Resident Evil 7 E3 Hoax

Resident Evil 7 will not be shown at E3, confirms sources.

Any zombie apocalypses, mutant virus strains, and self-destruct sequences will be put on hold for now. Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 7 will not be making an appearance at this year’s trade show after false rumors claimed that they were.

The rumors emerged about two weeks ago when this fake promotional poster was leaked featuring a stylized “7”, Resident Evil title, and the tagline “The War Ends Now.” The original source of the leak claimed to have intercepted an email containing drafts of logo designs to be used for promotional advertisements at this year’s E3.

But, as we may very well know, anyone with a copy of Photoshop could easily create a believable mock-up and “leak” it to the public, but fans should see this news as a sigh of relief. With the massive disappointment and negative criticism in its recent Resident Evil titles, including Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil 6, Capcom should take the time to understand more about their fans’ desires in its franchise that still has potential to “get things right.”

Capcom Reflects on Failures of Resident Evil 6

Ever since the disappointment of Resident Evil 6, Capcom seems to be wary about the next steps for the franchise. With the recent console release of 3DS title, Resident Evil: Revelations, it appears Capcom does have plans on gaining feedback from its fans to determine the fate of the series. Resident Evil: Revelations producer, Masachika Kawata, said earlier this year,

“I think we’ll get a lot of input from the fanbase and the media on what it means for Resident Evil, and what it could mean for the future of the series. We’ll definitely be looking at that as a signpost for where we need to be going next.”

Likely, we won’t hear anything about a real Resident Evil 7 until 2014. But, who knows? Maybe there will be something to show by the time PAX Prime rolls around!

Are you looking forward to Resident Evil 7? Personally, I’m hoping to see the series return to its roots in “true” survival horror! Bring back the fixed camera angles, unexpected jump scares, and limited resources and weapons, and I’ll be sold!
