[Site Update] Now These Points of Data Make a Beautiful Line

How can post-level stats help you up your game?

If you regularly check your dashboard, you may have noticed a change earlier this week. We’ve had a running 30-day graph of your overall views for about a month now. During that time, we heard from more than a couple people that it would be even more helpful to know details on specific posts. We couldn’t agree more. So we spent some time figuring out the best ways to help you learn more about your post performance.

We think we have a good starting point for that in the new Dashboard and Post Stats views.

The new Dashboard gives you more information about all of your posts at a glance. You can now:

  • view your posts by their status, including only drafts (Yes, we heard all of the requests and we felt the pain ourselves!)
  • see how many views each post has gotten
  • see when you actually published a post
  • sort your posts by the date it was last saved, by the number of views, or by the number of comments

Clicking on the Views for a specific post will take you to your Post Statistics.

The Post Statistics will show your post’s performance over the last 30 days as well as the total number of views from social links. We’d like to add more data about post performance, and would love to hear what you’re most interested in learning.

Following are some notes on the new statistics:

  • Right now, we are pulling in statistics nightly – your views will only update once a day.
  • Views from social on the other hand are pulled directly from ShareThis:
    • If you want to measure views from social links, you’ll want to use the social sharing widgets on the page.
    • These views are updated more frequently so you may end up with discrepancies where views from social have outpaced your total views. (This should fix itself with the nightly pull.)
  • We’ve heard a couple complaints about the graph not loading fully on the post statistics page and will look into what’s causing that. What seems to work is refreshing the page when this occurs. (If you don’t see the numbers on the x axis of your graph, it hasn’t fully loaded.)

We hope you’re as excited about the new statistics as we are. If you have any further requests for things that would be helpful, feel free to leave a comment here.
