Rebellion's Zombie Army 4: Dead War looks like a Hellish good time, and the developer's latest 101 gameplay trailer does a ghoulishly good job of throwing the hype train into high gear.

Spanning six action-packed minutes, Dead War's latest trailer (seen above) introduces us to war-ravaged Europe circa 1945. Undead Hitler is caput. He was killed at the end of the Zombie Army Trilogy. Unfortunately for humanity, his shambling horde still haunts the land, this time with a little help from a new cadre of malefactors wearing goat skulls.

While we don't know the details of Dead War's story, we do know that the game will have a fairly hefty campaign mode, which can be played alone or with up to three friends in 4-player co-op. Locations include the canals of Venice, a zoo, and a town in the shadow of a volcano, presumably somewhere in Italy.

Enemies include the zombie hordes fans have come to expect from the series, including melee hordes, ranged enemies, and tough-as-nails elites that wield everything from flamethrowers to chainsaws. However, there are some new additions to the roster, including zombie sharks and zombie tanks. Yes, literal zombified tanks.

Though the gameplay trailer doesn't show off Dead War's entire arsenal, it does give fans a look at some of the series' more well-known zombie killers, such as the Thompsom submachine gun and the trusty Karabiner 98k sniper rifle. Staying in line with both the Zombie Army Trilogy and the Sniper Elite games the series is based on, X-ray bullet-time also makes a comeback.

Horde mode makes a return, where up to four players can stand against relentless rounds of increasingly difficult enemies. As in the game's campaign mode, Rebellion says that the levels are massive, full of twists and turns ripe for traps and ambushes.

Players will also unlock dozens of perks, weapons upgrades, and item improvements across a 100-level progression system. The 101 gameplay trailer also makes mention of cosmetics and alludes to emotes, though it does not go into any specifics.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is set to release on February 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It is an Epic Store exclusive on PC. Those who pre-order the game will automatically receive the Undead Airman Character Pack.

The Super Deluxe Edition of Dead War includes three additional campaign levels, 9 weapon bundles, 5 weapon skin packs, 4 character packs, and 4 character outfit bundles.

UK developer Rebellion is bringing its popular Zombie Army Trilogy to Nintendo Switch sometime in the first half of 2020.

Zombie Army Trilogy places you in the thick of an alternate World War 2 timeline. You're tasked with gunning down the armies of the undead in three separate "nerve-shredding" campaigns.

Enemies come in a variety of forms, from the standard zombie soldier to armored skeletons, chainsaw-wielding monsters (because naturally), and even a demonic version of Adolf Hitler — who you can kill over and over.

The Switch version of Zombie Army Trilogy includes all content made available in the trilogy's release on other platforms and an ultra-hard Horde mode. It also fully supports HD Rumble, local wireless play, and motion controls.

Zombie Army Trilogy has sold 4 million copies worldwide. A new installment, Zombie Army 4 Dead War, is set to release on other platforms that aren't called Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War E3 2019 Preview — More Zombies Than You Can Snipe At https://www.gameskinny.com/dewse/zombie-army-4-dead-war-e3-2019-preview-more-zombies-than-you-can-snipe-at https://www.gameskinny.com/dewse/zombie-army-4-dead-war-e3-2019-preview-more-zombies-than-you-can-snipe-at Wed, 12 Jun 2019 10:45:02 -0400 Erroll Maas

Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the fourth installment in the zombie-centric Sniper Elite spin-off series, takes place in a world where Hitler revived an army of dead Nazis only to be defeated by a group of allied heroes. In this new installment, the dead have risen once again, and it's up to you to defeat them and make sure they stay dead for good.

For our E3 2019 preview, we played the first level of the campaign, which can be played alone or with up to three other players online. Before starting the level, you choose which character you want to play as and which melee attack you want them to have. Later on, you can also choose different types of weapons and perks.

I chose Sniper Elite protagonist Karl Fairburne as well as the machete attack, although the electric punch melee attack was very tempting.

The level starts off quiet, showing you where to go for your next objective as expected; taking the time to explore the level beforehand can be useful for the unfamiliar player, helping them determine the best spots to camp or defend, as well as stock up on items throughout the level.

Once I reached my objective, a train full of zombies crashed just outside, and it was time to use my set of tools to merc the undead.

At first, I used the sniper rifle and zoomed in on zombies walking in my direction, taking a more traditional Sniper Elite approach. But when I realized that may not be the best option for close-range fighting, I toggled the zoom off to see a more advantageous third-person perspective.

While the sniper rifle seems to be the default weapon, there are plenty of other weapons to find. I tried to mix things up by using the sniper, a nearby turret gun, and some incendiary grenades. Thanks to my previous exploration, I also knew that there were a few explosive containers around in case I needed to take out multiple zombies at once with a well-placed shot or tossed grenade.

Once the turret gun was out of ammo and zombies started to get to close to me, I started to use the machete melee attack, which managed to take out a decent number of zombies despite putting me at risk of losing some health. The brutal takedowns I was able to perform made up for it, though.

While melee attacks are impressive, having to click the left analog stick to use them still feels strange, although I'm sure by the final release, controls will be able to be remapped.

