Props have to be given to this adventure for putting a Forgotten Realms twist on a classic story. While part of a caravan in the deserts of Zakhara, the party comes across three camel-riding sages looking for a new king to be born during a planar convergence marked by celestial signs. If you've ever wanted to run a Christmas adventure where you battle planar monstrosities and wrestle with mummies, then get on downloading already!

This killer fan-made module was crafted for ENWorld’s D&D Next adventure contest a few years back. The idea was to incorporate as many different concepts from the 5th Edition rules as possible into a fun and playable module, and it succeeds to an astounding degree.

There's a lot of fun for both the players and the DM when entering areas affected by the mind fog, where characters can be possessed by entirely new personalities!

An introduction to the 5th Edition mega-adventure Storm King's Thunder, free module A Great Upheaval introduces players to 5th Edition and gets you in the proper giant-fighting mood if you want to move onto the main campaign.

Does anybody still play 4th Edition anymore? Well, if you do, there are free adventures out there, and some of them are straight form Wizards of the Coast, so you can expect fairly high quality. This one takes place in the Eberron setting, and while it does railroad the party pretty hard, it has a great mix of combat and trap encounters that work well within the 4th Edition framework.

A Question of Ethics

  • \n
\n

Once upon a time, Wizards of the Coast had a big list of free adventures by professional game designers that, sadly, was nixed as the company went through some big changes switching to 4th and then eventually 5th edition.

\n

Thankfully, the Internet never forgets, though, and the Wayback Machine still has snapshots of that page where many of the download links still actually work! The full list can be found here.

\n

One of my personal favorites from that list was A Question of Ethics by Monte Cook, in which the party discovers a group of adventurers planning on unleashing a plague on a nearby tribe of stone giants.

\n

The group has to grapple with some moral choices and then decide whether to side with the giants, who might be a threat in the future, or the adventurers, who are committing a war crime against giants who have done nothing wrong ... yet.

Although quite short at only 16 pages, this is a killer adventure for a new group of gamers just getting used to the Golarion setting, and it works incredibly well as a prelude to Crown of the Kobold King if you want to keep going with other Paizo adventures set in the Darkmoon Vale area.

There's a very good reason this series is so well-regarded and why Paizo is so obsessed with these evil little buggers.

\n

Sadly, they would take a bit of a dive on the quality and fun in future installments (fingers crossed the impending fifth entry rectifies that problem), but We Be Goblins Too! is still a strong entry in this franchise of free mini-adventures.

\n

While the first entry had bungling goblins searching for dangerous fireworks, this one has a new group of cannon fodder going through extremely deadly trials in an attempt to join a new tribe when their home is wiped out.

We Be Goblins

  • \n
\n

We're now up to the fifth entry in this ongoing series of beloved Free RPG Day modules from Paizo, but the original still stands head and shoulders above the competition (which isn't hard, since they're goblins).

\n

This is the famous free Pathfinder adventure that kicked off the craze of playing maniacal, homicidal, lyrical, pyromaniac goblins. Seven years later, fans of the system love the concept so much that goblin is now going to be a base racial option in the impending Pathfinder 2nd Edition.

\n

Very much a tongue-in-cheek affair, We Be Goblins is a lot more fun if you play it for full silliness effect like a game of Paranoia, where a new goblin appears to replace an old one as soon as a player's character dies -- and they will die, a lot. Fireworks mishaps, stomping horses, angry tribal chiefs, wilderness dangers ... when you are three feet tall, carrying highly flammable material, and have a total lack of impulse control, then doom is always just around the corner.

\n

There are pregenerated characters to use, but don't neglect having your players come up with their own goblin rhymes that use their character names! That should be the biggest part of character creation to really get your group into the murderous goblin nonsense.

There's a certain subset of tabletop gamers who will try to argue that Fiasco isn't actually an RPG. Those people are flat-out wrong. If everyone takes on the role of a character, describes what those characters are doing while trying to get to an outcome, and dice are rolled, then it's unquestionably an RPG.

\n

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, there are plenty of free playsets available online to get new Fiasco games going that fully channel the darkly comedic feel of the Coen brothers. Saturday Night '78 is one such playset in the era of Studio 54 and the Son of Sam killings.

If you haven't gotten into full metal fantasy just yet, do yourself a favor and pick up that Iron Kingdoms core rule book (or the Unleashed spin-off that focuses on monstrous races). The production values are off the charts on this one, and the Steamjacks-meet-magic world is a thing of absolute beauty.

