first time since their excursion in Mission to Earth on the original Xbox in 2002 on March 1st with Back in the Groove, a title more funky than Funkotron and steeped in Jolt Cola flavor.

Back in the Groove brings back the original gameplay found in the first ToeJam & Earl on the Sega Genesis and gives you a whole lot more of it. These days games have a little thing called "persistent progression," and fans of the series may be surprised to find this latest entry has a little bit of that in store for them in the form of hats and present item unlocks. Like a fine wine with an aged steak, both also steeped in Jolt.

Whether you played the original games or not, keep your eyes peeled for our review of ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove on February 28 and get ready to rev up that wallet for its release on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch just one day later on March 1. The '90s are back, baby!

ToeJam and Earl Kickstarter Game Reaches $400,000 Goal Thu, 26 Mar 2015 20:08:42 -0400 TheSteelPenguin

On the last leg of their campaign, Humanature Studios has met its Kickstarter goal for ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove.  With the help of nearly 8,000 backers, they have reached upwards of $446,000, well over their initial goal of $400,000.

For those wondering what to expect from the upcoming ToeJam and Earl game, Humanature has given details on its Kickstarter page.  They describe it as "indie, and old skool like game one, with a fun retro-comics style, and plenty of funk."  Fans of the earlier games will get to see mechanics they are familiar with such as randomly generated levels and hidden presents.  New features being added include secret winged presents and hats that grant stat boosts or abilities.

It is also worth noting that there are still goals Humanature would like to see get met over the course of its last day of funding.  They have met their $425,000 goal which unlocks old school skins for ToeJam and Earl, and are nearing their $450,000 goal which unlocks the Hyperfunk Zone from game two of the series.  Other goals include $600K for release on PS4, $700K for release on XboxOne, and lastly $800K for release on Wii U.  For now, however, it is only set for a PC release possibly some time at the end of this year.

For those that want to support Humanature with their project you can still donate on their Kickstarter campaign page for ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove, but don't wait too long, as funding ends tomorrow!
