Wolfenstein: The New Order Releasing this May, Comes with Doom Beta Access

Bethesda announces Wolfenstein: The New Order is coming this May, and that pre-orders include access to the beta for the next game in the Doom franchise.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is hitting consoles and PC May 20 in North America and May 23 in Europe, according to an announcement made by Bethesda Softworks today. Pre-orders of the reboot also include access to the beta for the long-awaited new Doom title from id Software.

According to the site’s official FAQ, pre-orders of boxed copies of Wolfenstein: The New Order will include “…a key code along with code redemption instructions.” At this point the promotion is only referring to the new installment as Doom, as opposed to Doom 4, the title id announced back in 2008. Since then id has claimed the game is in development for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but additional details have been scant.

The announcement of a beta for the game proves the game is coming along, but Bethesda is also keeping quiet about a release date for Doom, and when access to the beta begins.

“Although you’ll receive the DOOM beta key code with your copy of Wolfenstein: The New Order, the DOOM beta won’t begin until a later, yet-to-be announced date,” the FAQ reads. “We will contact you with news and updates surrounding the start of the DOOM beta via the email address provided during the key code redemption process.”

At this point, Bethesda also claims pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order is the only way to ensure access to the beta.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, a newer studio comprised of some of the folks that worked on The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick games at Starbreeze Studios. The reboot of the classic first-person shooter focuses on narrative over multiplayer, and takes place in an alternate history 1960s where “…the monstrous Nazi regime has used mysterious advanced technology to win World War II.” The game is coming to PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Xbox One, and PS4.
