Good Game: A Charity Stream for Boston’s One Fund

Gamers unite for a weekend charity streaming marathon to support the Boston One Fund with Good Game this upcoming weekend!

On Monday April 15th, 2013 most of the country was aware that it was marathon day in the city of Boston.  Most of of New England could say they had a friend, or a cousin, a co-worker or an internet acquaintance who was either running, walking, or observing the marathon festivities.  Closer to home in Massachusetts, eyes and ears across the state were peeled to a riveting and freshly minted rivalry between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays.  As the Sox game came to a celebratory close, hundreds of patrons began the annual trek from historic Fenway park, to witness marathoners hauling themselves across a well deserved finish line.

At 2:50 pm, celebratory chaos amidst the usual marathon mayhem turned to panic, fear and terror not only in the city of Boston; Thanks to social media like Twitter, within a matter of minutes most of the planet was aware that the unthinkable had occurred.  Two bombs had detonated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and wounding hundreds with miscellaneous shrapnel and glass from the homemade pressure cooker bombs.

As the pandemonium from the initial blasts took hold, stories of heroism took center stage.  Photos and videos from the blast sites appeared online within an hour of the incident, and not long after that– the Police, even the FBI appealed to the masses for aide in locating and holding accountable those who might dare threaten such a strong and passionate city.

In the aftermath of the bombings, the manhunt, the arrests, and countless surgeries for hundreds of innocent souls- the gaming community has an opportunity to step up, and be strong for Boston, the best way we know how.

Phil Kollar, Deputy Reviews Editor for Polygon realized that he had a unique skill set, and set of connections to be able to help.  Without being directly affected by the events, the human in him saw a need, felt an urge to step up, and the gamer in him new exactly how to do that.  With the help of friends and co-workers he has pulled together Good Game, a weekend gaming live stream marathon benefiting the Boston One Fund.

The One Fund has raised over $28 Million to date, all with the purpose of supporting the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings, and their families.

Join Phil and a whole treasure trove of the “who’s who” of the gaming live-stream community from 6 pm Pacific on Friday May 4th through 12:01 am on Monday  May 6th.  The crew joining the Good Game charity stream-a-thon can be found on it’s website, but if you’re on the fence– take a look at some of the highlights below from the stream’s schedule:
