Blizzard may be working on a HD version of the first StarCraft according to rumors. The remaster will be announced next month, followed by an extensive unveiling at BlizzCon in November, again according to the rumors.

The rumor originates from the Korean website iNews 24, which, according to Kotaku, is one of the better gaming sites in the region. The Korean website reported to have multiple sources confirming that StarCraft HD is in the making. The remaster will have the same gameplay as the original at a higher resolution and with improved menus.

iNews 24 reports that StarCraft HD will be announced next month during the StarCraft 2 world championships, with Blizzard making frequent announcements during the championships. Last year, the developer made a release date for the Legacy of the Void expansion for Starcraft 2 and they showed a trailer.

An extensive revealing of StarCraft HD will be shown during BlizzCon, held in California on 4th and 5th November.

StarCraft is one of the most popular strategy games ever, especially in South Korea; where even 18 years after its release, the game is still in the top ten most played games in the regions Internet cafes.

More Starcraft 2 Fixers Arrested https://www.gameskinny.com/iv76h/more-starcraft-2-fixers-arrested https://www.gameskinny.com/iv76h/more-starcraft-2-fixers-arrested Sat, 30 Apr 2016 04:43:57 -0400 _Glitchchic_

Recent investigations into the competitive gameplay of Starcraft II have led to eleven people being indicted -- eight of whom were arrested in Korea, and one of whom remains at large.

Supposedly, as reported by Gamasutra, individual competitors were being paid to lose matches. One player received approximately $64,439, and others as much as $30,716. The Changwon Regional Prosecution Services withheld the names of the arrested players, but did release simple descriptions such as:

Progamer “A,” one of the greatest StarCraft 2 players at present, and Zerg player with the most premier tournament championships

The reports of this investigation are following October's arrest of team Prime's head coach Wae-Sik "Gerrard" Park, professional players Byeong-Heon "YoDa" Choi and Jong-Hyuk "BBoongBBoong" Choi on similar grounds.

Suspected brokers and financial supporters of these incidents have also been arrested, including, eSports journalist Jun-mo "Enough" Seong. Certain players involved, like YoDa, have received lifetime bans from the Starcraft II scene. KeSPA, the Korean eSports organization, reports that they will take legal action against them for having damaged their reputation.

In South Korea, Changwon Regional Prosecution Service's special investigation division released the prosecution report of a StarCraft II match-fixing scandal. According to the report, eight (including the programmer) have been indicted and arrested, two have been indicted but not arrested, and one individual is still fleeing. Changwon Prosecution's first investigation was in October 2015 when they arrested nine illegal gambling participants. This is the second investigation on large eSports match-fixing.

Connection chart of prosecuted defendants according to the report

One of the players (marked "A") received 70 million won (about $60750.90 USD) for losing two games while the other (marked "J") received 30 million won (about $26036.10 USD) for losing one game. This money came from financial backers via the brokers. Both of the players are professional gamers from Korea.

Since the Changwon Regional Prosecution Service is protecting privacy of the defendants, their names are only represented in letters. With the exception of one of the financial backers (marked "K"), who is fleeing from prosecution, all of the participants were indicted.

As eSport is becoming subject to illegal gambling issues like traditional sport games, there will be law enforcement to regulate eSport gambling and cheating activities too.

Starcraft: Brood War and Diablo 2 are Getting Updated https://www.gameskinny.com/hktlm/starcraft-brood-war-and-diablo-2-are-getting-updated https://www.gameskinny.com/hktlm/starcraft-brood-war-and-diablo-2-are-getting-updated Thu, 14 Apr 2016 03:46:42 -0400 Ian Ilano

It looks like Diablo 2 and StarCraft: Brood Wars are getting their first update in years.

Developer Clásico hinted at the possibility of an update that will finally address some concerns that players have had for years. The update will bring both games up to today's standards, offering support for higher resolutions and fixing the numerous bugs and compatibility issues present.

In his post regarding Diablo 2, he stated:

"Overall, to give you some more insight on where we are currently for Diablo II, we would love to bring a higher resolution such as WarIII with its 1920 X 1080. As of right now, we're primarily working on bug fixing and compatibility with multiple operating systems.

Doesn't mean it's not on our radar though, we would all love D2 at a higher resolution."

Diablo 2

Diablo 2 currently only supports 800x600. The low resolution hinders playability.

While it seems it will be awhile until official word is released regarding a Diablo 2 update, StarCraft players can rejoice at the possibility of an update coming soon.

"Hey hey!

I will say that, as of right now, Starcraft IS being worked on."

StarCraft 2 is one of the most competitive games out there, and StarCraft: Brood War is still being played competitively today. It makes sense that Blizzard would prioritize updating it first.

Regardless of which game gets the update sooner, it's always exciting to hear developers still continuing to support their games and its player-base.

Blizzard releases preview for new Allied Commanders map "Chain of Ascension" https://www.gameskinny.com/0428z/blizzard-releases-preview-for-new-allied-commanders-map-chain-of-ascension https://www.gameskinny.com/0428z/blizzard-releases-preview-for-new-allied-commanders-map-chain-of-ascension Thu, 24 Mar 2016 08:47:27 -0400 David Fisher

Patch 3.2.0 for Starcraft II is currently in testing, but Blizzard has already gone public with its latest co-op map "Chains of Ascension." This map will be familiar for Legacy of the Void players as it uses the same map mechanics as the "Rak'Shir" mission in which Artanis had to aid Alarak in his duel with Ma'lash. Instead of Alarak, however, commanders will be aiding his second in command, Ji'nara.

"Ji’nara, First Ascendant of the Tal’darim and Alarak’s second in command, has been challenged to the rite of Rak’Shir by a splinter faction that continues to worship Amon. If their mysterious challenger emerges victorious, Amon’s minions will be poised to seize control of the death fleet from Alarak and return its might to Amon’s grasp. Provide Ji’nara with the psionic support she requires to defeat Amon’s champion and put an end to this insurrection once and for all."

- Flavor text, via Starcraft II official blog

While the premise of the map is similar, the map is not. Various changes have been made to the original iteration of the Rak'Shir duel - much like how Lock & Load was changed.

The original "Rak'Shir" map from Legacy of the Void's campaign.

The new "Chains of Ascension" map. Note the expanded map size, higher unit density, and doubled natural expansions.

The concept of "Chains of Ascension" is simple. Build up an army, and keep as many units as possible next to the two Tal'darim combatants to push your ally to the end of the map. While the mission's description is easy, it is not as relaxed as it sounds as the enemy will likely send more than enough of its own units to push you and your ally into a corner.

Those who are feeling adventurous can also try their luck at slaying the Slayn Elementals. These creatures will roam the map, and if you are unfortunate enough to run into them while the enemy is pushing their Champion down the lane, you may be caught in the crossfire. Take these out as soon as possible for experience points bonus as well as an easier time commanding the action.

While an official release date hasn't been announced for patch 3.2.0 yet, it will likely be released alongside Nova Covert Ops on March 29th. Until then, stay strong commanders!

