Activision and Vicarious Vision have teamed up together to remaster the Crash Bandicoot games, as we already know, but the release date is now announced.

On June 30, 2017, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be released on the PS4. It is currently available for pre-order on Amazon, and various other places.

Why Remaster Such An Old Series?

Because the remastered version will include new features such as: a unified menu system, manual and auto-saving, and Time Trials in all three games.

The remastered game will also include the original Crash Bandicoot characters -- redrawn to fit the current graphics of the PS4.

Even the music has been re-recorded for the new release.

Retro Is In

Although they have had to, essentially, recreate the codes for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the developers are trying to keep as close to the original Naughty Dog game as possible.

crash bandicoot, crash bash

Apparently, retro is in. But that's for you to decide.

1. Crash Bandicoot: The N Sane Trilogy
\n

Crash was the perfect mascot back in the early PlayStation days and it's an absolute joy to see him come back just in time for his 20th anniversary.

\n

Developed by Vicarious Visions with assistance from Activision, The N Sane Trilogy is a remaster of the original three games (Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, Warped) originally developed by Naughty Dog.

\n

Vicarious Visions are handling the games with TLC, making sure that they stay true to Naughty Dog's original "vision"

\n

New features are minimal, with new animations and time trials that were originally introduced in Warped, making their way to the first two games.

\n

Crash Bandicoot: The N Sane Trilogy launches June 30 for PS4.

\n

Are you looking forward to these games and will you be picking them up? Let us know!

2. Sonic Mania
\n

Why yes, I am mentioning Sonic again.

\n

Sonic Mania is the perfect love letter to fans of the classic games, featuring the high-speed gameplay the series is known for.

\n

Developed by Headcannon and PadogaWest Games with assistance from Sega and programmers Christian "Taxman" Whitehead and Simon "Stealth" Thornley, (Both known for the enhanced ports of Sonic 1, 2, and CD) the game allows players to adventure through classic "remixed" stages such as Green Hill Zone and new stages like Studiopolis Zone.

\n

The game will also feature the classic elemental shields and giant rings, first seen in Sonic 3.

\n

There's even a reference to SegaSonic Popcorn Shop, an obscure arcade machine from back in the 90s, in Studiopolis Zone.

\n

With the inclusion of classic stages, it'll be interesting to see what other stages we will be revisiting. (Ice Cap Zone from Sonic 3 please!)

\n

Sonic Mania releases in the Q2 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC

3. Yooka-Laylee
\n

Yes, I'm cheating, but since this is technically a spiritually successor to Banjo-Kazooie, I feel it deserves a place here.

\n

As this is being developed by the original developers of Banjo, I'm sure we can expect the same treatment of love and care that went into the original and Tooie.

\n

With how successful the game's Kickstarter was and how much talk it has generated, it wouldn't surprise me if the game becomes a series in its own right and finally gives people an even bigger reason to go out and try even more platformers like this.

\n

I imagine it would also allow people to (Re)discover what once made Rare great by playing Yooka's spiritual older brothers.

\n

Yooka-Laylee releases in April for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

4. Project Sonic 2017
\n

While we don't know much about one of Sonic's upcoming titles, we can guarantee that there will be platforming featured within.

\n

Announced as part of Sonic's 25th Anniversary, the game's setting looks extremely dark, with Sonic witnessing an onslaught from Dr. Eggman/Robotnik's Death Egg robots.

\n

What's more, Sonic is joined by his classic counterpart. Tails, once again. The last time they were seen together was in 2011's Sonic Generations, which was created to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary and was received well by critics and fans.

\n

It's speculated that Classic Sonic will retain his 2D gameplay style that was seen in Generations while Modern Sonic will deal with the 3D side of things.

\n

While more mature Sonic storylines have been received with mixed receptions, here's hoping that this game will deliver something great.

\n

Project Sonic 2017 is expected in Q4 2017 on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

5. Super Mario Odyssey
\n

A new Nintendo console, a new Mario. Makes perfect sense to me!

\n

For the few of you who may have missed the news, Super Mario Odyssey is taking the franchise into new territory, leaving behind the Mushroom Kingdom and heading to locations based on the real world (New Donk City is the new New York City).

\n

Looking at the game's logo, perhaps we'll be travelling around the world to new a different locales. It'd be great to see worlds based on the likes of Australia, Italy (for obvious reasons), and Scotland (Giant Loch Ness inspired Yoshi please!)

\n

You can expect the usual flair from Mario: wall jumps, triple jumps, that sort of thing. What is new is the ability to throw Mario's hat and utilize it to cross large gaps or reach higher portions of each map, making not only level traversal more interesting, but level design more interesting, too.