To get started in this unique world, Fools Rush In has the characters engage in a heist to get back an object of blackmail, culminating with a crazy waterfront brawl.

The Suns of Fortune source book from Fantasy Flight Games covers the Corellian Sector of Star Wars lore and features nine different modular encounters meant to be quickly dropped into a campaign.

One of those modular encounters, Taming the Dragon, was released for free to the public as a PDF and throws your group of rebel scum into an underground illegal swoop race.

For some quick, high-octane fun with all sorts of unexpected dangers, you can't go wrong by throwing this encounter into your Star Wars roleplaying session.

You can always count on Lamentations of the Flame Princess to go a direction that you weren't expecting -- and probably tick off a whole bunch of people along the way.

\n

In 2017 they released a free hardcover book of new spells called Vaginas Are Magic. This year's Free RPG Day offering is titled James Edward Raggi IV's Eldritch Cock. Needless to say, this weird dark fantasy/horror mashup is on the NSFW side.

\n

Better Than Any Man was a free adventure released in 2013 meant to introduce people to LotFP's blend of old-school fantasy with Cthulhoid monstrosities, and it's really incredibly well done for something that doesn't cost a penny.

\n

Set in the Holy Roman Empire during the Thirty Years' War, this massive 180-page (!!) adventure is incredibly fleshed out and features a sandbox style that lets the PCs do what they want ... so long as they get it done before the invading army arrives and kills everyone.

\n

After a bunch of retailers and more traditional roleplayers got angry and accused the module of being about killing kids, the Lamentations of the Flame Princess publisher decided to thumb their nose at the naysayers and make a module that's *actually* all about killing kids.

\n

The Doom-Cave of the Crystal-Headed Children is essentially Skyrim with the "kids can die" mod on steroids. If that sounds like something your group would have a good time with, you can grab the PDF of that amusingly offensive adventure for free over here.

Much like We Be Goblins, this super fun adventure has the group playing tiny anti-heroes, but it goes in a very different direction than Paizo's hallowed entry. This one is a good deal more brutal and has far more crazy options, like fungus-powered mutant psionic goblins.

\n

This one is also much, much more in-depth, with more than 100 pages on goblin tribes, deities, and adventure seeds. I recommend trying out both Saga of the Goblin Horde and We Be Goblins to see which one is more well received at your gaming table.

Between all those $60 hardcover books, extra Kickstarter add-ons, and crazy dice options, tabletop roleplaying can be a fairly expensive hobby.

\n

If you aren't crazy about laying down even more cash for adventure modules and are looking for inspiration to kick off a new campaign, there are plenty of completely free PDF adventures out there for just about every system imaginable.

\n

While Free RPG Day features a yearly supply of quality modules and source books, that is by no means the only source for no-cost RPG adventure downloads.

\n

Here we're rounding up some of the best zero-dollar digital modules currently available for Savage Worlds, GURPS, Dark Heresy, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, Edge of the Empire, Dungeon Crawl Classics, and even more systems.

You may notice a curious lack of Paizo, TSR, and Wizards Of The Coast here. That's because we're going to feature a separate list of entirely free Pathfinder/D&D modules shortly -- so stay tuned!

January 2018's Free PS Plus Games Announced https://www.gameskinny.com/uzvvv/january-2018s-free-ps-plus-games-announced https://www.gameskinny.com/uzvvv/january-2018s-free-ps-plus-games-announced Wed, 27 Dec 2017 20:56:25 -0500 bluedeviledegg

Christmas may be over, but Sony's got a few more gifts under the cyber-tree to help you rock in the new year. January's free PlayStation Plus lineup is one of the best we've seen in a while, and we can't think of a better hangover cure than free, quality games.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

One of our top games of 2016, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the latest installment in the acclaimed cyberpunk Deus Ex series. Featured Contributor Ty Arthur believes that this version of Adam Jensen's dystopian adventure is "among the best the series has to offer," scoring it a solid 9 out of 10 augmentations.

Batman: The Telltale Series

The Dark Knight gets the Telltale treatment in this five-part point-and-click adventure. You'll reckon with the likes of Catwoman, The Penguin, and Two-Face all over again in Batman: The Telltale Series. Only this time, you'll do it in that signature Telltale fashion. Batman never looked so stylish.

