New Pokemon are coming! Pokemon Go just sent out a new update, showcasing 10 of the 23 new Pokemon that will be released from the Hoenn region, the world you explore in both Sapphire and Ruby. Although the recent titles Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby are far fresher in many Pokemon gamers' minds, this won't change the excitement many trainers have.

Even though there are only 10 Pokemon showcased in the image, it would be safe to assume that pre-evolution and evolution forms of the revealed Pokemon will also be released. But here is a quick list of the Pokemon we do know!

  • Whismur, NPokedex entry #293.
  • Aron, NPokedex entry #304
  • Aggron, NPokedex entry #306
  • Camerupt, NPokedex entry #323
  • Trapinch, NPokedex entry #328
  • Cacnea, NPokedex entry #331
  • Flygon, NPokedex entry #330
  • Lunatone, NPokedex entry #337

Augmented Reality Update for Pokemon Go https://www.gameskinny.com/ng7bs/augmented-reality-update-for-pokemon-go https://www.gameskinny.com/ng7bs/augmented-reality-update-for-pokemon-go Wed, 20 Dec 2017 13:01:41 -0500 Sarah Elliman

Niantic and The Pokemon Company have announced today that they are continuing to improve the augmented reality aspect of Pokemon Go, using the iOS ARKit to capture the magic of Pokemon. The company had already been using ARKit, but they are now implementing AR+ to create more realistic Pokemon than ever before.

This feature is exclusive to those who own iPhones or iPads and will include a huge overhaul on the augmented Pokemon that you can capture. Perspective, size, and visuals will all change with this update, making the Pokemon on your screen look more realistic than ever before.

Pokemon will now be more realistic in terms of size and look different with regard to your perspective. They are also now fixed in a certain place, meaning you will be able to get up close and move around the Pokemon while still seeing every tiny detail.

Furthermore, this technical overhaul will include Pokemon having a greater sense of awareness, meaning if you get too close too fast, they’re likely to disappear. The awareness bar will allow you to see if that Pokemon is likely to flee; it also means that if you’re careful, you can receive the Expert Handler bonus as well. The Expert Handler bonus is completely new to the AR+ mode and gives you the opportunity to earn even more XP and Stardust. In addition, if you catch a Pokemon while near it, you can gain Great and Excellent Throw bonuses alongside the new bonus.

Pokemon Go still boasts an enormous player base and has seen a total of 750 million downloads since its inception in 2016. Even critics of the game are beginning to turn due to the new generation and subsequent updates that are being released by Niantic and The Pokemon Company.

The AR+ update is available starting today and can be downloaded by those using an iPhone 6 or newer (or users of iOS 11).

What do you think of the new Pokemon Go update? If you're not still playing, will you return to the game? Let us know in the comments below.

Pokemon Go Update Adds Weather, Parties, and Storage https://www.gameskinny.com/5swej/pokemon-go-update-adds-weather-parties-and-storage https://www.gameskinny.com/5swej/pokemon-go-update-adds-weather-parties-and-storage Fri, 08 Dec 2017 14:13:27 -0500 Ainyan

Niantic has announced an upcoming patch to its popular mobile ARG, Pokémon Go, which will release 50 new Pokémon from the Hoenn region and add a dynamic weather system to the game. In a recent update on their website, Niantic offered more details about the upcoming weather effects system, as well as two more inclusions: Battle Parties and Increased Pokémon Storage.

In the upcoming update, Pokémon Go will begin to reflect local weather conditions, including sunny days, rain, and snow. During these weather events, certain Pokémon will be more likely to appear. These Pokémon will yield bonus Stardust when captured and are more likely to be more powerful than their normal counterparts. Additionally, moves will also be affected by the appropriate weather; Fire-types will have more potency during sunny days, while Water-type moves will be more powerful when rain is falling.

In addition to the weather update, Niantic is offering players the ability to create Battle Parties, preset teams of up to six Pokémon that trainers can switch to when forming up for a raid. These Battle Parties will allow trainers who frequent Raid Battles to keep sets of Pokémon to battle each of the raid bosses, allowing for easy switching. Players should note that this feature is in beta and that, for now, sets will be saved per device. Niantic has stated that they are planning to allow parties to be saved by account in a future release.

The third update announced by Niantic is an increase in available Pokémon storage. With the introduction of Generation III, Niantic plans to increase the maximum collection size from 1,000 Pokémon to 1,500. Additionally, the base collection size will be increased by 50, so all trainers will find they can capture more Pokémon.