Starcraft II: Nova Covert Ops pre-purchases are now open https://www.gameskinny.com/i6csh/starcraft-ii-nova-covert-ops-pre-purchases-are-now-open https://www.gameskinny.com/i6csh/starcraft-ii-nova-covert-ops-pre-purchases-are-now-open Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:35:12 -0500 David Fisher

It's time to pull out your wallets again, Starcraft II fans! Starting today, Nova Covert Ops has officially opened up for pre-purchase. As if Blizzard wasn't already hurting their customers' wallets enough with Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and the recently released Legacy of the Void.

Announced at Blizzcon earlier this year, Nova Covert Ops is a series of DLC missions for Starcraft II. These mission packs act as standalone campaign missions that can be downloaded without owning any of the Starcraft II expansions. This means that anyone solely interested in Nova Covert Ops can play it with just the Starter Edition client of Starcraft II.

As pre-purchase bonuses, customers will receive a new Nova Terra portrait, as well as a new female "Covert Ops Ghost" skin. In the past these skins, have been somewhat questionable since they only changed the in-game unit and not the unit portraits. But if the Legacy of the Void Digital Deluxe is anything to judge the new skins by, we can expect the portrait to be changed and fully voiced.

The question is: will this be enough to get people to pre-purchase?

Each mission pack can also be bought separately after they are released for $7.49 USD each. However, you can pre-purchase all three of them them for only $14.99 USD. The mission packs themselves will have three missions each, so it might be worth considering the pre-purchase for the $7.48 you will save - if not for the female ghost skin and Nova portrait.

Will I be pre-purchasing this content? Probably not. However, my personal desires for more Starcraft content does make me feel like buying it despite my better judgement. After all, the Terran Ghosts do admit that the female ghosts get all the better equipment...

What do you guys think about this? Is Blizzard risking alienating their already diminishing Starcraft fanbase? Do you believe that this will actually bring back more Starcraft fans? Do you wish that they had announced Starcraft: Ghost instead? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!

US GOP debate has lowest viewership yet... possibly because of Fallout 4? https://www.gameskinny.com/o0oes/us-gop-debate-has-lowest-viewership-yet-possibly-because-of-fallout-4 https://www.gameskinny.com/o0oes/us-gop-debate-has-lowest-viewership-yet-possibly-because-of-fallout-4 Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:03:20 -0500 David Fisher

The Republican party had their presidential debate yesterday, and it had some of the lowest ratings in this election campaign so far. According to New York Daily News the debate only pulled in 13.5 million views - this compared to 25 million and 23 million for the first two GOP debates. That's almost half of the viewership! But who is to blame?

As we all know, yesterday was a pretty hot day for video game releases. Coming to our TV screens and PC monitors yesterday were big name titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, and the crowd favorite Fallout 4 all simultaneously released on November 10th.

While it may seem unlikely that 10 million gamers decided not to watch the GOP debate, we have to remember that video game players - particularly the age of majority ones - are pretty active in politics. In fact, we're typically the first ones to cry out injustices when they're carried out.

So maybe - just maybe - the American political debate that was held on the same day Fallout 4 was released might have had a little bit of sway in that number. I mean, the game's pretty darn great despite its glitches, and it's not that hard to speculate that more than a few gamers have been glued to their screens since release. I know I have.

Of course, this isn't the only possible explanation; maybe Americans are just running out of steam already in this election cycle.

What do you guys think? Have you been following the presidential campaigns? Did Fallout 4, Legacy of the Void, or Tomb Raider stop you from watching this debate? Do you have a completely different theory for why there were less viewers? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!

Starcraft 2 patch 3.0 is out, and not everyone's happy https://www.gameskinny.com/lbg4m/starcraft-2-patch-30-is-out-and-not-everyones-happy https://www.gameskinny.com/lbg4m/starcraft-2-patch-30-is-out-and-not-everyones-happy Tue, 06 Oct 2015 11:42:43 -0400 David Fisher

Last week I covered the new UI changes coming to Starcraft II patch 3.0, and as of October 6th the patch has gone live. However, not everyone is happy about the changes, mostly due to the graphical strain it is putting on their computers. Just check out this mixed reaction to the game's update in the all-chat box.

The General Chat has been filled with positive and negative feedback, both of which are on the extreme ends of the spectrum

While this might seem like a simple case of "stop using a potato computer" as some players are saying in the chat, many are claiming that this is not the case. While I'm personally a fan of the new graphical changes, I sadly have to agree that there is certainly something wrong with the new UI.

Before getting into the details of why the situation isn't so great, let me just give a quick list of my computer's specifications:

CPU: AMD A8-5600K APU with Radeon HD Graphics (Quad-Core 3.6GHz)

RAM: 12 GB DDR3

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 280X Series Graphics Card

OS: Windows 10

Now, I'll admit that my computer hasn't been top of the line for a few years (if ever). However, anyone who has built a rig for themselves should know that these parts aren't exactly low-end by today's standards either. But here's the funny thing about patch 3.0: I'm getting serious hanging issues on the main menus, even on default recommended settings. In fact, when I ran the game for the first time after the patch I had such high graphical lag that I couldn't exit the game.

There is a bit of a workaround, though. It seems that the patch has rewritten a great number of the original files in the game. As such, the client is scrambling to rearrange those files on your hard drive to load in a decent amount of time (or something along those lines... I'm not a programmer so don't quote me on this!). As a result of... whatever is going on the first time you load, the future startups should run much smoother.

As for people with computers that are much less powerful than my own... Consider picking up some new parts. A custom rig ranging around $500 or so should be able to play this game no problem.

For those running the game on older rigs, here're some screenshots showing what the game's new menus look like running on the highest possible settings!

Artanis leaps into action on the title screen!

The classic Brood War-style campaign menu returns.

For those wondering what it looks like when you click on a campaign...

And lastly, the beautiful multiplayer menu.

While it might take some getting used to, the changes to the UI are objectively for the better. Some older machines might not be able to run the game anymore, but it's quite likely that many of those machines were likely barely able to run the game in the first place.

EDIT (20/10/2015): Based on the reactions in the comments section, and the outcry on Twitter, the issue appears to be related to CPU compatibility with the new 64-bit option. As a new experiment, try turning off the 64-bit version via the Battle.net client. The 32-bit client appears to run much better on my machine so far.

EDIT (07/11/2015): Patch 3.0.3 has come out and fixed even more issues. More details found here. If players are still having connection, gameplay, or other issues, contact Blizzard here to make a complaint.

What do you guys think about the new UI? Is your computer having issues with the menus after restarting the game? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

Legacy of the Void gets 3 new Allied Commanders https://www.gameskinny.com/7dfdu/legacy-of-the-void-gets-3-new-allied-commanders https://www.gameskinny.com/7dfdu/legacy-of-the-void-gets-3-new-allied-commanders Tue, 29 Sep 2015 05:27:53 -0400 David Fisher

Almost two months ago, Blizzard Entertainment released information on the upcoming Allied Commanders mode for Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void. Recently, the Starcraft II team released three new heroes that will be taking the helm in co-op missions: Swann, Zagara, and Vorazun.

