In Power Rangers RPG, players will command different ranger team combinations, pilot Megazords, complete daily missions and dimensional explorations, have ranger teams compete in 5 vs. 5 training battles in the dimensional arena, team up with other players to complete Alliance Raids, receive exclusive rewards, and more.

The beta features Rangers from Power Rangers RPM, Wild Force, S.P.D., Mystic Force, Megaforce, Super Megaforce, and Operation Overdrive.

The Power Rangers RPG beta will be available until March 2, 2018, after which all data will be wiped to work on balancing and other improvements. It has been stated the the beta is closed to testers only, but anyone with an Android mobile device should be able to download and play it. A release date for the final version has not yet been announced. It is currently unknown if the game will also release on iOS devices.

2018 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. To celebrate, Saban will host special touring live events; Boom! Studios will be releasing more of their multiple Power Rangers comic book series, including the upcoming "Shattered Grid" event; Power Rangers: The Ultimate Visual History book will be released; Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel will premiere, which will include guest stars from previous seasons and a 25th anniversary special; new Legacy series Power Rangers toys made exclusively by Bandai will be released; and special collectible commemorative pins will be available at conventions and expos.

The Past Fondly Remembered

\n

Although all of the games on this list released just this year, their inspirations and/or source material shows how much players and creators appreciate the nostalgia the past has provided.

\n

With more remasters, new games based off of older properties, and spiritual successors to games of the past still to be announced and released, the nostalgic past won't be forgotten any time soon.

PaRappa The Rapper Remastered

\n
Platforms: PlayStation 4
\n

One of the first modern rhythm games is back, and features updated HD graphics and sound.

\n

PaRappa The Rapper is an iconic game which is commonly credited for starting the modern rhythm game genre. In the game, you play as amateur rapping dog, Parappa, as he tries to impress the girl he likes and learns to believe in himself.

\n

PaRappa The Rapper Remastered is a great musical experience with a catchy soundtrack--although arguably not as good as the soundtrack of the sequel-- and can provide fun for any fan of late 90's PlayStation Games.

\n

PaRappa The Rapper Remastered is available for download on PlayStation 4. The sequel to the original game, PaRappa The Rapper 2, is available for download in the PS2 for PS4 section.

\n

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is a remake of the 1989 Sega Master System game, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.

\n

In the game you play a Hu-Man, a character who has been cursed into being a half-human and half-lizard monster by the Meka-Dragon, on his journey to find the Salamander Cross so he can remove his curse.

You can also play as Hu-Girl, Hu-Man's new co-star, Lizard-Man, Mouse-Man, Piranha-Man, Lion-Man, and Hawk-Man, who each have their own unique special abilities.

\n

With amazing hand-drawn graphics, a re-orchestrated soundtrack, and the ability to switch from modern graphics and sound to 8-bit graphics/audio whenever you want, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap provides an enjoyable experience for both players who grew up in the 1980's and newer players today.

\n

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is available for download on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game is also planned for release on PC in June 2017.

Yooka-Laylee

\n
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
\n

This spiritual successor to the beloved Nintendo 64 game, Banjo-Kazooie, may not have the best reviews, but is a great purchase for fans who would like to feel like they've gone back to a simpler time.

\n

Yooka-Laylee may not do anything new or interesting to improve the gameplay of its predecessors, but it provides a great amount of nostalgia for gamers who prefer older games.

\n

Yooka-Laylee was also part of a short lived yet interesting controversy with a popular YouTube personality, which you can read more about here.

Yooka-Laylee is available for download on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and will be Nintendo Switch in the near future. Yooka-Laylee also has physical copies available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Saban's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Mega Battle

\n
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One
\n

This nostalgic game released a few months before the new movie, which is rather odd timing. But nonetheless, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Mega Battle is a beat 'em up based on the original series, and similar in playstyle to the original Power Rangers games, which were on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.

\n

In Mega Battle, you can play as the original six rangers, and you have the option to download three replacement rangers as DLC. The game is a pretty standard beat 'em up, but it doesn't do anything new or interesting. The graphics also make the game look like it would be something you'd play on your web browser, rather than a game you would play on a modern console.

\n

Despite its low-res graphical style and subpar gameplay, Saban's Mighty Morphin's Power Rangers Mega Battle is still a game where you can have a lot of fun playing co-op with your friends.

\n

The game is available for download on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Video games have come a long way since their genesis in the late 70's and early 80's. In the year 2017 we have three different versions of the fourth PlayStation, the third Xbox, which confusingly sounds like it's the first one, several different virtual reality headsets, and a Nintendo handheld that can also easily connect to your TV screen.

