New NES/Famicom game Kira Kira Star Night DX coming this July

A new Famicom title is launching in Japan! Kira Kira Star Night DX, a fast-paced action game about collecting stars, was developed by a manga artist

Yes, you read that right: there's a new NES--or rather, a Famicom--game hitting the streets of Japan! Titled Kira Kira Star Night DX, the game is the sequel to an indie hit released back in 2013 (also released for the Famicom!), and will release this July. There is no set price, although the game is listed on Amazon Japan for the US equivalent of $49.

A fast-paced action game revolving around collecting stars, Kira Kira Star Night DX was created by indie developer RIKI, who according to the game's official English site is also a manga illustrator. The game boasts advanced graphical techniques for a Famicom/NES title and hosts chiptune music produced by Manami Matsumae (Mega Man), Yuzo Koshiro (Kid Icarus: Uprising) and more!

The game is obviously not licensed by Nintendo, but Columbus Circle will publish the game as a Japan-exclusive. Perhaps we might see this sequel as a digital download in the western sphere? In the meantime, check out the trailer below!

Very impressive use of the Famicom hardware. I assume it can have so many details in the backdrops and such without any slowdown because there aren't a bunch of sprites on-screen but it's not like we can verify the footage seen in the trailer is being run on actual hardware and isn't the PC version. Great mixing on the music, too. Good use of the soundchip.

I'll probably buy a physical copy.
