A rumor has emerged from an ad that’s been circulating online over the past few days: The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy may eventually hit other consoles and PC some time in the future. In a Best Buy sales ad found online, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is labeled as a one-year console exclusive release.

On top of that, PlayStation Ireland replied to a user on Twitter that the N. Sane Trilogy was indefinitely exclusive to the PlayStation 4. However, the tweet was deleted soon afterward.

The N. Sane Trilogy, which includes Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped will contain visually upgraded and enhanced versions of each game for the PlayStation 4, but it’s not been confirmed if the game will ever be released on other platforms.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy launches on PS4 on June 30th. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news and info on the marsupial mascot.

The Best Video Game Deals Going on Now You (May) Not Know About Sun, 11 Dec 2016 10:54:35 -0500 Jonathan Moore

As the holidays draw ever closer, more and more retailers -- and even several gaming companies like Sony and Microsoft -- are getting into the holiday spirit by putting games, peripherals and even console bundles on sale. And since we know that you can’t be everywhere at once, we’ve done the digging for you and uncovered a few gaming deals you might not have been aware of.

From Wal-Mart to Target to the PlayStation Store and beyond, here are some of the best video game deals going on right now.

Target – Skylanders Imaginators Starter Pack for PS4, Xbox One and WiiU

Rating: 4/5

Sale price: $39.99

Buy it on:

Normally priced at $79.99 for all three current-gen systems, this sale is a no-brainer, especially for toy and video game lovers. Melding some of the very best mechanics from RPGs and action-adventure games, Skylanders Imaginators is rated E for Everyone, is hyper kid-friendly and is a game that everyone in the family can enjoy.

Essential reading: Skylanders Imaginators Brings Imagination to Life

But keep in mind: Skylanders Imaginators is a game that requires real-life toys to play. As this is the game’s starter pack, some areas and features of the game will be locked until you purchase and use other Skylanders figures.

These additional figures cost between $12.99 and $19.99, with many on sale via Target right now for $14.99.

Wal-Mart – Preowned Xbox One and PlayStation 4 Games

Back in 2014, Wal-Mart began accepting video game trade-ins, becoming a direct competitor with industry giant Gamestop in the process. Today, the big box-store has one of the largest collections of used video games among the companies that engage in the enterprise.

This holiday, Wal-Mart is rolling back prices on many of those games for the Xbox One and PS4, including:

  • Alien Isolation ($11.99)
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity ($11.88)
  • Batman: Arkham Knight ($16.88)
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare ($11.88)
  • Sniper Elite III ($11.88)
  • And many more

So, whether you’re an FPS fan, an RPG nerd or a daredevil ridge-racer, there’s most likely a game for you (or your special someone) on the list. What’s more, Wal-Mart is pretty solid about providing used games in excellent condition while also giving you a pretty good monetary deal in return. The Microsoft Xbox Store – Games, Consoles, Peripherals and Accessories

Looking to grab that special someone one of the best gaming machines on the planet this holiday season? If so, the Microsoft  Xbox store is one the first places you should look.

With deals on everything from some of this year’s hottest Xbox-exclusive games to can’t-beat Xbox One console bundles and limited-time offers on peripherals, this is going to be one sales event you’re not going to want to miss.

Some of the sale’s highlights are:

  • Save up to 50% on Xbox One games
  • Save 33% on Gears of War 4
  • $30 off Turtle Beach 420x Headset
  • $249 Xbox One console
  • And more

Head over to the Microsoft Store now to take advantage of these deals, which end Dec. 31.

The PlayStation Store – Digital Game Downloads

In recent months, Sony’s PlayStation Store has been having some truly insane sales -- many of which have even rivaled (and still rival) Steam deals, and we all know how awesomely ludicrous those can be.

Beginning last week and running through the month of December, the PlayStation Store is currently hosting its yearly Holiday Sale, which means prices are getting slashed on some of the year’s best games -- many of which are Sony exclusives.

Each week brings a brand new set of games and DLC to the price-chopping table. Right now (if you act fast) you’ll have access to deep discounts on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita games like:

  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
  • Dishonored: Definitive Edition
  • Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance
  • Batman: The TellTale Series Season Pass
  • OceanHorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas
  • Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy
  • God of War: Chains of Olympus
  • And many more

Each week of deals expires after the end of the week, starting on Tuesdays. So, for example, this week’s deals will expire on Tuesday, Dec. 13. On that day, a new set of deals will hit the store.