What do you think of the changes coming to Pokémon Go? Will the release of Generation III get you back out on the streets to Catch 'Em All? Will the new systems add to gameplay or create unnecessary clutter instead? Answer in the comments below!

Pokémon Go released on July 6, 2016 on iOS and Android mobile devices. Gameplay requires an active internet connection.

Mewtwo Coming to Pokemon Go Raid Battles Soon! https://www.gameskinny.com/699yo/mewtwo-coming-to-pokemon-go-raid-battles-soon https://www.gameskinny.com/699yo/mewtwo-coming-to-pokemon-go-raid-battles-soon Mon, 14 Aug 2017 10:55:11 -0400 Kieran Desmond

It's been a little over a year since the Pokemon Go phenomenon began, and various legendary Pokemon have made appearances in-game. But finally, one of the most iconic Pokemon of all time is making his way to this mobile Pokemon game -- Mewtwo.

Mewtwo has made his inaugural appearance as a Raid boss at the Pokemon Go Stadium event taking place in Yokohama, Japan. Many players were able to successfully capture the Legendary Psychic Pokemon during the event, and Niantic revealed that he will soon be available for Pokemon Go players worldwide. According to an official statement:

"In the coming weeks, you too will have the opportunity to battle and catch Mewtwo with the new Exclusive Raid Battle feature.”

This new Raid feature operates slightly differently than what players are used to. Instead of simply joining a raid battle, players will be need to be invited. To receive an invitation, you must have successfully completed a raid “recently” at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle is to be held.

The post does not specify how recent players need to have defeated the Raid Boss in order to qualify.

In addition to this announcement, Niantic has also decided to celebrate the thousands of limited-time-only Legendary Pokemon players have defeated by giving everyone another shot at catching them -- this includes Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, and Lugia. All four will be available to battle and capture from August 14 through August 31. So you’d better get out there and catch ‘em all before they pass you by!

Pokemon Go's Gym Update Looks to Be the Biggest One Yet https://www.gameskinny.com/z4yc7/pokemon-gos-gym-update-looks-to-be-the-biggest-one-yet https://www.gameskinny.com/z4yc7/pokemon-gos-gym-update-looks-to-be-the-biggest-one-yet Mon, 19 Jun 2017 17:25:59 -0400 Zantallion

Niantic has unveiled Pokemon Go's upcoming Gym Update, and it looks like a doozy. It includes a rework of the Gym system, the introduction of Raids, the addition of Gym Badges, and more. Let's dive in first with the new Gym mechanics.

Gyms will no longer revolve around the previous training and prestige mechanics, but instead around a new motivation system. Indicated by a little heart, each Pokemon in the gym now has an individual motivation meter. As the Pokemon is battled against, it loses motivation and its CP drops. When the meter is completely empty and the Pokemon loses one more battle, it will leave the gym and return home to its trainer, so its previously held spot will open up.

In order to keep your Pokemon's motivation up, you have to re-visit the gym and feed your buddy berries to keep its spirits strong. You can also feed berries to your teammates' Pokemon. Gyms also hold up to 6 Pokemon now, but the new motivation system will likely see to gyms trading hands more often than before.

There will also now be a one-per-gym limit on Pokemon species -- so if there's already a Mantine in the gym, you can't add your own Mantine to the line-up.

Grow strong, my good boy.

Gyms now also double as Pokestops, so you can get items from them like you would any other landmark. The Gym Update also adds in Gym Badges, which are extra collectibles you can get by participating and defending in battles at different Gyms. Doing so for the first time will earn you the badge, and repeated battles at the same gym will level up your Gym Badge -- which in turn will help you earn more items and rewards from that respective Gym.

The badge screen doubles as a list of gyms you've been to, and shows where your Pokemon are posted, which you can see below:

Gyms are now also host to the new Raid system. These raids take place at individual gyms, where eggs will randomly appear atop the gym. These eggs will have displayed timers that count down -- and once they hit zero, the raid boss Pokemon is revealed. These Pokemon are ridiculously strong, and take over the Gym for themselves, kicking out anyone in the Gym already.

You probably won't be able to beat one on your own, but thankfully, you can take on a raid boss with up to 20 people -- and it's not limited by teams, either. When in battle, you have five minutes to beat the boss, or you'll be kicked out and forced to try again. Raids happen regularly, and a new section of the tracker helps you keep track of what raids are happening where.

Raid Boss Tyranitar sure is excited for the update!

