Spelunky 2 adds to the Spelunky HD formula more than it detracts, meaning features like the Kali's sacrificial altar are still intact and just as impactful as ever. Sacrificing to Kali using the altar may not seem like a worthwhile endeavor at first glance, but it can be a key facet in making your runs last longer.

So let's go into why you should sacrifice to Kali, and then we'll talk about how to curry her favor for the ultimate reward: the Kapala.

Why Sacrifice to Kali in Spelunky 2?

Offering Kali sacrifices nets you some random items every few points you garner with her, but all her gifts pale compared to the Kapala.

What is the Kapala?

The Kapala is an empty skull that fills with blood as you beat on enemies, provided you touch the blood that spews from them. Heck, even your own blood on-hit will contribute to the Kapala's well.

You will be granted one heart once the skull fills with blood, after which the whole cycle will start again. There is no limit to how many hearts you can accumulate.

How to Sacrifice to Kali in Spelunky 2

Garnering favor with Spelunky's own goddess of death means you've got to offer up some blood for her to feast upon, but it doesn't have to be yours.

Any enemy that can be knocked out and picked up, and even the maiden (probably dog) can be placed on the Kali's altar either alive or dead to gain points towards the Kapala and its lesser rewards.

The points of Kali's favor are a hidden value, but it's important to know that living bodies grant more points than dead ones.

You're in luck if you find an altar early in a run, and sometimes it can be present in the first two or three levels. If you're serious about getting the Kapala, you'll need to seek it out and be mindful of any enemies you could potentially knock out or kill and carry over to the altar to be sacrificed.

Sacrificing the maiden (which, again, is probably a dog) to Kali is more important than carrying to the exit for that paltry 1 heart, as the Kapala can be a figurative fountain of youth for your character. Don't pass up opportunities to sacrifice the maiden if they arise and you don't have the Kapala yet.

Sacrificial Altar Use After Getting the Kapala

Don't ignore altars after you get the Kapala. You can use them as a free source of blood, provided you place a sacrifice on it.

Since bodies explode when sacrificed, this is a great way to add additional blood to your cup and gain some hearts. There are also further rewards for sacrifices after the Kapala, though none are as good as the greedy skull itself.

Spelunky 2: How to Find the Black Market https://www.gameskinny.com/w2yub/spelunky-2-how-to-find-the-black-market https://www.gameskinny.com/w2yub/spelunky-2-how-to-find-the-black-market Fri, 25 Sep 2020 13:42:19 -0400 Ashley Shankle

Spelunky 2's Black Market is packed with wares for you to spend your hard-collected coin on, from weapons to random useful items. Luckily, finding the Black Market is almost the same as in Spelunky HD, though it lacks one item that had players seek it out in HD.

There are three steps to finding the Black Market in Spelunky 2, so let's get to it.

Step 1. Find the Key in 1-2 or 1-3

On your adventures through 1-2, keep an eye open for a lone gold key. It can be found anywhere on the level, but it might not even be there at all. It may be on 1-3 instead.

There are no indicators that the key is on a level, but if you find the room with the ornamental chest on either 1-2 or 1-3, the key will be somewhere on that same floor.

Step 2. Open the Ornamental Chest

In Spelunky HD, the chest containing the Udjat Eye was simply found out and about on a level. In Spelunky 2, it will only be found in a sub-room on the same floor you find the key.

One way to tell if a sub-room is the one containing the chest with Udjat's Eye is that there will be only one entrance, unlike most other sub-rooms. It's a fairly clear giveaway that it's the one you're looking for.

The Udjat Eye serves two purposes, the first is to allow you to enter the Black Market and the second is that it highlights gems and occasionally items hidden in the ground.

You're obviously trying for the first purpose, but the second one is handy for stocking up on money as you traverse deeper and into the jungle.

Step 3. Find the Black Market

This step is nearly identical to hunting down the Black Market in Spelunky HD. You'll need at least one bomb for this, but probably two.

Dive into the jungle and be aware of the Udjat Eye icon at the top of your screen, next to your money total when you step into each level. Between 2-2 and 2-4, you'll hear a beep and the Udjat Eye will open. This means the entrance to the Black Market is somewhere on that floor.

Make your way through the level and keep your ears open — the Udjat Eye will start to beep when you get near the entrance, and pick up in intensity the closer you get. The beeps are fairly hard to ignore if you're very close.

