Amazon Prime members to get discount on preorders and new releases

Amazon ups the ante with 20% off new releases and pre-orders.

Amazon keeps adding to the deals. Prime members will now get a 20% discount on all pre-orders and new release video games.

Announced on Amazon’s FAQ page, the window for new release discounts will be up to two weeks after the game’s release. It should be noted that the deal is for physical copies of the games only, and does not include console bundles, etc…

The 20% discount will not show up until checkout, and it is only taken off the list price. It will not add to any existing sale. Amazon Prime members who already have a pre-order will also receive the price drop.

It seems like this is a permanent standard for Amazon and will not just be a limited time offer. This appears to be Amazon’s counter to competitors such as Best Buy and GameStop. Best Buy has their Gamer’s Club Unlocked program which has a 20% discount on new games. Meanwhile, GameStop has the Powerup Rewards Pro membership that has a rewards system per every purchase and trade in. Also, it includes an additional 10% on store credit trade-ins and yearly subscription to Game Informer magazine. Both programs cost $14.99 a year. Amazon Prime costs $99.99 a year, although its benefits aren’t limited to just games.

So what do you think of Amazon’s new deal? Will it cause you to keep Amazon Prime past the free trial period? Let us know in the comments below.
