Would you play a MOBA-style take on DOOM's multiplayer? Hell yes you would. Currently in beta, DOOMBA is the work of programmer Patrick Roeder, built entirely in DOOM's impressive-but-in-many-ways-lacking SnapMap custom map editor.

The gameplay centers around opposing teams defending their cores, which are guarded by the fat Cyber Mancubus enemy. Using an upgradable army of Hellspawn, each with four levels of powers and abilities (plus a final "Ultimate" level of great power), players must raise a forward camp and summon their assault team to bring down the Mancubus guarding the core. Once the big bruisers have been dispatched, the core must be destroyed to win the round.

While Roeder admits the SnapMap functionality is limited, the overall scale and playability of this version of the game's mulitplayer is impressive and looks like a hell of a lot of fun. Roeder says in this Kotaku article he has plans for another game type after he completes testing and rebuilds the map once more.

Full Dialogue Mod For Fallout 4 Hits Xbox One Today https://www.gameskinny.com/2tmkd/full-dialogue-mod-for-fallout-4-hits-xbox-one-today https://www.gameskinny.com/2tmkd/full-dialogue-mod-for-fallout-4-hits-xbox-one-today Tue, 31 May 2016 13:20:53 -0400 Justin White

Rejoice lovers of full dialogue! According to the official Bethesda Fallout 4 mod page, Bethesda is releasing the "Full Dialogue Mod" for Fallout 4 today, May 31, 2016 as part of their effort to release PC-based mods for the rest of the Fallout 4's Xbox One fanbase.

The mod allows players to see the full dialogue choice they are making, rather than the one note "Sarcastic; Nice Response; Question; Antagonistic" response headers Wastelanders are used to seeing. From the description on the page:

“The Full Dialogue Interface mod makes the game display the full lines of what your character is going to say in conversation, instead of just a paraphrase. It also revamps the interface so that the game will now display dialogue options in a list.”

Which comes out looking a little something like this (on the PC):

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but you can bet I will be as soon as I get home so I can start seeing whole sentences instead of breezing through the game pressing "Sarcasm" all the time.

Modder adds Fire Emblem's trust system to XCOM https://www.gameskinny.com/qq8g6/modder-adds-fire-emblems-trust-system-to-xcom https://www.gameskinny.com/qq8g6/modder-adds-fire-emblems-trust-system-to-xcom Sat, 09 Apr 2016 10:43:07 -0400 Joshua Potter

One of the biggest appeals to the series XCOM is just how easy it is to get attached to a character. It's always fun to see that nobody rookie you recruited pull off some amazing feat time and again and rise through the ranks of your army to become the biggest and baddest alien killer on the block. Modder RealityMachina had the brilliant idea of taking this attachment one step further and created a mod for the game that allows for a, "squadmate score" system that allows teammates that work well together to develop bonds that give buffs to the squadmates that trust each other, similar to Fire Emblem's Bond Support system.

Characters gain affection with one another by doing things like carrying a wounded soldier to safety, stabilizing a fallen ally, or healing a friend's wounds. After a while, the teammates gain benefits when they work together which allow for increases to damage, accuracy and other attributes.

However, since XCOM has never been a series to just hand you everything, there are also some risks involved with this process. There are penalties included should a friend fall -- such as the surviving member gaining shaken status, which will reduce their willpower stat for a period of time.

Updates like these are what make games like XCOM 2 so great. It will be interesting to see what other ideas the community has in store for us. If we're lucky, maybe we'll see a sequel to the famous mod for the first game The Long War, which even the developer's have described as, "a 20-hour tutorial for Long War."

Knights of the Old Republic fans building an Unreal Engine 4 remake https://www.gameskinny.com/q1js9/knights-of-the-old-republic-fans-building-an-unreal-engine-4-remake https://www.gameskinny.com/q1js9/knights-of-the-old-republic-fans-building-an-unreal-engine-4-remake Thu, 18 Feb 2016 03:40:58 -0500 Nick Harshman

In what has become a trend of late, yet another group of fans is attempting to recreate a classic franchise using Unreal Engine 4. In this case, we are talking about the iconic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

The project is being lead by Poem Studios, a small indie group from Atlanta who have named their creation Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron. They are planning a full remake of the original game, though they also plan on incorporating new planets, companions, and missions throughout.

The game with be free when it launches, but you have to own a copy of the original game in order for it to work, since it makes use of the original audio files.

Comparison of new and old environments

The Apeiron creators are currently not accepting any donations, though they may make the option available at a later time. Poem Studios also mentioned that they are currently accepting volunteers for the project and provided a method of contacting them if you are interested.

While the team is claiming that every thing they are doing is well within the law, EA might have a different take on the matter. Hopefully Poem Studios is allowed to keep up the work.

If you'd like to keep tabs on their progress, they'll be live streaming the development process on Twitch.

Fallout: New Vegas multiplayer mod in development https://www.gameskinny.com/rhsbv/fallout-new-vegas-multiplayer-mod-in-development https://www.gameskinny.com/rhsbv/fallout-new-vegas-multiplayer-mod-in-development Wed, 27 Jan 2016 16:38:09 -0500 Lad Johnson

Fallout: New Vegas will soon support multiplayer through a fan-made mod. New Vegas: Multiplayer will bring friends (or even foes) into the Wasteland with you. The project is still in an early state, but fans can expect more content in the coming months.

