Most of World of Warcraft mounts, air or ground based, serve for only one purpose: MOVING AROUND FASTER! In the majority of cases, the only difference is their looks, price and rarity.

However, there are couple mounts in Azeroth that offer you something a little more special, than just increased movement speed. In this list we will look at such mounts and tell you how you can get your hands on them!

#4 Flying passenger mount

While there is a hand full of passenger mounts in WoW, only two of these are flying mounts. Flying passenger mounts can be useful for many reasons:

  • Helping out a friend who is under level 60.
  • Flying large distances with a friend, who hasn't bought Artisan and/or Master riding skill (Therefore is much slower than you)
  • Flying your friend around Draenor, who is yet to get the Draenor exploration achievement

These mounts are:

Sandstone Drake

Sandstone Drake can be acquired by studying a Vial of Sands. You can get Vial of Sands by either buying one on the AH (the price fluctuates anywhere from 35k to 50k gold) or by making one yourself.

To make the Vial of Sands, you will need to get the Vial of Sands Recipe, which can be found in Canopic Jars, that are gathered from the Archeology skill. Once you have found the Recipe, you can use your Alchemy skill (525 required) to make: Pyrium-Laced Crystalline VialSands of Time (8), Truegold (12), Flask of the Winds (8),Flask of Titanic Strength (8), Deepstone Oil (8) into one Vial of Sands.

X-53 Touring Rocket

The X-53 Touring Rocket can be acquired only from the "Recruit-a-Friend" system. If you invite a friend, and he proceeds to purchase at least one months of subscription, you are given a choice between 8 different rewards, one of those rewards is the X-53 Touring Rocket!

#3 The only level 1 mount

Chauffeured Chopper

The Chauffeured Chopper is the only mount that can be summoned at level 1. This mount is unlocked when you have collected 35 or more different heirlooms. This means, that you can get this mount for 17’000 gold, if you buy 35 heirlooms for 500 gold.

60% movement speed mount at level 1, grants a huge advantage when leveling 1-20. However, once you have reached level 40, this mount becomes useless, as it is capped to 60% even with master riding learned!

#2 Water walking mounts

Waterstriders are mounts that grant Water Walking when summoned, however just like other water walking effects, the effect is disabled on damage.

While there are some classes that can walk on water with certain spells, most classes are not capable of walking on water. When flying is not an option, crossing large watered areas can be a real pain unless you have one of these!!

There are 2 different Waterstriders:

Reins of the Crimson Water Strider
Reins of the Azure Water Strider

The Azure Water Strider is sold by Nat Pagle  for 5000 gold. To buy the mount, you need to be exalted with The Anglers.

The Crimson Water Strider is sold by Nat Pagle for 100 of Nat's Lucky Coins, which can be collected by fishing.

#1 Vendor mounts

Vendor mounts are by far the most useful mounts in WoW! If you happen to be farming items or just leveling up with Quickloot on, Vendor mounts will become your best friends, since they can be used to quickly empty your inventory.

Alternately, when you have wiped for the N'th time, and your gear is broken, you don't need to get out of the raid and start looking for the nearest repair spot, you can just summon your mount outside, or even inside the Instance(depending on the Raid/Dungeon) and repair your gear!

This is because when you summon a vendor mount, it will have two NPC's. One of which will be a Vendor/Repair guy, that will sell some useful skilling stuff, Tome of clear mind, repair your armour.

Currently there are two vendor mounts in WoW. The Grand Expedition Yak and the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth.

Two vendor mounts:

Grand Expedition Yak

The Grand Expedition Yak will be summoned with two NPC's. A Transmogrifier, that will let you transmog your gear, and a Vendor/Repair guy, that can be used to repair your gear and sell your items.

This mount can be bought from Uncle Bigpicket for 120’000 gold.

Traveler's Tundra Mammoth

The Traveler's Tundra Mammoth will be summoned with two NPC's. A food vendor, that will sell you food up to level 80, and a Vendor/Repair guy, that can be used to repair your gear and sell your items.

This mount can be bought from Mei Francis for 20’000 gold.