The Commanders

Swann

Swann - the in-house mechanic aboard the Terran Battlecruiser 'Hyperion' - is the first of the three Allied Commanders announced.

Swann is an interesting alternative to Raynor as a Terran commander in the sense that he does not rely on infantry units. Actually, Swann can't build a barracks in the first place. Instead, Swann focuses on Factory and Starport units, as well as constructing turrets. Expect to be seeing a sizable army of Seige Tanks rolling out when playing this commander.

Oh yeah, he also starts out with the Drakken Laser Drill. You know, that one you used blew up a temple in Wings of Liberty? Yeah. That drill.

Zagara

The rogue Brood Mother that thought she could stand up to even the un-infested Queen of Blades is also joining the ranks of the Allied Commanders.

Much like Kerrigan, Zagara will be a heroic unit that is controllable during missions. Unlike Kerrigan, however, Zagara's focus is on spawning and training small units as opposed to building powerful ones. As such, Zagara's strategy will be much like she was in the game - spawn as many Zerglings and smaller units to overwhelm the enemy, as opposed to growing massive Ultralisks.

Zagara herself will be able to provide unit and economy buffs during missions while also being able to summon lesser heroes such as Hunter Killers.

Vorazun

Vorazun acts as the Protoss's newest Allied Commander. While we have heard nothing about him, we can be sure that he will play a pivotal role in Legacy of the Void, much like how Swann and Zagara were important in Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm.

As evident by his splash art, Vorazun is a Zer'atai Dark Templar. While Artanis bombards enemies on the battlefield using the Spear of Adun, Vorazun's abilities are focused on using Dark Templar cunning and stealth to his advantage.

One of the unique opportunities that Vorazun has over Artanis is the return of Brood War's Dark Archons, as well as having abilities such as stopping time. As such, Vorazun aims to be one of the more versatile commanders in the co-op mode.

More to come!

According to Blizzard's blog post, Allied Commanders will have many more heroes to choose from as the game heads toward release, and hinted at possibly adding more characters after launch. I for one eagerly await this mode since the co-op modes are mostly limited to Arcade games, and online multiplayer. Having a mission-based cooperative mode is an improvement.

What do you guys think of the new Allied Commanders? Are there commanders you would like to see in the Allied Commanders mode? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

More Blizzard novels on the way for Warcraft: Legion and Legacy of the Void https://www.gameskinny.com/ge2ty/more-blizzard-novels-on-the-way-for-warcraft-legion-and-legacy-of-the-void https://www.gameskinny.com/ge2ty/more-blizzard-novels-on-the-way-for-warcraft-legion-and-legacy-of-the-void Thu, 24 Sep 2015 05:28:58 -0400 Perchance to Game

Last week Blizzard announced a partnership with publishing giant Random House, LLC. The team-up heralds the arrival of new novels for each of its franchises next year, the first of these being from the Warcraft universe. Corresponding with the next World of Warcraft expansion, Legion, everyone’s favorite demon hunter, Illidan Stormrage, is going to take center stage. World of Warcraft: Illidan by William King is currently slated for March 2016.

"[The novel] will show that he's not just a villain," declared Chris Metzen, SVP of Story and Franchise Development.  The story is an opportunity to explore the "character and his history in a way that that fans haven't seen before."

Illidan will be on a "super heroic mission" to end the Burning Legion once and for all. If anything, this confirms the novel's tie-in to Legion, so the book will likely be released alongside or shortly before the expansion, potentially giving us a ballpark release date for the next chapter in World of Warcraft.

Current information on the expansion and its new Demon Hunter hero class indicates that players starting as the new class will begin their game sometime before the current WoW timeline and find themselves in Illidan’s base at The Black Temple, where the Lord of Outland will send them on a seemingly suicide mission to Mar'dun, the demonic prison world created by Sargaras, the lord of the Legion, before his corruption. Could this be expanded upon in the upcoming Illidan novel, referring to the “heroic quest” alluded to by Metzen?

“At Blizzard we don’t just make games, we create universes," said James Waugh, Director of Story Development, and the partnership with Random House will mean "we're going to....really explore all of our IPs."  Particularly, after Azeroth, Blizzard intends to take readers to the Korpulu Sector with a Starcraft novel by New York Times best-selling author, Timothy Zahn, known for the popular Star Wars series, Heir to the Empire. The plot will deal with the aftermath of the primary Starcraft II storyline, which concludes with the Legacy of the Void expansion to be released next month.

The company has a long history of supplementing its already quality in-game story telling with a high quantity of novels, short stories, comics, manga and even short films. These alternate mediums "provide a deeper level of engagement beyond the gameplay," explained Metzen, "You're entering the realm of imagination."

Which universe and character or story arc would you like Blizzard to explore next?

It was an exciting weekend for the Starcraft 2 eSports scene. Over the weekend, 8 players partnered up to become one player in the very first Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void Archon Mode tournament.

Over one long Saturday Bomber, MMA, viOLet, MaSa, HuK, MC, DongRaeGu, and True fought it out to see which teamed worked together the best. Players partnered up amongst themselves through all sorts of reasons from convenience of finding a player who plays the same race to members of the same pro teams. However, in the end it was two players who teamed up because they were friends that brought it all together.

HuK and MC were able to defeat Bomber and MMA in the first matches of the day winning 3 out of 5 games. After that was viOLet and MaSa, which was a quick first two matches, but after a huge 3rd game, HuK and MC were able to seal the win.

In the Final round, they had to face Bomber and MMA one last time. Bomber and MMA were able to win in the first round however, the following three rounds went to HuK and MC to become champions of Red Bull Battle Grounds 2015.

As for how this team came to fruition HuK himself had requested MC come out of retirement for one last tournament not only because he knew that MC was a great protoss player, but also because they were close friends back when HuK was playing in Korea for Team Liquid. With all the different ways that players had partnered up, it seems that the bond of friendship was able to create the ultimate Archon.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor - Digital Deluxe
\n

Personally, I've never understood why anyone would pay to play an MMO like World of Warcraft. However, if World of Warcraft is among your Battle.net collection, then I guess you might as well pick up the digital deluxe. However, the rewards for this are abysmal compared to other digital deluxe packs. In my opinion the Hearthstone card back, the Diablo III pennant, and Starcraft II portraits perfectly reflect what I think about World of Warcraft: it's a $80 rip-off.

\n

But hey... if this tickles your fancy, go for it. Who am I to judge?

\n

This marks the end of the cross-game rewards currently available to Battle.net users! Feel free to check back in the future for any changes if Blizzard announces new games or content!

Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void - Digital Deluxe

\n

This digital deluxe also comes with the Starcraft II Anthology, but it comes with significantly more than the Heart of the Swarm bundle. Cross-game rewards in this bundle include: a card back for Hearthstone, a probe and Protoss-themed armor for Diablo III, Zeratul's ship as a mount for Heroes of the Storm, and an Archon battle-pet for World of Warcraft. It's once again $40 to upgrade to Digital Deluxe, but it's well worth it if you're missing the digital deluxe bonuses for Wings of Liberty or Heart of the Swarm. It's also great if you're just pre-ordering Legacy of the Void.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm - Digital Deluxe

\n

At this moment the only way to get the Heart of the Swarm digital deluxe is by getting the Starcraft II Anthology Digital Deluxe. This comes with a hydralisk and zergling banner sigil and the Queen of Blades's wings for Diablo III, and a baneling pet for World of Warcraft. While the rewards are nice, they're hardly worth forking out $40, so only get this if you really want it.

Hearthstone x World of Warcraft

A very generous man by the name of Paul Sams donated over 1,500 items out of his personal collection to The Strong National Museum of Play. Spanning through the items include gems from Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft

During his time as COO of Blizzard Entertainment and president of the French-based Blizzard Entertainment SAS group, over the course of two decades, Blizzard products have made the way into his collection and now he's giving them to the community.

The Past and Future of the Products

Paul Sams joined Blizzard back in 1996, serving nearly two decades with the company to date. Rising from director of business development before gaining his current position in 2004, Sams was able to see some of Blizzard's best projects come to the light of day.

When choosing a place to donate his private collection to, Sams decided on The Strong National Museum of Play in New York as the perfect location so generations in upcoming decades could learn from Blizzard's products and see how gaming has changed.

"This collection holds a very dear place in my heart and I wanted to ensure that the materials would be properly preserved for many decades to come. The dedicated and talented team at The Strong were the obvious choice to care for the collection. Most importantly, I wanted to ensure that broadest audience of gamers and fans of entertainment and play would be able to share in this extensive collection of gaming history."

 - Paul Sams of Blizzard Entertainment SAS

Current Projects Ongoing

Though Legendary Pictures is taking the reigns on the World of Warcraft movie, Blizzard developed the popular Warcraft game, that has an expected movie release in June of 2016. Earlier this week a 40-second trailer was leaked on the internet and information regarding the leaked trailer can be found at "Warcraft 2016 movie trailer leaked - check it out before it's taken down"What do you think of the private collection that Sams has donated? Will it become a popular exhibit at The Strong National Museum of Play? Share your thoughts below on the special items revealed below.

This brings us to the end of our top 10 list of sword-swinging divas. I have got to admit... unlike the Girls with Guns list I did last week, this list was actually quite difficult to come up with. It's great that there's a decent selection of swordswomen, but the problem is that not many of them are well known or playable.

I guess this is where I leave it to you, readers! What other sword-maidens can you come up with? Where would you put them on this list? Do you disagree with my placements? Leave your opinions and ideas in the comments section below!

#1: Nariko - Heavenly Sword

\n

When people think of swordsmen with a god complex, over-the-top fighting, and twin chained blades they often think of God of War's Kratos. When angry feminist extremists ask me why there isn't a female "God of War", my answer used to be the most obvious: "Athena's Revenge" doesn't exactly fit the character. However, ever since 2007 I've been able to avoid getting slapped across the face by pointing at this beauty here.

\n

Nariko is the oppressed heroine of Heavenly Sword, a character who has literally spent her entire life being belittled by her clan on the grounds that ever since her birth she "should not have been." Everyone believed Nariko to be a curse, a portent of doom, and she eventually accepted this as truth. However, this would not stop Nariko from becoming the savior of her people by wielding the Heavenly Sword, fully aware of the fact that it would consume her soul as a result.

\n

Aside from essentially being a copycat in terms of gameplay to Kratos from God of War, Nariko is one of the strongest female protagonists in the history of gaming. Why? Because she literally takes the place of the male hero without any modifications for the sake of gender roles. When she says that a deity "would be reborn, in the body of a mortal man" she is quite literally quoting the archetype of a Kratos-like hero. As such, she is the embodiment of the female power fantasy.

\n

Nariko - to date - is the only female character who does this without a love interest, without losing a loved one, nothing. She doesn't even have the tired cliché of a woman using her cunning or agility over brute strength. She slaughters her enemies with brute force alone, and does this because it is her duty as the hero. Nothing will stand in her way of saving her people. Plain and simple.

\n

Since Nariko is such a stellar representation of what a warrior lady should be like, she earns the spot of #1 on this list.

#2 Bastila - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

\n

If Darth Revan is the most powerful Jedi in the history of the Star Wars universe, then Bastila Shan is the most powerful female Jedi. Why? Because she was the one who took Revan down during the Jedi Civil War.

\n

Bastila Shan is by definition one of the most force talented Jedi in the Star Wars franchise. Able to use the power of Battle Meditation, Bastila is capable of micro-managing entire armies while simultaneously demoralizing their enemy. On top of that, Bastila is a skilled Jedi Sentinel, capable of adeptly wielding force powers while combining them with various lightsaber techniques.

\n

While fighting alongside her commander - and later lover - Revan, she is an unstoppable force. To this day, she is considered one of the greatest Jedi of the Old Republic. Her legacy has continued on for generations, survived by Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

\n

Considering the fact that she is arguably the second most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars universe, Bastila Shan earns the place of #2 on our list of female warriors.

#3: Sonya - Heroes of the Storm/Diablo III

\n

While the Barbarian's official name in Diablo III can range from 5up4h_S14y3r to Barbie thanks to the name-your-own-hero system, her canonical name is found in Heroes of the Storm as Sonya.

\n

Sonya is a simple barbarian. She sees demon, she hits it until it is dead. Sonya's dream date consists of hunting demons, collecting legendary items - usually only to smelt them at the armory later, and killing the Lord of Terror, Diablo. Her other interests include: smashing boxes, destroying tombstones, and defiling sacred temples... or maybe that's just my play-through.

\n

In any case, Sonya definitely gets my seal of approval for being a stand-up kind of gal. With a huge list of abilities used to smash, decapitate, and otherwise mangle demon hordes, I can't imagine a better candidate for the 3rd on this list.

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/d/7/c/d7c42bbf5b8f42838fdd65a724c74540.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/d/7/c/tiny_d7c42bbf5b8f42838fdd65a724c74540.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81896","description":"

#4: Rayne - Bloodrayne

\n

7 years before we got the sexy power-trip video game that was Bayonetta, we had Rayne of Bloodrayne origin.

\n

With Rayne, what you see is what you get. Besides her obvious sex-appeal design, Rayne is a confident, sarcastic, intelligent, and somewhat deadpan character. A dhampir (half-human, half-vampire) brought up as an assassin, Rayne's number one talent is killing absolutely everyone in the most brutal way possible. This means tearing people in two, spinning them around on her blades and cutting them up into pieces, or simply taking a bite into her prey and drinking their blood. She is not your professional assassin type though, for constantly flirting or taunting her opponents is basically second nature to her.

\n

As a result of her dhampir blood, Rayne has a number of vampiric abilities such as feeding on her enemies, enthralling opponents, super-high reflexes, and a number of strength enhancements.

