Roses are red, violets are blue. Deathwing is dead, and Blizz smells like poo.

WoW = poo.

Today, World of Warcraft sucks.

The Beginning

Okay, so is it just me or has Blizzard’s MVP game gone from bad to worse ever since the release of Cataclysm?

I mean think about it, when WoW came out in November, 2004, the game was at its near-best quality. The game was difficult; the game was challenging; getting to level 20 was an accomplishment; getting 100 gold was an accomplishment; mounts were available at level 40 and 60 and you actually had to travel to your raids and quests. The community was smaller, yes, but it was more tight-knit. There weren’t nearly as many servers or guilds, and it felt like this game was the beginning of something amazing, which it was.

The Best Game Ever

When Blizzard released WoW’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade, January 16th, 2007, the game had reached its peak quality. The game was still challenging in all aspects but the reason it was better than what is known as Vanilla WoW (World of Warcraft before any expansion was launched) is because of all the extra content, which ranged from new modified talents; to new races and areas; to new dungeons and raids. This was WoW’s prime time. By this time, 9 million players were wandering Azeroth.

The Downfall

November 13th, 2008. Sadly, this is where the game starts to go bad. The Wrath of The Lich King expansion is released in North America. It is during this expansion that Blizzard launches their famous Dungeon Finder, mounts are available at level 20 and 40. Some things do get better. Up to this point, Blizzard had done an incredible job with their lore, talents, classes, races, battlegrounds, dungeons, raids. They had a whopping 11.5 million subscribers at this point. This is the expansion that gave Blizzard their hardest time overseas. Particularly in China, due to their internet censorship. The game was still worthy of play and many of the players, including myself, thought that the worse aspects of the game would change in the next expansion.

The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall

And here is where I left WoW, only to log in once every 3 months or so, just to see what was happening. December 7th, 2010, Cataclysm launched in North America.

“Just a few short months after Cataclysm‘s debut, World of Warcraft showed its first signs of notable decline. Nearly every expansion had seen waves of players re-subscribe and eventually drop the game, but Cataclysm showed players dropping out faster than ever.”

We, the players, had gotten too used to the game. Deathwing was killed faster than Arthas and Illidan. The game had gotten too easy. We were looking for a challenge, something new, but Blizzard could not feed us the content we desired.

This Subheading Is Only Here For Protocol

I would mention the Mists of Pandaria expansion, but I do not want to be mocked. One look at what Blizz did with the talents and I knew there was no turning back for Blizzard.
