Red Dead Redemption 2 Cheats: A Complete Guide
Red Dead Redemption 2 is an enormous game. In many ways, it’s the most ambitious game of the generation and certainly the deepest and most lifelike of Rockstar’s stellar list of open world games. If you've played many Rockstar games in the past, such as Grand Theft Auto III, Liberty City, and San Andreas, then you might remember the prevalence of cheat codes. In fact, in past generations, cheat codes were prevalent across pretty much every game genre.
Everyone remembers the Konami code and until very recently, my fingers were ingrained with the muscle memory for spawning a jet in San Andreas. Back then, you had to input a complex series of buttons in rapid succession to activate cheats, but just like the waning days of the Wild West in Red Dead Redemption 2, times are changing.
We’ve put together this list of cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as details on how to enter them, so that you can have Infinite Stamina, Infinite Ammo, and the War Horse whenever you want it. Read on.
How To Find Cheat Codes in Red Dead Redemption 2
Not all cheats in Red Dead Redemption 2 are created equally. What we mean by this is that some of them have prerequisites in-game that need to be fulfilled before they will fully unlock -- even if you know the proper code and type it in.
For example, you’ll see in the list below that some of the cheat codes require you to purchase in-game newspapers to fully unlock them. You can find newspaper sales people by looking for the little newspaper icon on your map when in a town.
Open up your inventory, go to the Documents tab, and look for purchased newspapers there. If you use the newspaper, Arthur will pull it out and you can inspect the text yourself. Check the margins, edges, and bottom borders to find phrases that stand out by themselves to locate different cheat codes. Once you spot the cheats, go enter them in the menu by following the directions below.
So if you want, you could go about getting cheat codes manually through playing the game. However, not all cheat codes are tied to newspapers. Some of the cheats are phrases you’ll just find in the game world itself, like those scrawled across ice or carved into objects.
Since the game world is so vast, it’d be quite daunting to only find them this way. Just checking our list down below is much easier!
How To Enter Cheat Codes in Red Dead Redemption 2
Entering cheat codes in Red Dead Redemption 2 is super simple. All you have to do is pause the game, navigate to the Settings menu, then press either triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox One to bring up the Cheats interface.
From there, you should see a long list of locked “Unknown” cheats that you can’t see yet. Press triangle again (or Y) if the prompt doesn’t automatically open to bring up the entry pad. Now all you have to do is type in each code exactly as it’s spelled (capitalization doesn’t matter) to unlock each corresponding cheat.
Once a cheat is unlocked, it will appear in the list where you can quickly and easily toggle it on or off as you see fit.
If any cheats are activated in Red Dead Redemption 2, you cannot save any single player progress, and you cannot collect Trophies and Achievements for the duration of your playthrough. So you should only use cheats for fun to mess around since nothing else will count. It’s also wise to save your game before enabling any cheats.
Keep in mind that, as explained, some cheats require you to purchase in-game newspapers before they will fully unlock.
