I'm an avid League of Legends player. One of my favourite champions to play is by far Garen. Garen, the Might of Demacia. When I moved to GW2, the first classes I test ran were Warrior & Guardian and they've both been my favourite up until now. When Garen was reworked by Riot Games, I figured, why not pay some homage to the champion I adore? Furthermore, I changed it up a lot, paying homage to Ascalon as well.

My initial ideas began with the full human cultural set (T3) and I built from there.  I already had most of the set; boots, shoulderpads, helmet and gloves, so building from there wasn't particularly hard for me. I considered the cultural chest and legs but the more I stared at Garen's new look, the more I played him, I couldn't help but notice that his leggings were more clothlike than the bulkiness T3 provided.  The Cultural T3 chest piece just made my character feel too fat.

Instead I opted for the two Vigil pieces, the leggings offering me a sleeker, clothlike feel and the chestpiece much slimmer, giving me the scarf around the neck as well. I had considered using the Dark pauldrons instead of the T3, but the dye channels didn't match, and on top, it didn't give the bulky feel I felt when using the Cultural.

The grey (Burnished Steel) is a color I've been incredibly fond of for a while now. It brings out an immense amount of detail in Heavy armours. Sand was chosen over Gold because I find that Gold is a strong colour for metal, and I personally prefer a more faded, used colour. Sand was what came up. Sapphire was originally a colour I used as a house colour for my character's noble house and it stuck as it matches the deep blue of Garen's armour as well.

This armour definitely embraces Ascalonian Justice.

Unsurprisingly perhaps, Necromancers completely swept this category.

\n

They picked it up, and dragged it off kicking and screaming to some dark, terrifying cave of horrors, where it would never to see the light of day again.

\n

Okay, maybe a little over the top. But you'll be feeling the despair yourself after you check these dark fashion icons out.

My Top 10 Most Diabolically Fashionable Outfit *Tutorial* https://www.gameskinny.com/wgin4/my-top-10-most-diabolically-fashionable-outfit-tutorial https://www.gameskinny.com/wgin4/my-top-10-most-diabolically-fashionable-outfit-tutorial Tue, 27 Aug 2013 11:56:42 -0400 RelaxinGuy

Hey there,

This is my character Fading Shadow. I entered the Gameskinny Guild Wars 2 fashion contest and made it to the Top 10 Most Diabolic outfits. During the contest I've gotten comments from people who really liked my outfit, so I decided to make a little tutorial on how to get all the pieces of my outfit and tell you why I wanted to use them.

Here is a little overview of all the items that I'm using.

Armor

(Head) - Fanged Dread Mask ( Mesmer starting mask )

I use the Fanged Mask because it adds some uniqueness to the outfit and it also gives my necromancer a very angry look. Before I got the fanged mask i used the headpiece from the citadel of flames dungeon. I would get a lot of comments saying that people liked my outfit but that the helm ruined it because "everyone uses the cof helm". The mask can be obtained by using a glitch in the game, I'll explain it at the end of the post.

(Shoulder) - Corrupted Orrian Mantle

This is the light shoulder piece that can be bought at the arah dungeon token vendor in Lion's Arch. The shoulder piece costs 210 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the arah dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. I use this shoulder piece because the eyes on this piece give your character a scary look and it makes your character seem a bit bigger wich is quite useful when trying to look like a mean Asura.

(Chest) - Corrupted Orrian Vestsments

This is the light chest piece that can be bought at the arah dungeon token vendor in Lion's Arch. The chest piece costs 330 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the arah dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. This is the last piece that i got to complete my outfit, i was looking around for a good chest piece for a while. There are plenty of scary looking items in the game but most are very common and i wanted something that wasnt to easy to get so it be original yet still look scary.

(Gloves) - Hellfire Vambraces

This is a glove skin that can be obtained trough the achievement chest. You get your first chance to get this at 3000 achievement points. You can choose between the radiant glove skin or the hellfire glove skin. If you chose the radiant glove skin at 3000ap you can get the hellfire at 12000ap. Before i used this skin i was using the gloves from the citadel of flames, something about the burning gloves i really like, it adds a bit of demonic taste to the outfit.

(Legs) - Nightmare Pants

This is the light leg piece that can be bought at the twilight arbor dungeon token vendor in Lion's Arch. The leg piece costs 300 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the twilight arbor dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens per day. I like this piece because it's a very long piece, just as the shoulder piece it makes your character look a bit bigger. The plant like look of the piece give this piece the scary look when it's dyed dark but I've seen other people use it with white and then it looks very different.