\n

It'll be exciting to see what other mechanics will be implemented into the game, especially with Mario's new hat abilities.

\n

Super Mario Odyssey is expected Q4 2017 for Nintendo Switch.

2017 seems to be the year of the platforming genre! Over the past few months, we've witnessed a great resurgence of beloved mascots. From Mario to Sonic the Hedgehog, each is coming back with new or reimagined adventures and quests for the modern era. And while many of these will bring a hefty dose of nostalgia with them, each is looking to redefine themselves for a new generation of gamers in some way, shape, or form.

\n

Some releases we have come to expect, while others have come completely out of nowhere (we're looking at you, Crash Bandicoot).

\n

Here are the platforming games that you should be looking out for this year!

Skylanders breaks into the kart racing genre with SuperChargers https://www.gameskinny.com/28u46/skylanders-breaks-into-the-kart-racing-genre-with-superchargers https://www.gameskinny.com/28u46/skylanders-breaks-into-the-kart-racing-genre-with-superchargers Wed, 12 Aug 2015 11:43:32 -0400 Jessa Rittenhouse

It's time to welcome Skylanders into the world of kart-racing. Enter Skylanders: SuperChargers.

With vehicles being introduced to the series, multiplayer kart racing was a predictable move, but the introduction of online racing took the Gamescom crowd by surprise.

Online players have access to six tracks - two each for land, air, and sea vehicles. Four human players and four AI race each course, gathering power-ups that trigger as soon as they're collected from their hidden spots along the track.

Each vehicle comes equipped with a primary and secondary rechargeable weapon that help the player reduce an enemy's life bar. When the life bar is depleted, the player is stunned.

Play online with your friends on land, by sea, or in the air.

Play with your pals

Perhaps even more surprising is the introduction of online multiplayer mode - a move Vicarious Visions intends to make the game feel more like sitting on the couch with a friend. This means if one player changes Skylanders, both are going to see the transition sequence.

Playing it Safe

The Skylanders series has a young target audience, so Vicarious Visions takes the online safety and security of its players very seriously. Players can only invite people on their friends list to play, and they can only use the in-game voice communication system with friends. If your child has two friends that aren't friends with each other, they can't speak to one another.

Many of the series' old characters will be returning, but with entirely new skill trees, it's worth the upgrade to the new figures. Don't get rid of the old ones, though; the new versions won't be compatible with the older games - a move by Activision and Vicarious Visions to those old characters and their toys continued relevance.

Skylanders: SuperChargers releases September 20 for Wii, WiiU, 3DS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and iOS.

Guitar Hero 7 Canned https://www.gameskinny.com/eovdd/guitar-hero-7-canned https://www.gameskinny.com/eovdd/guitar-hero-7-canned Wed, 05 Dec 2012 21:53:35 -0500 Imayen Etim

Ambition got the best of Vicarious Visions and claimed Guitar Hero 7 as a high profile casualty.

Vicarious Visions, who helmed development, planned to nix drums and singing, but add more elements in their place. The guitar, it was revealed, was set to have six strings instead of one stum bar, and an extra button on the neck of the instrument. Unfortunately  however, the prototype models were both shoddily made and expensive -- a fatal combination, according to an anonymous source speaking to Kotaku

"The strings were unresponsive and loose, and the guitars cost a fortune to make. No one could figure out a way to make it so your average Joe could buy one."

The venues were also in line for an overhaul. The dev team aimed for dynamic venue changes numerous times per song. When a song element changed, the venue changed to fit the piece perfectly. However, this and the creation of brand new characters in a brand new style left the game with jacked up looking characters. According to the source, they were left with:

"characters [whose] necks were over a foot long… They all looked like they were punched in the face."

And of the all-important music:

"The game had all of the worst hits from the 1990's. They realized that, with our lack of budget and time, they couldn't get quality music so they bought bargain basement music like 'Closing time' and 'Sex and Candy.' There were some songs in there that had been used at least three times in the GH franchises before. They realized that with a setlist of over 80 songs, a music video unique to each song was out of scope as well. So pretty much every song was in the tomb or the back of the moving truck, with different lighting and camera cuts, and maybe a little graffiti. So they had a game that looked bad, had bad music, had very limited venues, and more was getting cut as time went on."

Vicarious Visions simply couldn't sustain the weight of the ambitions set to revive the waning franchise. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg cut the game from the publisher's lineup after seeing the game's progress, but the publisher insists that the franchise is not gone for good; they're simply giving the game a true face-lift before trying again.