What’s more, the PS Store holiday sale also has some truly great deals on digital movie downloads -- with some of the year’s best and most recent films getting the discount treatment.

Head over to the official PlayStation Store to take advantage of these quickly disappearing deals.

Best Buy – WiiU and Nintendo 3DS Game Deals

For a long time now, Best Buy has consistently had some of the best video game deals and offers when it comes to holiday shopping. Each year, the electronics super giant has some type of can’t-beat BOGO (Buy One Get One) offer, and this year’s now different.

Enter Best Buy’s Buy One, Get One 40% off deal for WiiU and Nintendo 3DS games. That’s right, this deal is valid for two systems. What’s even better? You can mix and match games and still get the deal (we personally tested it out by adding both a WiiU and Nintendo 3DS game to our cart. At checkout, the WiiU game received the 40% discount).

Here’s a list of some of the games currently eligible for the sale:

  • Bayonetta 2
  • Super Mario 3D World
  • Minecraft: WiiU Edition
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker HD
  • Super Mario Maker
  • The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heros
  • Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon
  • And many more

Unfortunately, it appears that Pokemon Sun and Moon are not eligible for this promotion, which, of course, does make business-sense since each launched only a few weeks ago.

However, head over to Best Buy right now and take advantage of these still-awesome deals while you can.

And that’s it. for now. Stay tuned to GameSkinny throughout the holidays as we’ll be updating this list as more deals become available!

Are there other games deals you’ve seen that should be on this list? Which of these will you be taking advantage of? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Sale Price: $119.99

Need a decently sized monitor at a price that won't break the bank? This might be the one for you. It's a 23" HD monitor that packs a full 1080p display.

It's a full-HD 1080p display that has a high-contrast look, anti-glare screen, and Gsync technology to prevent image stuttering and input lag during high-intensity game sequences.

Samsung 24" LED Curved HD Monitor
  • Original Price: $199.99
  • Sale Price: $169.99

A curvaceous, sleek monitor that can add an immersive viewing experience to your gaming desk. This 24" display comes in full 1080p high definition, and includes under-the-hood technology to prevent image stuttering.

The slim design includes a tilting stand so that you can adjust this monitor to your needs, so that curved screen will be in just the right spot while you farm your way through another League of Legends game.

For Console Gamers

For whatever reason, it looks like Best Buy isn't currently planning to offer any console bundle deals -- at least there aren't any listed in its online store ads. But there are plenty of other essential peripherals and great games that will have their prices slashed for Black Friday.

Turtle Beach Ear Force Headset for Xbox One
  • Original Price: $79.99
  • Sale Price: $59.99

Every serious gamer needs a great headset. And this set of cans from Turtle Beach promises to deliver excellent sound for all Xbox One players.

  • Original Price: $99.99
  • Sale Price: $67.99

We can't leave all our PlayStation fans high and dry -- you folks deserve a great audio experience too. And this Afterglow headset promises excellent sound and wireless usage. So you can keep shouting at your SMITE teammates while you get up to grab a snack during your death timer.

This set is built for long-term wear, and it's part of Best Buy's clearance items for the year -- which means you can get an even bigger discount than what's already listed as part of the Black Friday deal.

Samsung 55" Curved LED 4K Smart TV
  • Original Price: $999.99
  • Sale Price: $699.99

Best Buy is making it hard to say no to 4K television when they're putting out deals this good. This Samsung TV comes with a $300 discount to make the (admittedly expensive) move to ultrarealistic HD gaming feel a little less painful on your wallet.

This 55" TV has a 4K LED display, and standard Smart TV capabilities. Its display is curved to create a smoother and more immersive viewing experience.

Samsung 65" LED 4K Smart TV with HDR
  • Original Price: $1,899.99
  • Sale Price: $1,499.99

Maybe you're one of those people who wholeheartedly believes that bigger is always better. If that's the case, then you can scale up your 4K viewing experience even more with this 65" Samsung 4K television.

This Smart TV has a quantum dot display and HDR capabilities that allow for high-contrast, vibrantly detailed graphics at a number of viewing angles. So Battlefield 1 will look just as intense from your bean bag chair as it will from the couch.