(Shoes) - Flame Legion Shoes

These are the light shoes that can be bought at the citadel of flames dungeon token vendor in Lion's Arch. The shoes cost 180 tokens, the tokens can be obtained by playing the citadel of flames dungeon in exploreable mode. For each path that you complete you get 60 tokens + some bonus tokens each day. Personally I don't think the shoes matter that much for this outfit since the Nightmare Pants cover most of your feet.

(Backpiece) - Sclerite Karka Shell

The Sclerite Karka Shell is a back piece that was obtainable during the Secret of Southsun living story patch. I use this because I think that this is the scariest back piece in the game at the moment.

Here are some pictures to show off the outfit in-game:

Most of the armor pieces are obtained by playing certain dungeons in the game and need lvl 80 to equip them. ( Unless you transmutate the skin but in my opinion it's better to just level your character to level 80 instead of wasting transmutation crystals )

Weapons

The weapons that I'm using are more a way of adding some scary stuff to my necromancer. During the Halloween events last year a lot of scary weapons have been released and one of them is the staff "The Crossing". This is the staff that im currently using but ive been thinking about maybe getting the scythe staff skin to switch things up a bit.

My other weapon set is the scepter "Zhaitan's Reach" with a normal dagger with the sclerite dagger skin. All the weapons can be bought on the trading post but they can be a bit expensive.

Prices at the moment: (27/08/2013)
  • The Crossing - 156G
  • Zhaitan's Reach - 2G 60S
  • Sclerite Dagger Skin - 116G
Mesmer Starting Mask Tutorial:

Now I will explain the way i got my mask,  I'm not sure if this has been patched or not since I don't have any character slots to test it out anymore but I will explain the way to get it.

Things needed:
  • New Character
  • Transmutation Stone
  • Low level white item of the same type or a weapon/armor merchant
Steps
  • Make a new character with the starter piece that you want ( works for the Mesmer mask but also for every other piece )
  • Complete the starting quest, I recommend making a Sylvari or Asura since their starting stories are quite short.
  • Go to a bank and grab a transmutation stone. If you don't have one you can get them in the gem store or from rewards by doing the story quest.
  • *If you have a white item of the same type you can skip the next step but I recommend doing it anyway
  • Go to a weapon/armor merchant and buy an item of the same type.
  • When you have your item, use the transmutation stone and transfer the skin from the starter item to the white item.

The item should say its soulbound but when you complete the transmutation it should say it's accountbound. After that you can swap it to wich ever character you want it on and delete the character if you want. ( I would do this since you can easily restart with another starter item later on if you want to make a character of the same profession).

Well I hope you found this useful and it helps you get the diabolic look that you have looked for.

Gardios set out on a quest to clad their male elementalist as scantily as possible - for SCIENCE! (Mostly.)

I'm not crossing him, that's for sure.

Character: Leopard Lacewing, Order of Whispers
\n

Dream Avenuecrafted an ode to the Order out of a wide variety of sets, but you wouldn't know to look at her; the parts work together so well it has the appearance of a bona fide single set outfit.

\n

Sometimes being fashionable isn't about screaming a new style, it's about whispering it.

\n
\n

"The Order of Whispers philosophies are my personal favourite so I wished to have a set of gear suitable to the order. Instead of the bells and whistles of the light armour, I wanted to find a sleeker look more typical of medium armour sets.

\n

My favourite part of this set is the diversity. Guild Wars 2 armour sets are often distinct in their styles. To be able to mix and match so many sets with such a coherent result makes me proud of this outfit."

Character: Curin Derwin, Sylvari Guardian
\n

Curin Derwin may be sporting a full set of Nightmare armor, but he's given it an unusual color treatment that compliments his Sylvari coloration and has WvW benefits as well.

\n
\n

"The bitter frost has numbed this guardian from the pains of battle. The blades of his ice cut flesh and armor like a razor. Granting stability and guarding his allies with powerful magic, he remains an insurmountable foe on the battlefield, leaving only his allies to stand the victors."

About the outfit:

\n
\n

"Finding the right dyes for each individual piece was difficult, as they must compliment the Seafoam Green effect that Sky skin has on the armor's unchangable Sylvari skin dye slot. The Brook and Celestial White dyes on the leggings recreate the look of snow and add a fantastic blend that the outfit needed for balance."

\n

"The flame legion thought that their rituals on using humans as minions was a failure, little did they know. One man survived the torturous experiment and narrowly escaped the citadel. Update!
I am soOOOOoooo proud of this outfit. Argh.

\n

I recently acquired Abyss dye, which I sold for 25 gold on the TP... for the Krytan armor!

\n

What I did was try to make a biker look as much as possible- and I think it looks pretty good.

