Life is Strange: Episode 5 "Polarized" is amazing

This last chapter had me in tears. The choice between right and wrong is so difficult.

The anxiety and fear that came along with Episode 5 of Life is Strange was some of the worst I have ever felt. Games don’t do that anymore. Ever since Episode 1 this game has had everyone at the edge of their seats screaming for the next chapter.

So, finally, here we are at the last chapter of this amazing game.

If you haven’t played Life is Strange, let me give you a small brief with a small spoiler. You play a girl named Max Caulfield who is a student at Blackwell Academy. Well, one day she gets rewind powers and begins using them constantly to save her best friend Chloe Price. Boom! There it is the start of the story, without a whole mess of spoilers. If you want to know more about the story get the game.

For those of you who have kept track of the chapters, whether on YouTube or playing the game yourself, you know the complex emotions that have come with this game since the very beginning. This beautiful masterpiece has not only brought a new art perspective to games. But is also brings the connection with the characters we as gamers crave for. It’s not an action-packed game with constant gunfire or explosions. Life is Strange is an emotionally driven raw game, that won’t let your mind rest.

Here come the spoilers. So for anyone who hasn’t played this last chapter, play it now! Anyone who hasn’t played the game, buy it on Steam. It is so worth the money even though it’s not a MMO.

Chapter 5 starts right after Chloe gets shot in the forehead (I will never be able to get that image out of my mind), and Mr. Jefferson takes Max to his Dark Room. Max, of course, escapes - or there wouldn’t be much of a story. But, this whole chapter isn’t like the rest of them, where Max is running around Arcadia Bay trying to figure out what to do.

She is tossed into the ripples of time she has created.

Once she gets to Warren to retrieve the photograph he took them last chapter. Max goes back to that time trying to save Chloe, again.

Once Max gets back, explains to Chloe all the things that are about to take place. She goes back in time to try and make things right so the tornado doesn’t wreck the town. Only, she makes things worse. When she gets back from that time trip, Chloe and Max are standing on the beach looking right at the tornado. The two begin going towards the lighthouse because it’s safe. Then Max passes out falling into a spiral of timelines. Once there she is filled with criticism for all the choices she has ever made during the week.

A final tough choice

As Max wakes up from the dream she is faced with the inevitable decision to kill Chloe or save Arcadia Bay. Now I won’t tell you which one I picked, but be sure to choose carefully because you can’t reverse this decision.

On a scale from 1 to 10 for my personal rating of chapter 5, I give it a 9. I felt stuck in this chapter, unlike the others. My decisions were limited this time around, mainly because your focus is less on time travel and more on saving Chloe or Arcadia Bay. So there isn't a lot of need for too many decisions, everything is straight forward.

I will finally leave off with this. DontNod Entertainment, you have wrecked me mentally with this game. Bravo, and I really hope you continue creating beautiful masterpieces like this.

If you want to buy this game you can get it on Steam for $19.99. Once you play through, make sure to comment about which choice you make at the end. If you have already played the game go ahead and tell me in the comments what choice you made, and how do you feel about it.

Good to know! I've only ever played the first episode and that was pretty recently as well. Got a few days off work coming up next week. Bought the other four episodes, weather forecasts say a few dark and stormy days are in the future, looking forward to a good, emotional (?) gaming retreat :D

After episode 4 I couldn't sleep for like 3 days. I was so upset at what happened and even though I figured it would get fixed in Episode 5 I was still upset. Also didn't help that in my head Chloe acts like someone I love.

Besides the Mass Effect-ish ending I thought it was a decent episode.

It was a decent episode. I can't wait to see what DontNod does next. They kept teasing my emotions throughout this whole game.