\n

With this repertoire of skill and power, Rayne earns a spot at #4 on this list.

#5: Momohime - Muramasa: The Demon Blade

\n

Momohime is the female protagonist option for Muramasa: The Demon Blade. According to the instruction manual, Momohime is a "princess of Narukami who has been possessed by a demon", the demon in question being Jinkuro. A talented warrior, Momohime's abilities are only enhanced after she is possessed by the spirit of Jinkuro - a fallen demon warrior who seeks to reclaim his demon blade.

\n

Over the course of her journey, Momohime slays countless hordes of Japanese mythological creatures and warriors using the Oboro Style of fighting. With a demon blade of her own, she is a nearly unstoppable powerhouse of destruction. However, she does lose some points due to the fact that her personality - outside of her fusion with Jinkuro - basically boils down to protecting her betrothed, and others she loves.

\n

As such, Momohime gets the 5th spot on this list.

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/9/2/2/922f5cc9fc8492bb01e248e2dc03591a.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/9/2/2/tiny_922f5cc9fc8492bb01e248e2dc03591a.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81887","description":"

#6: Hildegard von Krone - Soul Calibur IV

\n

Hildegard stands as one of the most respectable characters on this list. Unlike the greater portion of female characters in the Soul Calibur series, Hilde is not sexualized in the least, choosing to wear gratuitous amounts of armor instead. Not only that, but Hilde uses a unique fighting style in the game that blends together quick swordplay and a spear. Hilde is also one of the few newcomers to the Soul Calibur series that has fought both the Soul Calibur veterans, and the newcomers since Soul Calibur IV was the last game to feature many of the original cast members.

\n

Oh, and she's technically fought Ezio Auditore, Yoda, Darth Vader, and Starkiller too... so I guess there's that.

\n

This set of accomplishments places Hildegard von Krone at #6 on this list.

"},{"image":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/92bbf39cabaf65f64a7162a515788fd0.jpg","thumb":"http://images.gameskinny.com/gameskinny/92bbf39cabaf65f64a7162a515788fd0.jpg","type":"youtube","id":"6730","description":"

#7: Impa - Hyrule Warriors

\n

While Princess Zelda displays her skills with a sword in Hyrule Warriors as well, it's Impa who best represents women in a battlefield setting. Cool, collected, and able to effortlessly wield a sword almost twice her size, Impa is the toughest of the tough. In Hyrule Warriors, Impa is constantly on the vanguard against Ganon's forces. Whether it be the fire-breathing King Dodongo, The Imprisoned, or even Ganon himself, Impa is ready to take them down.

\n

Since Impa usually takes the back seat in Legend of Zelda games, I'm glad to see what Team Ninja did to her character in Hyrule Warriors. This iteration of the classic Legend of Zelda character gets the spot of #7 thanks to her over-the-top delivery of enemy horde desolation.

#8: Ciri - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

\n

Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, the Lion Cub of Cintra (ain't that a mouthful?) is the secondary protagonist of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and is a talented sword-fighter, much like her adopted father, Geralt. She tends to prefer a faster-paced style of combat, dashing between enemies before striking them with her two-handed sword, making her a lethal foe to face. However, her abilities are somewhat limited as she only has the ability to quickly teleport around.

\n

I could go on to rant about her backstory, but it is so convoluted that I probably wouldn't be able to do it justice. You can, however, check it out on this wiki or, you know, play the game yourself.

\n

Considering her limited skills, and her somewhat basic concept design, Ciri gets the spot of #8 on this list.

#9: Lyndis - Fire Emblem 7

\n

If I had to choose a swordwoman to best represent the females in Fire Emblem, I would have to choose none other than Lyndis. While Lucina is the fan favorite nowadays, Lyndis is much better, and for a number of reasons at that.

\n

Let's talk about her character first. Lyn is a 15 year old young woman from the plains of Sacae. While living there, Lyn has fought off numerous bandit attacks after her mother and father were slain. It was not until a wandering tactician came about that she eventually learned that she is the granddaughter of the Marquess of Caelin (basically the king). In her time traveling across the war-torn landscapes of the Fire Emblem world, Lyn has fought numerous assassins, archers, knights, and even a dragon! That's quite the rep for someone who's younger than her fandom rival, Lucina.

\n

Then there's the matter of plain old statistics. While Lucina has a slightly higher luck and resistance rating at level 10, Lady Lyndis pretty much doubles or at least surpasses all of Lucina's other stats at the same level. These differences only get further separated once the two become great lords at which point Lyndis actually triples Lucina's resistance while everything else gets doubled. When equipped with the Mani Katti, Lyn's critical hit ratio would rise so high that she would basically make minced meat out of Lucina before she even had the chance to blink.

\n

Besides, who could possibly turn down a girl with this awesome critical hit animation?

\n

\n

All of this lands Lyndis at #9 on the list.

#10: Wonder Woman - Injustice: Gods Among Us

\n

In Injustice: Gods Among Us, Wonder Woman is both the bad guy, and the good guy. Depends on which world, I guess. What is constant, however, is that she kicks butt. Hard.

\n

Wielding a sword and a shield, Diana is able to take on just about every other superhero in the game. In fact, she is such a great warrior that she is the only one the alternate world Superman could possibly imagine replacing his long-time love interest Lois Lane with. Considering her abilities are almost identical to the Man of Steel's, who can blame him?

\n

Considering the fact that Wonder Woman is a superhero (meaning she's just about invincible thanks to plot armor) there might be some questioning as to why she doesn't rank higher on this list. There are two simple reasons: the first is that she's not technically a video game character, and second is that she is better known for fighting with her fists. Want to argue against me on that? Go ahead. But this Amazon is only getting the position of #10 on this list.

Honorable Mention: Sarah Kerrigan - Starcraft

\n

Okay, so technically Sarah Kerrigan doesn't use blades in game. In fact, she rarely uses them at all. But we do know two things about Kerrigan: when Narud takes on her form to fight her, he uses a Psi-Blade, and when she is the Queen of Blades she uses her exceedingly sharp claws to cut through the tough armor of enemy tanks. While these don't necessarily count as "swords" or "blades" per se, Kerrigan gets an honorable mention on the grounds that if Wolverine can get on a list with sword masters, then so can she!

\n

Besides, what kind of list about the "Queens of Blades" would this be if the Queen of Blades herself wasn't on it? Huh?

\n

Last week I did a top 10 list of gun-totting women in video games, but after a bit of research I found an even less represented group of females: sword maidens! Just about every top-10 list about masters of the blade in video games has a slew of beefed up males. Few of them - if any - have women! Seriously guys, women with swords are awesome too, right?

\n

So today I'm going to fix that void, and fill it up with this top 10 list of sword-buckling heroines! To fit the criteria of this list, the character must rely on some form of bladed weapon during combat (excluding daggers), and be able to take on at least one enemy twice their size or multiple enemies at once.

\n

With our criteria set, let's take a look at the Top 10 Video Game sword-swinging divas!

That's all folks!

