Metal Gear Solid 5 Will Look Better Than E3 Trailers

Hideo Kojima, creator of MGS, saying that next-gen versions of Metal Gear Solid 5: the Phantom Pain will look even better than the E3 trailers.
With new E3 trailers being viewed everyday, a question on everyone’s mind is, “Is this how the game really looks or are they just trying to scam us?”

With an audience used to being duped with high quality trailers and screenshots like the one below, as a community, gamers are getting used to the game’s actual graphics being just sub par. The trailer at E3 is almost always better than the actual game. We see it all too often, great graphics, amazing coloring, a game worth playing. Then the game is released and everything looks a bit… slapdash

Actual Game

That’s a huge difference. So what are we to think when Hideo Kojima, creator of the series Metal Gear Solid, says that Metal Gear Solid 5: the Phantom Pain will look better than the E3 trailer?

Microsoft started their press conference with a trailer of MGS5, leaving the crowd in awe. The trailer featured the game’s photo-realistic lighting engine, a vast open world, and detailed character models. Kojima is now saying that the game will look even better than what we saw on Monday.

“For this project we were using the PC to build the Fox Engine to create our game,” Kojima explained in an interview at E3 earlier today. “We’re using the current-generation as a [guideline]. While we were developing on current-gen, next-gen came long. We’re really trying to reach the peak of the current generation right now — 360, PS3 — and then see how much we can take it up for the next-generation.

Kojima has also shown interest in aiming for a 60 frames per second refresh rate and a higher resolution for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases. “Once we start going into development for next-generation we’re definitely looking for something better than [what] we have shown today,” he said.

The creator has also stated that MGS5 will be available for multiple devices like tablets and smartphones. “With MGS5, I feel that [using] multiple devices, tablets and smartphones and how to interact with it socially is a big step forward.”

Here are some of the screenshots released after the Microsoft press conference on Monday.

It’s hard to imagine how the game could look better than the E3 trailer. But, if that’s what Kojima says, then I will wait and see for myself. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was announced this week for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