Beating these incredibly strong foes earns you incredible rewards too. Not only will you be able to capture a powerful Pokemon by beating them, you'll also be able to earn a boatload of items, including some that can only be earned via raids. Among them are Golden Razz Berries, which will greatly increase the chances to catch wild Pokemon or completely fill up a motivation bar.

TMs will also make their debut in Pokemon Go as Raid rewards, and allow players to permanently change one of the two moves their chosen Pokemon has, depending on the type of TM chosen. The other mentioned exclusive item is a Rare Candy -- which when used on a Pokemon, gives you an undisclosed amount of its specific candy type.

The new raid subsection on the tracker also appears to show difficulty ratings.

In order to participate in these raids however, you need raid passes. You can earn one of these per day by visiting gyms, and you can only hold on to one at a time -- so you need to be choosy about what raids you take part in. As another option, you can buy premium passes from the in-game store.

It's not mentioned in the press release, but some fans are speculating that Raids will be how Legendary Pokemon are going to finally make their way into the game -- so you might want to have a few Premium passes on hand just in case.

Until all these changes go live, Gyms have been temporarily disabled, but they'll be back up once the update drops, starting as a slow beta rollout before going live globally.

Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more news about this update, and other Pokemon Go guides that will help you tackle these changes once it launches.

Pokemon Go Water Festival Event Has Started https://www.gameskinny.com/ig23e/pokemon-go-water-festival-event-has-started https://www.gameskinny.com/ig23e/pokemon-go-water-festival-event-has-started Thu, 23 Mar 2017 05:58:14 -0400 tofuslayer

Niantic Labs announced that starting March 22nd at 1 pm PDT, Pokémon Go is celebrating a global Water Festival by giving trainers an opportunity to catch more Water-type Pokémon.

According to an update on the Pokémon Go website, trainers anywhere in the world are more likely to encounter Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, as well as their Evolutions. If you already have all of those Pokémon and their evolutions, there’s still more. If you explore areas where Water-type Pokémon typically dwell, you’ll have a better chance of encountering Water-type Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto region. The update also hinted that trainers may be more likely to encounter Lapras in these areas.

In addition, trainers will be able to access a new avatar wardrobe item, the Magikarp Hat, later today.

For trainers interested in capitalizing on these limited-time festivities, the Pokémon Go Water Festival celebration ends on March 29, 2017 at 1 pm PDT.

Pokémon GO took the world by storm, and now with the addition of 80 Johto Pokémon, will do so all over again. Encounter gameplay is said to be tweaked as well, with Pokémon acting in "new ways as you're trying to catch them." The addition of an item carousel will allow players to switch Pokéballs during encounters.

Outside of encounters, you can further customize your trainer with a new selection of clothing and accessories. Just another step in making your trainer completely unique.

Coming from the Pokémon Gold and Silver games, some of the added Pokémon include Marill, Cyndaquil, Chikorita, Totodile, and Crowbat. Many others were also seen in the announcement trailer shown below. With at least 80 Pokémon are coming to the game, players can look forward to hours of exploration.

While there is no exact date, this update will come to all Android and iOS users later this week.

Pokémon and RPG fans can expect more details soon.

New Pokemon Are Coming to Pokemon Go https://www.gameskinny.com/sptrt/new-pokemon-are-coming-to-pokemon-go https://www.gameskinny.com/sptrt/new-pokemon-are-coming-to-pokemon-go Wed, 07 Dec 2016 06:50:29 -0500 ESpalding

It really is happening! Today in a press release, Niantic confirmed that new Pokémon will be coming to Pokémon Go! The teaser announcement only confirms that there will be a big reveal on December 12 regarding the addition of more Pokémon in-game.

Gen 2 starter Pokemon Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile

So, could this be the Gen 2 pokémon we've been waiting for? What about the other original Pokémon currently missing from the game? As it stands, there are still five Generation 1 Pokémon unaccounted for. There were six, but recently the shapeshifting pokémon Ditto was released into the wild. The team mascots -- Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres -- are yet to be found (although someone had already claimed they found one). Mew and Mewtwo are missing as well.

There are 100 Pokémon in Gen 2, including many evolutions for some from the original generation. For example, it introduces Pichu -- which evolves into the much loved Pikachu -- and Steelix, which is evolved from Onix. Fans of the original anime will also recognize Togepi (one of Misty's Pokemon) and Marill (Tracy's Pokemon).