Samsung 40" LED 1080p Smart HDTV
  • Original Price: $399.99
  • Sale Price: $279.99

If you don't feel the need to upgrade to 4K just yet, or you're a gamer on a budget like most of us, then you might want to keep things simple with this 40" HDTV that comes with a very agreeable price tag.

Its 1080p display may not completely blow your mind, but getting Smart TV capabilities and a great size display for under $300 is nothing to scoff at.

A Bunch of Awesome Games

Like most retailers, Best Buy is offering a number of its special edition games at a discounted price. Here are all the titles currently listed as part of their Black Friday sale. Prepare For Knightfall With This Batman: Return to Arkham Pre-Order Guide Thu, 14 Jul 2016 07:30:01 -0400 Cody Drain

Remasters and compilations are becoming commonplace on the current generation of consoles. Games like Resident Evil 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are among the many slated for updated releases on the PS4 and Xbox One. And with the upcoming compilation Batman: Return to Arkham, arguably two of the best Batman games -- and superhero games, for that matter -- will be following the trend.

Although WB Games delayed the game past its original release date of July 26th and has yet to announce a new date, the game is still available for pre-order through major retailers. GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon are all promoted on the game's official website, and all three retailers are offering the game for the same price: $49.99.

Better yet, there doesn't appear to be any special editions of the game to worry about (at least not as of now), as every copy of Batman: Return to Arkham includes absolutely complete editions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. This means that Xbox users will get their first opportunity to experience the Joker challenge maps in Arkham Asylum, originally offered first on PS3.

As for console exclusives, a thread on Reddit suggests that, at least before the game's delay, the Xbox Store would offer codes for Batmobile and Batarang avatar props as a digital pre-order bonus. As of this writing, the game is not yet listed on the PlayStation Network -- nor are any extras.

At the moment, it's just a matter of personal preference when it comes to where or how interested fans should pre-order Batman: Return to Arkham. The price is consistent across the board, both for physical and digital copies, and no one source is offering any interesting tie-ins at the moment. Hopefully for Batman fans, the game's release date is announced soon.

Zelda Has Taken Over Best Buy! Tue, 14 Jun 2016 04:29:10 -0400 Austin Katz

E3 is now is full swing! New games and expansions are being announced every day. To reflect the hype of E3, Best Buy changed their front page to add artwork from the upcoming Nintendo game, Zelda U. Here was can see Link, in his outfit from the trailers, aiming his new type of arrows at the audience.

This artwork was not the only released prior to Nintendo’s conference. Amazon leaked artwork of Link scaling a mountain, which strongly hints at the type of gameplay that Zelda U will have. The image on Best Buy’s website, sadly is art we have seen before.

This has not been the first collaboration between Best Buy and Nintendo during E3. In years past, Nintendo has partnered up with Best Buy to make E3 more accessible to the fans by offering demos and competitions in various Best Buy stores across North America. It is possible that Best Buy is hinting that they will offer demos of Zelda U in their stores, since the only way to play Zelda U is at Nintendo World and the conference itself. We will have to find out during the press release!

Street Fighter V gets a new brand as a PS4 Exclusive and DLC details revealed Wed, 13 Jan 2016 06:09:50 -0500 Douglas A. Skinner

The latest entry in the Street Fighter series developed by Capcom, Street Fighter V, will be one of the first games to have PlayStation's new type of branding. On the Best Buy website you can see the latest cover of Street Fighter V for PS4 that shows this new brand. Nothing we have not seen before but it shows how much Sony is pushing that fact that it is a console exclusive.

After its initial release, six DLC characters will be released throughout this year. The six characters have been revealed to be Alex, Balrog, Guile, Ibuki, Juri, and Urien. Like other characters of the series these characters will not play the same like previous games.

Sagat, a classic street fighter character appearing as the final boss of the original Street Fighter, will not be appearing at launch or as a DLC this year for that matter. In an interview with Famitsu, Yoshinori Ono revealed why:

“It’s because there are many characters that perform similarly. For this launch and its next update, we wanted to have a good balance of characters. Since we didn’t want to just blindly increase the number of characters, it was a bitter decision that had to be made.”

Hachima and Siliconera were kind enough to translate it for us.

