This Ice Ain’t Nice
So uhh, Trundle’s rework is done. Now he’s a super macho troll from Freljord, with all the icy accoutrements to boot. Gameplay wise, he hasn’t changed too much. The bonus healing he gets is nice and all, and it’s good to see him get some attention. But was it really worth it?
Fans have been majorly split over Trundle’s redesign. A lot of people love the new skins and animations, and the new effects on his abilities. But a lot of people, like me, fell in love with Trundle because of the way he used to be. A lovable troll, who took on the fiendish curse of decay and agony his tribe suffered, barely staying alive thanks to his amazing natural regeneration.

Back when the Journal of Justice was still going strong, I remember one of the articles inside asking Trundle if he’d had any luck in curing the curse he had taken upon himself. One suggestion was to ask Soraka, who is a divine healer. Trundle responded saying it was a curse, not a wound. It couldn’t just be healed away, although healing helped. And Soraka was generous with the healing, and he thought she was a sweet gal.
I guess this isn’t just about me being upset with the change to Trundle’s look and back story. I miss the little snippets of lore and personality that the Journal of Justice would bring. Little hints at new items or champions, the political intrigue. Heck, I remember suppressing a giggle seeing LeBlanc’s face reflect in Swain’s chest plate back when the Crystal Scar map was being released. I wish they would bring it back. I wish it so bad, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

Anyways, I’ll most likely give new Trundle a shot to see how he plays, as well as new Sejuani. But the flavor of a hero is what tended to draw me to them. Their quotes, back story, and League Judgements really helped me pick out my favorite–Swain. I just don’t feel any of that with a lot of these newest champs.
