gPotato NA and EU Sold to Webzen

The North American and European divisions of MMO host gPotato has been sold to Webzen for $17.5 milllion.

After losing money over the first nine months of 2012 and reporting a 40 percent revenue loss in comparison to 2011, the North American and European divisions of MMO host gPotato has been sold for $17.5 milllion.

North American MMO players may know gPotato as publisher for Flyff, Continent of the Ninth Seal (C9), and Allods Online (among other titles). The European division handles Dragonica, C9, Terra Militaris, Canaan Online, SEVENCORE, and Allods Online in the region.

The MMO portal/publisher and its parent company, Gala-Net, have been sold to Webzen, which is best known for MU Online in the West. The sale gives total control of all of gPotato’s currently published games. They’ve even already put up their own C9 site.

Will Webzen handle the ex-gPotato games better than their previous owner did? I haven’t dealt much with them, but it really is hard to get worse than gPot. Their cash shops were/are the absolute worst — maybe not literally the worst, but they’re certainly in the running. Considering how badly the company fared last year, this is basically a win-win for both gPot and the players of their games.