\n

For those overwhelmed by all this new technology and different choices, there are still new games that will help make them feel as if they never left the simpler times they remember.

\n

Here are 8 recently released games for any fan of 80's and 90's nostalgia.

Satisfy Your Need for Giant Monster Battles with War of the Monsters https://www.gameskinny.com/2puzy/satisfy-your-need-for-giant-monster-battles-with-war-of-the-monsters https://www.gameskinny.com/2puzy/satisfy-your-need-for-giant-monster-battles-with-war-of-the-monsters Mon, 27 Mar 2017 16:00:01 -0400 Erroll Maas

With movies like Kong: Skull Island and Power Rangers having been released recently, some may be looking to play games featuring giant monsters -- fighting games in particular. In the past few years there has been a severe lack of these types of games other than 2015's lackluster Godzilla, and 2013's Pacific Rim. Despite the scarcity of titles in this genre, a game from the distant past, which has since been re-released twice, is the game that can satisfy the need for giant monster brawls. That game is War of the Monsters.

War of the Monsters was developed by the now defunct Incognito Entertainment (Twisted Metal spin offs, Warhawk) and first released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2. As the title may imply, War of the Monsters is a fighting game featuring giant monsters battling it out in destructible environments. What makes this game unique, however, is that all of the monsters are homages to famous movie monsters of the 1950's -- from King Kong and Godzilla inspired monsters, to homages of lesser known monsters such as Kamacuras (Godzilla Franchise) and Daimajin. War of the Monsters is the crossover monster game fans have asked for, without the complications of character licensing. There are even mock up movie posters featuring each monster seen on the loading screen depending on the environment chosen, as if these monsters actually had their own movies.

War of the Monsters

A common problem found in similar games is they seem to have difficulty recreating the feel of playing as a giant monster. In other giant monster fighting games, combat can feel too slow, making it feel stiff and as if you're playing as a man in a rubber suit rather than the actual monster. The monsters in War of the Monsters are slightly smaller than monsters in other games, which may help increase their mobility but are all relatively the same speed, which helps the combat feel even and fast paced.

War of the Monsters, destruction

Another problem found in these games is that environments aren't as destructible as they should be. If giant monsters are battling it out in a populated environment, it's fair to expect that a decent portion of said environment will be demolished during the scuffle. In War of the Monsters, the environments are fully destructible, buildings can be climbed, crushed, or be toppled over and crush monsters, and plenty of different objects can be picked up and used as clubs, spears, and projectiles. There's even an option to rebuild the environment if a player feels that it has become too barren after a clashing of titans has gone on for awhile.

Despite the edge War of the Monsters has over the competition, it does still have some notable flaws. The most noticeable flaw is that the camera cannot be fully controlled and can feel awkward at times, sometimes creating blind spots without meaning too. There are also some unblockable attacks which can feel unfair, but are a minor inconvenience after getting enough experience with the game. The last notable problem is that at times it can feel like the AI is determined to survive no matter the difficulty setting, which can be frustrating, but again is a small annoyance when the player has enough experience. These flaws, although irritating, can easily be overlooked because of everything else War of the Monsters has to offer.

War of the Monsters, poster

War of the Monsters may not be perfect, but it's one of the best and most easily accessible games in the giant monster fighting genre and deserves your attention if you're seeking an enjoyable experience.

War of the Monsters is available as a digital download on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 and is on sale often.

The Ribbon/Super Ribbon
\n

While it doesn't look like much as a line of defence The Ribbon is a long standing accessory and piece of armor in the Final Fantasy series, and is one of if not the most reliable and powerful defensive items in the entire series.

\n

It usually protects the characters against all status effects with the exception of death related status effects such Instant Death or Doom, or in some cases slow and stop as seen in Final Fantasy VII.

\n

The Super Ribbon is an upgraded version of The Ribbon and similarly protects against all status effects and in some games prevents Instant Death.

\n

The Ribbon has also made it on to the Kingdom Hearts series and provides 20% elemental resistance which can be upgraded to 25% with The Grand Ribbon in Kingdom Hearts 2.

\n

What is your favourite Final Fantasy armor set? Do you disagree with any of the picks here? Let us know in the comments below!

The Genji Armor
\n

Appearing in almost every Final Fantasy game the Genji armor is almost always the most powerful equipment set you can find. It is rare and is usually either stolen from or dropped after defeating a recurring boss/character known as Gilgamesh, a travelling samurai/swordsman who is searching for the ultimate weapon known as Excalibur.