StarBlood Arena (VR)

What's that you say? You've got a shiny, new PSVR headset, and you're dying for some intense arena combat? Sony's got your virtual back with StarBlood Arena. You'll blast other ships out of the galaxy in multiplayer mayhem -- that is, if you don't get obliterated first.

What do you think about January's free PS Plus games? Do these satisfy that AAA itch so many of you have been talking about? Let us know in the comments below!

StarCraft and Starcraft: Brood War are Free with Latest Patch https://www.gameskinny.com/bd008/starcraft-and-starcraft-brood-war-are-free-with-latest-patch https://www.gameskinny.com/bd008/starcraft-and-starcraft-brood-war-are-free-with-latest-patch Wed, 19 Apr 2017 04:21:31 -0400 ThatGamersAsylum

Earlier today Blizzard released patch notes for StarCraft: Brood WarIn this press release there were several small additions and bug fixes. A few of the more notable additions are:

  1. Support for Windowed mode and Fullscreen Windowed mode were added.
  2. An Actions Per Minute display option was added.
  3. Multiplayer was made more responsive.
  4. Popular Maps was added to assist in finding, well, popular maps (and game types).
  5. An observer mode was added.
  6. Replays will now autosave.

With the addition of an Actions Per Minute counter, an observer mode, and auto saving for replays it seems as if the developers sought to add in quality of life features that helped assist hardcore players' training.

There was also a small tidbit thrown in there: StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War are now free via battle.net. So developers are now apparently nonchalantly dropping the prices of their classic games to free while continuing to patch them like they are Beyonce or something.

If you have never played these classic games, then you can follow the links on the official StarCraft website to download it for Mac or PC.

Mass Effect 2 Is Now Free and How to Get It https://www.gameskinny.com/o8cjg/mass-effect-2-is-now-free-and-how-to-get-it https://www.gameskinny.com/o8cjg/mass-effect-2-is-now-free-and-how-to-get-it Fri, 06 Jan 2017 00:54:09 -0500 Henri Herrera

Mass Effect 2 is now completely free for users of Origin in it's Standard version -- that's without the DLCs, "Arrival" and "Lair of the Shadow Broker" as well as missing some weapons and armors among other content.

Mass Effect 2 is the second games of the trilogy developed by BioWare. Released for PC and Xbox 360 on January 26th 2010, and for PlayStation 3 on January 18th 2011. In the game we assume the role of Commander Shepard in the galaxy of the 22th Century, where humanity is threatened by species known as the Collectors. Our goal is to gain the trust of a diverse team in order defeat an enemy in a suicide mission. The player can affect the story of the game in numerous ways through dialogue, and other actions.

BioWare originally announced Mass Effect 2 would be part of the December gifts, but after five days the game was pulled due to an apparent mistake on BioWare's part and returned to the original price. Now there is another chance of downloading it for free.

To get Mass Effect 2 for free you need to register or already have an Origin account, then simply head over the the games store page and hit download. It will be available only for a limited time, so hurry up and get it before it's over.

After a Year's Worth of Free Games... Was PS Plus Worth It? https://www.gameskinny.com/zaxlh/after-a-years-worth-of-free-games-was-ps-plus-worth-it https://www.gameskinny.com/zaxlh/after-a-years-worth-of-free-games-was-ps-plus-worth-it Tue, 20 Dec 2016 07:00:01 -0500 Caio Sampaio

PlayStation Plus allows its users to receive automatic game updates, uploads/downloads of saved games from the cloud and discounts of up to 75% off on the PlayStation store. The most important aspect of the membership; however, is that it comes with free games.

Players receive six free titles each month with no charge, but these games vary in regards to genre and quality. With this said, as 2016 ends, we look back at the productions Sony gave away to those who paid $59.99 for the 12 month subscription and answer a question.

Was PS Plus worth it?

A carefully designed service:

Above we see the average score on Metacritic of the six games given away each month.

The first conclusion we can trace by analyzing the data provided above is that Sony puts a lot of thought into choosing the games it distributes for free. We can make this statement by looking at the average metascore of each month.

The highest month was June, with a score of 79.8/100, with the lowest period being May with 70.3. This displays an oscillation of only 9.5 points in the average metascore from the lowest month, to the highest.

This shows that the service Sony offers, through its PlayStation Plus membership, is consistent, as the quality of the games offered does not vary significantly as a whole throughout the year.

