The first-ever LEGO RPG is being built for iOS and Android and should launch sometime this fall. Meanwhile, Gameloft released the game’s first teaser trailer, which can be seen above. It offers a glimpse at the game’s general concept and traditional LEGO style.

The basic plot is still under wraps at the moment. However, the idea is that players will venture forth and collect LEGO figures and entire sets spanning the decades for battle — against what, we still don’t know.

For example, the trailer’s somewhat arthritic Captain Redbeard hails from 1989’s Set 6270, and Gameloft is working to ensure the game has plenty of appeal for longtime fans, including avid collectors, and newcomers alike.

In fact, the development team has been working on the game for several years already. During that time, the team has made trips to the LEGO Vault in Denmark, scrutinizing figures, manuals, and instructions from throughout the years to try and recreate every aspect of the LEGO experience as accurately as possible.

Gameloft’s COO, Baudouin Corman, provided some additional insight into the care being put into the game:

LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed is built to bring the enjoyment and fun that you once had, or still have, with LEGO toys. We are excited to see these authentic and original LEGO characters from all eras come to life.

We have been putting all our efforts, art and craft into this game as we want to delight all LEGO fans, whether their minifigures are tucked away in the attic or proudly shown in the living room.

All this is being done in close collaboration with The LEGO Group and its LEGO Games branch to ensure LEGO Legacy reflects each characters’ personality and the brand’s signature characteristics.