Pause the player, not the game

This ambitious mod has several key differences from the original game. A few of Fallout's key features have been removed/downgraded. Using the Pip-Boy will no longer pause the entire game world. Rather than the game pausing every few seconds while you check stats or change weapons, players accessing Pip-Boy menus will become impervious to all damage. Closing the menu should resume normal function.

More concerning is the use of VATS being completely shut off -- no more slow-motion high damage attacks. Finding a way to install VATS in the game’s final version is being discussed. For now, the feature just doesn’t match with a multiplayer game. Imagine if every raider also had VATS.

This won’t just be Fallout: New Vegas with friends

Regardless, the mod is still promising. The developers are working to give all players an equal amount of influence. The decisions of one player can affect everyone. Killing or pick-pocketing an NPC will have lasting effects for story progression -- you can fail a quest you never started. The developers went on Reddit to discuss this:

The way it works currently is that quests are clientside, they still take place in the world but one player in a location will synchronise entities/NPCs to other players around them. This means that if you entered an area where a quest NPC should be, and someone has previously killed them in the cell (whilst someone is currently in it with you), then you will fail the quest on entry.

Most fans are still lost in the tizzy that was last year’s Fallout 4. This isn’t such a bad way to breathe life into a six-year-old game. Some players will be able to experience the fun sooner than others. Signups for a beta test are available on the developer's official website.

Fallout 4 modders turn the Wasteland into the Borderlands https://www.gameskinny.com/f9flu/fallout-4-modders-turn-the-wasteland-into-the-borderlands https://www.gameskinny.com/f9flu/fallout-4-modders-turn-the-wasteland-into-the-borderlands Mon, 11 Jan 2016 05:59:18 -0500 David Fisher

Fallout 4 has been out for about 2 months now, and whether you're on the "Fallout 4 is the best game in history" or the "Fallout 4 is a disgrace to the series" side of things, you're probably looking for the next mod to enhance the game. If, by chance, you are also a fan of Telltale Games' Walking Dead or Gearbox Software's Borderlands series, then you probably like the art style of those games. If that's the case, then you just might be in luck. By using the ENB SweetFX injector, fans have successfully tweaked Fallout 4's settings to create something similar to a cell-shaded game!

By changing the way the game renders graphics, fans have managed to recreate a style similar to that of the Borderlands series. However, the results may vary depending on the models and textures used in an area...

As seen in the image above, the models have been successfully changed in such a way that the game highlights characters and objects with a fine black line. While the results aren't always perfect, it does create a somewhat cartoon-ish effect. To say that they are on the same level of games that are made in a cell-shaded style might be a tad extreme though, since character models won't be sporting outlines on their facial structure or any other highly detailed areas.

City areas such as Goodneighbor (seen above) do look different from their standard appearance, however, the effect isn't nearly as drastic as it is with models that have flatter textures.

It should be noted that anyone who wants to try this for themselves can do so by using the ReShade tool found here. The SweetFX wordpress page also gives you some examples of what maximising (or minimizing) various settings actually produces. The results are surprising since it isn't just a simple matter of cranking the cartoon settings to maximum.

With just the right tweaks, the game can pull off something that looks like it was ripped right out of Borderlands (as seen above).

The ReShade tool can also be used on more games than just Fallout 4. If your life goal is to play every game out there in a Borderlands art style, then feel free to go all out. You can find a list of compatible games on the tool's website or by following this direct link.

Remember: this is a PC mod. You cannot do this on console versions of the game. Also, it is not recommended to use injector tools like ReShade on multiplayer games. They are typically treated as hacking or cheating tools (as they arguably help a player get an advantage in seeing opponents) and so you will likely get banned.

What do you think of this tool? Are any of you tempted to use it? What games would you like to use ReShade on? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

Smash Bros. Project M development officially ends https://www.gameskinny.com/u9l2y/smash-bros-project-m-development-officially-ends https://www.gameskinny.com/u9l2y/smash-bros-project-m-development-officially-ends Wed, 02 Dec 2015 05:20:29 -0500 David Fisher

A beloved fan mod that started development in 2010, Project M, officially meets its end after nearly 6 years of updates.

Project M has been seen as the spiritual successor to Super Smash Bros. Melee after the Nintendo release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl failed to cater to fans' expectations. Project M sought to bring back core gameplay elements from Melee while simultaneously changing up characters so that they would be more diverse than in the original games. The mod also re-added characters from Melee such as Dr. Mario, Mewtwo, and Roy.

Project M tried its best to balance characters across the board, changing the gameplay of certain characters such as Roy, Ganondorf, and the Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon to better suit competitive gameplay.

While it is unclear exactly why they stopped development, in an official statement found on the Project M website the development team said the following:

We’ve learned so much in the process of making Project M—accumulating life-changing lessons in communication, team work, professionalism, work ethic, and more—but there’s only so far we can take those skills in a volunteer project. With this in mind, we’ve made a difficult business decision: We’re ready to finish development here and move on to bigger and better ventures.