This consistency allows subscribers to know what the future holds and this certainty is one the most important factors in any long-term subscription and Sony got this covered.

Keeping an eye on other systems:

In order to judge whether PlayStation Plus was worth it in 2016, we cannot ignore the fact that each month, two games were distributed for the PlayStation 3 console and a pair of others for the Vita handheld device, meaning that in order to use PlayStation Plus to its fullest, you must own these three systems.

If you sold your PlayStation 3, in order to buy the fourth generation of the console and do not own a Vita, purchasing a subscription of PlayStation Plus may sound as a bad deal, but that may not be the case.

It is all about cost/benefit:

The biggest mistake people make when signing up for PlayStation Plus is believing they will get to play the best AAA titles for free. This is not the case most of the times, but this is not something negative.

During 2016, PS Plus offered a myriad of indie games across the three systems, which you probably would not even play if Sony had not given them away.

It is normal to be concerned about the quality of a product given for "free", but some of these hidden jewels even had similar metascores to AAA titles, around the 70-80 range. They can provide you with quality entertainment, if you give them a chance.

That is not to say, however, that you must enjoy every production from PlayStation Plus, but considering that the yearly subscription costs $59 and you get 72 games for free throughout the year, even if you only play 6 of these games, that would mean you paid approximately 10 dollars per game.

Given the numbers, it makes financial sense to subscribe to PlayStation Plus, as it gives a positive cost/benefit ratio, as long as the player is willing to explore the unknown titles that come with the subscription.

Expecting to only play the top AAA games for free via PS Plus is not a realistic scenario and it is one that will lead to the frustration of the user, but if you keep your expectation in check and know what you are signing up for, this service will be worth it down the road.

Conclusion:

In 2016, PlayStation Plus offered to players a stable service, giving away games of similar quality each month, thus ensuring players could trust the service.

Despite offering more indie games than AAA titles, many independent productions received similar acclaim from critics, as seen in their metascores.

Moreover, getting 72 games for $59.99 is one of the best cost/benefit ratios this industry has to offer, even if you only play 6 of the 72 productions available at the end of the year.

The only drawback is that if you only own a single system from Sony, you will only be able to play 1/3 of the content you paid for, but even in this scenario, the numbers are encouraging, as you would be able to play 24 games for 59.99 dollars.

With this said, if you have your expectations in check and are not hoping to get only AAA titles and you own more than one gaming system from Sony, then PlayStation Plus was definitely worth it for you in 2016 and probably will continue to be in the years to come.

This is definitely not an ultimate list, and we are sure there have been so many other great games released this year on Steam.

\n

The next year looks even more interesting as the indie scene is turning into a true catalyst of great free-to-play games. So watch out for some great new titles coming in 2017, as well.

Eternal

\n
Genre: CCG, Strategy
Developer: Dire Wolf Digital
Steam Page
\n

Card games are everywhere now, and our list is full of them. However, this is not a drawback at all, as the statistics show that CCGs are just as popular as first-person shooters. Therefore it makes sense to talk about another great free-to-play card game -- Eternal.

\n

What makes Eternal exciting and different is a total lack of Random Number Generation (RNG). This alone should keep you interested, especially if you got tired of the Hearthstone randomness.

\n

Eternal has two PvE modes: Gauntlet and Forger, and one PvP mode called Draft. As a new player you need to climb the ladder and open booster packs for your collection. Later, when you have enough gold and cards, you can make the next step to play against some really experienced players and take your card battling to another level!

Hunger Dungeon

Genre: Action, MOBA
Developer: Buka Game Studio

Hunger Dungeon is an 8–bit pixelated arena fighter for 1-6 players. It is very similar in style to Battlerite, but with oldschool graphics and mechanics.

\n

There aren’t that many heroes in the game yet -- but when it comes to skill trees and equipment, Hunger Dungeon will surprise you with an abundance of customizable features. Hero skills are designed to make the gameplay extremely dynamic and entertaining by using all kinds of traps, bombs, clones, shields and more!

Other things such as loot, dungeon raiding and a huge number of arenas are also present, making this a game packed with content despite being free to play.

\n
Genre: CCG, Strategy, Action
Developer: CyGames
Steam Page
\n

Have you ever wanted to play a card game with an actual story? Now you can in Shadowverse -- a mobile game that became so popular the developers had to push it to other platforms.