\n

A good example of the Genji's power can be seen Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core with the armor, which when equipped sets the HP limit to 99,999 and grants auto-Endure and Regen. The Genji shield is incredibly powerful in this game too because it absorbs all elemental attacks and makes Zack immune to all status effects.

\n

Gilgamesh is set to return in some Final Fantasy XV DLC in the near future so it's very possible that he will bring along the Genji Armor he is famed for carrying.

The Ziedrich Armor
\n

The Zeidrich Armor is one of the most powerful in the series providing high stat boosts and protection from all elemental attacks.

\n

Next to the Mystile Armour it is the most powerful in Final Fantasy VII with massive defense stats in both magic and physical attributes. Combined with ability to half all elemental attacks it is an extremely effective line of defence only rivalled by the Mystile.

\n

It has appeared in Final Fantasy X as Atlas which is a shield for Rikku that is obtained when the dominant set up is Break HP Limit. In a more recent appearance it is the best shield for Noctis and Gladiolus and is one of the rare legendary weapons in Final Fantasy XV.

The Grand Armor
\n

The metallic Grand Armor is one of the best in the series although it hasn't been seen a lot in many of the mainline titles it has featured in spinoffs like Final Fantasy: Explorers and Final Fantasy: Dissidia.

\n

In Final Fantasy XII it is the strongest heavy armor in the game and requires quite a bit of effort to obtain being an extremely rare drop.

\n

The armor is described as "the greatest armor" and can only be worn by Steiner and Freya in Final Fantasy IX. It can also be worn by heavy armor wearing classes like the dragoon, knight and samurai in Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions.

The Crystal Armor
\n

The Crystal Armor is one of the stronger equipment sets in the Final Fantasy universe and one of the most recognisable but often falling short of being the best when being surpassed by more rare items found later on in the game. Although it is lead protagonist Cecils most powerful armor even surpassing the Dragon Knight Armor in Final Fantasy IV.

\n

The armor and other defensive items are seen throughout the series but the full range of Crystal equipment has been seen with the appearance of the Crystal sword too.

\n

The Crystal bangles seen in Final Fantasy X-2 are the strongest in the game for its positive effects on a character's status such as large boosts to HP and MP.

Dragon/Dragoon Armor
\n

Another very recognisable equipment class in the Final Fantasy universe it is often associated with the Dragon Knight class and the similar more powerful Dragoons.

\n

The Dragon sets are a rare item that can't purchased in town shops and usually has comparable defense stats to items like the Genji Armor.

\n

Visually the Dragon equipment is synonymous with Final Fantasy IV because of one the characters in the game and fan favorite the Dragoon called Kain Highwind and is easily one of the more recognisable character classes in the game. The Dragoon class aesthetics and its equipment make a return in Final Fantasy XV with the character Aranea highwind.

\n

The Dragon Knight armor is one of the most powerful in the Final Fantasy IV second only to the Cecils Crystal armor.

The Mystile Armor
\n

They Mystile armor has only featured in one mainline Final Fantasy title and that was Final Fantasy VII, although it did appear again in Final Fantasy: Crisis Core and the Final Fantasy: Dissidia series.

\n

The Mystile armor has gained quite a following with Final Fantasy VII fans not only because it's one of the strongest in the game next to the Ziedrich armor, but because of its useful status effects, high evasion rate, increased accuracy and when combined with Deathblow, the Curse Ring and other useful items and it allows for Materia combinations like Final Attack and Phoenix, so it becomes very versatile when compared to the Ziedrich which has no Materia slots -- especially when going up against the Ultimate Weapon bosses.

The Mystile is a very powerful armor that would have been featured higher on the list if it was featured in more than just one mainline title.

With the recent controversy surrounding Square-Enix's now delayed "Magitek Exosuit" DLC for Final Fantasy XV with its more than passing resemblance to The Power Rangers. The developers stated that after getting contacted by studios behind the new Power Rangers film, they are now having to go back to the drawing board and redesign their look in order to avoid potential problems further on.

\n

\n

While every mainline Final Fantasy title usually has its own unique story and setting one of the things that fans have come to love are the connections and subtle references to previous games like characters names, items, Chocobos, Moogles and equipment sets that have become a staple for the series.

\n

Although you very rarely see your characters physical appearance change like a western RPG when equipping new items and accessories, the equipment sets names and information in the series have so many recognisable qualities that long time fans will be very familiar with when they discover them through the course of their adventures.