We realize that this will come as a shock to many of our fans. Please, forgive us. Again, it’s been an excruciating call to make, but it’s been made a bit easier by our satisfaction with the previous and final release, v3.6. We’ve spent six years polishing Project M, and rather than let it drag on through another several years of dwindling development and change-fatigue in the competitive circle, we’re going to consider our work complete.

In the meantime, we plan to be hard at work on new projects, built from the ground up. We can’t spill the beans just yet, but know that we’re looking towards a fresh start with brand new designs. Rather than splitting our focus, many of us want to dedicate ourselves to this new venture fully. In this way, we hope to maintain the level of quality and professionalism you’ve come to expect from us.

- Project M Development Team

Surprisingly, Project M was never shut down by Nintendo. In fact, Project M was so grossly popular that even e-sports groups slowly allowed the mod to be played in tournament environments. I suppose the developers believe that the final version of the mod is as close to their goal as they can get, and for that I respect their decision.

Hopefully, we see more content from the Project M team in the future. While I doubt we will ever hear about another Project M update, perhaps we might see a mod for the current Super Smash Bros. games? Or maybe the team will develop an entirely new game that stands alone and doesn't use Nintendo characters? Only time will tell I suppose...

Did you guys ever play Project M? Are you saddened by the end of its development? What do you think the development team will have in store for the future? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

GTA V mod adds 4K textures; the results are amazing https://www.gameskinny.com/5a9ix/gta-v-mod-adds-4k-textures-the-results-are-amazing https://www.gameskinny.com/5a9ix/gta-v-mod-adds-4k-textures-the-results-are-amazing Tue, 01 Dec 2015 16:26:55 -0500 mrivera269

A new mod for GTA V, The Pinnacle of V – World Enhancement Project” by Josh Romito, has transcended the graphics of GTA V. This mod is much more than a simple slider tweak and shader enhancement -- it's a full 4K overhaul. It adds new lighting, weather, and smaller improvements such as smoke effects to footprint duration. Along with these improvements are all-new textures, done by Josh with the help of other modders, all in 4K resolution ranging from clouds, water, blood, plants, and grass.

The mod does more than just make the game visually pleasing as well, it also changes some gameplay mechanics. For example, car handling has been completely reworked to provide “realistic deformation, top speeds, weight, handling, crash physics, avoidance control, AI control, and more!” Other changes have been made to NPC relationships, populations, and weapons.

Be prepared to have an increase in system requirements if you’re intending to play this mod. If you’re barely pushing 30FPS on your PC, you will not be able to run this mod. So know that you’ll need a high-end rig to experience the 4K textures in all its glory.

What do you guys think of this mod? Are you excited to see a new fresh coat of paint on GTA V? What other games would you like to see modders bring 4K textures to? Fallout 4 *cough* *cough*

Square Enix promotes Deus Ex fan-made mod https://www.gameskinny.com/jhl2e/square-enix-promotes-deus-ex-fan-made-mod https://www.gameskinny.com/jhl2e/square-enix-promotes-deus-ex-fan-made-mod Sat, 17 Oct 2015 06:45:33 -0400 KaosuDrake

Deus Ex is one of Square Enix’s biggest games, along with Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts. Most fan-made creations that are based on Square Enix games get shut down merely days after launching to the public. But everyone is surprised that a fan-made mod, "Revision", is still playable for Deus Ex

The developers of "Revision" commented on how they made this happen:

“All of this lead us to feel extremely cautious- we want to ensure that when we release, there are no potential landmines waiting for us. So we approached Square Enix with the intent of making sure that everything we had planned was going to be fine. They’ve been very helpful and supportive; the processes has gone on longer than anyone anticipated, and we’re taking advantage of the time to implement little fixes and bits of polish that were otherwise slated for the 1.1 update.

On the one hand, we would love to get Revision out the door ASAP. On the other, we’re committed to making sure that we can release it and maintain it in the best possible way, and with as few stumbles as possible.”

It’s a surprise that Square Enix is not only allowing the fan-mod to be published, they are even promoting it. So why is Square Enix being more helpful to this fan-made creation than it has the others in the past? Maybe it’s because at Square Enix, they have an ‘ask them first policy’. If you want to use their content, you should ask first before creating anything, and maybe, just maybe, Square Enix will end up supporting your venture.

Whatever the reason may be, Revision is a phenomenal mod. It doesn't just update the graphics of the 2000 Deus Ex, but also improves the AI, fixes bugs, and even rebalances the game. This should make the game worth going back to and trying out, since the mod is free on Steam. Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition is only $6.99, too. So even if you don't have the game, now is a good time to buy. And with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided releasing on February 23, 2016, it would be a nice way to get into the game series.

Splatoon is being overrun by Octolings in new exploit https://www.gameskinny.com/amua3/splatoon-is-being-overrun-by-octolings-in-new-exploit https://www.gameskinny.com/amua3/splatoon-is-being-overrun-by-octolings-in-new-exploit Thu, 01 Oct 2015 08:57:31 -0400 Steven Troya

Hackers have finally made video game characters, namely the enemies known as Octolings in Splatoon, an actual threat.

This Octoling exploit has been made public to the players of Splatoon. It's actually really simple. All you need to do is edit the save file of your Splatoon game and boom, you can play as an Octoling. Of course, there are some consequences to those you play with if you turn into an Octoling.