\n

Cards in Shadowverse have an ability to evolve, meaning that their stats become bigger and better as you play them. There are hundreds of different cards in the game, and this number just keeps growing. You have access to many spells, amulets, and of course, minions.

\n

Building a deck in Shadowverse requires some knowledge of cards and their synergies. It is not enough to just put the most powerful cards in your deck and expect to win every game. Although it has elements of action, this is first and foremost a strategy game.

Paladins

\n
Genre: Action
Developer: Hi-Rez Studios
Steam Page
\n

Paladins is the latest game from the developers of Smite. Since it was announced around the time of the Overwatch release, many people naturally claimed that Hi-Rez Studios tried to copy the Blizzard formula.

\n

If you compare the two games, you will see many similarities. However, unlike Overwatch, Paladins allows you to customize your hero’s abilities with the help of cards. On top of that, every hero can equip special items that can significantly increase their effectiveness on the battlefield.

\n

Paladins also doesn’t require a high-end PC for it to perform well, so it is a good consideration for an entertaining team-based shooter, even if you don’t exactly own a high-end gaming computer!

Mandagon

Genre: Adventure
Developer: Blind Sky Studios
Steam Page
\n

If you miss simple and beautiful 2D platformers from the NES/SNES era, then Mandagon is a game for you. There are no difficult game mechanics or revolutionary approaches to platforming, but it’s a solid game that has the potential to immerse you for many hours.

\n

The best thing about Mandagon is its inspiration -- Tibetan Buddhism. You get to travel around the land of Buddhist temples and culture, meeting wrathful deities who share their wisdom with you. In this charming way you receive clues on how to move to the next levels in a colorful and inspired setting.

Istrolid

\n
Genre: Strategy
Developer: treeform

\n

Usually, when people think about a strategy game, they imagine it being slow and boring -- but that is not the case with Istrolid. This little indie project is extremely fast-paced, and yet totally makes you think in a strategic way.

\n

Here, you need to take as many points under your control as you can, and at the same time watch out for enemies intruding and trying to intercept your points.

\n

Of course, this game cannot be compared to the grand strategy games we are all so used to, but if you have a few spare hours, then Istrolid would be a perfect choice for you to get the strategy experience without the time commitment.

Iron Snout

\n
Genre: Action
Developer: SnoutUp
Steam Page
\n

Iron Snout shows us that pigs can do so much more than just getting turned into bacon. They can also fight and protect themselves from hordes of wild animals equipped with various melee weapons!

\n

The gameplay is really simple here -- all you have to do is control a piggy that stands in the center of the screen and hit every single minion that attacks you either from left or right. The more enemies you kill, the higher the pressure becomes, and the better rewards await.

\n

You can also pick up weapons that drop from the dead enemies and use them to your benefit.

It's a simple but effective premise that makes for some bloody fun carnage!

Dungeon Fighter Online

\n
Genre: MMORPG, Action, Adventure
Developer: Neople
Steam Page
\n

This Korean game offers an unprecedented 2D MMO gameplay model that combines old and new concepts. The developers took classical RPG elements and put them in an old console 2D environment. Even the resolution settings are locked at 640x480.

\n

But when it comes to the character creation menu, this is where the game offers a truly great RPG experience. There are lots of quests and other cool side events that bring humor to an otherwise action-packed story. The PvP element is present, as well.

\n

Dungeon Fighter Online has been created with players who can’t afford high-end PCs (but still want to play a good game) in mind!

Duelyst

\n
Genre: CCG, Strategy
Developer: Counterplay Games Inc.
Steam Page
\n

There aren’t that many really good collectible card games around, especially those that try not to copy the most famous games in the genre, such as Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. Duelyst is one of those games -- it really offers something both new and exciting at the same time.

\n

Of course, it has the fundamental mechanics of a card game -- the deck building, the mana utilization, the battlefield, etc. However, Duelyst has a fantastic visual style that gives this game an exclusive quality. It looks and plays more like a turn-based strategy with CCG elements rather than a pure card-based game.

\n

This makes it a completely unique game that takes a different approach to the whole genre; and worth the time of any fans looking for something slightly different.

Atlas Reactor

\n
Genre: Strategy
Developer: Trion Worlds
Steam Page
\n

Atlas Reactor is a very unusual mix of MOBA and turn-based strategy, similar to the XCOM series. Two teams fight against each other on special arenas in a 4v4 format. The battles are really short and take no more than 20 turns. Whichever team earns more frags wins.

