Infinity Ward Says Call of Duty Players “Aren’t Hardcore”

The Call of Duty franchise is one of the most successful games to date, selling millions of copies–but Infinity Ward’s Executive Producer, Mark Rubin has been on a roll and dropped some surprising bombshells.

Bombshells like:

We have an enormous amount of players who are more in the casual game space, but they play a lot.

Shocking right? CoD is not the definition of a casual game for many people.

Rubin also mentioned that this so-called “casual” audience is the reason a female character was introduced to the multiplayer side of Ghosts.

“We cover such a dramatic range of people who play our game that we wanted to be as inclusive as we possibly could with character customization. And that’s where the idea came from. Why wouldn’t we have a female [option] then?”

I suspect that remark may cause some rejoicing and some outrage among girl gamers. On one hand, Infinity Ward is finally admitting that girls play games. On the other hand, Call of Duty has been around for a decade, the first release was October 23rd, 2003. It’s an option that probably should have been introduced a long time ago.

Rubin concluded saying that Infinity Ward will not be making too many drastic changes to avoid alienating players.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is due out in November for the Xbox 360, PS3 and as launch titles for the next generation.
