Ouya Still Not Doing Well, Devs Claim Sales Are Lacking

Ouya still isn't making a wave, and developers are noticing.

Although Ouya has tried their hardest to make a wave in the gaming industry, the system is still not performing the way developers expected. Ouya’s most popular releases are failing to take off as many had hoped.

Sales have shown that there has been no noticeable impact on the revenue for the developers. Ouya has yet to have its breakout hit; it hasn’t even really had a hit.

“It’s sold about half of what my low-end predictions were,” said Organ Trail developer, Ryan Wiemeyer.

The Men Who Wear Many Hats, the team behind Organ Trail, seems to be a little disappointed in the sales of the game for Ouya.

“Last I checked we were at 501 purchases from 13,112 downloads. This accounts for about 0.1 percent of our total Organ Trail sales to date.

“I don’t even know if it was worth the man hours yet. Then again… Organ Trail was a pain to add controller support to and that was the bulk of the port.”

Bombball developer, E McNeil had similar results with Ouya. The game is making only a little over $30 a day before Ouya’s cut, as reported in an interview with Gamasutra.

“I kind of knew from the start that I was making a game that would be difficult to sell,” added McNeil. “Still, I let my expectations get inflated over time, and now I’m a little disappointed with the sales.”

But not everyone is seeing the struggle.

Not every developer is having these sales issues. Matt Thorson – the man behind the Ouya exclusive TowerFall – has said that his game is doing very well.

“We’ve made about 2000 sales so far at $15 each,” said Thorson. “So sales have been surprisingly high for a new game on a new console. The game has definitely proven itself on Ouya.”

That makes their revenue about $21,000. That doesn’t sound too bad, not to mention that was only in four months.

It seems like Ouya will need to prove themselves from here on out to get a fan-base. How do you think that Ouya will pull themselves out of this slump? Where is the system going?