\n

It is interesting to note that both teams can take action simultaneously, and then they both watch how their decisions work out in the context of the other team's decisions.  Given the large number of heroes and abilities, every match-up plays out differently.

\n

Atlas Reactor is like a very fast-paced game of chess that may seem too chaotic at first -- but after a few games you will adapt and grow to love it!

Mobile Gaming – Is It Set to Grow Even More? https://www.gameskinny.com/j3obi/mobile-gaming-is-it-set-to-grow-even-more https://www.gameskinny.com/j3obi/mobile-gaming-is-it-set-to-grow-even-more Thu, 17 Nov 2016 08:24:11 -0500 vishal kumawat

You only have to analyse the success of Pokémon Go to understand how the mobile gaming industry has experienced an explosion over recent years. With over 27 million downloads being made per day at its peak (around three weeks after the initial release) and around £16 million being raked in during a 24/7 period, there’s never been a game like it -- but what’s next for the mobile industry?

Are people happy downloading staples such as Scrabble and Wink Bingo or are they looking for something even more brilliant than Pokémon Go?

Why Pokémon Go was such a success

Before we can discuss the future of the industry it’s helpful to assess why Pokémon Go was such a hit and work out if this mass hysteria could possibly transcend to another game in the near future.

Popular brand

Well, firstly, Pokémon Go was released by a brand that’s captivated the world since the early 1990s. A brand so powerful that fans across the world wait eagerly for what’s to come next spurred on by the past successes of toys, cards, games movies and more.

With this in mind, it’s clear that if big names get their act together and work hard to create an experience that’s second to none – the future of mobile gaming could grow bigger and bigger. And with Nintendo set to bring Super Mario Run to smartphones in time for Christmas it seems there’s a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months.

But it seems Nintendo aren’t actually planning to outshine Pokémon Go in terms of functionality, keeping Super Mario Run simple in a bid to attract both old and new gamers and upholding the true essence of what Mario is all about – navigating two-dimensional landscapes, jumping over obstacles and collecting coins.

Free to download

Another reason for Pokémon Go’s success is that you can download it for free. There’s no initial charge meaning that if you want in on the action you can do so without spending a penny – so what’s the catch? And how did Pokémon Go bring in such a large amount of cash? Well, this is all down to in-app purchases, which, when you’re knee-deep into a game become somewhat necessary – after all, you can’t get your hands on helpful accessories that help catch Pokémon without using the app’s in-game currency, PokéCoins.

So what’s the relevancy of this clever marketing and money-making strategy? Well, it just goes to show how much cash can be generated from the mobile industry. So long as the games are of a high standard, people will be willing to pay to unlock special features opening up a host of possibilities within the online gaming world.

Top-notch features

There’s no doubt about it, Pokémon Go highlighted the brilliance of augmented reality and movement with regards to online gaming, but as competitors take note and try to gain back their fans, it feels like we’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg.

Well-known brands surely aren’t going to sit back and let companies like Nintendo and developers Niantic steal the limelight with many already doing what they can to add a new dimension to their releases.

Conclusion

Mobile gaming is a relatively new concept and therefore the idea that it has already reached its peak is somewhat hard to believe – so watch this space and being a game lover I'd love to see this go far long.

The racing MMO game The Crew will be coming to PC next week... and it will be free https://www.gameskinny.com/lrkw6/the-racing-mmo-game-the-crew-will-be-coming-to-pc-next-week-and-it-will-be-free https://www.gameskinny.com/lrkw6/the-racing-mmo-game-the-crew-will-be-coming-to-pc-next-week-and-it-will-be-free Thu, 08 Sep 2016 10:18:51 -0400 David Martinez_1224

Ubisoft's famous racing MMO The Crew, will be released for free on PC next week. Ubisoft is giving away one free PC game every month to celebrate it's 30th anniversary, and starting September 14, it will be open season for The Crew. The anniversary campaign launched off with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time being released in June, followed by the original Splinter Cell in July, and Rayman Origins in August. If players are still interested in playing Rayman Origins for free, they have six more days until The Crew replaces it.

