To reminisce of the original Diablo. [Blizzard Rant] Pt.1

The beginning of a longer rant about Blizzard, this post is about my first blizzard game Diablo and the experience I remember from it.

Let me start by saying I love Blizzard games, even the bad ones of late weren’t the worst things ever made, even if I haven’t tried one in particular *cough* MoP *cough*.  I want to also say however that my rant is not just me talking up Blizzard, because in my final chapters it will be virtually the exact opposite of cheering for Team Blizzard.

I played Diablo at the ripe age of 8 years old, I never got far on it however because I had to uninstall the game every night before I went to bed and re-install it every afternoon after school because of my overly christian mom who destroyed the first copy that my step father had brought home after spending the day helping to clean out college dorms.  The curiosity of a game that my mom felt needed to be destroyed when i was allowed to play Duke Nukem and Contra consumed me.  So I decided to go on Kazaa and pirate the gem.  Note that I do not promote piracy but as a young child, you have to do what you have to do in an over protective home environment in order to grow.

I played the ever loving hell out of Diablo, maybe it was because I wanted to see how far I could get before I had to uninstall it, but I was determined! I remember the first time I actually got to the Butcher to this day, it was my 10th night in a row of trying to progress through that dungeon, looking back I have no idea why it took me such a long time to get to him, maybe the install times took longer than I remember. It may also be that my memories of those days were more focused around Diablo than whatever it is I did while waiting for it to re-install  Freecell anyone? Too bad, we’re on a mission to kill this big red molten brute that made my face one with the gore coated floor. I believe this was the first time I ever raged at a video game.  No, never mind there was that one time on WWF Royal Rumble that I decked my best friend in the throat for beating me. I was a mean kid.

Staying on track when thinking about your childhood is hard, so maybe I should move onto a time when I was more blatant about my disobedient nature towards the only authority a child knows.  My second blizzard title, Warcraft 3.  Let the good times roll.