First of all, if you find an Octoling online, you should probably keep playing until they leave that lobby or else, you'll risk getting that Octoling in your plaza. What's so bad about this? Well, unless you want an unplayable game, then it's best to avoid getting one in your plaza.

Currently, no patches have been announced for Splatoon but it's only a matter of time. As for now, the best thing to do when you find an Octoling is to keep playing until they leave and then play one more match after that.

If you did suffer an Octoling takeover, then it is also being said that Splatfest will probably fix this issue since they remove every Inkling during the event.

Fans of the Starcraft II parody series Starcrafts and Blizzard Entertainment's original Starcraft: Brood War game will be excited to know that Carbot Animations has officially announced Starcrafts: Brood Wars. This new mini-season will last 7 episodes with a Back to the Future theme, starting on September 5th, 2015.

For those who don't know, Carbot Animations has been creating animations based upon the popular Blizzard game Starcraft II since 2012. Each sitcom-styled episode depicts cute stylized verisons of in-game units to spoof common strategies and mechanics used in Starcraft II competitive play. Since its origins, Carbot Animations has branched out into other Blizzard titles such as Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft, and Diablo III. The animator has also had a successful Indiegogo campaign that will allow him to star his lovable cartoon characters into a Starcraft II mod.

Those who would like to watch the Starcrafts series - or other Carbot Annimations spoofs - can find it on Carbot's official Youtube channel. Others who are interested in the cartoonified Starcraft II: Starcrafts Mod can find more information here.

This question goes out to the Starcrafts fans: what Starcraft: Brood War situations would you love to see parodied in Starcrafts: Brood Wars? Leave your opinions in the comments section below!

Play as Alfred mod: take the butler to the streets of Gotham in Batman: Arkham Knight https://www.gameskinny.com/1txsw/play-as-alfred-mod-take-the-butler-to-the-streets-of-gotham-in-batman-arkham-knight https://www.gameskinny.com/1txsw/play-as-alfred-mod-take-the-butler-to-the-streets-of-gotham-in-batman-arkham-knight Mon, 03 Aug 2015 11:15:24 -0400 Callum Wiggins

Warning: The following video contains spoilers and side quests from Batman: Arkham Knight, so watch at your own discretion.

While the PC edition of Batman: Arkham Knight was not exactly met with the most favorable response, some hard working modders on the platform have introduced some fun additions to the game. This one featured here might be the pick of the bunch, as you are given the opportunity to really clean up crime.. by playing as the Caped Crusader's loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth.

The game itself in its original form allows the player to traverse the gritty city of Gotham with a broad range of characters from its comic book universe. Of course, Batman is the main protagonist, but a selection of his allies, acquaintances and rivals were also able to be taken control of. Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman and even the Joker are available for the player.

But in spite of this wide selection, it is great to see the beloved and often beleaguered butler take the fight to all the supervillains that have used him as a pawn to get to his cherished ward. And as this video from YouTube channel Batman Arkham Videos demonstrates, he clearly has been following Bruce Wayne's workout regime in his spare time.

While this Alfred cannot perform counter punches or environmental takedowns, it is safe to say that villains of Gotham would not like to cross his path in a dark alley. He even gets to enjoy a kiss from Catwoman. Hey, why should Batman have all the fun?

So, check out the above video, and maybe one day Bruce can stay home to do the ironing, while The Bat-ler can sweep up crime in his stead.

Tired of waiting for Conversion? Dying to die in the name of Aperture Science? You can satisfy your craving for physics-based wormhole puzzles right now with Prism Studios' Portal Stories: Mel.

Mel is a free, community-made Portal 2 mod, set in the same universe and expanding the storyline between the series' two main installments. After being recruited to test a Relaxation Vault prototype back in 1952, Mel wakes up in an uncertain future to find Aperture Science deserted and crumbling. A guide masquerading as Cave Johnson begins to lead her to the surface, giving her a Handheld Portal Device and telling her that they'll need to work together if they want to escape.

Besides its titular silent protagonist, Mel introduces two brand new characters, complete with rich voice acting and fully-fleshed out personalities, as far as artificial intelligence goes. Virgil is a simple maintenence core who strikes up an unlikely partnership with Mel. Stationed in their way is AEGIS (the Aperture Employee Guardian and Intrusion System), a security mainframe that recently came online after years of dormancy, bent on snuffing out Mel and any others he deems threatening to the long-dead scientists.

Virgil in Portal Stories: Mel.

This labor of love has been in the works for over 4 years now, during which developers painstakingly crafted 22 levels that feel fresh and innovative while still feeling right at home within the Portal and extended Half-Life universe. While you'll need Portal 2 on Steam for Mel to work, the mod itself is absolutely free. Instead of donations for their time and effort, the developers are instead asking players to donate to Extra Life and Child's Play, two charities setting out to help children in need.

Portal Stories: Mel is available now on Steam!