\n

The dyes go as following:

\n
    \n
  • Midnight Ice (Jacket, glove, pant detail, shoes)
  • \n
  • Celestial (Chest, glove)
  • \n
  • Old Jeans (Pants! Go jeans!)
  • \n
\n

And the armor is as such:

\n
    \n
  • Krytan chest piece
  • \n
  • WvW medium gloves
  • \n
  • Krytan pants
  • \n
  • Duelist shoes
  • \n
\n

Still on the prowl for the perfect shoes... :)

\n

Well, I guess that's it. I have a LOT of screenies, but I guess I'll save them for another time.

\n

Even though the fashion contest is coming to it's end, how about spying upon Max's and my entry. Comments and tips for next time (believe me, you haven't seen the LAST of Mean Girls) would be really sweet.

And finally, my ele. Can you see my hair preference? :D

\n

Full profane- skimpy, yes. I am looking into a chest piece which dyes in a similar fashion. No luck so far.

\n

Mostly, when I think profane, I think mesmer. When thinking ele, I think winged or T3 (personally not a favourite of mine.)

\n

There a different kinds of Elementalists, it all depends on who you are! I like to look sexy and dangerous when hitting an enemy with a Fire Grab (though I personally prefer dagger/focus). ;)

This is my simple look. And HELL YEAH, I LOVE IT! The jerkin is one my favourite pieces of armor in the game, despite the opinion of many others. I tried to avoid any flashy colours, save the sapphire. No black is used in this piece at all. The dyes are the following:

\n
    \n
  • Midnight Rust
  • \n
  • Celestial
  • \n
  • Sapphire
  • \n
\n

Pretty basic, amirite? I love wearing this while roaming in WvW... ganking my enemies while wearing this just feels... so right.

"},{"image":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/a1034e1b2ba382f0db0f15a48088fd54.jpg","thumb":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/tiny_a1034e1b2ba382f0db0f15a48088fd54.jpg","type":"slide","id":"18567","description":"

First outfit:

\n
    \n
  • WvW Helm (Later shown, I love that shit.)
  • \n
  • Whisper's Shoulder (barely seen in this snap.)
  • \n
  • T3 Chest
  • \n
  • Vigil Diaper
  • \n
  • WvW Gloves (Medium, of course.)
  • \n
  • CM boots- also known as Divinity's Council Boots
  • \n
\n

For this somewhat unoriginal look, I wanted to go with a, and yes, you may laugh, cat-womanesque look. Er, I know this is sort of lame, but I'm talking the 2004 Catwoman movie starring Halle Berry.

\n

The dyes are pretty simple. I know, black is kind of a "blah" and, how do I put it, boring colour if used too much. And I try hard to stay away from my glorified Midnight Ice as much as possible, but I used it for this semi-dark look.

\n

And being the lady I am, I would prefer the underboob of the T3 chest to be tamed- but I pretty much ground on and off for that 30g ever since I started the game, in which I spent for more useful things. As soon as the Crown Pavilion glorious farm appeared, I seized my chance, got 30g in probably 2 hour in non-magic find gear, and bought AND transmuted this piece. Yeah, I guess it's just a piece that reminds me of my younger days in GW2.

"},{"image":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/1dc31da68fa09e5bcef270ff58107e19.jpg","thumb":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/tiny_1dc31da68fa09e5bcef270ff58107e19.jpg","type":"slide","id":"18565","description":"

If there's one issue I have above all others with this armor set it the gloves and shoulders. I absolutely LOVE the WvW gloves- I'm not going to lie. I just think they're badass. Okay? But as you can see, the oversized glove is on the same side as the shoulder- a problem in which I could fix. Maybe I'll invest in some new gloves- maybe. (Also, like the new 'do? The bob just didn't cut it.) I took this unimpressive shot in HotW, where I would, yes, I did do this- make my GUILDIES stop for a few seconds to snap screenies. (Love ya, iLL!)

This is my prized screen shot. Showin' off my Zenith shortbow along with the newly acquired Tier 3 Cultural chest for human medium (I know, I know- everyone and their MOTHER has it- well, almost). This was taken at the Nonmoa Waypoint in Timberline falls. I tried MULTIPLE times to get some action shots- this was one of the most successful.

\n

The dyes are simple, celestial and emerald... Hopefully you'll find as we progress that my scheme will be a bit of an improvement. I chose emerald and white not only because, in my opinion they look pretty spankin' good together, but also because, when wielded, the Zenith weapons give a greenish glow amid the crystals that MAKE the weapon. :)

Though we are sad we don't have a chance at 4k gems to indulge on, we are excited for the upcoming categories and desperately hope to place in one of those!