However, that does not mean that Sagat or Blanka will never appear in the title since Ono ensures that there is a possibility for more characters later on.

Street Fighter V will be available on February 16th of this year on PC and PS4 for $59.99.

The Season Pass is also available for purchase for $29.99 and will include all six additional characters, each with a premium costume and an exclusive PS4 Theme. Purchase the Season Pass before the release of Street Fighter V and you will receive three PS4 avatars (Ryu, Chun-Li, and M. Bison) for free!

Fallout 4 available for free with PS4 Bundle at Best Buy and GameStop Mon, 09 Nov 2015 08:05:42 -0500 Samantha Wright

If you haven't already heard, Microsoft is offering an Xbox One Bundle for Fallout 4 that gives you Fallout 3 and all the Fallout 4 PC mods for free. While that's a really good deal, Sony is giving Microsoft a run for its money; Best Buy and GameStop are offering Fallout 4 free with certain PS4 Bundles.

At Best Buy, the 500 GB Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Bundle for $349.99 currently comes with the free copy of Fallout 4 along with a free charging station. If Uncharted isn't really your game, the 500 GB Destiny: The Taken King Limited Edition Bundle for $399.99 offers the same bargain.

GameStop has a similar bundle as well: pick up the 500 GB Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Bundle for $349.99 from them and you'll also receive a free copy of Fallout 4.

But if console bundles just don't appeal to you, Target has another good deal that could help you net Fallout 4 at a discount. Target is currently running a buy 2, get 1 free promotion on hundreds of video game titles. Some of the many games included in the deal are Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, NBA 2k16, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Halo 5: Guardians. However, according to Target's advertisement for the promotion, Fallout 4 will also be included within the sale.

If you wish to gain more information about any of these bundles, check out their pages at Best Buy and GameStop. If you wish to know more about the buy 2, get 1 free promotion, check out Target and look at all the games they have available through the sale.

What do you think of these deals? Are you interested in partaking in any of them to get your hands on a copy of Fallout 4? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!

Pre-Order Xenoblade Chronicles X, get a free pizza voucher Tue, 03 Nov 2015 10:30:15 -0500 Daniel R. Miller

Are you sick of seeing timed exclusivity and emotes being the pinnacle of pre-order bonuses these days? I know I am, and I'd like to see some company or retail outlet get creative in what they reward customers with for committing to a purchase. Enter Best Buy.

According to a recent PR News release on their website, Best Buy is offering players a $10 pizza voucher as a reward for pre-ordering the upcoming JRPG epic, Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Unfortunately, as is to be expected, there are a few limitations.

  • First of all, you must pre-order the game by December 3rd, which isn't unreasonable considering that the game officially launches the next day on December 4th.
  • You must complete your Pre-order purchase by December 10th, which is also nice as it gives you about a week to decide whether or not you want to keep the game.
  • The Collector's Edition is excluded from this promotion.
  • You are given a code for the voucher that must be entered on by January 14, 2016. After doing so, you are given a virtual pre-paid Mastercard that can be used wherever MasterCard is accepted, but only for purchasing pizza.
  • The voucher must be redeemed by January 31, 2016.

Quick Take: This is an interesting idea, but as you start to read the fine print, it gradually feels more and more restrictive. This isn't necessarily a shock, it's simply the way most free pre-paid card terms work. In the grand scheme of things, I think this is a much more attractive offer than an emote I'll never use or advance access to DLC I'll get to play in a week. Besides, nothing beats a belly full of pizza.

Fallout 4: Gold Edition comes with the best socks ever Wed, 21 Oct 2015 10:35:01 -0400 Daniel R. Miller

For those who have already pre-ordered Fallout 4, prepare to be jealous. Best Buy is now offering something called Fallout 4: Gold Edition which is a package that includes the full game, the season pass and some super awesome Vault Boy socks all for $85.

If socks aren't your thing, then it's worth noting that the bundle nets you a $5 discount between the main game ($60) and the season pass ($30). Unfortunately, the Gold Edition is only being offered for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, so PC players will, unfortunately, be unable to get in on the deal.

Bethesda appears to be ramping up their already stellar efforts to advertise Fallout 4 by recently kicking off The Great War sale on the Bethesda Store website, unveiling loads of new gear at discount prices. They've also released an amazing live action trailer as well as a series of mini videos detailing the leveling mechanics of S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

Fallout 4 will release on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 10, 2015.

