If you’re wondering where to plant the Tree of Life in Skyward Sword, you're not alone. Getting the seedling is fairly straightforward, but the game is fairly vague about what to do with it once you do.

If you’re stuck trying to find an essential part of the Hero’s Song, you’re in the right place. Our Skyward Sword Tree of Life guide explains how to get the seedling and where to plant it so you can move on in your adventure.

Reviving the Thunder Dragon

Skyward Sword's yellow Thunder Dragon.

Getting the seed is a fairly straightforward, if lengthy, process. Head into Lanayru Caves, and work your way toward the Lanayru Gorge. You’ll see a conspicuous circle near the gorge’s center. This is what remains of the Thunder Dragon, and lucky for you, Time Stones can bring it back to life — for a little while.

The next steps involve shepherding a minecart carrying a Time Stone through the gorge until it can reach the dragon’s remains. This is more of a chore than a challenge, but the way forward is always clear.

Where to Plant the Tree of Life

Tree of Life after being planted.

Revive the dragon and listen to its story. Then take the path to its east, and you’ll find the seedling. Head back into the sky, and drop down in Faron Woods next. Go into the Sealed Temple near where Groose is, and you’ll find the ideal spot for planting the seedling.

Do that, then return to your time through the time gate. Go back to the Sealed Temple, and retrieve the fruit from it. Give it to the dragon, then claim your prize: the third part of the Hero’s Song.

Skyward Sword Crystal Ball Location: Where to Find the Fortune Teller's Crystal Wed, 28 Jul 2021 14:03:33 -0400 Josh Broadwell

The Skyward Sword crystal ball quest is a short detour that involves the fortune teller and pops up roughly halfway through the game. It is an easy way to get some Gratitude Crystals.

After sealing The Imprisoned the second time, head back to the Skyloft Bazaar. You’ll see the fortune teller is no longer at their booth. Our Skyward Sword crystal ball guide walks you through how to start the quest and where to find the crystal.

How to Start the Crystal Ball Quest

Map showing the fortune teller's house in Skyloft.

Speak with the fortune teller at their home in eastern Skyloft. Their house is next to Gondo's, the scrap shop owner. The fortune teller will tell you about the origin of their crystal ball and mention you can find a new one for them if you’re so inclined.

You are, because Gratitude Crystals. You can't finish Batreaux's quest without gathering every Gratitude Crystal.

Ignore Fi’s offer to make the ball a dowsing item, since you won’t need to hunt for it.

Crystal Ball Location

Head back to Eldin and the bird statue outside the Earth Temple. While digging for Eldin Keys, you may have noticed a target above one of the stone ledges. Go to the corner opposite where you found the first key piece, and dig until the air geyser appears.

Glide up, turn around, and use your Clawshot to grapple over to the target. The crystal ball is at the edge of the Earth Temple. Examine it and have Fi call Scrapper to haul it back to Skyloft.

Visit the fortune teller’s house again to finish the quest and get five Gratitude Crystals, plus a discount on fortunes.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Windmill Propeller Location Mon, 26 Jul 2021 19:52:14 -0400 Josh Broadwell

If you’re looking to fix the Skyward Sword windmill propeller and trying to find its location, get ready for a few detours. The quest has two stages and requires you to repair Gondo’s little friend before you can actually get what you’re looking for.

Then you have to dowse to find it. But fortunately, you’ve already visited the Windmill Propeller location — you just have to dig it up. Here’s everything you need to know about the Skyward Sword propeller.

Fix Scrapper the Robot

Gondo fixing his robot, Scrapper, on a workbench as Link stands by.

The first step is fixing Gondo’s scrap-collecting robot. Speak with him in the Bazaar at the workbench, and he’ll tell you to collect Ancient Flowers. These grow in a few key places in Lanayru Desert.

Ancient Flower Locations

There are three areas you can get the Ancient Flower, but these two are the easiest. The first is near the southern-most bird statue near the desert’s entrance. Activate the Time Shift stone, and climb up the vines that appear.

Exit the Temple of Time and go to the eastern edge of the gorge there. Activate the Time Shift stone, then gather the two flowers using your handy beetle.

Windmill Propeller Location

A purple Ancient Flower floating above Link's outstreatched arms.

Take the flowers back to Gondo, and you’ll see an amusing cutscene between Scrapper and Fi. Now, when dowsing, you can call Scapper to haul things back to the surface for you.

Head to the Eldin Region and the Earth Temple. The spot you’re looking for is where the first Eldin Key piece is hidden. Go there, use your dowsing, and tell Fi yes, you want Scrapper to come and collect the windmill propeller.

Now is the easy part. Watch the cutscene unfold, then use the Bellows to activate the windmill.

That’s everything you need to know about the Skyward Sword windmill propeller, but be sure to check out our other Skyward Sword guides for more tips.