\n

\n

Anyways- I'm just here to show off my various outfits for my thief, and will flash a little bit of my ele as well.

\n

For this screenshot, I wanted to show not only my outfit, but really what I love most- the beauty of the game. This is the colossus fractal, taken right before the... Chest seal? Anyways, here is this one.

Well, If I wasn't destined to win, it must be because I was destined to be a guest judge!

Overall I was super-impressed with the entries I saw as the contest went on.  There were so many creative styles!  I found inspiration especially in some of the less-flashy looks that still worked well.  My own outfits are usually very bright and I think I will be trying more subdued looks in the future based on some of the things I have seen.

But I was pretty disappointed in the final ten chosen.  Not (only) because I wasn't in it - I already suspected that my chances were quite small - but because some of the entries didn't seem particularly inspired compared to many that were not chosen.  I understand that with so many entries to choose from it can't have been easy to pick finalists.  In some cases it seemed like entries were chosen just for the sake of variety - but then if variety was what they wanted why not include a charr?

The following are my sometimes unkind opinions about the finalists chosen.  To the finalists: I hope I won't offend you too much, but if I do, just remember that you won and I didn't.  That surely will make you feel better about anything I could say!

 Krayn_7567

As far as the entries go I think that the winner should be The Iron Alchemist.  The Iron Alchemist may not have the most flashy outfit of the top ten, but looking good doesn't have to be about showing off your legendary.  The armor pieces came from different sets but worked well together, the dye was neither too bold nor too boring, and the locations chosen for the screenshots fit with the theme of the outfit.

 Guades

I give Guades credit for his choices in mixing armor pieces, although I think better screenshots would have helped the entry a lot.  A photo with a higher camera angle would have been nice.  Still, the dye job was nicely done and I liked the use of red to liven things up while keeping a traditional look.  I would put this entry in second place

.

After these two entries the field looks grim.  I have no suggestion for third place because I think the rest fell short.  In no particular order, here are my thoughts on the other entries.

 Hunter712

The Dapper Asura looks to me like he just stepped in something awful.  I think there's a fine line between looking dignified and looking grumpy and this asura fell on the wrong side of it.  There is a huge range of emotion and expression that asura can use!  I feel like you totally missed the mark here.  Also what is up with that bright orange dye?  Just because you've got a Ringmaster's hat doesn't mean you should try to look like you're in a circus!

  Charlee_

Fallen Angels tried hard to create a nice look and I think a lot of parts succeeded but I can't get over the use of t3 pants.  From the random metal tab under the belly button to the ugly dark line it creates around the waist, I think that is just about the worst piece of armor you could have chosen.  On top of that, the choice doesn't even seem very creative - I walk by 5 norns in Gladiators Tops + T3 Leggings a day on the way to the trading post from the bank!

I am guessing that the Norn, being the practical people they are, have all gotten together and agreed to use the armor that requires the least amount of metal.  That way they can  send resources to the Pact for fighting the Elder Dragons.  Leggings choices aside, the dye was great and this was definitely the best use of Radiant Vambraces shown by any finalist.

shadowmyst

Inathe's pictures were gorgeous to be sure!  But I think it would be a shame if Ianthe won just based on the awesome photoshopping rather than the outfit itself, which, while nice enough, doesn't seem particularly outstanding.

 kitten konekochan

Perhaps kitten konekochan did do a nice job of ...wearing pants and a hood.  But the dye fails to impress (and doesn't go with the glow!) and the character is just standing around bored in the screenshots which makes me feel bored to look at them.

Yago Medava

I can only assume Yago Medava made it to the top 10 because they wanted to include more male characters as finalists.  The armor is boring and not even dyed creatively.  I don't know what the judges saw in this entry besides cute screenshot locations.  I loved the schoolroom shot but what does that have to do with your armor?

 Sabishii Kiba

Sabishii Kiba, saying that you're a fashonista doesn't make you one - I think your look is a hot mess. The whispers breastplate and aetherblade leggings seem to be aiming for sexy - but the tops of the aetherblade boots ruin the line of your legs and the clunky gloves distract from your figure.

I think the Braham's armor set would have been a much better choice to get away from plate mail.  Gladators accessories could have tied it together.

But let's focus on the look you did pick.  It seems like the metal highlights in the Aetherblade pieces forced your hand a bit for the pauldrons to try and pull the look together.  It could have been helped by better choices for dye if you hadn't chosen the radiant gauntlets and been stuck with the silver and white.  I mean really, you're using silver and gold both to highlight the same outfit?  Pick a metal and stick with it.

Finally, the monocle.  It doesn't seem to relate to the rest of your outfit at all.  I guess that is where the noble aspect of your look is supposed to come from?