Cute But Deadly: Carbot Animations Crowdfunding "StarCrafts" SC2 Arcade Mod https://www.gameskinny.com/wkm31/cute-but-deadly-carbot-animations-crowdfunding-starcrafts-sc2-arcade-mod https://www.gameskinny.com/wkm31/cute-but-deadly-carbot-animations-crowdfunding-starcrafts-sc2-arcade-mod Sun, 31 May 2015 08:05:14 -0400 CallSignDriver

Visual overhaul mods are really cool. There's a mod that makes Starcraft II look like a new installment in the Warcraft series. There's a mod that makes Watch_Dogs look... well... the way it was supposed to look. And now, there's a mod on the horizon that makes Starcraft II look and feel like something out of a Newgrounds cartoon, and I think that's pretty awesome.

StarCrafts is an animated YouTube series by Jonathan Burton of Carbot Animations, whose artistic style is akin to something out of a Dan Paladin flash game (his zerglings remind me of Alien Hominid). The goal of "the Starcrafts mod" is to bring that art style to the game, converting all of the game's assets to match the theme of the cartoon.

Making a mod of this scale, however, will be no simple task. To replace the game's 3D assets with 2D art, Burton will have to design new sprites to overlay over each of the game's structures and units, drawing every frame by hand. To accomplish this task, Carbot Animations has taken to IndieGogo in order to crowdfund the project. Once completed, "the Starcrafts mod" will be available for free in the SC2 arcade.

For more information, and to support Carbot Animations, please check out the IndieGogo page.

Those of you who are big fans of Grand Theft Auto IV and modding on PC are probably already in the know about iCEnhancer. For you guys, the good news is a similar mod is being developed for Grand Theft Auto V! For those who aren't familiar with the iCEnhancer mod, have no fear. It's a good thing.

The iCEnhancer was a mod developed by Hayssam Keilany for GTA IV's Liberty City on PC. The mod pretty much did what it's name says - it enhanced the graphics of the game. Through his Facebook page for that mod, Keilany announced that he was currently working on the Timecycle, a similar mod for GTA V's Los Santos.

The mod is still in its early stages of development. It is going to remove the noise during weapon changing and player transition as well as cut down on the fog, make the background more clear, change the sun to a more neutral color (less brown), change the water and remove post-effects for the characters.

Players will also be able to control the changes they make in order to fit their personal style of gaming.

No release date has been set yet for this mod.

Rockstar and modding

Rumors after the PC patch 350.1 had let out that Rockstar was banning players who were using single-player modsThe publisher has released a statement saying that this is false, they will be banning no one, and it was "an unintended side effect." Because mods are usually unauthorized, they can sometimes be accidentally broken, rendered unstable or affect gameplay after technical updates.

Bonus! -- Mass Effect: Unification -- Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Mod

\n

"What's this? Mass Effect? But I thought this was a Star Wars slideshow?" No worries, it still is, just this is one little bonus mod for fans of both Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Bioware's own science fiction universe. The total conversion mod Mass Effect: Unification turns Battlefront 2's PC port into a warzone for Geth, Alliance Troops, Collectors, and more. It's still being semi-actively worked on with more factions and maps on the way. To download, just stop by the mod's ModDB page.

\n

That said, don't let this list be your only time with Star Wars mods. I was torn between so many other choices out there that you should totally explore. The Battlefront modding community has a staggering amount of content beyond the two mods mentioned, including some crazy levels for the original game that brought in Heroes mode and a few custom single-player levels that outdo anything Pandemic themselves created.

\n

The Jedi Knight community has its own lengthy archive of mods, reskins, and multiple lightsaber combat upgrades to intensify the strategy and skill to dueling. There's even been an effort to remake the original Dark Forces game in the new engine. And there's the Movie Duels mod that remakes scenes from the core trilogy.

\n

There are some other Star Wars games like Empire at War, X-Wing Alliance, and Galactic Battlegrounds with their own great mods and communities as well, with far too many notable choices to pick from. Halo Star Wars -- Halo: Custom Edition Mod

\n

Halo: Custom Edition fans who also like Star Wars are also in for a treat with Halo Star Wars, a full conversion map set in space. Two Star Destroyers host the ground battle in their interiors whilst players battle with X-Wings, Tie Fighters, and a fully explorable and pilotable Millennium Falcon. There's even an R2 unit available as a vehicle to fly around in, and several weapons from the Galactic Civil War era.

\n

While definitely one of the odder mods, it is notable because of just how much effort had to be made to make Star Wars work within the Halo: Combat Evolved engine. As a series inspired more by Aliens than Dash Gordon, pulling off a successfully homage is quite impressive.

The Sith Lords: Restored Content Modification -- Knights of the Old Republic 2 Mod

\n

I don't think any other mod on this list has had as troubled and manic a development cycle as Restored Content. You see, Knights of the Old Republic 2 was forced out by Lucas Arts way before it was supposed to. Originally, Obsidian had much grander plans, but they had to release a game that was only three fifths finished (at best) and with an entire planet and more cut.

\n

However, several mod teams over time have managed to not only restore the planet, but a vast majority of the game's ending. For the first time, players can see Knights of the Old Republic 2 as it was intended, not as it released. While the core game itself is not drastically changed, it offers a great deal more closure and clarity on the events that transpired. The mod is so thorough and well executed that it even won an award from ModDB.

\n

You can download the mod and experience Obsidian's pathos filled epic properly, right here.