Yesterday, we reported on the fact that someone at Starbucks had leaked information regarding a new update, so this seems to coincide with that news. Perhaps this press release is a response to the leak....?

Either way, we'll be keeping our ears to the ground when December 12th rolls around. So stick around, and we'll give you all the latest info on which new Pokemon you can expect to see in Pokemon Go later this month.

Pokemon GO to Receive Gen 2 Update "Soon," According to Datamining https://www.gameskinny.com/ixik1/pokemon-go-to-receive-gen-2-update-soon-according-to-datamining https://www.gameskinny.com/ixik1/pokemon-go-to-receive-gen-2-update-soon-according-to-datamining Sun, 27 Nov 2016 16:59:37 -0500 Kris Cornelisse (Delfeir)

Datamining the latest Pokemon GO update has revealed evidence for a whole suite of new features to be added to the game soon, not the least of which is the full roster of Gen 2 Pokemon.

From Chikorita to Celebi, every Gen 2 Pokemon is now referenced in the game's code. However, it's best to note that this is still very preliminary; there's no moveset data attached to these Pokemon just yet, which suggests that another update on both server and client side will be necessary before we see them in the wild. As such, there's still no release date to be gathered from this.

In addition to the long-awaited additional Pokemon, there is now code referring to a daily quest system, as well as a potential weekly bonus. No specifics on what bonuses this will offer are forthcoming, however.

While this is all merely analyzing code for the future, the latest update did add Ditto to the world, who can be found masquerading as any other Pokemon. The only way to know you've found one is to catch it and see!

For a full list of features found in the code, The Silph Road's article has you covered.

While there are full blown rumors about an update coming to Pokemon GO in December, there is still no official statement on the matter just yet. Nonetheless, this is very much something to get excited for. We'll be sure to let you know the moment we know anything!

Pokemon Go Update to Add Daily Bonuses https://www.gameskinny.com/kpwei/pokemon-go-update-to-add-daily-bonuses https://www.gameskinny.com/kpwei/pokemon-go-update-to-add-daily-bonuses Mon, 14 Nov 2016 04:01:14 -0500 Kiara Halls

Over the next few days, Niantic will be rolling out a new update for Pokemon Go. The update is version 1.15.0 on iOS and 0.45.0 for Android.

The update adds three news things, the biggest of which are the Daily Bonuses, which gives players a reward for logging in and visiting PokeStops everyday, with the rewards getting bigger with every seven day streak. Also included in the update are patches where, when taking a Gym, there's a short cooldown period where only you can place a Pokemon in the open top spot, and one where the amount of Prestige a rival Gym loses when a regular Gym member is beaten has gone up, while the amount you receive by training at a friendly Gym has gone down.

Recently, Niantic has been struggling to keep players engaged with Pokemon Go, and this update seems like a reaction to that, as it adds literal incentives to continued play of the game. Time will tell if it's enough to hold players over in lieu of adding new Pokemon.

Here is Niantic's official message:

Pokémon GO updated to version 0.45.0 for Android and 1.15.0 for iOS Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.45.0 for Android and 1.15.0 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

  • You’ll earn bonuses for the first Pokémon catch and PokéStop visit each day. You’ll receive a larger bonus when you do this seven days in a row.
  • When you defeat the Gym Leader at a rival Gym, there will be a brief period of time where only you will be able to place a Pokémon in the open Gym.
  • The amount of Prestige a rival Gym loses when you defeat a regular Gym member has increased. The amount of Prestige gained by training at a friendly Gym has been lowered.
  • Minor text fixes

Who Will You Choose? Pokémon Go's New Buddy System is Live! https://www.gameskinny.com/ywyld/who-will-you-choose-pokemon-gos-new-buddy-system-is-live https://www.gameskinny.com/ywyld/who-will-you-choose-pokemon-gos-new-buddy-system-is-live Tue, 13 Sep 2016 14:42:33 -0400 ChocolateCat42

Welcome, Trainers!

It's finally here! Ever since the latest update was confirmed by Niantic in early September, we've been impatiently waiting. Why? One reason in particular: The Buddy System! Trainers can now choose a Pokémon to exercise, earning candy for their Buddy by going certain distances-- that's right, exactly like hatching an egg! Read on for your step-by-step guide on how to implement this system.

Note: The below guide is demonstrated on an Android device. iOS users may notice some discrepancies.

Step One: Update Pokémon Go

This may seem intuitive, but bear with me. Like the release, this update is crawling through the regions one section at a time. Check your app to ensure that the update is available in your region. Once you finish downloading and installing, you're ready to proceed.