If I saw you in this outfit but with different gauntlets and a more focused color scheme (maybe a deep red, rich leather, gold theme?) then I might be impressed by your looks when you stomp me in WvW.  But currently I will probably die of laughter.  Or because I'm bad at WvW.

   MoonlitLilac

I love the gorgeous screenshots taken of Persefone Fleur but that Orrian armor kills any sense of majesty you'd expect in a queen. I love what you're trying to do with the mask and the rapier but I think those giant eyes and bodysuit look to the armor just clash with it!  A lot of your screenshots seemed to be from the streets of divinity's reach... and the bodysuit makes me think you are walking those streets for less-than-noble reasons.  I definitely give you points for keeping up with the latest trends by using brand-new items though!

So there we have it! The top 10 finalists!  Oh, did I forget one? Ah, yes.

Ciaran Paine

Ciaran Paine II's look, while not objectively bad, was almost as boring as the backgrounds used in the pictures.  Where's the creativity?  If you have a basic look, you could at least make the pictures fun to look at instead.

And that was the full top 10!

In the end, I hope none of you take these comments too seriously - I have a great deal of respect for all the work everybody put into their entries.  And the entries that frustrated me the most were ones where I could tell a lot of effort was made but I simply disagreed strongly with certain choices.  Obviously my opinion is different than that of those judging though, so I wish you all the best of luck!

Top 9

  1. Kiba, The Sir
  2. Persefone, The Queen of Pink Hearts
  3. Koneko, The Shy Elementalist
  4. Atlas, The Iron Alchemist
  5. Ianthe, The Krytan Guardian
  6. Keggin, The Most Dashingly Dapper
  7. Charlee, The Ice Cold Angel
  8. Ciaran, The Jade Pirate
  9. Yago, The Angelic Mage

My entry: Guades, Elite Ascalonian Armor.

Breakdown

Here is where I'll break down every outfit to a few main principles. Specifically the following:

  • Harmonics: How well the armor works together.
  • Dyes: How the dyes synchronise with the armor.
  • Color Balance: How well all colors work together, this also includes skin or fur.
  • Variety: How many different armor sets were used.
  • Class Adherence: How the armor relates to the character's class.
  • Originality: How original the specific pieces are in combination.
1. Sabishii Kiba, The Sir

Harmonics
The lower part of the armor consists of a single armor set so they obviously work well together. However, everything above that has a completely different origin. The Whisperer's Breastplate works perfectly with the Heavy Aetherblade Leggings and the Conqueror's Mantle. The daggers on the armor practically meld with the shoulders. This is also the only Radiant piece I've seen so far that works together with the rest of the armor.

Dyes
Combining different armor sets isn't just a matter of finding pieces that work together, an equally important part is the colors and how well they sew the pieces together. In this case the materials are perfectly linked through the same shade of dark blue and the metal imitates the shade of grey used on the Radiant gloves.

Color Balance
There is a very nice distribution of dark and light colors across the armor and the gold trim provides the tertiary color required for a good balance.

Variety
There are only two pieces of the armor that originate from the same set, i.e. the legs and boots. Because of this the outfit definently deserves my respect for finding this many pieces of armor that work together.

Class Adherence
Even though the armor is based around the concept of a light-armored knight, the addition of the Radiant gloves and the Conquerer's Mantle still make it feel like a Guardian while not giving the heavy armored feel you'd expect from one.

Originality
After I saw this post I checked out the possibility of a light-armored guardian for myself and I couldn't come up with anything better than this and the idea behind this outfit is definently something not everyone would go for.

2. Persefone Fleur, The Queen Gone Crazy

Harmonics
The main part of the armor consists of the same armor set but all the other pieces look like they're from the same set regardless. Unlike with heavy or medium armor the boots and headpiece are usually seperate or oppresed by the rest of the outfit so I can't give it a perfect appraisal for harmonics even if it's one of the few armor sets that has a matching weapon.

Dyes
Perfect. The dyes are what make this armor a Top 3 finisher, the focus on pastels and light colors really gives off the noble ladylike vibe intended for this character. Additionally, the use of light colors on the Orrian armor set is something that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Color Balance
Sadly, this really isn't all that good in terms of color balance. Every part of this character screams pink, pastel and pale. I'd have preferred a dark accent somewhere in this armor because as it stands it's one of the least balanced armor sets by itself even though the screenshots don't make it feel unbalanced because of the several dark backgrounds.

Variety
There are only two pieces of the armor that originate from the same set, i.e. the chest and legs. Because of this the outfit must've posed quite the challenge for the creator to complete and thus deserves a kudos.

