The founder of Epic Games,Tim Sweeney says that VR headsets are going to take off in the coming years.

The founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, says that he expects to see three to five million Virtual Reality headsets sold in 2016. Epic Games is the developer of hit games like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament, and they plan to begin making games geared towards VR.

In a recent interview with IGN Sweeney stated, “I think it’s going to be the most revolutionary change that’s happened in the history of computing.”

Epic Games has begun working with VR in mind, as seen with the company’s short game demo Bullet Train. The game takes advantage of the Oculus Touch which lets players of the demo aim, move and shoot in an in-game area filled with enemies.

Sweeney and the team at Epic Games know that VR won’t work for all kind of games. Sweeney told IGN, “You can’t just take a game like Unreal Tournament, where you’re running around the world at 30 miles an hour, and stick it in VR. You barf really quickly.”

The idea of a AAA game beinin full VR is something gamers have wanted for a long time and is something we would be very excited to see but even Sweeny admits: “We are years away.” With many headsets being developed such as the Oculus Rift, Sony’s PlayStation VR, and even Microsoft HoloLens the future of VR games seems bright and hopefully closer than we think.