Eventually, I was overwhelmed by the zombie horde and was crawling on the floor with only my pistol. I had the choice to give up, but there was still hope. To regain some of my health and get back up, all I had to do was kill a zombie. I was still taken down shortly after, but having the ability to revive myself was welcome.

After quickly repeating the first section, it was time to explore the train and check for any survivors. Once I went through the first car and got off through the second, more zombies started to appear. This time, because of so few explosive containers in the area, I used some incendiary grenades, which were able to kill multiple zombies in fiery glory.

I also started to utilize an electric (shocking) attachment for my sniper that connected damage to the zombies I shot to others close by, disposing of all of them in quick succession.

By this time, I had also charged my special shot, which was a more powerful and slightly explosive technique I could use once I had killed enough zombies, once again taking down several at once.

Of course, the X-Ray killcam is back in all of its glory. This time, you're getting up-close looks at putrified zombie organs. The killcam activates when you pull off a precise sniper shot, hit multiple zombies with a single sniper shot, or pull off a well-planned explosive kill.

There's not much to say about the feature outside of that. If you've played the Sniper Elite series or one of the previous entries in the Zombie Army Trilogy, you know what to expect here. If not, the screenshot above tells you most of what you need to know.

Being Nazis, some zombies had weapons like knives, saw, and even flamethrowers; many started to show up with guns of their own once I arrived at a later section of the level.

For those who prefer not to use a sniper rifle as their weapon of choice, killing these zombies is the best way to gain new weapons without exploring the rest of a level or section, although it's still best to do so when you have some downtime.

I swapped out my sniper for an assault rifle, and took down a few more zombies on the way to my next objective.

It was then revealed that I had to destroy a blood seal, a mark which raises the dead and in this case, also revives the zombies you've already killed. To prevent an endless respawn of zombies, I was told to kill the guard zombie, which was also the only way to get to the blood seal and destroy it.

Before I had the chance to, however, I was once again overwhelmed by the undead horde and my session was over.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is for those who enjoy zombie games like World War Z and Left 4 Dead 2. It's also for those that like frenetic co-op experiences. The game also provides more of a story than other similar games for those who would like one, although it has serious characters in a campier world.

In the level I played, the music also felt much less intense than similar titles and more like something you would hear on a Halloween playlist or something in a game like Strange Brigade.

Overall, Zombie Army 4: Dead War is the co-op zombie shooter I never knew I wanted. With plenty of weapon and melee choices and some truly interesting mechanics, it's sure to make series fans happy while garnering new ones along the way

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is slated to release sometime in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One. For those curious about the previous installments in the series, Zombie Army Trilogy is currently available for purchase on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

Fresh off the heels of the game's official reveal during the PC Gaming Show at E3 2019, Rebellion has released the first gameplay footage of Zombie Army 4: Dead War

The game takes place directly after the events of Zombie Army Trilogy. Tim Jones, head of creative at Rebellion, and Ryan Baker, lead designer at Rebellion, showed off the game's first level, Milan. The nine-minute trailer is full of zombies, full of brains, and full of brand-new mechanics.

As Zombie Army 4 starts out, players are on what Jones and Baker call "clean-up duty" from the chaos of the last three games. Series' staple Karl Fairburn makes an early appearance, showing off his wounds from his last encounter with the undead.

Of course, things don't stay calm and the dead come back with a vengeance and a purpose.

The Biggest Changes Coming to Zombie Army 4

The gameplay trailer shows off a lot of new mechanics for Dead War. From paranormal weapon enhancements to unique special attacks and environmental traps, Jones and Baker quickly get to the good stuff.

While our writer on the showroom floor met with Rebellion in person and has more info on his hands-on preview here, we do know that safe rooms and weapon upgrade kits will play a large part in Zombie Army 4.

Players can upgrade any of the weapons they're carrying, adding attachments like electrified barrels, and upgrading Tiers that can unlock new attacks. Some provide singular attacks while others provide AoE-type attacks.

Jones and Baker said the biggest upgrades coming to Dead War are progression and upgrade paths for weapons, perks, and characters.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is slated for an "early 2020" release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will feature 4-player co-op.

As has seemingly become a recurring theme with many recently-announced PC games, the end of the trailer features the Epic Games logo. Dead War has not yet been named an exclusive to that store on PC. However, it could follow in the footsteps of Shenmue 3, which is currently facing backlash for ditching Steam at launch.

Have you ever played Left for Dead or the Zombie Army Trilogy before? Love the characters so much you wish they would combine them? Well your wish has been granted, because your all-time favorite L4D characters - Francis, Louis , Zoey, Bill, Ellis, Coach, Rochelle and Nick - will be playing alongside your favorite characters in Zombie Army Trilogy

With more playable characters, there is no stopping this post-apocalyptic team as you try to survive throughout the game.

Valve Corporation gave Rebellion rights to use their characters so users could enhance their own gaming experience and use some of their favorite players. The best part, the characters are free (on Steam of course) and you can also download a free digital comic revealing how the Left for Dead characters were infused in the Zombie Army Trilogy video game.

Use Rochelle, Zoey, Nick and Bill in the horde mode, or complete missions with Coach, Francis, Ellis and Louis. Whatever floats your zombie-hunting boat.

Happy hunting everyone!