Class Adherence
This armor represents everything a mesmer stands for; mystery, elegance and eccentricity. The inclusion of Bonetti's Rapier further perfects it because, let's be honest, it's the only weapon you want to see in those soft lady hands.

Originality
The concept isn't all that original because of the amazing class adherence nor does it blow me away with an amazing take on their character or the world of Guild Wars. It's worth stating though that the use of Orrian armor in this instance is quite unique.

3. Koneko, The Shy Elementalist

Harmonics
Everything up from the waist consists of the same armor set so they obviously work well together but the modest pants and shoes really make it look as if the entire thing is from the same set.

Dyes
A bit dissapointing but nice in its own respect. Instead of the usual elemental colorful combinations you'd expect from an elementalist this outfit strives for obscurity and a grimey feel more suited to the world of Tyria than the usual bright colors you see everywhere.

Color Balance
Even though everything is colored in a dark and faded way, the inherent nature of the sylvari redeems the color balance for this outfit due to their glowing purple accents.

Variety
Most of the armor consists of the very popular Winged armor set but what makes this outfit unique is the inclusion of modest clothing for below the waist instead of the usual, quite revealing, armor that is worn by most elementalists.

Class Adherence
Regardless of the colors and the pieces of armor used, this outfit still works perfectly with a specific kind of elementalist. I feel the grimey nature of magic is expressed quite nicely with this armor and in my mind the backstory for this character is dramatic and dark thus she prefers to remain distant through her clothing while not forgetting that mages need their "distracting" clothes aswell to draw the enemy's (or ally's) eyes away from their spells.

Originality
A very unique concept backs up this outfit and is the main reason why I want this armor to be put in the spotlight some more.

4. Atlas Krayn, The Iron Alchemist

Harmonics
The biggest advantage of medium armor is that most of the chest armors are trenchcoats and thus work well with most other armor pieces. Although the choice of shoulder definently looks very cobbled together and reminds me of a practical early age engineer, the intent with this armor was steampunk and I don't really feel that the look's been accomplished. I base this conclusion upon the use of the Krytan Boots which are more suited for rangers than engineers. It looks good enough to earn N°4 though.

Dyes
There's a nice variety of dyes included in this armor but some browns are just a tad darker or a tad lighter than others. This could be due to insufficient experimentation with dyes or just not having found that 1 dye that ties it all together perfectly. However the dyes do connect the outfit well enough to make the entire thing give off a coherent feel.

Color Balance
As stated above, the dye job is splendid and this especially noticeable in the color balance. The balance between bright gold and dark brown aswell as the teriary green and white detailing make the armor a pleasure to look at.

Variety
This is probably the most varied set in the competition, I think. With every armor piece having a different origin the variety is the saving grace that got this armor a Top 5 spot. Although personally I don't feel it's that hard to match together leather armor. But hey, what do I know? I'm a heavy armor fanatic.

Class Adherence
Perfect. I can't claim to have seen an engineer with a better armor set. The mecha-monocle and the single shoulder piece really gives me a rag-tag technological feel that perfectly symbolizes the GW2 Engineer.

Originality
Not quite as original as some of the other entries because of how well it symbolizes the engineer class. However, the noble coat's addition of the pouch does give it an unexpected detail.

5. Ianthe, The Krytan Guardian

Harmonics
While most of the armor works well together there is one specific flaws that demands attention. If you look at the waistline you'll see that the transition between the T3 Human Cultural chest armor and the Scaled Leggings is odd. It looks as if the hips expand at a straight angle starting at the end of the chestplate. That aside, all armor pieces work together to provide a scaley, winged and slightly angelic feel.

Dyes
The golden dyes used throughout the armor tie everything together quite nicely. But, oh, and there's always a "but," there's a glaring issue I have with this outfit. In this case I'm talking about the Nobleman's Gloves and Boots. Being a heavy-armor fanatic the glaring dark patches on these pieces stand out to me like a sore thumb. Not only do they ruin the polished feel one should get from golden armor they also look more like rocks than refined metal.

Color Balance
As with Persefone this armor focuses on light colors and a noble feel. But this isn't The Queen of Pink Hearts, this is better. The dark hair color aswell as the latina complexion balance out what would otherwise be a glaring bunch of pale pastels.

Variety
With 3 origins this outfit has the average number of sources one would expect from a fashion contest. Not bad, but not as amazingly varied as some other entries.

Class Adherence
The idea behind this armor was to make an extravagant and wealthy look. A look most people would shun from their guardians, which are portrayed as the humble protectors of Tyria. However if you don't look at them like that but compare them to medieval crusaders suddenly this look fits like a glove. Much like crusaders this outfit is an eccentric display of wealth and not practicality

Originality
This is by far the first character that's done the white & gold color scheme but the unexpected class adherence, whether it be an accident or not, does give this outfit a couple of points in originality.