Position yourself where the beeping is most furious and place a bomb. If you're lucky, you'll only need to use one bomb to uncover the entrance to the Black Market.

The entrance can be hidden just about anywhere on a level, obscured by dirt. Bring some Glue along so your bombs are sticky, just in case the entrance is somewhere especially inconvenient.

In Spelunky HD, this was your primary method of acquiring an Ankh for a free revival, though the method for getting one in Spelunky 2 is far different. Nonetheless, the wares found in the Black Market are worth the trip, particularly if you're in a run for the long haul.

Spelunky 2 Four-Leaf Clover: What Does It Do? https://www.gameskinny.com/nqfe2/spelunky-2-four-leaf-clover-what-does-it-do https://www.gameskinny.com/nqfe2/spelunky-2-four-leaf-clover-what-does-it-do Thu, 24 Sep 2020 15:28:45 -0400 Ashley Shankle

Items old and new in Spelunky 2 can aid you in your quest to the bottom of the ruins, but some are more obtuse than others. One of which is the Four-leaf Clover, an item new to the sequel. And it may be more useful than you think.

You may have been lucky enough to run into a pilfering Leprechaun by now during your runs, but it's very possible you didn't kill it if it scurried off with your stolen item(s) to somewhere you couldn't get to safely.

The Leprechaun can be defeated, of course, and should you strike it down you will receive a Four-leaf Clover.

Reportedly, you may also obtain a Four-leaf Clover from some events, though I cannot comment on that myself for now.

The question is what does the Four-leaf Clover do exactly? The game doesn't say outright, so what good does it do you?

What the Four-Leaf Clover Does in Spelunky 2

This nifty item brings a quality of life change to a run that some potential fans have been clamoring for since Spelunky HD: an elongation of the ghost timer.

With the Four-leaf Clover in your inventory, the ghost timer will be extended by a full two minutes. This means you have an extra two minutes per floor to explore before that big spooky guy comes and ruins your good time. Provided you don't hit one of those ghost vases, anyway.

Having some extra time to explore is a boon for some, but for score chasers or particularly greedy players the Clover might not be so useful.

Just as in Spelunky HD, in Spelunky 2 the ghost turns all gems it passes through into valuable diamonds — though the ghost is extra aggressive here in the sequel, and the playerbase has yet to work out effective ghostrunning strategies for high scores.

Though the Four-leaf Clover might not be useful for score chasers, for the average player its ghost-stalling ability is a huge benefit not to be ignored. It's worth the effort to chase Leprechauns down and give them a few good lashes to add this item to your inventory.

Spelunky 2 Guide: How to Remove Poison https://www.gameskinny.com/unxs3/spelunky-2-guide-how-to-remove-poison https://www.gameskinny.com/unxs3/spelunky-2-guide-how-to-remove-poison Mon, 21 Sep 2020 13:33:38 -0400 Ashley Shankle

Each run in Spelunky 2 brings its own set of challenges, some of which are totally new to Mossmouth's roguelite sequel. One of these new obstacles to overcome is the poison status effect, which can seem like the end of a run if you're not sure what to do.

Luckily, poison isn't too hard to remove. First, let's go into how poison works before touching on how to remove this pesky status effect.

What Poison Does in Spelunky 2

Once you're poisoned, you will take one heart of damage every 30 seconds. If you're at four hearts, that means you've got two minutes to remove poison. Chances are you have less than four hearts when you get poisoned, though, meaning you'll have even less time to cleanse yourself.

How to Cure Poison in Spelunky 2

There's nothing like the love of a dog... or whatever else you have your maiden set to.

To cleanse yourself of the health-draining poison, you'll need to escort the maiden to the exit of the floor alive, just as you normally do when trying to get your HP up, and leave.

This can be a stressful endeavor when you're already poisoned and have no idea where the maiden might be on the floor. You'll have to search for it fast and make a dash for the exit once you have it in your grasp. Chances are you won't be able to find it on the next floor if you're already poisoned and low on health.

Go through the exit and the maiden's usual healing kiss (licks) will free you from your poisonous shackles and you can continue on with your run as normal. Albeit with lower health than before you were poisoned, probably.

Poison is only one of the many surprises Spelunky 2 has in store for classic and Spelunky HD players, and luckily it's one of the easier ones to handle.
