Sony Aware That Their Lineup for the PS4 is Sparse

Andrew House, President of PlayStation, announced last week that he is aware PS4 is lacking in the first-party game department.

On May 27th during PlayStation’s Investor Day conference, Andrew House, President of the PlayStation division of Sony, openly addressed the significant issue concerning the PS4’s lack of first party games.

In a previous article, I addressed the fact that the PS4’s lacking in the exclusive games department might hint at a serious problem for the console.

The few big names connected to Sony and the PS4 appear to be struggling–or worse, unable–to deliver in 2015. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been delayed until 2016, as was the next installment in the Ratchet and Clank series, apparently in order to coincide with its upcoming movie.

Excluding the somewhat recent release of Bloodborne, the fact that the PS4 has not had a highly reviewed exclusive might be a problem for Sony in the future.

House himself stated:

Our first party lineup is a little sparse this year, so I think this places even greater emphasis on getting good third party support.

It is a bit disconcerting that the President himself admits that the PS4 has a rather underwhelming number of first-party games. Yet the fact that the PlayStation Company is aware of this does demonstrate that this fact has not slipped by them. Relying solely on third-party games may not be the wisest course of action, especially if they try to “put all their eggs in one basket.”

I'm a recent graduate from Kenyon College with an English Major, emphasis in Creative Writing, and a History Minor. I love video games passionately. I love most games, a little iffy on Sport Games. The first game I can remember playing was either Goldeneye on the Nintendo 64 or the first Harry Potter computer game. The first console/gaming device I can remember owning was a Gameboy Advance and I loved my Pokemon Silver game to death.