\n

This is the end of my Top 10 Girls with Guns list. It's great to know that there's such a diverse set of women in video games that are able to stand among the guys in the big-leagues in terms of firepower, but I'm sure everyone can think of their own favorite gun-gals.

\n

This is where I turn it to you! What other gun-totting girls in gaming can you come up with? Where would you place them on the list? Do you disagree with any of my claims or placements? Leave your opinions and ideas in the comments section below!

#1 Samus Aran - Metroid

\n

Some of you might be unimpressed by the Metroid protagonist taking the #1 spot, but hear me out because Samus Aran just might be the most dangerous gun-girl on this list. In fact, her abilities not only rival, but surpass Bayonetta's in combat, and here's why.

\n

Unlike Bayonetta, Samus's weaponry has no drawbacks. Should Bayonetta die, her soul is forfeit. While this doesn't matter too much, there is one thing that does: Samus's suit never tries to kill her. In Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta's own demon summoning tries to kill her. Had Jeanne not stepped in the way, Bayonetta would be having a nice date with the devil as her soul gets eaten by demons. Samus? No such problem.

\n

Okay, so maybe that's not fair, but lets look at their weapons. Samus has Power Bombs and the Hyper Beam. Both weapons are capable of penetrating walls, armor, and killing just about everything except for Samus. Even if we take the Hyper Beam out of the equation, Samus's Ice-Plasma-Wave-Long Beam of doom is enough to take out Bayonetta's demons. How do we know this? Because both demons and angels in Bayonetta bleed, and if there's anything that Metroid fans know it's that if it bleeds, Samus can kill it.

\n

If that's not enough of a hard sell for the toughest critics, consider this: Samus has a tendency to not destroy temples or cities. No... Samus destroys planets. Over her career Samus has completely destroyed several planets, namely: Zebes, SR-388, and Phaaze. She also technically destroys Dark Aether if you want to count that too.

\n

Tack on Samus's numerous suit upgrades, energy tanks, and weapons and you have one of the most over-powered heroines in the history of gaming. With such a track record, Samus Aran gets the honor of the #1 spot on this list.

#2 Cereza/Bayonetta - Bayonetta

\n

This sultry, sexy, and over-the-top gun-slinging babe is perhaps one of the most controversially discussed females in gaming. Why? Because even feminists can't seem to decide if she's a derogatory or empowering character.

\n

While I'll leave that debate to someone else, I will say that Bayonetta certainly earns a #2 spot on this list. Having saved the world from apocalyptic destruction on more than one account, our little "Cherry" is one of the most lethal women in this list. With the powers of Hell at her disposal, Bayonetta has taken on - not one - but two gods, multiple archangels, several archdemons, and Rodin (basically Satan himself) in her short career.

\n

Bayonetta's arsenal is nothing to scoff at either. If you thought dual-wielding guns was impressive, Bayonetta quad-wields a series of swords, pistols, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers. On top of that she has the ability to summon archdemons at will. While she is technically the hero of her series, she tends to be just as destructive as her opponents. Bayonetta has destroyed planes, airfields, skyscrapers, towns, cities, and more without much effort at all.

\n

But there's always a bigger fish. That leaves us with the #1 gun-gal on our list...

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/3/f/7/3f7ed2005883afe3afd3fab57d2cf956.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/3/f/7/tiny_3f7ed2005883afe3afd3fab57d2cf956.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81227","description":"

#3 Commander Shepard - Mass Effect

\n

Commander Shepard is perhaps one of the most powerful - and empowering - females on this list. Not only can she look as realistic, unrealistic, beautiful or... homely... as you want. She can also be as flirtatious or as dangerous as you want. But we're not here for her social life. Instead, we're here for the weapons of mass effect (get it?) that are at Shepard's disposal.

\n

In example, Shepard is capable of using a number of weapons types ranging from space pistols, to shotguns, assault rifles, and snipers. However, it's Mass Effect 2 in particular that Shepard carries around the most heat. Weapons like the M-920 Cain nuclear launcher or the M-490 Blackstorm are literally weapons of mass destruction. This puts her above Nova Terra since she can pretty much launch a miniature nuclear bomb at any time.

\n

While this is great and all, Shepard herself is not exclusively a woman, nor is she a character of her own. Since players have to decide what kind of woman (or man) Shepard is, she gets placed at #3 on this list.

\n

But hey, for any fanboys or girls she certainly earns my #1 spot as the most fun at parties though, especially when Wrex and Grunt are around.

\n

#4 November "Nova" Terra -Heroes of the Storm

\n

Another member of the Blizzard's universes, November "Nova" Terra is among the most lethal. Imagine this: your job as a government assassin is not only to take out notorious criminals like the terrorist "Jim Raynor", but also to take out the unruly Protoss, and colossal enemies like the Zerg Ultralisk. Sounds like a difficult job, right? Not for Nova.

\n

As a Ghost operative, the Dominion Army is Nova's weapon. Her ability to call down nuclear missiles, Battlecruiser Yamato Cannons, and siege tank strikes puts her authority and destructive capabilities well beyond those of her predecessor, Sarah Kerrigan (when she was still a ghost that is). She also has the benefit of having a permanent cloaking generator, something that is only granted to the highest-ranking Ghost operatives.

\n

That not enough to convince you? Well how about this: she is the only Terran Ghost known to mind control her opponents. That means no one is safe from her reign of terror.

\n

With this stellar set of abilities, Nova Terra gets a well-deserved #4 slot on this list. Now if only she could get her own game...

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/5/c/e/5cece8c6b20b670bf8cd57b99433d48d.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/5/c/e/tiny_5cece8c6b20b670bf8cd57b99433d48d.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81242","description":"

#5 Sgt. Bama "the Hammer" - Heroes of the Storm

\n

What do you do when you are pulled into an otherworldly arena, and forced to do battle against demons, angels, aliens, and magical creatures? If you're Sgt. Bama "the Hammer" Kowalski, blow them to hell with your Crucio-Class Siege Tank, that's what!

\n

While Sgt. Hammer isn't exactly the most impressive gal on our list in terms of enemies killed, she does sport some impressive firepower and destructive capabilities. Just about everyone and everything that gets in the way of her siege tank is dead. This is without mentioning her arsenal including: spider mines, arclite siege cannons, her blunt force gun, and good ol' napalm strikes.

\n

As a result, Sgt. Hammer climbs the ranks and demolishes the previous gun-girls with a #5 standing.

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/b/2/5/b259f2a61e4790e53341ff835eff46b3.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/b/2/5/tiny_b259f2a61e4790e53341ff835eff46b3.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81240","description":"

#6 Lara Croft - Tomb Raider

\n

Lara Croft is by no means superhuman. In fact, Lara is just another explorer in search of treasure and other ancient goodies. However, she often finds herself in situations that are supernatural in nature. In the Tomb Raider series, Lara is known to face off with a number of of mythological creatures such as minotaurs, Japanese oni, Egyptian gods and more! Even when she's not fighting other-worldly creatures, Lara has a habit of running into one too many Tyrannosaurus Rex.

