Football is a situational game. Some situations call for specific tactics, while others call for entirely different strategies. Madden 22's high pass, just like the low pass, can be used whenever you'd like, but it plays a distinct role in any quarterback's game plan. Against certain defenses and particularly with mismatches, it can be deadly.

So how do you throw a high pass in Madden 22Simply hold LB/L1 and press the button of the receiver you want to throw to. Your quarterback will throw the ball up high, where only your receiver will be able to jump up and grab it. At least theoretically...

Throwing a high pass will certainly get the ball over most defensive linemen, even if they've got their hands up swatting at the ball. But for a receiver to win a high pass at higher skill levels, they must be tall and, most importantly, be in a mismatch against the defender. Certain TEs, like Travis Kelce (KC) and Kyle Pitts (ATL), are great options because of their size, physicality, and athleticism.

Depending on how quickly you want the ball to get to your intended target, you can also throw high touch, lob, and bullet passes:

  • High bullet pass: Hold LB/L1 and hold the receiver button
  • High touch pass: Hold LB/L1 and press the receiver button
  • High lob pass: Hold LB/L1 and tap the receiver button

The game will tell you what type of pass you've thrown by displaying text at the bottom of the screen.

You can throw high passes anywhere on the field, though outside of taking advantage of mismatches, they're great for deep posts and verts, especially a hail mary into the endzone. With a lot of guys fighting for the ball, throw it up and let your tallest WR/TE go up and pull it down for the score. A high pass is also good for getting the ball to a deeper receiver on crossing routes.

And that's basically all you need to know about how to throw a high pass in Madden 22. For more on the newest season of EA's perennial NFL franchise, consider heading over to our Madden 22 guides page

How to Throw a Low Pass in Madden 22 Mon, 23 Aug 2021 15:52:49 -0400 Jonathan Moore

Just as in real NFL football, there are different types of passes for different situations in Madden 22. The low pass is one of many in a quarterback's arsenal, and while it may not be used as much as the traditional bullet, lob, or touch pass, it's just as useful when used at the right time and against the right defense.

But how do you throw a low pass in Madden 22? Simply hold LT/L2 and press the button of the receiver you want to throw to. Your quarterback will throw the ball to one of your receivers at a downward angle.

It's important to know that you can throw bullet, lob, and touch low passes, just as you can throw regular and high bullet, lob, and touch passes.

  • Low bullet pass: Hold LT/L2 and hold the receiver button
  • Low touch pass: Hold LT/L2 and press the receiver button
  • Low lob pass: Hold LT/L2 and tap the receiver button

You'll know if you properly threw a low pass or not because text will show up at the bottom of the screen telling you the type of pass you threw.

The low pass in Madden 22 is great for keeping the ball out of the hands of secondary defenders; the ball is typically knee-level or below, giving only your receiver the best chance of catching it. It's not that a low pass doesn't have a chance of getting intercepted, but it's more that the chance is very low.

Low passes can get knocked down at the line of scrimmage by a swatting lineman, or even go straight into an O-lineman's helmet if thrown at the wrong time.

You can throw low passes anywhere on the field, though they're best thrown in congested areas and against man coverage, where DBs are most likely to be all over your receivers. Quick outs and curls are good options for low passes, especially in short-yardage situations.

While the low pass often means your receiver will go to the ground to catch the ball, it doesn't mean you can't gain good YAC by using it. The animation for catching a low pass sometimes sees a receiver roll on the ground, and since the NFL is a down-by-contact league, defensive players can (every once in a while) miss your receiver on the ground. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Most of the time, though, you'll use the low pass in Madden 22 to gain first downs and tough TDs, though not much more. You won't be throwing too many low pass bombs, that's for sure.

How to Throw the Ball Away in Madden 22 Sun, 22 Aug 2021 12:21:54 -0400 Jonathan Moore

No matter what passing play you pick in Madden 22, there's always the likelihood that the defense has chosen the perfect play to counter it. Whether that's a well-timed blitz or simply good coverage, you may have to throw the ball away to avoid the sack and live another day. But how do you throw the ball away in Madden 22

Just like sliding with your QB or going down with another position player, you can throw the ball away very easily in Madden 22. The input is the same for PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Series X|S. All you have to do to throw the ball away is press in the right thumbstick.

However, make sure you're outside of the tackle box/pocket before throwing the ball away. Unless there is an eligible receiver in the area, the throw will result in an intentional grounding penalty. You will not be penalized for throwing the ball away outside of the tackle box.

Jacksonville Jaguars tackle box, single back formation, versus Tennessee Titans.

Most of the time, you only really have to worry about intentional grounding on plays where receivers go up field for deep verts, deep out routes, etc. Single route plays can also be problematic. If the play you're running has a short out route (5-10 yards), you can throw the ball away to that side of the field while still in the pocket and avoid the penalty.

Additionally, you can throw the ball away while holding RT to run if you need to scramble away from a defender. Your quarterback will throw the ball toward the closest sideline.