While the Yak has more useful vendor and a Transmogrifier, the Mammoth is a whopping 100’000 gold cheaper! So the Travelers Tundra Mammoth will be more accessible to the general player base.

That's the lot, when talking about special WoW mounts. I hope you learned something new and be sure to comment, if we forgot something, and let us know if you would like to see more content on World of Warcraft!

Heroes of the Storm players can get free loot in Diablo III, and vice-versa Tue, 25 Aug 2015 06:44:21 -0400 David Fisher

Good news Diablo III and Heroes of the Storm fans! Any player who owns Diablo III on PC or Mac will permanently receive the Heroes of the Storm character, Diablo, as of today! Any player who logs in to Heroes of the Storm after updating to the most recent patch will be granted free access to Diablo permanently, no strings attached. However, you must log into the game by 10 a.m. on September 8th or else you'll miss out on this opportunity.

Also, just like the previous cross-game rewards for Warcraft and Hearthstone, Diablo III and Heroes of the Storm will be getting cross-game rewards in the near future.

As of the Season 4 patch, players will be able to get a free pennant and portrait border for their Diablo III profile and characters. In order to receive this reward Heroes of the Storm players must own both games, as well as achieve a player level of 12.

Also, players who own Diablo III can get the Maltheal's Phantom mount for Heroes of the Storm by reaching level 70 with a Seasonal Hero in Season 4. Season 4 of Diablo III starts on August 28th.

These rewards - unlike the Diablo hero for Heroes of the Storm - are both retroactive and have no defined due date so there's no rush. But then again, who wouldn't want to ride into battle on Maltheal's Phantom in Heroes of the Storm as soon as it is released? Get on it!

While I was not expecting anything extreme for a Heroes of the Storm reward, I will admit I am slightly disappointed. While the feature is unlikely to ever happen, I would have really liked the ability to port your own Nephelem from Diablo III to Heroes of the Storm. I know it would probably be the most annoying thing to program into the game - not to mention it would likely boost Heroes of the Storm's installation size tenfold - but seeing Blizzard add these cross-game rewards certainly got my hopes up.

What about you readers? Will you grind your way to level 70 in patch 2.3.0 of Diablo III to get the Maltheal's Phantom mount for Heroes of the Storm? How about playing enough matches of Heroes of the Storm to reach a player level of 12? Do you already have a high enough profile level, and are you excited to get these rewards? There's a New Mount on the Prowl in Pandaria Sun, 02 Dec 2012 16:41:56 -0500 lillybabineau

The new race, class, lands, adventures and items aren't the only new things on the prowl in World of Warcraft since the new Mists of Pandaria expansion... there is also a new mount to be made!

... Alchemists can make the Vial of the Sands mount
... Engineers have the helicopter
... Tailors have their flying carpets
And now Jewelcrafters are able to make the Sunstone Panther!

Luxury Finishes

The Sunstone Panther comes in 4 colors, all available at different points. The pattern for the Sunstone and Jade Panthers can be received when you are honored with the Cloud Serpent. A Sapphire and Ruby Panther pattern is available when you become revered, and the Onyx Panther is available when you are exalted. However, you can only get the Onyx Panther when you have already made the ones before it. You need to combine them all for the Onyx Panther.

So Where's My [Make Cat] Button?

So what makes the new mount? Excellent question! The mats are crazy expensive to buy, especially one in particular. The rest can be found from things in Pandaria. They include living steel, sunstone gems, and motes of harmony. The last ingredient is called a Myster Orb and get this--you can only purchase it from a little goblin who sells mats on the roads of the Eternal Vale. The purchase price? Oh, only 18,000 gold! Yep, you read that right. Eighteen THOUSAND gold.

These Panthers are Gonna Cost You

As you can see from the cost of that one mat, this isn't going to be a cheap mount to obtain. Just one of these mounts will cost around 20,000 gold, and if you need the rest to get the Onyx Panther, you are looking at an 80,000 gold minimum before you MIGHT get to have it. I should take a minute to apologize to new players if I have gotten your hopes up. It'll be a while before you obtain that much gold, so don't even think about it until you are level 90 for a long time!
