Pokemon X & Y Bringing Popular Generation 1 Pokemon Back

Popular Generation 1 Pokemon Evolve Again in Pokemon's Newest Installment

An announcement today, via Nintendo Direct, broke the news that the starter Pokémon from Pokémon Red and Blue are coming back to Pokémon X & Y. Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle will return for the newest Pokémon adventure.

The biggest news is their most evolved forms (Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise) can be Mega evolved. Their names don't change but their physical appearance will (as pictured above). The evolved forms will have advanced special attacks and abilities specific to each character.

If you're interested in seeing more their Mega Evolved forms, seeing them in action or want to know what a "Mega Evolved means" (I'll be honest, I had to look it up) go here and check out all the goodness in GIF form.

What do you think about this? Are you guys OK with them evolving arguably the most recognizable Pokémon of all time (short of Pikachu)? Let's debate down in the comments!

I look at this as somewhat of an homage to the Pokemon games of the past. This generation is clearly taking it to a different place, and I think the devs are more or less paying respects.

I don't see it as an issue really. As a Gen 1-er my initial reaction was to over-react. But honestly, I'm OK with it. After reading about their upgrades and such I view this as a character redesign than a total changing of beloved previous characters