\n

Since she also has a bad habit of destroying more tombs than she raids, Lara earns her spot at #6.

#7 Jill Valentine - Resident Evil

\n

Jill Valentine is a force to be reckoned with. A survivor of the S.T.A.R.S. Mansion Incident, Jill has been known to tango with the dangerous T-Type Nemesis bio-organic weapon developed by Umbrella Corps. She has also been known to use just about any weapon from a lowly Beretta pistol to rocket launchers and flamethrowers depending on the situation. Her abilities in combat were only increased as a result of the P30 device attached to her chest in Resident Evil 5.

\n

Jill is certainly one of the more dangerous ladies on our list - both as a life-saving ally, and a life-threatening enemy. However, she is not one of the most destructive. Her abilities for survival and combat earn Jill Valentine the #7 spot on our list.

"},{"image":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/b/6/3/b63a9e9a94e9326c8495c0636ef9063a.jpg","thumb":"http://s3.amazonaws.com/gameskinnyop/b/6/3/tiny_b63a9e9a94e9326c8495c0636ef9063a.jpg","type":"slide","id":"81236","description":"

#8 Alyx Vance - Half-Life 2

\n

Alyx is perhaps the first crush of many young gamers. Appearing in Half-Life 2 (and the subsequent episodes), Alyx has fought against the alien Combine in an effort to save humanity. Mixing it up with a skill-set that includes: CQC, pistol and shotgun use, coming back from the dead, and causing dimensional tears alongside Gordon Freeman, Alyx is a force to be reckoned with.

\n

Among Alyx's kill-count are a number of headcrab zombies, antlion guardians, and presumably larger Combine war machines. Paired up with her personal pet-project (I'm really sorry for the puns today, guys), she is the ultimate survivor in the Half-Life universe. Her intelligence, reputation, and general bad-assery earn Alyx Vance the spot of #8 on this list.

#9 Claire "Lightning" Farron - Final Fantasy XIII

\n

While Lightning is known for taking down enemies that are larger than her on a daily basis, her skill-set is one of the least explosive in the Final Fantasy franchise. In fact, her exclusive skill - Army of One - is basically nothing more than her slashing and shooting an opponent multiple times despite it sounding like a much more impressive ability.

\n

What's worse is that she is almost always accompanied by a team, and among those team members is Vanille, a spell caster whose basic abilities can at times be more destructive and visually impressive. However, for her ability to fight much larger enemies on a consistent basis (and her gunblade technically being a gun) Lightning earns the #9 spot on this list.

#10 Ellie - The Last of Us

\n

Ellie is the female lead in the PlayStation exclusive title The Last of Us. In her battle for survival, Ellie has used a variety of weapons to defeat hordes of fungal-infected zombies. Among her arsenal is a pistol that never runs out of bullets (gameplay mechanic, I know), molotovs, hunting rifles, shotguns, and more. To top it all off? She's only 14 years old!

\n

While this is impressive and all, Ellie only makes this list because she is able to fend off adult-sized humanoid enemies. Having never even fought the larger bloater zombies by herself, Ellie earns herself the spot of #10 on our list.

Honorable Mention: Chell - Portal

\n

Portal's Chell is quite the intelligent little devil. Navigating through GladOS's puzzles, confronting GladOS with nothing more than the Portal Gun, and destroying Aperture Labs - only to do it all again in Portal 2! If that's not enough of a resume for this gun-toting lady in heels (excuse me... Long-Fall boots) then maybe the fact that she's got the guts to leave Aperture into the open world of the Post-Half-Life series will sell you on that. Remember, she did wake up hundreds - if not thousands - of years after the first game according to this timeline.

\n

While Chell is by far one of the more interesting characters on this list, her Portal Gun barely qualifies under our "firearm" criteria. However, her clever use of GladOS's own rocket launcher and turrets to destroy the evil computer mastermind gives her just enough destructive tendencies to earn her an honorable mention on this list.

The realm of video games is perhaps one of the best places to find women of all shapes and sizes. One of those shapes and sizes just so happens to involve destroying just about everything that gets their way with serious firepower. There's just something about these gun-toting gals that draw in male and female audiences alike, whether it's the sex-appeal or in some cases a female power-fantasy (something that is severely lacking in the market).

\n

Today we'll be looking at the 10 most powerful girls with guns in the video game universe. To fit the criteria the character must rely on these firearms for the greater portion of combat, and destroy at least one enemy that is twice their size.

\n

With the criteria in check, let's take a look at the Top 10 Video Game Women with Serious Firepower!

Forgetting a man like Wallace Shawn? Inconceivable! Just wait until you hear his roar.

\n

There is no one role than can define Wallace Shawn because he has performed such a wide variety of roles, and everyone knows him in at least one of them, even the minor ones. His voice is just that iconic and his face that memorable. Now, he plays the stout knight Manny in King's Quest.

2. Christopher Lloyd - Old King Graham

\n

Christopher Lloyd's voice, face, and knack for crazy characters are some of the most memorable pieces in Hollywood. He has always been known for being that crazy uncle that everyone loved to watch.

3. Michael Gough - Larry / Wente Fey

Gough has made his mark in several animated roles like Gopher of Winnie the Pooh, and Raphael from the 1990's television show Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after Rob Paulsen left the role. However, Michael Gough's real memorable works are part of the video game sphere.

Blizzard MIGHT work on new Warcraft RTS once finished with Starcraft II https://www.gameskinny.com/ndd8q/blizzard-might-work-on-new-warcraft-rts-once-finished-with-starcraft-ii https://www.gameskinny.com/ndd8q/blizzard-might-work-on-new-warcraft-rts-once-finished-with-starcraft-ii Wed, 12 Aug 2015 07:12:37 -0400 Austin Widmyer

Fans of the Warcraft series were delighted to hear that there may be hope for the RTS franchise. In a statement made at GamesCom 2015, Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void producer Tim Morten had this to say:

"It’s very rewarding for us to hear that there’s demand out there for more RTS content in the Warcraft universe so once we’re done with Void I think we’ll get together as a team and talk about what would inspire us to work on next. There’s no question, though, that we’ll consider Warcraft, StarCraft, or even new ideas. Anything is possible."

It has been twelve years since we last got a Warcraft RTS. Ever since World of Warcraft came out and become such a hit, those who preferred the RTS to the MMO began to give up hope of ever seeing a proper Warcraft RTS ever again. This statement, however, at least gives us hope that somewhere down the line, there will be another Warcraft game. That is more than we can say for some series (looking at you, Half-Life).

This makes us wonder about the current state of Blizzard's cash cow World of Warcraft. The most recent expansion has failed to retain many of the once-subscribers to the MMO. In fact, some unpopular features have been driving players away.

It is no secret that WoW's subscribers have dropped to 5.6 million, the lowest it has ever been. Could Blizzard be teasing a possibility of Warcraft IV in an attempt to win back the favor of their fans? We will have to see in the years to come.

