When it comes to games, they can usually be pretty hit and miss. You’ll definitely find ones that are not geared toward more than one person, but on the other side of that coin, you’ll find games that are more suited for their multiplayer components and not their single player campaigns.
But the one thing I love about multiplayer games is that they are all about bringing gamers together to share a pleasant and fun experience. Here is a list of my top five multiplayer games!
Battlefield 4
The game is only in its beta stage and isn’t scheduled to come out until October 29th of this year, but I love the beta so much that I pre-ordered the game–and I NEVER do that! It will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and One, and PlayStation 3 and 4.
Battlefield 4 is more strategic, fast paced, and immersive than the previous third installment of the series. It combines foot soldiers, air support, and heavy armoured vehicles to create a truly unique experience compared to other first-person military shooters.
Whether playing in a party of your friends or joining a server randomly, you get what you put into Battlefield, meaning that if you want to play with a team you can, and should, because it is so much fun!
Update as of 12/6: Battlefield 4 is NOT ready to be played with your friends, don’t under any circumstances expose your friends to this disappointment! You can take a look at some of the problems Battlefield 4 is having including campaign mode bugs and multiplayer crashes.
Mario Kart
I’ve been playing Mario Kart since I could hold a controller, and it is still by far my favorite racing game. If you don’t know about or have never played this game… that’s just wrong!
Mario Kart, as many of you should know, quickly turns into a game of “if you throw that red shell/blue shell/banana peel at me one more time I SWEAR…” One blogger recently stated it perfectly, “There is NO friendship in Mario Kart,” but it makes for a fun day!
Portal 2
It’s the sequel to Portal and quite frankly one of the best puzzle games of all time. You have to work your way out of rooms using your portal gun and the objects in the room. It can be challenging, frustrating, fun, and all of the above. I love when you play with a friend you get to blame each other for being the reason you should have passed a specific level 2 hours ago!
Although it does have a single player mode, it is so much fun trying to figure out how to get out of a room–especially when your partner won’t shoot the dang portal in right place! You can find this game on Steam for Windows and Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3!
Magic: the Gathering
Magic: the Gathering, for those of you who have been living under a rock for the past 20 years, is the first ever trading card game and came out in 1993. My brother first got me to play the game with him and his friends over ten years ago, so this game, in particular, brings back fond memories.
Each opponent is known as “plainswalker” and has 20 life points that you have to destroy using your attacks from the cards that you have in your deck. Your deck consists of any combination of creatures, spells, and mana which is the only way you can cast your creatures and spells. Once your opponent reaches 0 life points you have won the game.
Magic: the Gathering can be played with two to however many players you decide on, but beware the more people involved in the game the more strategic you have to be and it CAN get a little confusing!
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
CS:Go has been a staple in my library of games since it came out a little over a year ago. This has to do with the fact that the first Counter Strike released in 2000 as a mod to Half-Life, which well…who doesn’t love Half-Life?
Global Offensive features five game modes that are all equally great. You can play in Casual mode and in Competitive, which is where things really heat up! Most people tend to play Defuse missions where the terrorist team must plant a bomb and detonate it at one of the two possible bomb sites on the map. Hostage missions also draw in a lot of traffic because it takes a lot of strategy to pick up and carry one hostage at a time to the extraction zone while the terrorist team is trying to prevent you from getting out alive.
There is also Arms Race and Demolition both of which disables the player from buying weapons but instead forces them to use the weapons given to them. With Demolition you also have and added objective of planting or defusing a bomb depending on the team you are on. The last mode of the game is Deathmatch where your goal is to get the most amount of points. Your points in this mode are determined by the weapons you choose and how many kills you get.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is fun to play online whether you have physical friends in the room or not. But it makes the experience so much more fun if you have a friend you can chat to throughout the game and the CS:GOcommunity has a lot of gamers that talk in-game so it is not hard to find someone to play with. Microsoft Windows, OS X, PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade all have this game available today!
