Blast From the Past: Ratchet and Clank Are Going Into the Nexus

Ratchet and Clank are back, and they're bigger, badder, and back-er than ever.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from these two adventurers, but Ratchet and Clank are officially back, old-school style.

A little history: since their first release in 2002, this dynamic duo has been wowing gamers all over the globe. The other recent games, All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault, were leaning away from the original Ratchet that fans loved, but Into the Nexus will definitely satisfy those cravings for adventure, just like old times. This game is a lot darker than the previous ones; lead designer behind the series Brian Allgeier says it was “[f]un to take [the series] in a spookier direction.”

The story begins with the famous Ratchet and Clank as they journey through space to bring two villains, Vendra and Neftin Prog, to the Vartax Detention Center. It’s not all smooth sailing, however, and the two heroes find themselves in the freaky part of space, where they lose their captives. Introducing a whole new place, but with the same great combat and weapons, Insomniac really pulls the characters out of the past and into the future.

Some of the really cool weapons you’ll get to use as Ratchet are the Nightmare Box, Winterizer, and the Grav Tether. These weapons will give you endless amusement. I mean, who wouldn’t love seeing enemies turn into snowmen while Jingle Bells plays? Not to worry, you won’t have to get used to entirely new weapons, as some of Ratchet’s famous weapons like the Omniblaster and his ratchet, of course, are still there. In addition, the familiar Skill Points and Golden Bolts are still there.

And let’s not forget about Clank! While he still has the same abilities as in the previous games to help Ratchet, such as jumping higher, longer, and even gliding, the new additions really build onto his character. In Into the Nexus, Clank gets to do 2D puzzles in a place called Netherverses. Upon completing these missions, Clank unlocks new areas to discover!

Want more good news? You’ll get to see your old favourite characters, Captain Qwark, Cronk, Zephyr, and Talwyn again too!

Everyone is probably wondering, “Well, if it’s coming out on the PS3, will it be on the PS Vita, too?” The answer is: “Maybe.”

“Everyone would love for it to come to Vita,” Insomniac’s James Stevenson told IGN, “but it has to be up to the series’ standards.” Insomniac really wants to make sure the game is ready for this.

You’re all going to have to wait a bit more for this long-awaited game though, since it’s coming out in the fall. Rest assured, the wait will be worth it, because the game is only $29.99 both digitally and on disk!