Step Two: Choose Your Pokémon

Now that your app is updated, log in and head to your profile page. As you can see in the image above, I'm demonstrating with my Trainer. (#TeamInstinct)

Open the menu in the lower right-hand corner to see a new option: Buddy. Tapping "Buddy" will pull up a list of your current Pokémon. Select who you wish to exercise and tap on them.

To begin, I chose my starter: Charmander. (Say "hello," Kouta! Char!) As Kouta is the only Charmander I have come across, walking is the best option to finally evolve him and add to my Pokédex. The above screen is now your default Buddy menu. Here, you can check how far you need to walk to earn more candy or switch Buddies. (Professor Willow's voice echoes around you: "If you choose to switch Buddies, all walking progress for your current friend will be lost. Make sure you wait to change until you have earned the latest Candy!")

Once you have set a Buddy Pokémon, they will appear beside you on your Profile page. A small bubble on the main screen also appears alongside your own. Unfortunately, your Buddy does not actually walk alongside you on the screen.

Step Three: Start Walkin'!

Now that your Buddy is ready to go, it's time to get outside and start moving. Just like hatching eggs, earning Candy uses a walk-to-earn system. The distance required varies by Pokémon, so pay attention to your Buddy screen.

But That's Not All!

While choosing our friends to walk with us and earn candy was the most anticipated portion of this update, Niantic had more in store for us. Visuals have been tweaked, as you might have noticed when looking at my Profile screen. Niantic also implemented a fix to the lock-up experienced by many players when walking between WiFi and Data-only zones. Smaller Pokémon will now be easier to select on the screen, and a few minor text edits have been made. Last but not least, support information is now available for those players lucky enough to get a Pokémon Go Plus. While we are eagerly waiting for the new Tracking System to exit Beta, these updates will improve playability and performance for the rest of us. Happy training!

Who did you set as your Buddy Pokémon? Let us know in the comments!

New Pokemon GO Update Adds Pokemon Appraisal https://www.gameskinny.com/jsz0p/new-pokemon-go-update-adds-pokemon-appraisal https://www.gameskinny.com/jsz0p/new-pokemon-go-update-adds-pokemon-appraisal Wed, 24 Aug 2016 07:07:49 -0400 Synzer

The latest Pokemon GO update added an Appraisal feature for your Pokemon, as well as a fix for Pokemon sometimes staying at 1HP at gyms. There was also a note that the developers are working on balancing battles some more.

The biggest part of the update is arguably the Appraisal system. Players can now get in-depth info on how good their Pokemon is, as well as hidden stats called IVs (Individual Values).

How the Appraisal System Works

When you select menu that can transfer your Pokemon, you will also have the option for Appraisal. When you choose this, your team leader will say 3 phrases:

  • How your Pokemon is overall
  • Your Pokemon's best stats
  • The size of your Pokemon

There are 3 stats and each can have a max IV of 15 for a total of 45 if all are maxed. They can also have 0 in each. This does not mean they won't have any stats. It just means they aren't increased at all.

Each message gives you an indication on how your Pokemon is, but the messages differ depending on the team leader.

Blanche/Team Mystic

Total IVs Phrase
37-45  What a Breathtaking Pokemon
30-36  Certainly caught my attention

  • "I see that its best attribute is (Attack/Defense/HP)."

Your Pokemon can also have 2 or all 3 stats equal to the highest stat. If this happens she says:

  • "It is matched equally by its (Attack/Defense/HP)."

After that, she says a message to determine the number of those stats.

Highest Stat Value Phrase

First, he will tell you your Pokemon's highest stat.

  • "Its best quality is its (Attack/Defense/HP)."

Your Pokemon can also have 2 or all 3 stats equal to the highest stat. If this happens he says:

  • "Its (Attack/Defense/HP) is great, too!"

After that, he says a message to determine the number of those stats.

Highest Stat Value Phrase
15  Stats are the best I've ever seen

First, she will tell you your Pokemon's highest stat.

  • "Its (Attack/Defense/HP) is its strongest feature."

Your Pokemon can also have 2 or all 3 stats equal to the highest stat. If this happens she says:

  • "I'm just as impressed with its (Attack/Defense/HP)."

After that, she says a message to determine the number of those stats.

