E3 2014 is right around the corner.
It will be the first E3 since console bigwigs Microsoft and Sony launched their Generation 8 machines – and it won’t only be those two giants showcasing their wares this year. Nintendo, Ubisoft, and EA are also promising exciting new things to come.
EA – It’s about Staying in the Game
Star Wars: Battlefront. It’s that simple for me. This game needs to be shown. It needs to bring a depth to the Star Wars franchise that we haven’t had since Republic Commando, Knights of the old Republic, and the original Battlefront were gracing our screens.
Knights of the Old Republic 3? I can dream.
Microsoft – Time to Play Hardball
Halo. It is that simple, anything Halo-related that comes out of E3 is a bonus for me. Halo 5 cinematic? Yes, please. Halo: The Master Chief Collection? Where do I send a kidney? A Halo TV update? Cancel all my appointments!
An uber-provement on Xbox Live gold would be awesome!
Nintendo – Third Year. Third-Party Support
Nintendo need to pull something huge out the bag this E3. I have several close friends who are riding on the hopes that Zelda: Majora’s Mask will be released on 3DS. Me? I want it on Wii U. Why another remake you may ask? Majora’s Mask was vastly under-appreciated. It came so far into the N64’s lifetime that it was running into the force-to-be that was Sony and never really got a chance.
Third-party support is what I am looking forward to most!
Sony – Entering Uncharted Territory
Naughty Dog. Another Uncharted, and a remastering of The Last of Us? Bring it on. I was afraid that both franchises would stay on the PS3, with Naughty Dog risking a new IP. This is a risk that Sony can’t afford… they have very few new IPs coming through. The same thing has been happening with both Microsoft and Nintendo, but the difference remains that both companies have an established mascot of sorts (Master Chief and Mario, respectively) while Sony has nothing.
Sony need a mascot. Time to bring back Crash!
Ubisoft – Time to Call in the Patriots
Assassin’s Creed, The Division, Far Cry, Rayman, The Crew, and Just Dance. We know they’ll be there, it just wouldn’t be E3 without them.
But Rainbow Six has been long removed from the Ubisoft resume, and it was once a strong leader on Xbox Live. The Vegas titles never quite hit the mark like 3 and Black Arrow did, but Patriots can do this, it can bring some life to an overall stale genre.
