Mindfield Games’ immersive space explorer gets release date

P.O.L.L.E.N, a virtual reality game for PC and Oculus Rift, will be released April 20th.

Virtual reality software developer Mindfield Games has announced an April 20 release date for their first-person space exploration adventure P.O.L.L.E.N. It will be available for Windows PCs via Steam and the Humble Store with mouse and keyboard support, and will also come with gamepad support.

An Oculus Rift beta version is also in the works for the 20th of April; it will be stabilized with updates shortly after.

Olli Sinerma, co-founder of Mindfield Games, states:

“We’ve been crafting P.O.L.L.E.N for two and a half years, beginning on the earliest Oculus development kits, and we’re thrilled for players to soon experience it for themselves with the game’s full PC launch and the initial beta rollout of our VR edition.”

The game takes place in an alternate universe, in the 1990s. In this alternate universe, the Internet was never invented and Lee Harvey Oswald never assassinated JFK. As a result, the space race continued to captivate minds as the US and the Soviets combine their efforts in order to explore what lies beyond Earth. Eventually, mining and research companies were constructed all across the Solar System. It is in Station M — recently built by RAMA Industries and situated on one of Saturn’s moons — that the game takes place. The player’s job is to investigate matters after a member of the research team at Station M goes missing.

Everything is interactive in P.O.L.L.E.N. One seemingly useless piece of junk could hold the key to a puzzle later on in the game.

From Sandboxstrat.com:

P.O.L.L.E.N’s real-time binaural soundscape has been designed to let players perceive it in the most natural way, as human ears hear it, with atmospheric audio that tells its own story as players explore the deserted environments of this remote and ominous world.”