Highest Stat Value Phrase
15  Blown away by its stats
13-14  It's got excellent stats

Pokemon Go Cheating and Bans Update https://www.gameskinny.com/aigjh/pokemon-go-cheating-and-bans-update https://www.gameskinny.com/aigjh/pokemon-go-cheating-and-bans-update Mon, 22 Aug 2016 04:47:42 -0400 Ken How

Cheating and Bans

The latest update on the official website was targeted towards cheaters who use Bots, and other means of thirds party software, to play at an unfair advantage.

Niantic has started to take action against players who abuse the system by terminating accounts completely. Whenever the system founds out that a person is cheating, Niantic will send the user stating the termination of the account.

There are several reports made regarding cheaters with GPS location spoofing (with the help of FakeGPS app) to conquer PokeGyms around the globe, and some users were reported using a mobile emulator called BlueStacks which allow users to play Pokemon Go on computers.

Prior to this update Niantic developers only apply "soft bans" towards cheaters. "Soft Bans" typically restrict users from catching Pokemon or collecting items from the PokeStops for a period of time. However, this soft ban can be removed by continuously going into a particular PokeStop, swipe, and exit until you get items from the PokeStop. The following video will demonstrate the process of bypassing the "soft ban".

However, if a users' account has been terminated incorrectly, a report should be filed on the Pokemon Go Help Center.

Pokémon Go sees the return of the 'Nearby Pokémon' feature https://www.gameskinny.com/cwz8u/pokemon-go-sees-the-return-of-the-nearby-pokemon-feature https://www.gameskinny.com/cwz8u/pokemon-go-sees-the-return-of-the-nearby-pokemon-feature Tue, 09 Aug 2016 17:08:30 -0400 Amy Turnbull

It’s been a point of constant frustration since Pokémon Go was first released last month, but it seems Niantic are finally addressing the issues with the mobile game’s ‘Nearby Pokémon’ feature head on.

Following the game’s most recent update on August 8th, Niantic have stated:

"We’re currently testing a variation of the “Nearby Pokémon” feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI."

Pokémon Go user JericGT is one of the players currently getting to test this new variation and took to the Neogaf forums (as user Toki767) soon after the update to share details of how it currently looks and works.

It seems the system Niantic are trialling uses nearby Pokéstops to help you locate Pokémon in the vicinity. The feature also contains two sections now: ‘Nearby’, which lists those Pokémon you can actually track, and ‘Sightings’, which appears to list Pokémon that are known to the region but not necessarily close enough for tracking.

Player JericGT explained: “Selecting the Pokémon to track will also put an actual marker on your live map.” He also shared a .GIF image (shown below) that illustrates a little of how the new feature currently works for those in the testing group.

It's still early days for this new tracking feature, and Niantic haven't provided a time frame for this current testing stage, so it could be a little while before we see it officially added into the game as a whole. It could of course also change yet again, depending on player feedback. But after so many issues, and particularly the many vocalised frustrations from players surrounding the initial non-functioning tracker, this move by Niantic can certainly be seen as a plus for the game.

Pokemon GO Update Includes Tracking Fix https://www.gameskinny.com/040ns/pokemon-go-update-includes-tracking-fix https://www.gameskinny.com/040ns/pokemon-go-update-includes-tracking-fix Tue, 09 Aug 2016 03:46:02 -0400 Synzer

The latest update in Pokemon fixes some bugs and made big changes to the Pokemon tracker. There were no details given as to how this new system works, but I'll go over it a bit more later. First, let me list all of the changes in this update.

1.3.0/0.33.0 Changes

The game now warns you when you go above a certain speed not to drive while playing Pokemon GO. You must now confirm that you are a passenger and not driving.

Experience and Capture
  • Improves accuracy of curveball throws
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Nice, Great, and Excellent throws from awarding the appropriate experience bonuses
  • Fixed achievements showing the wrong Medal icons
  • Enabled the ability for Trainers to change their nickname one time
  • Re-enabled the battery saver mode for iOS
  • Added visuals of team leaders

A new "Nearby" feature is being tested. It now shows grass in the background of the nearby Pokemon.

Pokemon GO 0.33.0 Tracker Update

  • It now only shows Pokemon that are nearby during that time and gets rid of those you have seen, but no longer near.
  • It could show only a few Pokemon, or none at all.
  • The bottom 3 Pokemon are now displayed with the closest starting on the left, instead of previously on the right.
  • Tracking as explained in this article is still the best way to hunt.

The new nearby feature is not perfect, but it is much easier to track Pokemon and see which Pokemon are actually near you.

What do you think of these changes? Are things getting better for Pokemon GO? Let me know in the comments!