Quick Take: The socks are sweet looking, but one of the problems you could argue with the Gold Edition package is that it forces the consumer to invest in the game's Season Pass. Season Passes are already a somewhat controversial practice to those in the gaming population, but it doesn't seem to stop people from buying it. Fortunately, Bethesda has a long standing reputation of delivering the goods on their biggest projects, and Fallout 4 is looking like it will continue that trend.

On October 13th, 2015, Best Buy in conjunction with Nintendo will be offering an exclusive pre-order for the new Falco amiibo.

The Falco amiibo is based on the character Falco from the popular Star Fox franchise. This amiibo is compatible with many of the amiibo-enabled games on the Wii U and 3DS systems, including Super Smash Bros., Super Mario Maker, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

More information on Nintendo's Amiibo system can be found at Nintendo's Amiibo site.

Unleash the force with these Star Wars themed headsets from Turtle Beach Fri, 28 Aug 2015 06:18:16 -0400 mrivera269

It's an exciting time for Star Wars fans - the galaxy far far away will be releasing a plethora of content and gear in the coming months, all topped off with a brand new movie. But who cares about the movie? Star Wars: Battlefront is what you're excited for. The game will be a reboot to the popular PlayStation 2 and original Xbox titles.

As with every big game release, be ready for amazing bundles and console skins that will make you look at your plain old black PS4 in disgust. (Yeah I'm talking about you, Taken King console.) Anyways, we also get cool gaming gear, like this gem from the likes of Turtle Beach. May I introduce to you the SandTrooper Headset.

This headset comes in two versions: one with a Stormtrooper helmet on it, and the other with a special Star Wars: Battlefront logo.

These wired stereo headsets will be compatible with Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices (for when you want to go hardcore on Angry Birds.) The headsets have a 3.5mm connection and are priced at $99.99. They will be Best Buy exclusives, but you'll also be able to buy them from the Turtle Beach's official website.

The headsets will be available on November 1st, giving you enough time to break them in before the release of the game.

How To Order Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition Tue, 23 Jun 2015 18:19:49 -0400 Ryan Mayle

It can sometimes be difficult to pre-order a game to lock yourself in a copy before its release. The biggest example of this right now is with the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition. The newest iteration of the Fallout franchise has shown to be huge from their E3 conference and the contents of their limited edition is even bigger. You get things like a small pocket guide, poster, and collectable metal packaging. However, it really is the Pip-Boy replica that is the star of the package. People of all walks of life are trying to get a pre-order of Fallout 4 just for that.

If you are looking to pre-order a copy you are in luck! Multiple retailers have been allowing more customers to pre-order the game since it was initially announced. However, finding pre-orders in stock is difficult and it doesn't seem practical to be checking every retailer day in and day out to see if more pre-orders are available. This is why I recommend signing up for NowInStock account.

What this website does is constantly check the stocks for items at retailers automatically 24/7. For example if you create an account and set an alert for Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition, you will get an email to notify you as soon as the website sees that they are accepting more pre-orders. This website can be used for other things too, but this is definitely a huge change to grab yourself a Fallout 4 pre-order.

Nintendo announces US locations and games for Nintendo World Championship 2015 Qualifiers Wed, 20 May 2015 11:39:18 -0400 WesleyG

After Nintendo's nostalgia-filled video announcing their plans for E3, many were left wondering about what game Nintendo would use and where the qualifiers would be. After a week of silence, Nintendo has officially announced the details for the qualifiers.

The game selected is, no surprise, the Championship mode in Ultimate NES Remix on the Nintendo 3DS. It's an easy choice since the mode emulates the structure of the original 1990 Nintendo World Championships. The mode gives players 6 minutes and 21 seconds to complete three challenges. These challenges include collecting 50 coins in Super Mario Bros., then collecting 25 coins in Super Mario Bros. 3, then using any time they have left to get as high of a score as possible in Dr. Mario.

