BioWare has released the final DLC for Dragon Age Inquisition, a conclusion that’s supposed to bring the story to a satisfying end, but how does it fare?
Well, its obvious from the first ten minutes that BioWare put their heart and soul into making a serious and mysterious plot while also giving your teammates plenty of conversation and wacky situations. As BioWare has previously stated, this DLC takes place around two years since the fight with Corypheus – and some, mostly the kingdom of Fereldan, are nervous about the Inquisition’s existence as an unaligned military force.
This DLC hits the ground running.
The plot concerns the Qunari and the threat of a possible invasion via the Eluvians. There are multiple decisions that you have to make that have a solid weight to them. Even as the player is dealing with Qunari attempting to assassinate them, there is time to talk to your party members during and between the main quests.
I have to say that the interactions with these characters that I have grown to love are simply amazing. After every cutscene, where you catch up with your party members, I had a big stupid grin on my face. BioWare really knows how to write clever and witty dialogue when it comes to their main cast of characters, like in Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC.
Since the Qunari are invading via the Eluvians, naturally you have to pursue them, which takes you through various new areas around Ferelden and Orlais. During the main missions, there are also multiple prompts for companion dialogue, which I loved deeply.
There are many battles to fight and bosses to defeat in order to figure out why the Qunari are attacking. Puzzles were pretty common too, but they were hit or miss – some felt easy to solve, while others had me scratching my head in confusion.
And all this excitement is set a to whole bunch of new music that gives Trespasser the badass, epic feel that Dragon Age is known for.
Trespasser’s true strength is that it delves deeply into the oldest history of Thedas and answers a lot of questions and leaves the player wanting more.
The ending is spectacular and definitely sets up what will hopefully be the next game in the franchise. As BioWare wanted it to, it really gives a sense of closure…for this chapter in the Dragon Age universe, at least.
If you loved Dragon Age Inquisition and have been on the fence about which DLC to buy for it, get Trespasser. Its story is well put together, the cutscenes are spectacular, and dialogue from the companions is heartfelt. Trespasser brings one last adventure for the Inquisitor and their companions, and it does so with the charming flair and style that BioWare is known for.
It’s currently available for around $15 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. That might seem a bit much for some, but I guarantee that if you enjoyed the main story of Dragon Age Inquisition, this DLC is worth the admission price and gives loyal fans the closing they deserve.