6. Keggin, The Most Dashingly Dapper

Harmonics
Not much to say on this, It's a hat that doesn't interact with the armor in any way, a pre-designed set and a pair of gloves that might aswell've been just hands. It's obvious that they work together harmoniously.

Dyes
This is the saving grace of the armor. I don't know much about real-world fashion but seeing the "build-up" of dyes this armor has is quite refreshing from most combat armors which are dyed to match eachother through shared colors. Here the matching is done through the use of complimentary colors such as the orange and blue combination evident throughout the armor. It's worth noting however that none of the red colors match eachother exactly which, to me, is a huge black mark.

Color Balance
Excellent, the armor has a nice selection of dyes that work well together and thus the armor isn't way too heavy on a single hue. However, because the character in question is an asura the hat and chest armor are exponentially larger thus giving the armor a bit of a blue "overload".

Variety
Even though I would say the variety in this outfit is average, the difference in how visible each armor piece is drives me to class it as "below average". Like I said in Harmonics, the gloves might aswell have been ignored completely because they're dyed so dark to match the asuran's skin that most casual onlookers would barely notice a difference.

Class Adherence
This is fairly difficult to discuss because town clothers are universal. Instead, I'll talk about how the outfit works with the Asuran race.

An over-the-top extravagant outfit for an arrogant race of self-indulged mice. In other words, perfect.

Originality
Combining a top hat with a set of fancy clothing is hardly what I'd call original.

7. Charlee, The Ice Cold Angel

Harmonics
The chest and shoulderpiece work together quite well but that's where it ends. The radiant gloves disrupt the robust metal plating of the aforementioned pieces with their soft curves and the Stag Leggings curse at both with their sharp angles. While the Ascalonian boots throw more fuel in the fire by backing up the radiant gloves with it's slightly harsher curves.

Dyes
The addition of Radiant gloves really doesn't help this outfit, this carries on into the dyes. Because the radiant gloves can't be dyed their metal stands out like a splash of spilt wine against the lighter metal, dyed white, displayed in the rest of the armor. Additionally, the dirty white used in the leggings's cloth disrupts the "clean as ice" look strived for by this outfit.

Color Balance
Even with the less than amazing dye job the color balance redeems some of the armor. Blue and silver are always a nice combination and the skimpyness of most armor pieces balances out the colors with the character's skin tone. Together with the auburn hair I'd say there's sufficient contrast in this armor to make it nicely balanced.

Variety
Great, every piece has a different origin but that doesn't mean they work together sufficiently to earn a Top 5 spot. Additionally, I feel that the radiant gloves were added more as an afterthought because they looked fancy.

Class Adherence
Blue and white are usually colors you'd expect on a guardian but it isn't stated in the original post which class this is. However, if you look even a little closer you'll notice they character is dual-wielding axes, along with the heavy armor this means it's a warrior. Thus I can't give it any kudos for adhering to their class. Rather, they focused on an icey look more adherent to their race.

Originality
Sadly, this armor consists of some of the most generic armor pieces found on norn. i.e. Gladiator's Chest, Stag Leggings and Radiant Vambraces. I'll admit to using the Stag Leggings on my own norn but I really don't feel this is an original combination.

8. Ciaran Paine II, The Jade Pirate

Harmonics
At first glance when looking above the waist you'd think this outfit works together to form a coherent whole. This isn't the case though, once you reach the hands it's clear that the gloves of choice have some serious issues with physics. This along with the highly impractical shoulderpiece and wristblades completely ruins the pirate vibe I should be getting from this armor.

Dyes
When I think pirate, I think faded browns and yellowed whites combined with flamboyant reds. That's why this choice of coloring left me scratching my head. Upon further investigation it appears that the author justifies it as a canthan garb themed to his weapons. Having seen Cantha in GW1 I can assure you that neither the Imperials, Kurzicks, Luxons or even the monks of Shing Jea have anything close to these colors.

Color Balance
An overwhelming amount of dark blue is used in the outfit and attempts to be balanced out by one of the uglier shades of green that GW2 has to offer. While the white accents certainly help it, I feel that this is just a blue glob of leather with  some moldy patches.

Variety
When I first saw the armor, I guessed that the shoulders and gloves fitted together as one set. Never did I presume that it would actually be something else completely. The combination of assassin's armor and whispers garb gives the armor a nice stealthy feel. Wait... wasn't this supposed to be a sea-faring pirate?

Class Adherence
While a pirate isn't usually something that I'd link to a thief, the addition of the blade stacked armor pieces make the armor pass for a stealthy rogue nonetheless.