Nintendo also announced the Best Buy locations that will be used for the Nintendo World Championship qualifiers. The eight locations are:

1717 Harrison St.
San Francisco, CA

3675 Pacific Coast Highway
Torrance, CA

10760 NW 17th St.
Miami, FL

900 E. Golf Road
Schaumburg, IL

12905 Elm Creek Blvd. N
Maple Grove, MN

5001 Northern Blvd.
Long Island City, NY

9378 N. Central Expressway
Dallas, TX

2214 S. 48th St.
Tacoma, WA

The locations will be hosting the NWC qualifiers between 10 AM and 7 PM local time.

If you want to take a shot at qualifying for the Nintendo World Championships, make sure to get to your preferred location early since only the first 750 contestants with a properly filled out entry form will get a chance. The player with the highest score from each location will go on to the Championship round in Los Angeles on June 14th, two days before the official start of E3.

StreetPass is Going Big Until April 26: Tons of New Nintendo Zones and Mii Plaza Updates Wed, 22 Apr 2015 06:02:44 -0400 Thomas M Gumbel

Weee, it’s the first International StreetPass Week (or Weekend) since last Halloween!  Until April 26, you can StreetPass up to six Miis at a time from around the world when you stop by a Nintendo Zone location, including “special Mii characters” like Satoru Shibata or Reggie Fils-Aime in gold pants!

What’s a Nintendo Zone?  Glad you asked, kids!  Any Best Buy, major airport that uses Boingo Wireless, AT&T Wireless hotspot, or Nintendo World store, plus some other megachains like Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, or McDonald’s. Try a few different places and check your StreetPassing every so often; Nintendo Zones tend to sort of blink in and out of existence.

Along with International StreetPass Week, Mii Plaza is getting a major update and we’re seeing two new StreetPass games – Ultimate Angler and Battleground Z.  In Ultimate Angler, each Mii gives you another kind of bait to catch 150 kinds of fish (no, you’re not using your friends as bait; that’s Mii cruelty). In Battleground Z, fight hordes of zombies with items based on your Mii friends’ hobbies.  Now go outside and meet (digital) people!

Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked Membership Now $30 Thu, 05 Mar 2015 12:23:50 -0500 Nick Boisson

With gamers always looking for the best deal before buying a new game, retail giant Best Buy is doing a little something its gaming clients.

Beginning March 8, the My Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked membership price will drop from $99.99 to $30, Best Buy announced today.

For your $30, you get a two-year membership to Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked, which includes:

  • 20 percent off new physical video game software
  • 10 percent bonus trade-in credit on video game software
  • 10 percent off pre-owned video game software
  • 2x My Best Buy points for every dollar spent on new video game software, digital gaming and game accessories
  • 2 My Best Buy points for every dollar of video game software traded in
  • Special one-time-use welcome coupons
  • 20 percent off Nintendo amiibos
  • Exclusive offers

With 20% off new games, your membership pays for itself upon purchasing just three new games.

For comparison, GameStop's PowerUp Rewards is $14.99 for a year also gives you 10% off all used games and a 10% bonus for trade-ins along with a one-year subscription to Game Informer magazine, but doesn't include a 20% discount on new games like Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked.

Reason for the price drop, you ask? Best Buy Southwest US media relations lead, Shane Kitzman, says:

Why the great deal? Gamers are among Best Buy’s most dedicated customers and while Gamers Club Unlocked was already popular and well-regarded in the gaming community, we wanted it to be even more accessible.

With all the games coming out this year, this might not be a terrible bonus for those planning on buying more than three new games in the next two years.

Meta Knight Amiibo Set for Feb. 20th Release Sat, 14 Feb 2015 10:33:13 -0500 TumsST

If you haven't figured out by now, Amiibo hunting is the newest thing that's sweeping the nation. The way Amiibo hunting is going, it could be part of next Olympics. Best Buy has announced that Meta Knight will be available on February 20th for the usual Amiibo price of $13. People who don't have a preorder in place could be out of luck on this one, seeing how difficult the other store-exclusive Amiibo have been to get without a preorder in place.

Best Buy has been emailing purchasers with the details of when Kirby's rival from Dream Land will be released. However, Best Buy has taken some heat for cancelling New 3DS preorders because they don't have the stock. So if you're expecting a Meta Knight, I would be there right as Best Buy opens on release day, just to make sure you actually get one. It would appear that Best Buy had been dragging their feet on announcing a release date for their exclusive Amiibo, and it will be interesting to see if there is any non-preorder stock available.

