Ever since the release of several teaser trailers in 2008 and 2009, fans of Ubisoft's Beyond Good and Evil have been waiting for any news relating to the game's sequel. It was recently revealed that a new game in the series was in pre-production, and the project was being helmed by Michael Ancel. However, it turns out that this game will not be a sequel, but rather, a semi-reboot.

While long-time fans of the game may criticize Ubisoft for not making a direct continuation -- especially since the original game ended on a cliffhanger -- the truth of the matter is that Beyond Good and Evil came out in 2003, 13 years ago. By modernizing and fleshing out the original title, new life could be breathed into the franchise. And if it sells well, we will continue to see more of series' protagonists Jade and Pey'j.

Regarding the desire for resolution on the game's cliffhanger, reports say that in addition to retelling the first game's story and exploring Pey'j's back story, this game will grant closure to the plot of the first Beyond Good and Evil. A different source has revealed that a CG teaser trailer similar to the one released in 2008 will be shown alongside the reveal of the Nintendo NX.

Currently, the game is set to come out in the Summer of 2018, and it will be exclusive to the NX.

What do you think about this design decision and the NX-exclusive plan? Be sure to let me know in the comments what your thoughts are, and what direction you hope the series goes from here.

5 Games That Are MIA Wed, 26 Mar 2014 09:33:06 -0400 Death Metal Hero

5.) The Last Guardian

First announced in 2009, this action-adventure game has been in development by Team Ico since 2007. Originally planned for release back in 2011 on the PS3, The Last Guardian has suffered from countless delays and setbacks--including director Fumito Ueda leaving Sony, although he still remains as a consultant on the game. As of 2014, The Last Guardian is still in development and still has no release date.

4.) Prey 2

Announced back in 2011, this first-person shooter was originally being developed by Human Head Studios, but has been completely scrapped and is starting fresh with Arkane Studios.

We don't know a lot: There is a new protagonist named Killian Samuels, who is a U.S Marshall, Domasi "Tommy" Tawodi, the protagonist in the first Prey will make an appearance; the plot centers around Killian's lost memory.

3.) Furious 4

Announced back in 2011, Furious 4 is being developed by Gearbox Software and published by Ubisoft. Since its announcement, this first-person shooter has distanced itself from the Brothers In Arms franchise and is going to be its own IP.

Originally scheduled for release in 2012, Furious 4 has since been pushed to 2015 and is undergoing drastic changes. In 2013, Senior FX artist Nick Peterson released a demo reel that apparently had some gameplay footage from Furious 4.

2.) Beyond Good And Evil 2

Announced back in May of 2008, Beyond Good And Evil 2 is a third-person adventure game that is being published and developed by Ubisoft. Ubisoft revealed that this game is being developed by a small team to preserve its artistic spirit, although in 2011 the team took a break to make Rayman Origins.

As of mid-2012, Ubisoft confirmed that Beyond Good And Evil 2 is in an active development stage, specifically for next-gen consoles. Beyond Good And Evil was originally intended to be a trilogy. But since the first game came out back in 2003 and 11 years later we still don't have a part two, things are looking pretty sketchy.

1.) Devil's Third

Announced back in 2010, Devil's Third is a third-person shooter that is being developed by Valhalla Game Studios. The game was originally going to be published by THQ, but we all know what happened to that company.

Devil's Third was forced to switch engines during development because the company they licensed the engine from went out of business. Now equipped with the Phoenix Engine--which was used in Darksiders 2--Devil's Third is apparently still on track for a release this year; let's sure hope so!