The Battle of Yavin -- Fan Game

\n

The Battle of Yavin, one of two fan games by Bruno R. Marcos, is a rare treat. It's a simple arcade flight sim, but offers the chance to see if you can destroy the Deathstar. As the Rebel reinforcements deplete rapidly, you eventually become the lone pilot, and it can be a nerve-wracking, yet rewarding experience. It's like a mix of X-Wing and Contra.

\n

You can download the game from Game Jolt. For those who complete it or prefer Return of the Jedi, Marcos' second Star Wars fan game is the same core gameplay but during the Battle of Endor.

Star Wars: First Strike -- Battlefield 2142 Mod

\n

Arguably one of the longest living fan multiplayer mods, First Strike takes DICE's Battlefield 2142 and turns it into galactic warfare. Unlike a lot of mods and fan projects, the developers have passed version 1.6 and are only stopping to participate in a new fan project (which you should also keep an eye on), Star Wars: Battlecry. They've supported their community and have hosted several special campaign events for players to fight for supremacy.

\n

The game may not look the prettiest, but it contains a vast amount of content for players. There's single-player, co-op, and multiplayer modes, along with a full progression system and both space and ground combat maps. Really, if you have a copy of Battlefield 2142 lying around, you owe it to yourself to at least try this once.

\n

If any of that piques your interest, be sure to grab the mod's latest installer here.

The Force Unleashed II: Evolution -- The Force Unleashed II Mod

\n

The Force Unleashed II is a criminally short game, and that's a pity since the gameplay is genuinely solid. Now though, with the lower price and one man having finally cracked how to mod the game, there's incentive to snatch it up on PC.

\n

With numerous new challenges, weapon stances, and assets from the cut PC version of the Endor DLC campaign, you can finally get something far closer to the experience the game should have offered. You can snag SWTFU II Evolution mod in it's Alpha form here.

\n

But of course, no new and improved Force Unleashed experienced would be complete without all the character skins from the last game, plus new ones, and multiple weapons to choose from. You can also find a mod that unlocks them on ModDB.

The Brotherhood of Solomon: Solomon's Revenge -- Knights of the Old Republic Mod

\n

One of the truly greatest Star Wars mods, The Brotherhood of Solomon: Solomon's Revenge. This mod is practically a fully-fledged expansion pack for Knights of the Old Republic. You get new companions, new enemies, new worlds to explore, and more -- all with multiple voice actors bringing life to the story when other mods would just have subtitles. It's a massive project and one of the most ambitious ones out there.

\n

Did I mention it also perfectly integrates into the main storyline, taking place after your first confrontation with Malak? The original Knights of the Old Republic already featured a rather lengthy campaign, but for fans wanting more in their next run, nothing really beats Solomon's Revenge.

Dark Times II: Rising Son -- Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Mod

\n

What is this madness? Starkiller from The Force Unleashed in Star Wars: Battlefront 2? A full new single-player campaign with a branching trail and numerous new units to unlock along the way? Multiplayer support for the new maps and units as well? Tons of rebalancing, including brand new classes and abilities? Why it's none other than the Dark Times II: Rising Son mod.

\n

Yes, it genuinely has a main campaign (played in the game's Conquest mode) with branching side objectives. It also does its best to bring the Dark Times era to Star Wars: Battlefront II, stretching the combat and mechanics to the brink. New powers from The Force Unleashed also make the jump despite the game being technically an entire generation older. Just bear in mind that to compensate for this, the game's AI and combat is also much less forgiving. Consider it a warm up for the battles ahead.

\n

You can grab this one on here.

Star Wars: Conquest -- Mount & Blade Mod

\n

Speaking of a galaxy far, far away --  did you know there's a mod called Star Wars: Conquest? It takes Mount & Blade and converts the entire historical setting into a Star Wars sandbox the likes of which Lucas Arts never provided. You can become a Jedi, a Rebel, an Imperial, a droid, and whatever else pleases you. All the core gameplay of Mount & Blade remains, along with blaster combat and vehicles.

\n

Arguably, the combat is still very Mount & Blade (love it or hate it), but the attention to detail is sound. Also, nothing beats defeating Grand Moff Tarkin with a massive army of Jawas, while charging on a speeder bike as a droid Jedi. Here's a link to the game's ModDB page.

Star Wars Mod: Galactic Warfare -- Call of Duty 4 Mod

\n

A long time ago in the Call of Duty that started the trend of modern military shooters there's a mod that converts the online experience into a full Star Wars battleground. The mod converts the traditional Call of Duty 4 gameplay into a Star Wars experience, including maps on Bespin and Tatooine. A few additional maps and content updates have actually been released since version 1.0, and there are two servers to connect to if you're looking for players:

\n

213.133.110.38:27000 -- Africa
208.167.250.217:28960 -- USA

Galactic Warfare has what every reflex shooter Star Wars fan wants. You can grab it and start shooting all those scruffy looking nerf herders on ModDB.