Pokemon GO's Latest Update Ignites Fury in The Community https://www.gameskinny.com/zkewp/pokemon-gos-latest-update-ignites-fury-in-the-community https://www.gameskinny.com/zkewp/pokemon-gos-latest-update-ignites-fury-in-the-community Sun, 31 Jul 2016 09:57:20 -0400 Synzer

Pokemon GO had a recent update and it infuriated many players and members of the community. There have been many changes in the latest update, but the one that got the community talking was the infamous tracking feature.

Some players have even been requesting refunds for in-app purchases.

Let me start by listing all the changes, then dedicate a section solely to tracking.

Update 0.31.0

  • Avatars can now be re-customized from the Trainer profile screen
  • Adjusted battle move damage values for some Pokémon
  • Refined certain Gym animations
  • Improved memory issues
  • Removed footprints of nearby Pokémon
  • Modified battle damage calculation
  • Various bug fixes during wild Pokémon encounters
  • Updated Pokémon details screen
  • Updated achievement medal images
  • Fixed issues with displaying certain map features
  • Minor text fixes

That bolded section is what you are hearing about. In Pokemon GO, there is a "nearby" feature that shows Pokemon close to you. There used to be footsteps underneath them to indicate how close they were.

They ranged from 1-3, 3 meant furthest away, and 1 meant very close. It hasn't worked since the first week and would always show 3 steps. The latest update removed footsteps entirely since it was not working.

Players have expressed their dislike for this feature and was hoping it would be fixed instead of removed. Some players are even pledging not to make in-app purchases until Niantic adds a working footsteps feature.

Personally, this is not a huge deal. Will it take longer and more work to find Pokemon? It sure will, but the game isn't broken.

This app was never advertised as a game for you to just go to a specific place to get Pokemon, then move on. It was advertised to be like the games where you travel around and search for the Pokemon. You are meant to just go out in the world, then if you see some interesting Pokemon nearby, you catch them.

Players have it their mind that the app is something different, something they need to min/max. There are even sites like Pokevision that were used to track nearby Pokemon. This was mostly because the footsteps weren't working, but it is still not how the app was advertised.

Niantic has shut down sites like this, which will infuriate people even more. I, and others that are not as vocal, believe in a different experience and don't think that this is the end of the world.

I will not defend Niantic, however, because they lack serious communication skills and don't listen to feedback at all. I just think that the tracking change is fine, and the game is still very playable.

Other Important Changes

Let's talk about the other changes though, which are actually great. Firstly, being able to customize your trainer at anytime is fantastic and I'm glad they finally added that.

The adjusted battle damage values, mixed with modifications of how battle damage is calculated, can make battling a lot better. Secondary moves actually matter now, and you don't have to just tap primary moves nonstop.

It will take multiple battles to test how much of an impact this actually has on which Pokemon to use.

Issues being fixed for wild Pokemon encounters is also very important.

There were 2 changes that were not in the notes:

  • Battery saver function was removed on iOS
  • Favorited Pokemon can't be transferred

I don't know why the battery saver function was removed, but the favorited Pokemon being unavailable for transfer isn't a bad change. You can also unfavorite them, then transfer them if you want.

What do you feel about the Pokemon GO changes? Is everyone's outrage justified, or are people overreacting?

Niantic CEO Drops Hints about Pokemon GO https://www.gameskinny.com/p4d4g/niantic-ceo-drops-hints-about-pokemon-go https://www.gameskinny.com/p4d4g/niantic-ceo-drops-hints-about-pokemon-go Mon, 25 Jul 2016 06:15:32 -0400 JessDambach

Niantic CEO John Hanke, the head honcho of Pokemon GO, happened to be at the San Diego Comic-Con on Sunday to give us hints as to what we will be seeing in the future of Pokemon GO.

Here are 5 things Hanke revealed in a conversation with a reporter at Comic-Con:

Sorry about the servers

Hanke told us Niantic's servers "weren't provisioned for what happened" and the popularity, and that the company's engineers are working on keeping the servers up and reliable before they add new features. They're working on fixing details like the Pokemon radar system, too.

Rare Pokemon are coming

"There are some rare ones that haven't showed up yet that will be showing up."

Only 145 out of the total 151 Pokemon have been accounted for by players worldwide right now, so more to come.

Your team will be more important

Pokemon teams — Team Instinct (Yellow), Team Valor (Red), and Team Mystic (Blue) — have one of the three Legendary Bird Pokemon as their mascot, and that may play into which of the birds players can catch. Hanke said:

"They're kinda aligned with the teams, and we might have something to announce about the teams soon."

