Deep Down is said to help expand Sony’s free-to-play market. The news was confirmed by Sony’s president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida, via Twitter, that Capcom’s upcoming title will be free-to-play on PS4.

An open beta of the title is planned to be released close to the PS4 launch date. Beta will begin in Japan February of next year, which is a few months after the PlayStation 4 is released in Europe and North America

Deep Down will feature generated dungeons, but despite the dark fantasy aspects, producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed that the game will take place in a futuristic setting. The title will in fact take place in New York circa 2094.

Deep Down will run on Capcom’s Panta Rhei engine. This game should be a shining example of what Capcom’s engines can do.

Are you guys excited about the free-to-play aspect of Deep Down? Will it influence your decision to play or not?