Deleted Scenes from Halo 3 and Cut Mode from Halo: Reach Revealed https://www.gameskinny.com/xejiw/deleted-scenes-from-halo-3-and-cut-mode-from-halo-reach-revealed https://www.gameskinny.com/xejiw/deleted-scenes-from-halo-3-and-cut-mode-from-halo-reach-revealed Wed, 18 Mar 2015 10:45:39 -0400 Elijah Beahm

It's been nearly a decade since Halo 3 released on the Xbox 360, but it seems Bungie's final "core" entry in the franchise still has a few more surprises for us. YouTuber Gamecheat 13 has found (shown above) deleted scenes from the game's campaign mode. Some bits got reworked, and others dropped entirely, but it is fascinating getting to see a glimpse of what the game evolved from.

On top of this, Gamecheat 13 has found other cut pieces of content, including the cut space combat Sabre Slayer mode from Halo: Reach, and additional cut dialogue from Halo 3.

Bungie had previously spoken of this mode, mentioning that they had tested it, but never actually included it in the game. Seeing it for the first time is quite interesting. That said it does look like, in its current state, it was a bit repetitive.

It's been a great week for people finding cut content. First, more footage of Free Radical's Star Wars: Battlefront 3 and now we get some from Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.

10. Ak-47 Redline

\n

We're going to end the list with something we haven't featured at all yet, a weapon.

\n

The redline skin is one of the most popular series in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and now you can use it in Garry's Mod thanks to this add-on.

\n

Have you ever wanted to see the spy from Team Fortress 2 running around with one of these bad boys? Now you can make it happen.

9. Body and Loot Bags from Payday 2

\n

Need a place to hide all of those bodies you've been accumulating while playing Garry's Mod this year? Then check out this add-on.

\n

Pulled straight from the game, these body and loot bags look legit and make for the perfect props for any sort of bank robbery scene.

8. Kenny

\n

How many times have you yelled, "Oh my God, they killed Kenny!", in a minute?

\n

Probably not too many, unless you've already downloaded this Garry's Mod add-on.This player model is guaranteed to give any South Park fan a great time.

\n

Even though the quality of the texture isn't the best, it does take its queues from rough, almost unfinished look of the cartoon.

\n

Basically, this is a must download add-on for any South Park fan.

7. Batman Beyond

\n

What better way to follow up a Joker player model for Garry's Mod than with a Batman Beyond player model add-on?

\n

As far as models go, it does run a bit skinny, as do most Garry's Mod models, but apart from that, it captures the look of the cartoon very well. The glowing eyes and the spiky arms along with the red bat logo on the chest completes the Batman Beyond look, and make you feel like you're playing with The Dark Knight.

6. The Joker from Arkham Origins

\n

Bringing characters together in one scene from tons of different games is one of the best things about Garry's Mod, and high-quality player models from the Steam workshop like this one of The Joker make it easy to do just that.

\n

Modder Bobert has done a great job bringing over models from Injustice: Gods Among Us, but this one is probably his best. If you are into the D.C. comics universe and Garry's Mod, his page could be your new favorite bookmark.

5. Zer0 Assassin

\n

This player model with two skins (one based on the original model in Borderlands 2, and one with a custom color scheme), makes for a great Garry's Mod add-on.

\n

The add-on even comes with the swords from its original games for slicing and dicing some virtual vegetables, or other players, whatever floats your boat.

\n

The only thing missing from this Garry's Mod add-on are the humorous haikus that he recites in Borderlands 2.

4. Big Boss

\n

Metal Gear Solid V isn't quite brand new, but this player model for Garry's Mod is.

\n

Released in mid-January of 2015, this Big Boss skin lets Garry's Mod players create their own Metal Gear adventures.

\n

With three different high-quality textures, this add-on is easily one of the best on the Steam workshop, and is a must have for any Metal Gear fan.

3. Left Shark

\n

Ah, the meme that brought in 2015. Everyone was talking about the left shark from Katy Perry's Super Bowl halftime performance. So what better way to commemorate him than running around blowing stuff up in Garry's Mod?

\n

The player model fully captures the cuteness that captivated the Internet while remaining pretty functional, which is a huge feat.

\n

With this model, I think it's only a matter of time until a Garry's Mod halftime show video reenactment surfaces.

2. GTA V Cars

\n

GTA V might have come out last year, but this add-on for Garry's Mod came out in 2015, it features some beautifully textured cars that look like they drove straight out of San Andreas into the sandbox.

\n

Whether you are blowing them up or racing them, these cars are a lot of fun and make for a great add-on in Garry's Mod.

1. Portal Gun

\n

This gun perfectly replicates the gun players use in Portal, and doesn't even require that Garry's Mod players own either of the games that it emulates to use.

\n

There have been other attempts at this, but none of them has quite grasped the magic of that first time you jumped into that blue circle and came out in the orange.

\n

Not only does this add-on capture the feel of the original game, but it also looks pretty close to the original, earning it a spot at the top of this list.

Garry's Mod is a game centered around, you guessed it, mods.

\n

Built on Valve's Source engine and originally coming out as a mod for Half-Life 2, the game gives players full creative control over everything in the game's universe. Garry's Mod lets players do anything they want in its sandbox with a ton of premade materials and game modes.

\n

It also lets them put virtually anything they create or download into the game. With so many people playing and creating for Garry's Mod, it can be hard to keep track of the best add-ons for the game. So, here is a rundown of the ten best Garry's Mod add-ons to download in 2015.

