PlayStation 4 Ad Tops YouTube’s Ad Charts for February

An ad to beat all ads? For now, yes.

Sony takes the prize for most viewed ad on YouTube for February, beating out Samsung, Pepsi, and a slew of Super Bowl ads with its advertisement for the PlayStation 4.

The ad in question can be seen above. It’s amazing to think how popular gaming is today, that an advertisement for a gaming console can beat out ads for other, bigger products.

Marketing for this generation.

While this may not seem like much, this is good news for Sony fans. Sony’s marketing department dwarfs in comparison to Microsoft’s, but this more affordable strategy (as opposed to bombing television networks) can be just as effective as demonstrated over the past month.

What is interesting here is that Sony’s old marketing firm, Deutsch Inc, handled the campaign as opposed to their new firm, Carat Global. How Carat will handle the promotion of the PlayStation brand has yet to be seen, but it looks like combining television and internet-based marketing is going to be the way to go this time around.
