Star Citizen FPS Demo from PAX Australia Is Absolutely Beautiful

Roberts Space Industries showed off their demo to shouts of approval from the crowd at PAX Australia.

Greetings Citizen,

Watch the FPS demo from PAX Australia. The team at Illfonic has been working hard to make FPS combat in the ‘Verse innovative and immersive. Now you can see the next step in the evolution of Star Citizen. Aim for the head, shoot for the stars!

Star Citizen has raised a few eyebrows in its absurdly successful headlong dash into being. A child of the crowdfunding era, it has become the center star of a rather jaded spectator sport - seeing which Kickstarter games succeed and which ones are bound to crash and burn from a combination of mismanagement, poor business plans, and very little understanding of how to deliver all that they promise.

With about $60-61 million (and counting) in funds poured into this game from backers and players alike, expectations continue to mount as Star Citizen's working capital begins to resemble that of a (modest) AAA title.

So far, development has given fans absolutely no reason to be disappointed. First-look demos and a playable alpha have only increased the hype - and this newest trailer shows a brand new aspect of the game that should appeal to more than just the space-sim lover at heart.

I love bounty hunters. :) They always have the most flexibility in every game I've played.

IKR? :D i am so excited about this game you guys, it has been in the making (in my head) for nearly 10years now, i still can't believe it is truly happening. I am so happy they included FPS mode as well, the possibilities are now truly endless.

Looks like a very promising game. Can't wait to get a hold of it. Although, I'm looking forward to Dreadnought more at this point.

On a side note I always find it somewhat humorous when people play games and try to talk as if they're actually part of a team but don't quite get it right and fail to actually operate like one in and out of combat.

That was a bit of a turn-off for me, haha. I like a little more crowd interaction when it comes to these kinds of public demo releases (although I was really piqued by The Division demo, and that was similarly done, so consistency is not in my favor).

I agree though, it's pretty when they mess that up. I would do no better, but I can ~pretend~ I could! ^.^

Haha. Indeed. Part of the reason I find it funny is because I can do better and know how such a team actually communicates and acts. Which is also the biggest reason I am turned off by such demos. But it was at least nice to see an attempt. Either way they didn't do a bad job of showing off the gameplay.

Do we know when either this or E:D are going to be released?

I understand Star Citizen won't be released any time soon, and with Elite: Dangerous (I had to ask what you were referring to :P) they've said they're on track for releasing in Q4 of this year but I suspect it'll get pushed back to some time next year.

I agree, at this stage there is no way they could release bt Q4. From a marketing perspective they shouldn't either. It's a fierce competition for a title like this even on PC. However am I mistaken in assuming this game was being released on PS4 as well? They were on the E3 stage.

From what I understand (and only vaguely remember, it was not a priority game of mine) that it was only a possibility they were willing to explore but much further on down the line. I suspect it hinges on the PC/OSX release being a success.