If anyone really wants to jump on this, they must register with Ubisoft Club using their Uplay accounts. Once they register, they can download the game and they'll have it for keeps. The Crew will continue to be available for free until October 14, so players interested will have plenty of time. Players should also keep in mind that there are two expansions launching for The Crew as well: Calling All Units, and Ultimate Edition, and they will be released on November 29 on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

With this in mind, it's a good time to jump on The Crew as soon as it's released. This month belongs to the racers.

PlayStation Plus members have had their latest selection of free titles revealed to them. This month will be featuring two major releases for free to anyone who is signed up for the service.

First is Journey, the critically acclaimed adventure by the talented developers at thatgamecompany. You take on the role of a traveler as you venture through a world filled with breathtaking scenery as you search for your way to the mountaintops. It is a serene and relaxing game, with a unique online experience and a gorgeous soundtrack.

The next title we'll receive this month is Lords of the Fallen, developed by both Deck13 Interactive and CI Games and released late into 2014. You play as Harkyn, a man trying to end the war between humans and the gods. With a combat system that is often compared to Dark Souls, the game offers the player three classes to choose from, each giving a unique experience.

The full list of PlayStation Plus titles can be seen here:

PlayStation 4

  • Lords of the Fallen
  • Journey
  • Badland

PlayStation 3

  • Journey
  • Princes of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
  • Datura
  • Badland

PlayStation Vita

  • Amnesia: Memories

There is also however some sad news to go with this announcement. As of September 22nd the price of PlayStation Plus yearly membership will be increasing. The price of one year of service will be increasing from $49.99 USD/$49.99 CAD to $59.99 USD/$69.99 CAD. The price of a three month subscription will be increasing from $17.99 USD/$17.99 CAD to $24.99 USD/$29.99 CAD. Finally, the one month price of PlayStation Plus will not be changing in USD but will be increasing from $9.99 CAD to $11.99 CAD.

Sony had the following to say in regards to the price increase, blaming market conditions for the hike:

PlayStation Plus strives to enrich your PlayStation experience through a world-class service built for our fans. This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.

The price of the service had already gone up for Europe and the UK at a similar time last year.

Rocket League
\n

Rev up your engines and take to the skies in the game that surprised everyone and set itself among the best game of 2015. Introduced onto the PS4 through PS Plus, it grabbed gamers with its frantic paced, adrenaline-filled battles. Easy to pick up but difficult to master, Rocket League is an intensely layered competitive game that veterans have sunk days in, perfecting their aerial hits and goal line clearances.

\n

The games can be chaotic, as players duke it out 4v4 in a game mode aptly titled Chaos. Or it can be calculated and cooperative in 2v2, sussing out your opponents and striking a winning partnership with your teammate.

\n

With an ever growing community and developers always looking to give back to their strong fanbase, Rocket League is updated regularly with new maps, new cars, and new game modes like Basketball and Ice Hockey. Even if you weren't fortunate enough to grab this when it was free, it is undoubtedly worthy of a purchase.

\n

These are just a handful of the great games PS Plus has to offer, and they are just my personal favorites. Games like Magicka 2, Zombi, NBA 2K16 have also been available for free, covering plenty of different genres. So no matter what games you love playing, PS Plus will have one for you.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition
\n

A child of the Metroidvania era of gaming, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is a game that doesn't take itself seriously, which is all part of its charm. Littered with references from one of its founders in Metroid to modern games like Journey, Guacamelee! is a game made by developers with a passion for the games they love. In an all-too-familiar story line of rescuing a female love interest from the clutches of a villain, a silent protagonist sets off on a journey to rescue his love and stop the evil forces.

\n

What sets this game apart from the games it parodies is its brilliant dimension-hopping ability that adds a fresh twist on puzzle solving as well as combat. A clever unlockables system creates shortcuts and new pathways to previously trodden on areas, and each of these unlockables increase your luchador's fighting skills, adding layers of depth as the player explores further into the game.

\n

For lovers of Metroid and 2D adventure games, Guacamelee is the game for you.

The gameplay changes with each of its four chapters and keeps things fresh. The player begins growing vines to climb on, exploring the darkness, manipulating light as they traverse, constructing shapes within a blueprint, and then exploring a dream world.

\n

This is another relaxing game to unwind with and an experience not to be passed up. The Unfinished Swan is a must-buy exclusive on the PS4.

Telltale's The Walking Dead
\n

Return to the post-apocalypse as Clementine while she continues to survive, though this time without the paternal figure of Lee to protect her. It's a dead-rubber if you haven't played Season One, but those who started Clementine's story on PS3 can continue it on PS4 for free.

