Crash 4 Gameplay Footage Shows Off Huge Levels, New Features

New Crash 4 gameplay footage offers a look at one big level, plus Crash Bandicoot features both familiar and new.

Following yesterday's news of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time boasting a massive number of levels, we're seeing how big some of these levels might be. IGN showed off an exclusive new bit of Crash 4 gameplay focused on a large pirate-themed level full of old Crash staples and new mechanics alike.

The new Crash 4 gameplay footage shows off different stages of the level. The opening includes plenty of familiar Crash features — multiple crate types, Wumpa Fruit, a stopwatch to kick off the level's time trial, and a protective Aku Aku mask.

The mid-section of the reveal sees Crash navigating multiple rope lines to avoid crashing (ha...). But underneath, you can see different portions of the level you've already played through laid out below. Not only does it suggest some pretty darn big levels this time around, but also an interesting vertical layer added to the level design.

Later on, there are at least three new crates scattered around as well. One shoots fire out the sides and top, one houses a Golden Wumpa Fruit whose purposes are yet unknown, and then there's a shark crate too. That one looks suspiciously like Donkey Kong Country's critter companion crates, so it'll be interesting to find out what's actually inside.

Crash's attacks seem to have more oomph in Crash 4. One sequence sees Crash kicking up a whirlwind effect with his spin attack, sending foes crashing into each other.

Head over to IGN to see the footage in full.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC October 2. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Crash 4 gameplay news as it wumps our way.

Josh Broadwell started gaming in the early '90s. But it wasn't until 2017 he started writing about them, after finishing two history degrees and deciding a career in academia just wasn't the best way forward. You'll usually find him playing RPGs, strategy games, or platformers, but he's up for almost anything that seems interesting.
