The anxiously awaited third game of the Dreamcast cult-classic series, Shenmue 3, is to be showcased by producer Yu Suzuki at upcoming Monaco's Anime Game International Conference, or MAGIC, this February. The conference is to be held at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum and Suzuki himself will be revealing further details about the game and perhaps even offer live footage since the game is well under development.

The original Shenmue was released in 1999, with the sequel following closely in 2001, developed by Sega AM2 and published by Sega. While the game gained quite a following, it was considered the most expensive video game developed at the time at a whopping USD 70 million and turned out to be a commercial failure. Thereafter, Sega was reluctant to give way for Shenmue 3's creation.

Suzuki then launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the third game, which successfully raised enough and became the sixth highest funded game in Kickstarter history.

Shenmue 3 will be published by Deep Silver and is to be released in the latter half of the year, although a solid date has not been set. Developers are positive that the game will deliver to the fanbase, with an improved story-line and gameplay.

Layoffs Affect Saints Row Developer Volition Wed, 27 Sep 2017 14:12:28 -0400 Luke Luby

Volition, the developers behind the Saints Row and Red Faction series, have reportedly laid off about 30 members of the studio over the past week. Although the company recently released Agents of Mayhem, a spinoff of the Saints Row franchise, neither of their main franchises have released a proper full-length game in several years, with no known releases in either currently set.

Despite the recent release of the game, Agents Of Mayhem, has not been performing well since release. The game was the first major title released by the developer since Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell

As of this writing, neither Volition nor Koch Media has released a statement in regards to the reported layoffs.

Around the same time that Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell was released in 2015, publisher THQ - which owned Volition at the time - went into bankruptcy, with Volition and all of the developer's IPs being sold off to Koch Media/DeepSilver.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news about Volition, Deep Silver, and Agents of Mayhem as it develops.