\n

Filled with the difficult choices and the subsequent serious consequences, The Walking Dead is a Telltale game that always leaves you second guessing your actions.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War
\n

Step back in time and into the shoes of the heroes from The Great War and experience it for yourself. Valiant Hearts goes back in time and explores the heroes in one of humanity's darkest times. The game tells the story of people from five different nations helping others and trying to reunite with their loved ones.

\n

This is a fun game to unwind with or to play on the side of more hardcore games. It's simple side-scrolling adventure/puzzle game cramped with entertaining characters, brimming with humor and personality.

\n

The game is a much-needed reminder of the services and sacrifices this brave generation endured to ensure victory, and the game provides information about the war for keen gamers wanting to learn more.

We all love free stuff. And with PlayStation Plus, each month gamers are given 2-3 games free of charge. The program was a huge success on the PS3, with titles such as Demon's Souls, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, leading the impressive backlog of games.

\n

On the surface, the PS4's collection is lackluster in comparison. A severe lack of AAA titles and a vast amount of PS3 cross-buy games have left users underwhelmed with their PS Plus offerings.

\n

However, Sony has not actually disappointed with the roster on PS4 -- there's just a lot of solid games offered that have been quickly dismissed. Here are some of the best PS Plus titles available for PlayStation 4. If you don't have some of these, I implore you to pick them up.

Sony Announces June's PlayStation Plus Free Games https://www.gameskinny.com/31sfb/sony-announces-junes-playstation-plus-free-games https://www.gameskinny.com/31sfb/sony-announces-junes-playstation-plus-free-games Tue, 31 May 2016 12:13:59 -0400 Cody Drain

Sony has announced this month's free PlayStation Plus games, and they are quality choices. The first game for the PlayStation 4 is NBA 2K16.  Released just in time for the NBA Finals (which begin on Thursday), 2K16 is one of the best entries in the NBA 2K franchise to date, including modes such as MyGM, MyCareer, and MyTeam for the ultimate virtual basketball (and arguably sports game) experience. The second game is Gone Home: Console Edition. Greg Lewickyj, Sony's PlayStation Plus Content Partnership Manager, praises the first-person action-adventure game as an "intimate and unique story."

The other Sony platforms haven't been left out, either. The first free game for the PlayStation 3 is Echochrome, an interesting puzzle game with hand-drawn aesthetics built around the five "perspective laws," such as the "perspective landing" and the "perspective jump." The second title is the horror game Siren: Blood Curse (Episodes 1-12). Meanwhile, PS Vita users will receive the gory God of War: Chains of Olympus and Little Deviants, a game where players navigate a cute, cartoon ball character along courses filled with obstacles and threats.

With the long months of summer beckoning on the horizon, this is a good opportunity for PlayStation users to grab some great games for free!

PlayStation Plus Free Games For April 2016 Announced https://www.gameskinny.com/7yday/playstation-plus-free-games-for-april-2016-announced https://www.gameskinny.com/7yday/playstation-plus-free-games-for-april-2016-announced Wed, 30 Mar 2016 10:37:55 -0400 Eric Levy

The PlayStation Plus games for April have officially been announced, and PS4 owners are in for a treat.

First up is Dead Star, an arcade-space-shooter-RPG from Armature Studios -- a studio founded by key members of the Metroid Prime team. This 20-player online experience, while easy to pick up and play, also offers a great deal of depth with skill trees, ship upgrades, loot to collect, and many other details and mechanics.  Get your warships ready and prepare for 10v10 space madness.

Finally, PS4 owners are also getting Ubisoft's first-person survival-horror game Zombi.  Zombi was originally released as a Wii U launch title and was later brought over to PS4 and Xbox One.  Taking place in London after a zombie outbreak, you need to do whatever it takes to survive as long as you can.  Challenging and creative gameplay mechanics, along with the permadeath system make this cult hit worth checking out.

Here's the full line-up for April:
  • Dead Star (PS4)
  • Zombi (PS4)
  • I Am Alive (PS3)
  • Savage Moon (PS3)
  • A Virus Named Tom (PS Vita)
  • Shutshimi (PS Vita)

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced the Xbox Live Games for Gold for April, and their line-up is pretty strong as well.  Which free games will you be downloading in April?  Let us know in the comments below!