What Happened to All the Game Shops: Digital Purchases and Convenience Thu, 04 Dec 2014 19:40:08 -0500 Jay Prodigious

Video game stores are the Holy Grail of retail stores. Bringing in tons of hardware and software sales because of the high interest and large fan base. Gamers found a place to meet, hang out, and indulge in game-related conversations for hours on end.

A game store builds community, fosters good will with other gamers, and serves as a way to grow enthusiast collections by providing new and used games to take home and enjoy.

At least this used to be the case, before the advent of the current internet sales environment. The rise of sites like Amazon,, and direct developer purchases have made it difficult to attract gamers to leave the comfort of their home. Why would they leave when they can just have their product to come directly to their door?

Digital Distribution

Another detrimental factor in the game shops is direct digital downloads. This began eliminating those who are not collectors, those who love filling up the spaces on their shelves, and lowers the demographics that are left to swarm into the store.

The drastic trends in recent sales shifts is worth noting: in 2012, sales of physical game discs declined 22%, as consumers migrated to digital content. This was a sharper drop than from 2010 to 2011 which was a 9% fall. 2012's total spending on physical games totaled at  $8.48 Billion which pales in comparison to 2010's $10.05 Billion. Game sales have steadily shifted away from physical and gamers can be seen gravitating more towards digital by looking at the decline. Last year showed us that as of 2014, physical sales were lower than they were in 2002 at $6.32 Billion.

Below is a graph that illustrates the data I've mentioned above. Statista gathers market research from many sources and the graph below details physical game sale leading back to 1996 to 2013; it's enough to show the declining trend I mentioned.

Statistic: Physical retail sales of computer and video games in the United States from 1996 to 2013 (in billion U.S. dollars) | Statista

The game shop scene has been steadily decreasing over the years since digital downloads become popular. This is evident when you walk into your favorite retailer.

Personal Story

I recently walked into my local Best Buy that used to have an entire section stocked with physical games, accessories, and consoles. Now this section has been greatly diminished over time, taking up only one quarter of what it used to be. Limited new selection of games, an abundance of used games of titles that no one truly desires (such as sports title from 2 years ago), and digital download cards for points or DLC.

It's a sad display, but it is the future we seem to be heading towards. Stores local to me, one in particular, Entertainmart, had two large building dedicated to their stock. One building was full of tv shows, movies, and music while the second building was fully stocked with new and used games and gaming hardware. I went back 2 years ago and the second building with the games was closed down and the gaming stock was consolidated to the bare minimum. It has been an unmistakable pattern in game shops these days.

The only store really thriving in the game shop environment just so happens to be GameStop, which also has its online store in tow. The physical copies have declined but we can be certain it has survived this long. Though some of their stores don't feel like that friendly, gamer community that it used to be. Sales have become the main focus, with warranties, disc replacement plans, strategy guides, credit cards, etc.

We've lost the feeling of joy and brotherhood that games shops brought us.

A solution isn't clear, as repairing an ever changing process is difficult. Though we ca n hope that someone out there will bring back the original concept. Walls of games, people coming in to engage in spirited conversations and not be ignored by sales pitches. To come together over the joy that we get from games.

Sounds like a coffee shop for gamers to some degree. I know it sounds farfetched but we should be able to go back to that joy we had when walking in to get or check out the latest games.

Best Buy Cancels Destiny Pre-Orders for Limited, Ghost Editions Fri, 08 Aug 2014 09:22:01 -0400 Christine Messere

Best Buy has joined Walmart in cancelling all pre-orders of the Destiny Limited and Ghost Editions.

Destiny has three special editions, the Digital Guardian Edition, Limited Edition and the Ghost Edition.  The Digital Guardian Edition is the cheapest of the the three and only available online.

Both the Limited and the Ghost editions offer guidebooks, postcards, and star charts.  The Ghost edition goes a bit further by offering a plastic, speaking Ghost replica, other "replicas," and a letter of introduction.

Since the demand has far exceeded the production, Walmart emailed their unlucky customers with an offer of the Limited edition plus a $50 refund in lieu of the Ghost edition.  As of yet, no such offer has been put forth by Best Buy.

Check out the trailer below, which showcases all three editions.  All three will be released in September, subject to availability of course, on PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