The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword Eldin Key Piece Locations Mon, 26 Jul 2021 17:17:27 -0400 Josh Broadwell

The Skyward Sword Eldin Key pieces puzzle is one of the more frustrating aspects of the second dungeon. It requires some backtracking across most of the Eldin region and, on top of that, you need dowsing to find the actual pieces.

At least, you needed it until you landed here. Our Skyward Sword Eldin Key pieces guide points out where to find each piece.

The map below shows the locations for each of the pieces. Below that, we go into more detail about how to find all five pieces.

Map of the Eldin Volcano showing the locations of all five Eldin Key pieces marked in red.

Key Piece 1

The first piece is very close by. Facing the temple, turn left, and walk toward the edge of the stone floor. There’s a crack in the ground on your left. Dig there to get the piece. You can carry on down the path and dig up an air flow to find a Goddess Cube on the ledge above if you want.

Key Piece 2

Face south from where you found the first piece. Destroy the tower, then slide down and dig out Eldin Key Piece number 2.

Key Piece 3

Head back to the temple entrance, and face away from it toward the sand slide. You’ll notice a broken wall on the left (marked by an X in the image above). Hurl a bomb flower at it, then run down into the small passageway. The third key piece is at the end of the passage.

Key Piece 4

Link standing before an Eldin Temple bridge over a lava pit.

This one takes a bit of effort. Go around the passage north of the temple and deal with the tower there. Follow the path along a ledge, and then leap over to the vines and work your way up. Extend the bridge by pressing the button at the top, and get ready to move fast.

The next room you enter is superheated, which means you’ll catch fire. Dash through the room (don’t go up to the next level), and you’ll enter a series of sand ramps. Stay to the right so you can catch an air draft and land on the platform where the fourth piece is waiting.

Key Piece 5

Hop back down and follow the path around. You’ll eventually see a bomb-able wall, so chuck a bomb flower at the spot marked with an “X,” and head inside to grab the final piece.

Skyward Sword Paper Quest Choice Guide Mon, 26 Jul 2021 12:39:38 -0400 Josh Broadwell

The Skyward Sword paper quest is one of the game’s lengthier side tasks. It even has a branching ending depending on whether you opt for the toilet paper route or if you’re a decent human being and finish Cawlin’s letter the proper way.

Whatever your choice, it’s worth completing to get more Gratitude Stars for Batreaux. Our Skyward Sword paper guide walks you through both branches and tells you where to get the toilet paper.

Skyward Sword Toilet | How to Start the Toilet Paper Quest

Skyward Sword HD toiler paper? Well, only if you want it to be

You won’t be able to solve the bathroom mystery until after clearing the Earth Temple and defeating the Imprisoned the first time. You’ll also need to finish the Lost Child quest, where you find Kukiel at night by visiting Batreaux’s shack under Skyloft. You can finish that quest after clearing Faron Woods the first time.

When all that’s done, talk to the man in the cafe at the Bazaar or speak with Henya in the Knight’s Academy kitchen. It doesn’t matter which. Either will tell you about the odd, haunting noises echoing throughout the academy at night.

That’s your cue to head back to Link’s room on the first floor and sleep until night.

Skyward Sword Toilet | Where to Find PaperTalking to Cawlin in Skyward Sword HD.

Once night falls, venture into the hallway again. Go to the bathroom door on the first floor; it’s the room right outside the kitchen. You’ll hear a mysterious voice asking for paper, of which you have none right now.

There’s nothing more to do here, so head back to bed.

When dawn comes, find Cawlin, Groose’s short-ish blue-haired crony. He’ll spin a sad tale of unrequited love and ask you to deliver his letter to Karane.

Now you have a choice to make.

Skyward Sword Toilet | Cawlin’s Letter

You can be nice and take Cawlin’s letter to Karane in the Academy classroom. Then you’ll need to find Pipit in the hallways, and if you’ve spoken with Karane before, you already know how the love triangle turns out. This completes the quest and gives you five Gratitude Crystals.

Completing the paper quest in Skyward Sword HD.

Skyward Sword Toilet | Toilet Paper

The other option is the more interesting one. Wait until night again and take Cawlin’s letter to the toilet and the now-grateful hand. Speak with Cawlin the next morning, then after he runs away, sleep in Link’s bed until night once more.

Now go to Cawlin’s room to witness a scene between Cawlin and the hand, after which you’ll get five Gratitude Crystals.

The Gratitude Crystal outcome is the same regardless of the choice you make, and you can’t get both. If you do deliver Cawlin’s letter, it’s worth looking up the toilet paper path just to see how it turns out, though.

Skyward Sword Bird Feathers: How to Get Bird Feather and Blue Bird Feather Mon, 26 Jul 2021 10:39:18 -0400 Josh Broadwell

You're probably going to have to do some backtracking if you need to get some hands on bird feathers in Skyward Sword HD. Birds only have two spawn points and actually getting your hands on the feathers can be a trying process.