1) The Nintendo DS Guitar Hero Guitar

\n

Who says playing Guitar Hero on the Nintendo DS is boring?! This guy must have thought the same thing because he came up with a way to connect a full-size Guitar Hero Guitar Controller with a Nintendo DS. He replaced the strum with the Nintendo DS, since the touchpad is the strum. He also included a way to channel the game's audio into his home theater system! Now if that isn't a cool way to enhance gameplay between the console, the controller and the player, then what is?

3) The Ghostbusters Nintendo Wii Remote

\n

It's a custom-designed Wii remote that's ideal for any die-hard Ghostbusters fan. And the best part is that it's fully-functional! At first glance, it appears to be quite useless. But in the video, you can see that it's clearly designed to match a pair of goggles and a replica Ghostbusters Proton Pack to make the Wii experience so much better.

4) The One-Handed Xbox 360 Controller

\n

This is a great idea and all, but the joystick down on the bottom of the controller looks too strenuous for the average gamer. However, this is an innovative approach to providing the joy of gaming to those with disabilities. This idea can potentially revolutionize the video game console industry as a whole. Disabled gamers need gaming love, too.

5) The Hemp Wii Remote

\n

Whatever you do, don't get this controller near flames or your gaming capabilities might be temporarily impaired. This Wii Remote and Nunchuk are wrapped in hemp, a very useful, versatile (and sometimes controversial) plant. Donkey Kong would definitely use this controller if he were a gamer! It screams environmentally-friendly. This controller would be great for environment-conscious gamers. Too bad gaming requires electricity.

1) Super Genintari by Richard DaLuz
\n

This ultimate piece of epic gaming equipment is all a retro gamer needs to have a good time. It's a four-way combination of the Atari 2600, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and the Sega Genesis. And the best part is that this creation used to be something else entirely! Take a look at the video to find out what Richard DaLuz used to make this one of a kind console.

2) NES Purse by Jeri Ellsworth
\n

This one is strictly for the lady gamers! Jeri Ellsworth, also known as Circuit Girl, took a regular, old NES system and morphed it into this really snazzy, portable NES purse! For those female gamers out there who have a love for video games and purses, your gamer prayers have been answered! If you're waiting in line somewhere for a while (the DMV, perhaps), this Nintendo Purse would really come in handy.

3) Haze PlayStation 3 by Butterkneter
\n

This has to be the best themed console mod I've come across during my research. Since the game Haze didn't do so well (IGN gave Haze a 4.5 out of 10), this slide is mainly for the detail that went into the making of this console's epic transformation. Butterkneter, a German artist, made this console especially for Ubisoft's game. Butterkneter has also made a bunch of other game console mods and can be found on his official website.

4) Halo Xbox 360 by Craget
\n

This is an epic homage to both the Xbox console and the Halo game series, to say the least. It's a detailed Halo-themed Xbox 360 complete with rocks, moss, and collector's edition figurines who are hunting one another. All Halo fans would love to have a great console like this! Craget is a talented and creative modder, indeed. Too bad consoles don't come like this when we buy them! They should since they're so expensive.

5) Handheld Nintendo 64 by Ben Heck
\n

It's a handheld Nintendo 64 (N64)! Designed by modder Ben Heck, this system features all the buttons you need to play any N64 game - minus the directional pad (D-pad) from the original console's controller. Heck mentioned on his site that this particular project was hard for him to make, but he managed to complete it and is able to play it! Job well done.

6) Super Nintendo Entertainment Portable (SNEP) by Kotomi
\n

It looks like a Gameboy Advance, but it's not. It's a handheld version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System designed by Kotomi, a French artist who loves modifying game consoles. His blog showcases his extensive projects and past work. Unfortunately, the blog's dates range from November 2005 to June 2009, but that doesn't make this new spin on an old console any less amazing.

7) PlayStation 2 (PS2) Portable by Ben Heck
\n

Ben Heck is one extremely talented individual to have made a portable version of the PlayStation 2! It's the whole system in a smaller format, but it does appear to be pretty bulky. That must be part of the reason why Sony created the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation Vita (PS Vita)! Heck goes into great detail on his website about how he transformed one console into a physically new one. It doesn't sound like an easy task, but the outcome looks impressive.

8) The Steampunk GameBoy by Kyle Robinson
\n

Another themed console like the Zelda NES, this original GameBoy looks like it can run off of steam - but it can't. With small gears, wires and pipes, this console has been modified for the Steampunk fans. It could pass as a limited edition Steampunk GameBoy! It'd probably sell for a pretty penny. Too bad it can't run on steam...

9) Legend of Zelda NES by Vadu Amka
\n

Belgian artist Vadu Amka revamped a regular, old Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) to look like a limited edition game console for The Legend of Zelda. The console resembles a treasure chest and features a shield featuring things like a heart, which are most important in-game. This is ideal for those hard-core Zelda fans, like the late, great Robin Williams, who named his daughter after the princess.

10) Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 PlayStation 3 by Jriquelme
\n

If you're a fan of Black Ops 2, then you're a fan of this console mod. Complete with red-orange LED lighting and the game's logo, this console is every Call of Duty fan's dream come true. It appears to be a fairly simple modification since everything looks changed only on the surface, but it still is a very nice mod. Now all that's needed is a matching headset.
