Get out your wallets!

If anyone is anyone, they’re on Steam right now as the Summer sale takes off with lagging servers and rampant 503’s.

I’m important–I sat here and hit F5 until it loaded.

Importance aside, it’s tradition at this point for Steam to offer an achievement for purchases and tasks completed during their Summer and Holiday sales. This year, however, Valve has switched things up.

Steam has been offering trading cards in games for the last few weeks, but only in certain games. The cards can be traded (…obviously), or they can be crafted into badges, which are basically the new achievement on Steam. Badges determine your Steam level, which shows up in the top right corner of your profile.

Yes, I play Civ 5 sometimes. Usually as Korea. Because k-pop.

This summer, Steam is promoting its trading cards by allowing you to craft their Summer Getaway Badge. Users must collect all ten unique cards to craft this badge, which makes it all the more validating to gamers who need virtual validation.

I am definitely one of those gamers. As a completionist, this is will be the death of my wallet.

There are a few ways you can craft this badge:
  • You’ll receive a card in your inventory for every $10 you spend during the sale
  • Every third community vote will give you a random card
  • If you crafted a badge up to a week before the Summer sale, it gave you a mystery card which is now a Summer Getaway card.
  • Lastly, you can trade duplicates for other cards to complete your collection.

Only the unique cards mentioned on the Badges page will give you the ability to craft the Summer Getaway Badge.

I definitely haven’t bought Rogue Legacy (also on sale) for my first card, which happens to be the Skyrim card.
