Tamriel, a fantasy universe filled with danger, mystery and really bad cameramen. This visually stunning showcase of conflict and intrigue in the forthcoming Elder Scrolls Online tells the story of three vastly different heroes whose paths lead them to a potential face-off.
Epic Shaky-Cam
In an unusual move, Bethesda Softworks decided to get the whole thing filmed by a short-sighted halfling on stilts. Every time there’s any combat, it’s like the little fella gets nervous, starts shaking and forgets where he’s meant to be pointing his camera. The camera wobble used to accentuate the action is exacerbated by being zoomed in just a tad too much.
Visceral? Certainly.
Visible? Not so much.
This lengthy trailer (6 minutes) sees a grizzled warrior and friends enter the lair of some unhealthy looking canine fellows who don’t take kindly to their presence. Unsurprisingly, a disagreement of a physical nature ensues (which is when Bilbo Spielberg first gets really nervous).
Meanwhile a red-haired lass with great skin but no sense of humour is mildly embarrassed by her failure to sneak into a well-defended tower. As a result she gets a bit stroppy and starts throwing lightning bolts around.
Cold Callers
As if the poor tower defenders weren’t having a bad enough day, Altair’s stunt-double takes time out from filming the next Assassin’s Creed to perform some outrageous acrobatics. His impressive display might have cheered up the besieged soldiers if it weren’t for a bunch of other fellows lobbing arrows at them and Altair clone’s distinctly unfriendly behaviour when he comes down to earth.
As the three adversaries finally meet to discuss who will be picking up the bill, it all becomes a bit much for our hapless cameraman who manages to hitch a ride on a passing eagle for the final shot – as halflings always do when they get into a spot of bother.