And that's all you need to know about how to throw the ball away in Madden 22. Sometimes you'll just have to take the sack, but a well-timed throw to the sidelines can keep a drive from stalling or your quarterback from getting injured. Just remember to be aware of where you are on the field and where your eligible receivers are!

How to Stiff Arm in Madden 22 Sat, 12 Sep 2020 09:18:48 -0400 Mark Delaney

The stiff arm has long been a fan-favorite move in Madden, and it remains so in Madden 22. With the flair of a Heisman Trophy pose, a well-timed stiff arm can swat would-be tacklers away like a big brother swatting a little brother in the yard, leaving them in the dirt as you march down the sideline.

On the surface, the stiff arm is easy to pull off, but there are some tricks to using it that can make it even more powerful. If you want to learn how to stiff arm in Madden 22, you're in the right place.

Though it may be tricky learning the many different controls and button combos, the stiff arm is thankfully quite simple.

To stiff arm press:

  • "A" on Xbox One/Series X|S
  • "X" on PS4/PS5

Stiff arm when a defender is in range

Like every skill move, performing a stiff arm too early makes it easier for the defender to overcome your move, while doing so too late means you'll likely be tackled before you can even try.

Let the defender get close enough to shove them off

A stiff arm can move a defender well out of the way, and in some cases even shove them to the ground, giving you a clear path downfield for a big gain or a touchdown.

10 Best Stiff Arm Ratings in Madden 22

Every player in Madden 22, from running backs and wide receivers to QBs, is given a stiff arm rating, and these are the 10 best offensive players (OVR 90+) according to their stiff arm rating. Here they are:

  2. Davante Adams, WR, Packers (30)
  3. Stefon Diggs, WR, Bills (30)

Now that you know how to stiff arm, you can use the skill move alongside the spin and the hurdle to rack up your yards after contact. For more Madden 21 tips, be sure to head over to our guides hub.

How to Change Camera Angle in Madden 22 Thu, 23 Apr 2020 15:03:23 -0400 Jonathan Moore

Just like almost every entry before it, Madden 22 lets you change the camera angle for a better look at the action, or at least an angle that's comfortable for you as a coach.

If you're a field general, there's a chance you'll want to see the defense from multiple angles. Or, perhaps, you'd rather be up high like the SkyCam or closer to the line of scrimmage. Regardless of the reason, changing the camera angle in Madden 22 is super simple.

If you've stumbled across this guide looking for how to get better field vision in Madden 23, head over here.

Xbox controller pre-snap layout in the Madden 22 menu.

You can change the height and position of the default camera by using the D-pad. From the starting camera angle, you can:

  • Press up to get the closest view
  • Press down to get a higher, wider view
  • Press down again to get the highest, widest view
  • Press down yet again to get an angled side view

You cannot cycle through the camera angles from the very bottom and the very top from pressing down or up, respectively. You must cycle through all four of them individually.

You also cannot switch camera angles once the ball is snapped. Though four of the five camera angles are very similar, each is different enough to throw you off your game if you haven't practiced with them (especially the side-view angle).

That's all you need to know about how to change the camera angle in Madden 22. For more on the perennial football franchise, be sure to check out our other Madden 22 guides, as well as our review

How to QB Slide in Madden 22 Sun, 20 Aug 2017 19:01:10 -0400 Jonathan Moore

No matter what passing plays you call in Madden 22, you sometimes have to slide to keep your quarterback from taking a massive hit. The sliding mechanic also works with other position players, though it is a different animation. Regardless of what player you're controlling, how do you slide in Madden 22?

  • To QB slide on Xbox One/Series X|S, pass the line of scrimmage, and tap X. This works whether you're running or not. If you press or hold X, your quarterback will dive.

  • QB sliding on the PS4/PS5 is also just as simple: all you have to do is pass the line of scrimmage and tap Square. Again, don't press or hold Square, or your quarterback will dive.

  • For the sake of being exhaustive, if you're on PC and for some reason using a mouse and keyboard (shudder), E is the default sliding input.

You'll know your quarterback has made it beyond the line of scrimmage when the receiver button icons disappear. If you're running laterally and haven't gotten beyond the line of scrimmage, tapping X, Square, or E will perform a lob pass, which very well could turn into an ill-advised interception.

As mentioned above, this mechanic also works with wide receivers and running backs, though it's not technically a slide. If you tap X or Square while another position player has the ball, they'll fall down with their back to the defender. This is a good way to not only avoid taking a hit when you don't have to, but it's also good for protecting the ball

Make sure to practice the sliding or going down before trying it in a real game since tapping X and Square can be a bit fickle. Diving can cause you to accidentally fumble, and no one wants that.

To always get the action right, one trick is to double-tap the slide button to ensure you perform the action correctly; while it's not necessary to double-tap (a single tap works just fine), you're less likely to fully press the input when double-tapping since it's a different motion for your thumb.

And that's how to slide in Madden 22. If you're wondering how to throw the ball away — another great way to keep your QB safe when no one's open — head over here.