Plus, the leaders of each team will be giving out advice to players soon too.

Turning Pokéstops into Pokemon Centers

Hanke hints some  Pokestops can turn into Pokemon Centers, where you can heal your Pokemon.

Players haven't found everything:  Pokemon Go players have discovered that giving an Eevee the name of "Pyro," "Rainer," or "Sparky" will ensure that it evolves into Flareon, Vaporeon, or Jolteon. Hanke says there are plenty more little secrets like that which players haven't found.

Hanke confirmed Pokemon trading coming to the game, as said previously. Right now, players are hitting the limits of this mobile game, as Nick Johnson caught all 142 Pokemon available in the US. I wander what else they have up their sleeve for the future of this game.

With the overnight success of Pokémon Go, the list of features available in the game will only increase as time goes on. John Hanke of Niantic has teased new features like trading, Pokémon Centers, PokéStop customization, and additional Pokémon for the mobile game.

Hanke spoke at the Pokémon Go San Diego Comic-Con panel. He said that as months and even years progress, Pokémon outside of the original 150 may become available. He was unable to give a date for a trading mechanic, though he confirmed that the function is in development.

As for PokéStops, Hanke said that the customization will allow players to build up an area and change PokéStop functionality with items. Comicbook.com notes Hanke's comment on the scope of development concepts:

"We have probably a tenth of the ideas we had when we kicked this project off two years ago in the initial release."

GameSkinny has plenty of Pokémon Go coverage, including the news of the first ever "Pokémon Master."

Pokemon GO is reaching new levels of hype as more details come in and invites to the US field test start to go out. If you have already signed up, be sure to check your emails throughout the day to see if you got it. You can still sign up at the official site, but I don't know how this affects the invites going out today.

More information has come out about battling and gyms, so I decided to compile everything we know so far about how Pokemon GO works.

Capturing Pokemon

The most important part of the game is how you will get Pokemon. This app is a real-world one that involves literally going outside and travelling around to catch and battle Pokemon.

  • Players are notified when there is a nearby Pokemon and can catch them with a Poké Ball when they get close enough
  • You can get Poké Balls and other items by going to PokéStops, which are located and places like museums, monuments, or historical markers
    • You also have the chance to get eggs from these places that hatch into Pokemon.
  • Certain Pokemon will only appear in certain areas. For example, a Water-type Pokemon may only appear near lakes, rivers, or oceans.

As you capture Pokemon, your trainer level will increase, which allows you to catch more powerful Pokemon.

Pokemon GO info

You can also evolve certain Pokemon by catching them multiple times, so now you have more of a reason to catch the same Pokemon.

Gyms and Battling

As you play, you will be encouraged to join 1 of 3 teams so you can engage in gym battles against other teams. These gyms are located in real world locations and players can assign Pokemon to them.

New info has come out about how these gym battles work:

  • If there is no Pokemon at a gym, a player may claim the gym for their team and select a Pokemon to defend it
    • A player may only assign 1 Pokemon to the gym.
  • If your team has control over a gym, you can train with the defending Pokemon to increase the prestige and level of that gym
    • As you level the gym, more Pokemon will be able to defend the gym.
  • Players can fight rival gyms and if they win, the Gym's prestige goes down
    • If the defending gym's prestige hits 0, they lose the gym and a new team can take over.
    • You can also team up with other players to fight a rival gym.

Pokemon GO gym battles

  • Pokemon have 2 attacks to choose from and can dodge
    • When you are fighting gym Pokemon, your Pokemon can use either of the 2 attacks that they have, which is different from the usual 4 from other Pokemon games.
    • You can also dodge left or right by swiping the screen.

Extra Info

  • You can even customize your trainer avatar and unlock medals for your profile.
  • There will be many challenges you can complete that involve catching certain Pokemon, exploring, and more.
  • There is a device called the Pokemon GO Plus that connects to your found via Bluetooth
    • This will notify you of events, such as nearby Pokemon, even when you aren't using the app.
  • Pokemon GO is free to play, but offers in-app purchases
    • Players will be able to buy PokeCoins, the in-game currency, with real money.
    • These can be used on power-ups, extra items, and more.

Finally, the app is still in development and many things could change by the time the full release happens later this year.

What do you think of the info we have so far? Let me know how excited you are, or hope to have, from Pokemon GO!