\n

While we patiently wait for the new Magitek Exosuits here I am listing what I have found to be the most useful, powerful and defensive armor and equipment sets the Final Fantasy universe.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle Announced for PS4/Xbox One https://www.gameskinny.com/lmfwk/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-mega-battle-announced-for-ps4xbox-one https://www.gameskinny.com/lmfwk/mighty-morphin-power-rangers-mega-battle-announced-for-ps4xbox-one Fri, 07 Oct 2016 11:04:05 -0400 Brawler1993

Do you feel like there's a Power Rangers-shaped hole in your life right now? One that the upcoming live-action reboot movie won't fill? Then Bandai Namco may have you covered with a brand new title.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle is a classic 2D side-scroller beat 'em up based on the first two series of the show. You'll be able to take control and level up all of your favorite Rangers, using martial arts and unique weapons to take down the evil forces of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd. And, of course, you'll be able to play as the Megazord too.

There will also be a co-op feature that allows you and some friends to team up and perform special combo attacks.

The game will be released digitally on the Xbox One and PS4 in January 2017. There are also some reports that say it'll be released on PC too, but there's currently no official confirmation from Bandai Namco.

Power Rangers Super Megaforce Review https://www.gameskinny.com/gdnay/power-rangers-super-megaforce-review https://www.gameskinny.com/gdnay/power-rangers-super-megaforce-review Thu, 01 Jan 2015 18:13:51 -0500 Matt_Paprocki

Video games do not often feature live action, rubber suited baddies clashing into boxy, multi-jointed robots. The medium uses polygons, maybe sprites. The effect is different.

Still, Super Megaforce is at least celebratory of those bouncy, foreign, and extravagant television shows in its own way. Power Rangers have been with us for twenty years now, so cue the anniversary march. Suitably, twenty plus Rangers from various editions of the luckily successful series (including the Mighty Morphin' variety) bring themselves together to slice through the renegade forces of Armada. In reality, their animations shift and voices change. That's it.

No No Power Rangers

Each member spouts banal positivity in text boxes - “We can do it as a team,” or, “With togetherness, we're unstoppable” - a marked message for kids if delivered so lumbering with laissez faire attitude as to render this episode-esque story comatose. Armada attacks, a boss is fought, it grows, Zords play slice and dice.

Power Rangers have been with us for twenty years now, so cue the anniversary march.

Most of it is filler. Only half of the puny levels offer any conversation as a reminder of the Ranger's do gooder-ness. Designs are so flat and stumpy as feel chopped into separate sections if only to wait for loading screens to pass, extending Super Megaforce's apparent value. Using a plodding leveling system with each Ranger requiring separate attention only further slows any progress.

Through those mistakes, it's the enthusiasm that's missing. Forced and weak AI partners nonchalantly fire laser beams or take a swipe at Armada thugs, a perfect slate of actions to represent how apathetic Super Megaforce is with its existence. Sword strikes barely constitute a world saving desperation, and while the ponderous speed of Zord versus monster disputes manages to build scale, a rock/paper/scissors methodology all but squelches thrills in the decisive outcome.

Megafarce

Japan's Super Sentai television has a heart of flamboyancy. Suited actors flop in earnest, miniature buildings are tackled, and punctual martial arts fill space until mammoth robots with equally mammoth swords can burst into flames to scorch the latest opposition. Only the inherent goofiness can supersede the energy invested into the whiz-bang visual splendor.

In interactive form, these Rangers merely exist as color coded, side scrolling placeholders sans personality.

That is arguably why Power Rangers video games, despite a number of clean 16-bit brawls, never found their cut of the Ninja Turtle beat-em-up character market. Super Megaforce is only the latest to falter for the same reason. It's a complicated problem actually, whether the hokey Americanization of Japanese TV elicits such a feeling or otherwise. The builds, the cameras, the editing; it's all dynamically specific in tonalities and proud of its international weirdness.

In interactive form, these Rangers merely exist as color coded, side scrolling placeholders sans personality. Those cartoon characters which lived in Konami's X-Men, Simpsons, and Ninja Turtles had the benefit of their animated fore bearers who could fabricate expressions, strain themselves, and comically react. Stretching and exaggerating live action (doubly so with faces buried in a helmet) loses the appeal.

So red, blue, green, yellow, pink; those are the character choices. They don't have names, they don't have style, they don't have spunk. Whatever lure Saturday morning Super Megaforce episodes carry (with its pirate theme) is utterly wiped from this portable run. That's why the Mighty Morphin' Rangers can co-exist with the litany of Overdrive and Jungle Force throwbacks: They're all one in the same which isn't very Super Sentai at all.
