How to QB Slide, Throw the Ball Away in Madden 21
No matter what plays you call in Madden 20 or Madden 21, you sometimes have to slide with your QB or throw the ball away. Ducking under a pressing linebacker for the first down is better than taking a hit, and if a defensive end is breathing down your neck in the pocket, throwing the ball away is better than a sack.
Whatever the scenario, you'll want to keep your quarterback safe. You'll also want to make sure that you hold on to the pigskin, because getting rocked greatly increases your chances of fumbling the football.
It doesn't matter if you're playing as Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson, Tom Brady or Lamar Jackson: not getting hit is a big priority. In these situations, you'll have two options at your disposal: slide or throw the ball away.
It seems rather simple to just slide or throw the ball away — and it is! It's exactly the same as it was in Madden 20, but if you're new to the show, Madden 21 doesn't really tell you how to do either one. Here are some tips on how to do both, regardless of player ratings or abilities.
How to QB Slide in Madden 21
How to QB Slide on Xbox One
To QB slide on Xbox One, pass the line of scrimmage and hit "X." If you're pressing forward the control stick, the QB will slide. However, if you are holding "RT" and sprinting, your QB will dive. The only way to sprint and slide is to hold "RT" and press "LT + X."
How to QB Slide on the PS4
QB sliding on the PS4 is also just as simple: all you have to do is pas the line of scrimmage without sprinting and press "Square" while holding forward on the control stick. Like Xbox One, if you are holding "R2" and sprinting, your QB will dive. The only way to sprint and slide is to hold "R2" and press "L2 + Square."
How to Throw the Ball Away in Madden 21
Conversely, there may be times when the pocket is collapsing around you and the outside linebackers are rushing toward you faster than freight trains. You won't be able to slide in these situations. It's little details like these you have to account for.
Instead, you'll need to throw the ball away and forfeit the down to not lose any yardage, turn the ball over, or let a linebacker come crashing into your QB. Knowing how to pass out of bounds in these situations is critical.
To throw the ball away in Madden 20, just press down on the right analog stick. You'll be able to throw away once you've taken your full 5-step drop and get outside of the pocket.
It's that simple to slide and throw the ball away in the latest version of Madden. But before taking to the field, head over to Madden 21's practice mode and give these exercises a quick whirl to get the feel for their animations. Check here for more Madden 21 guides.