And there you have it! Admittedly, Blizzard's recognizable roster is getting rather small without reaching into some seriously underground or forgotten heroes. While there are some notable runner-ups, like Warcraft's Lady Vashji or Diablo's Amazon or Necromancer, it's tough to come up with characters that aren't just random NPCs from World of Warcraft. If these 5 heroes aren't what Blizzard has in store, then I guess we'll just have to wait and be pleasantly surprised.

What about you, readers? What heroes would you like to see in Heroes of the Storm? What skills, abilities, or passives do you think they would have? Leave your ideas in the comments section below!

Lord Archimonde - Warcraft

\n

Archimonde was the big-bad-guy at the end of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos' campaign. In that game, Archimonde was responsible not only for ruling over the Scourge and the Burning Legion, but also for single-handedly destroying the city of Dalaran. In the final mission of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, players had to stop this powerhouse from reaching the World Tree. However, Archimonde would not make this an easy feat. Despite the Orcs, Night Elves, and Humans working together to stop him, Archimonde simply walked right through each of their bases, killing anyone in his way.

\n

In Heroes of the Storm, Archimonde would undoubtedly act as a warrior-class hero, with a touch of specialist antics. Dark Portal could be used to summon demons in the same fashion as Azmodan. Finger of Death would be his high-damage single-target spell, and he would also have a passive bash in his arsenal.

\n

Rain of Chaos would act as his heroic ability, summoning multiple infernals that would come crashing down for initial splash damage before running about and destroying enemy forces. That, or maybe he could make a sand castle like he did in Warcraft III before smashing it and watching an enemy building collapse.

Grom Hellscream - Warcraft

\n

Grom was designed for Heroes of the Storm, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he made an appearance sooner rather than later. In Warcraft III, Grom's first ability was Wind Walk, which allowed him to become invisible and move faster until he attacked. Mirror Image, on the other hand, allowed Grom to summon 3 illusions that did no damage, but it also allowed him to dispel any negative buffs on him. Grom's passive skill, Critical Strike, also granted him a 15% chance to do up to 4 times his base damage.

\n

By far, Grom's most interesting skill is Bladestorm. His ultimate (or Heroic Ability for Heroes of the Storm's sake) made him completely invulnerable to magic while dealing great amounts of damage to enemies near him as he spun around in a tornado.

\n

Since Grom recently returned to us in Warlords of Draenor, I think it would only make sense to add him to the Heroes of the Storm roster sometime in the near future.

Fenix - Starcraft: Brood War

\n

A Protoss warrior from the original Starcraft game, Fenix is the first Protoss hero we encounter during the campaign mode. He is also a character with the third longest screen time, appearing in just about every single campaign after Episode III: The Fall, which focuses on the Protoss race. As a Zealot, Fenix was responsible for the defense of Aiur against the Zerg onslaught. However, after he was wounded in battle he was placed in a Dragoon Exoskeleton as a means of continuing his duty to his homeworld.

\n

In Heroes of the Storm, Fenix would likely take the form of a Dragoon, seeing as Artanis already appears to be acting as a Zealot. As for his role, Fenix could take on the honor of being the game's first warrior-class hero with a ranged attack. His skills would be tricky to figure out, but maybe he could do something different by being a character with only passive buffs? It would certainly make sense lore-wise, and he would make a great hero for new players - just like he did for Starcraft players almost 18 years ago...

Kyle "Blackthorne" Vlaros - Blackthorne

\n

Speaking of the SNES, Blizzard's first game under the name of Blizzard Entertainment was a strange game known as Blackthorne.

\n

Kyle Vlaros isn't your average gun-totting, 'roid junkie mercenary. He's a gun-totting, 'roid junkie mercenary from the planet Tull who is out for orc blood on his journey to reclaim his rightful throne from the evil king Sarlac. That's right...even before Starcraft and Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment was mixing guns and medieval warriors as if they belonged together.

\n

Kyle "Blackthorne" Vlaros was meant to be in Heroes of the Storm. His shotgun works perfectly as an auto-attack, while hover bombs could be used to stun and damage enemies. Other items like the levitator could help close the distance between him and enemy heroes, or the wasp-bomb could be used to attack from across the map. These skills would make him viable as either an Assassin or Specialist role.

Jake Badlands - Rock n' Roll Racing

\n

Before Blizzard Entertainment got its signature name, it was Silicon & Synapse - a game company founded by freshly graduated University of California students: Michael MorhaimeAllen Adham and Frank Pearce. While Blizzard has already released one of its old Silicon & Synapse trios - The Lost Vikings - they have completely looked over one of their classics: Rock n' Roll Racing's Jake Badlands.

\n

Hailing from the distant planet of Xeno Prime, Jake Badlands raced against evil aliens while dodging laser fire in an attempt to win interstellar gold! His game also featured rock n' roll hits like Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" and Deep Purple's "Highway Star". If that isn't enough to sell this character, his car was equipped with twin laser cannons, rockets, and a jet booster!

\n

How he would play as a character in Heroes of the Storm is beyond me, but it would be great to see Blizzard acknowledge another of its old SNES hits.

Blizzard has done a great job adding a massive roster of characters to their hit MOBA Heroes of the Storm, but there are several characters that have been seemingly overlooked by the gaming giant. With several new heroes revealed at Gamescom, there are some Blizzard All-Stars that are feeling a bit like they have been left out of the loop. In this list we'll look at some characters who are just dying to enter the fray - literally for some!

\n

While they may not be the most famous characters, they are characters that will spark some fond memories in long-time fans of Blizzard games. So without further ado, let's begin!

Starcrafts cartoon series to parody Starcraft: Brood War https://www.gameskinny.com/u0pc9/starcrafts-cartoon-series-to-parody-starcraft-brood-war https://www.gameskinny.com/u0pc9/starcrafts-cartoon-series-to-parody-starcraft-brood-war Sat, 08 Aug 2015 11:09:58 -0400 David Fisher

Fans of the Starcraft II parody series Starcrafts and Blizzard Entertainment's original Starcraft: Brood War game will be excited to know that Carbot Animations has officially announced Starcrafts: Brood Wars. This new mini-season will last 7 episodes with a Back to the Future theme, starting on September 5th, 2015.

For those who don't know, Carbot Animations has been creating animations based upon the popular Blizzard game Starcraft II since 2012. Each sitcom-styled episode depicts cute stylized verisons of in-game units to spoof common strategies and mechanics used in Starcraft II competitive play. Since its origins, Carbot Animations has branched out into other Blizzard titles such as Heroes of the Storm, World of Warcraft, and Diablo III. The animator has also had a successful Indiegogo campaign that will allow him to star his lovable cartoon characters into a Starcraft II mod.

Those who would like to watch the Starcrafts series - or other Carbot Annimations spoofs - can find it on Carbot's official Youtube channel. Others who are interested in the cartoonified Starcraft II: Starcrafts Mod can find more information here.

This question goes out to the Starcrafts fans: what Starcraft: Brood War situations would you love to see parodied in Starcrafts: Brood Wars? Leave your opinions in the comments section below!
