Dungeon Defenders 2 Announced, Going Free to Play

Dungeon Defenders is getting a sequel, and it's a.. MOBA? Well, half-MOBA.

The original Dungeon Defenders game mixed action combat with classic tower defense gameplay staples — a hybrid of genres that has found itself popular over the past couple of years. Dungeon Defenders 2 will have more of the same, but will be packed with a competitive MOBA-style mode as well.

Developer Trendy Entertainment will be doling out more information on the upcoming title this Friday, and will be giving PAX East attendees a chance to play the new mode. Those of us not lucky enough to go to PAX will have to join the beta key waiting list.

Trendy promises that the MOBA aspect of the title will have persistent hero customization and leveling, as well as a simpler item system for new players to get used to the game. Dungeon Defenders 2 will also have cross-platform support, though whether that covers the full spectrum of release platforms (PC, Mac, iOS, web-based, and Android) is yet to be known.

Head over the official site for more information. They have a nifty FAQ with some quick and easy information, and will be updating the site with brand new information on Dungeon Defenders 2 on Friday.