In this guide we're going to go over where you need to go to get bird feathers in Skyward Sword, as well as how to get them.

Skyward Sword Bird Feather | How to Get the Bug Net

Skyward Sword buying the bug net.

You need a bug net to obtain bird feathers, so head to Beedle's shop.

Despite the village children telling you about Beedle right away, you can’t access his shop until obtaining the Slingshot in Faron Woods. Once you’re back in Skyloft and have a few hundred Rupees, smack Beedle’s bell with a projectile and climb aboard.

He has the Bug Net for sale right away, so you can buy it and head out to Faron Woods again.

Skyward Sword Bird Feather | How to Get Bird Feathers

Pick the forest bird statue when you drop into Faron Woods again, and you’ll drop right next to a flock of birds.

Actually obtaining a bird feather is a slight pain, though. The birds fly away at the slightest movement, so you need to have your net angled just right.

Tilt the right stick (or your Joy-Con if you’re using motion control) to the right and slightly down, so the net is facing out from you. Slowly walk toward a bird until your net is just about touching it, then quickly move the stick (or Joy-Con) to the side.

Skyward Sword how to catch bird feathers.

You should catch a feather in the process.

If you miss, or you want to grab a second and third feather, leave the area and come back to have the birds respawn. The fastest way is running up the log shortcut to the right of the bird statue (not the one directly next to it) and down the sandy hill. Run back up, and the birds should appear in the clearing again.

A flock also spawns at the Sealed Temple grounds.

Skyward Sword Bird Feather | What are Bird Feathers For?

If you were messing around and caught a bird feather on accident, you can use them to upgrade your Sacred Shield, obtainable in the Bazaar after initially defeating the Imprisoned. Visit the Scrap Shop in the Bazaar to upgrade the shield.

Divine Shield

  • Sacred Shield
  • 2 Bird Feather
  • 1 Dusk Relic
  • 3 Ornamental Skull

The Divine Shield can be further upgraded to the Goddess Shield.

Goddess Shield

  • 3 Bird Feather
  • 1 Blue Bird Feather
  • 4 Dusk Relic
  • 3 Monster Horn

Skyward Sword Bird Feather | How to Get Blue Bird Feather

Blue bird feathers are from (surprise!) blue birds. These spawn randomly in Faron Woods or the Sealed Temple. You can also win a Blue Bird Feather on Bamboo Island by getting 26 or more cuts in the challenge there, and the Moonlight Merchant has a blue feather for sale for 300 Rupees.

Skyward Sword Knight Commander Location and Pumpkin Soup Quest Mon, 26 Jul 2021 10:05:28 -0400 Josh Broadwell

One of the first quests you’ll find in Skyward Sword HD is the Pumpkin Soup quest, and to finish it, you’ll need to find the Skyward Sword Knight Commander. The trouble is remembering which of the many NPCs you initially meet is the Knight Commander.

Our Skyward Sword Knight Commander guide covers each step of the pumpkin soup quest and where to find the Knight Commander.

Skyward Sword Knight Commander | Pumpkin Soup Quest

Skyward Sword: Break this candelier.

If you somehow landed here without starting the quest, congratulations! You’ve done a good thing.

Head to Pumpkin Landing on the island southeast of Skyloft, and go inside. You’ll see a slew of Rupees and a Piece of Heart on a chandelier above the crowded table.

Climb the stairs and roll into the wall until the chandelier drops. The inn owner yells at you and demands help paying off the debt. You can just grab the heart piece and run, but it’s worth sticking this one out.

Speak with him again, and he tasks you with delivering the Knight Commander some hot pumpkin soup.

Skyward Sword Knight Commander | How to Get an Empty Bottle

You need at least one empty bottle for this quest. If you don’t have one yet, go back to Skyloft, and speak with the potion merchant in the Bazaar. She gives you one for free (but you’ll have to pay for the potions).

Skyward Sword Knight Commander | Knight Commander Location

Skyward Sword skyloft map.

You’ve spoken with the Knight Commander already. He’s Eagus, the sparring master at the Knight’s Academy.

Dash out of the Lumpy Pumpkin and off the landing, call your Loftwing, and immediately start ascending. Five minutes is plenty of time to reach the Knight Commander, but picking up extra speed this way is a good idea.

Try aiming for the Knight’s Academy when you drop or at least the Bazaar if your aim is a bit off. Dash toward the sparring hall, head inside, and speak to Eagus.

It’s just the first job the Lumpy Pumpkin owner gives you, but it’s worth your time to do the rest. You’ll get, among other things, another Piece of Heart for paying off your debt.

That's all you need to know about Skyward Sword HD's Knight Commander. Take a gander at some of our other The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword guides.