Originality
While I'd have preferred to see an eyepatch instead of the well-known pirate's hat, with it's random ugly blindfold, I have to admit that not using the full pirate's set is more original than I'd expected from yon "Sea Wolf"

Forged Honor (Kovin Jagannath) https://www.gameskinny.com/izrgj/forged-honor-kovin-jagannath https://www.gameskinny.com/izrgj/forged-honor-kovin-jagannath Wed, 14 Aug 2013 05:59:08 -0400 igotnacho

Kovin has killed many Sons of Svanir, Corrupted Dredge and Inquest to get the materials to forge his armor. He was born a human but has always longed for the life of a norn, or dwarf. (Sadly the dwarves are all but extinct.) His favorite kind of ale is Friesson's Ale. It tastes great while he is riffing it in the shiverpeaks. Plus he knows a guy that gets it for him on the cheap.

His favorite areas of Tyria (the continent not the planet) are the cold mountain regions of Frostgorge Sound and Lornar's Pass. He greatly wishes to adventure into the Far Shiverpeaks to seek glory and loot for killing the Elder Dragon, Jormag. His chest piece keeps him warm while he trains climbing mountains and defeating Svanir's minions.

He also tests his survivability in the cold areas every once in a while since he feels his skills weaken over time in the easy child-like lands of the magumma jungle and good old ascalon.

He is well versed in all norn, dwarven, seer, and mursaat lore and seeks anything related to these topics.

He constantly seeks out greater challenges and wishes to confront them chestplate first with mace in one hand and shield in the other. He is largely a solo player but joins groups who are not easily defeated and value his loyalty and strength. Kovin is having a great time in the Queen's Pavilion currently as you can see from the photo. In fact, he is having such a good time that he feels he might not need to return to his training in Frostgorge for a long time.

  • This set is a combination of the Honor of the Waves and Sorrow's Embrace skins displayed on a human guardian.
  • Whatever helm. Kovin has his hidden in the screenshot.
  • Dredge Breastplate from SE.
  • Fused Gauntlets from Flame and Frost.
  • Fur, Paws, and Arms of Koda from HotW.

Midnight sky for the dark blue, icing for the white, sincerity for a light blue touch here and there and antique gold for the back leather on the paws.

It's a good look for next to free. just takes a lot of time.

 Strike Fear in their Hearts

Vortav Steelfur

Charr Guardian

Have you always looked at your charr and wondered how you can make him look even scarier? That generic T3 cultural lacking a bit of spunk? Hate looking the same as all the others? Well look no further, this heavy armour set for charr-only will hopefully satisfy your needs and spawn more badass looking charr around Tyria!

I always wanted charr to look beefy and tanky and all the other adjectives you'd use to describe the Charr. I found that in Guild Wars 2 the charr became an organized military-esque race and their armour began to feel a lot more "lean" to me, so I took it upon myself to make my charr look like a giant colossal beast. I had a general idea near the beginning of Guild Wars 2's release of what I wanted to look like, as I pieced together armour from other users that I saw and slowly the idea came into fruition.

The Set:

Our checklist will be pretty basic but a tad bit expensive. You're going to need...

  • A dark grey/black dye
  • A gold/yellow dye for the accents
  • A white/cream dye for the head spikes
  • 500 gems (Primeval set but we'll only need the helmet!)
  • 26g, 20s (Cultural pieces take a bit of coin!)
  • 3000 achievement points (Hellfire Vambraces are the new coolest thing!)
  • 42,000 Karma (The only heavy boots that really covered up the knees)
  • Magmaton/The Collosus (The Magmaton is a 5g look-a-like, worth the buy!)

And for the full set list, names and all!

  • Primeval Helmet
  • Warband Spaulders (T1 cultural)
  • Warband Hauberk (T1 cultural)
  • Hellfire Vambraces
  • Dreadnaught Tassets (T3 cultural)
  • Heavy Whispering Boots (or any karma boots with the same look)

With the full set, we used the Abyss dye for the primary colour for a lot of them and Redemption for the secondary colour. A lot of the accenting was done with either Celestial dye or any shade of grey. Here's a link to the dye setup if you're unsure.

If you want any more pictures feel free to ask, I'd be more than glad to serve!

This is Sky, my spoiled nobleborn guardian.

I chose this gearset for a few reasons; while I only use one-two pieces of cultural armour, I feel each and every piece combine perfectly to create a theme that matches the culture of Divinity's Reach. In addition, because I don't use more than two pieces of any given armour set (and of course, the legendary :P), I feel unique, a feeling I believe most players wish to reach in an MMO.
